Thanks! We live in the sticks and it adds 10 miles each way to my commute… but its a great 10 miles!. Thank you for watching and commenting… it really helps a lot!
The reason that it feels bigger than the SQ5 is because it the Cayenne share chassie with VW Group brothers like the Audi Q7/Q8, VW Touareg, Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus. The Q5 share with Porsche Macan etc. It's a smart way to save money for VW. Own a lot of brands and make them share components to some degree. Just like Porsche makes the V8, Audi makes the V6/V10 and VW makes the 4cyl engines. That the hole VW group than can share. Some brand makes their special engines, just like Porsche's 4cyl in 718 and the 6cyl in 911-range and Audi's 5 cyl RS3/TTRS engine or Lamborghinis V12 in Aventador. You Sir got a great voice for this and it was nice to see your lovely wife be a part of the review.
I have exactly the same one, but with more bells and whistles which came up to 90K with the potential upgrades, you mentioned in the video. But I love it. Somehow I find the normal mode very smooth and adequate than sports mode when sacrificing the quick response in sports mode. And I did ask Porsche to have a Sports Exhaust as well which will cost me an extra 5.5K with parts and labor after almost a year of riding this. It is very reliable and nice. The only thing I was missing was the sound and I am waiting for the parts to come to Porsche on the Sports Exhaust. Thanks for the video. It was kind of exciting to see a copy of my car getting reviewed. All I can say is beware when you buy Porsche. Once you buy Porsche, you will have at least one of your vehicles always be Porsche. Hard to steer away from that beauty and perfection.
Nice review. After doing some research the Cayenne is getting a midlife cycle refresh and will be revealed end of year or beginning of next year. Looking forward to the changes.
My wife drives a BMW X3. Quite a nice car but we live in Manitoba Canada and BMW intentionally programs the adaptive cruise control to disable below 43 degrees F so doesn't work in winter time!!!!! We can drive it into North Dakota and as soon as we cross the border the cruise will work. Then as soon as we cross back into Canada it will cut out. Not what we wanted so a friend of mine has the Cayenne and he said the cruise works all year round instead of seasonal. So we are thinking of getting the Cayenne. Nice review. Thx
Needed a new key for my 2006 turbo cayenne, well the key wouldn't worked when they tried programming infact my original key didn't work either lol. I had to drive 4 hrs to my nearest dealership to get this done, after 3 hours of working on it they gave me a 2021 cayenne to take home, so now I'm hoping they don't figure it out until 2024. Getting used to everything was different almost like being in a cockpit.
I am test driving one of these tomorrow at 11am NZ time. I currently own a 2017 Range Rover Sport HSE Dynamic SDV8. Time to change so I test drove an Audi Q8 last week. Disappointing to say the least. My RR Sport leaves it for dead in every department. My RR Sport is at the dealership at the moment. An issue with the software saying g the DPF filter is full when in fact it isn't. They have given me a new Jaguar F Pace 3L Hybrid as a loner while they attempt to fix the Sport. I have to say it is an amazing vehicle to drive. Drove back to Whitianga from Hamilton in the wet and it stuck to the road like glue around the twisty roads we have here. No turbo lag either. Must be that electric motor helping out. Unfortunately it is only rated to tow 2.4 ton so not an option as a replacement vehicle. This review is just what I needed to give me a heads up for tomorrows test. Thanks.
Liked the review. Ordered a 2021 base model in January and expect delivery any day now. Specked it out much like this car but in Quartzite Grey with black roof rails and window trim, 21" Turbo wheels, black sport tailpipes. Went big for safety and convenience options (premium plus and assistance packages including adaptive cruise control) and top end interior leather (truffle brown/cohiba leather) as well as thermally & noise insulated glass option. Have had three successive Cadillac XT5s but also a 2005 Boxster and 2008 C4S 997 which gave us the appreciation for Porsche quality, comfort and performance, so we decided to go Porsche for the new SUV. Anxiously awaiting getting our hands on the new wheels.
Hi Bob, with ordering your Cayenne, did your dealer mention any delays due to chip shortages? My SA found us one in Baltimore shipping to another dealership but would be able to bring it here for us. Specked out very similar to yours (w/ Mojave beige- minus ACC and wireless charging) but we’re thinking of just ordering one with EVERYTHING we want on it for that type of money if delays aren’t too ridiculous.
@@kaysmith5414 Hi Kay. We ordered in early January and at that time the chip scarcity had not yet become widely know and was not mentioned as a possible issue by our SA. Apparently they had available allotment from which they could draw for our order and the delivery date at the time was estimated to be in early May. It arrived in Toronto about 10 days ago and I will pick it up tomorrow. Good luck with your purchase!
@@bobstephenson6023 We’ve decided to purchase it with allocations to Michigan being so few and far between (especially with good interior/attractive exterior features). Thanks so much for the insight on ordering times!
I preferred the smaller Macan, my 2020 Macan S is well equipped and cost about the same as this base Cayenne. What I absolutely do not like about the new generation Cayenne is the loss of the mechanical switches in the center console. I know that the same will most likely happen with the next generation Macan, for me its a deal breaker.
I am considering buying one of these after selling my stg2 f86 x6m bmw. I'm at a point where I don't really need to be the fastest on the road and this base Cayenne could be the answer. I already test drove one and it was pretty good. Also, if I want a little more power I can easily do a stg1 tune on it and bump the hp to 450.
Would I buy one? Yes, I have an "S" model ordered. Test drove the base and found it's engine lacking. The S was peppier and more fun. Option list is ridiculously long and expensive, but configured the car exactly as I wanted (and could barely afford). Test drove the Mercedes SUV and found it's emphasis on luxury was not what I wanted in a driving machine. Moving up from a 20 year old BMW X5 (original owner) and this will be a worth successor.
@@4Noirr_ We traded in our Audi A6 for a down payment. Financed the rest on our HELOC. We only have one vehicle now, and this is an excellent all-around vehicle. Ordered one and that took about 4 months.
@@jumboJetPilot I love this car. So happy to have gotten an S model. Traded in a 20 years old BMW X5 with 6 cylinder and the base Cayenne was about as peppy. The S was a definite step up. The car drives great and the twin turbos provide all the power I could ask for. No need for a V-8. Get about 18 to 24 MPG, even when driving at 80 MPH+. Don't love the touch screen or software. Our 2014 Audi has MUCH better driver interface. My first Porsche and it's been great, just not happy with the touch screen.
heheee... not really bought a 1k sqft house, kept it 10 years and paid most of it off, moved up to a 2k sqft house for 10 years and then a 3k sqft house for 10 years and then sold it and moved into this one with it mostly paid for. So it took over 30 years with the wonders of real estate appreciation to get into this. AND I moved 20 miles out of town where the prices were A LOT better! The two 1k sqft garages is what really sold me!
Hi James, Great review and I love the base model Cayenne black on black spec'd you reviewed. My In-laws live in Sparta, TN and we are trying to get closer to them. We looked around the suburbs of Nashville and was wondering if you are near the Brentwood or Franklin area? Can't help but notice how beautiful your property and neighborhood is.
We actually moved to Eagleville about a year ago and Curt should be closing on his house across the street tomorrow! With all the wierd stuff going on last year we wanted to get out away from town. We bought the 4 acre place we have now for not much more than we sold the same size home with a 1/4 acre lot in Franklin. Loving it. added about 10 minutes of 50 mph back roads to the drive which I love! Let me know if you need a realtor referral... we know some good ones!
Hey dude I like your style. one day i know that my hard work is going to pay off ill be getting an fha home loan and a brand new porsche in the driveway cuz God is good and He be helping me!
I have an ehybrid 2021 Cayenne coupe - even nicer look, no diff in interior seating space, minimal storage diff. Sorry, I don't like all black, always looks dirty, RS 21" wheels with black looks nicer IMHO (what I have, of course). Used car values are up, maybe time for a switch?
I test drove both the base model and S last week. I’m not sure the S justifies the price difference. Knowing you have a 911 and what appears another high performance vehicle in your garage. I also test drove a Range Rover Sport…any history with those? Thanks for the video and comments on the Cayenne!
You bet! I currently have the 911 4S and a 2021 R8V10... also a Jaguar XE SV Project 8 and the XKR-S GT along with some other stuff.. The reliability of the Jags which are also a Tata product, have been very good. I have driven a few RR... my experience is that they are cool to drive with good off road performance and excellent curb appeal. Reliability has been issue however from what I gather from my many friends that have them. definitely a different drive experience from the more performance and driving enthusiast Porsche. The 4 year / 50k warranty is better than it use to be tho. We just shot a review on the E-Pace and I was pretty impressed although it is smaller than what you are looking at. The F-Pace may be something to consider as it has a better warranty, will be a little more sporty and come in at a lower price point. Another option... we currently have a 2020 Audi SQ5 that is a lot of fun to drive . Very high trim level and it is a riot!. I think we paid about $49k for it. Maybe not the same brand recognition but just as good a sport SUV. Let us know how what you decide to do!
@@justinharrington4199 I think base model is enough, I used to be all about power but the speed limit is there so i am satisfied as long as the car is quick enough with a 6 cylinder
I know it's not your cayenne - but how did they get Google Maps to show? I recently test drove a 2021 base Cayenne and the demo car i was in (supposedly had all the bells and whistles of the base model) didn't have Google Maps in the navigation as there was no satellite view in the navigation
errr... sorry about that! It goes all the way back and if I remember correctly it tilts open. thank you for watching! it is a great SUV... my 2 cents, grab a low mileage 1 year old one with a CPO warranty. Better warranty and you offset that 1st year depreciation.
Me too! Platinum looks really good with the 21 inch wheels and quad exast! I want to know if adding the 970$ sports Chrono package is worth it! It does increase the 0-60 by .3 sec as per the specs.
Platinum! I'm was on the fence myself, but the research, you get so much for your buck in the Platinum series. I'm shooting for the hybrid. Also the e-hybrid gets the electric rebate of $7.5K
If you are choosing between the 2, I’d say cayenne has a more luxury feel to it. IMO GLE only gives me family car vibes. In Porsche Cayenne is the most expensive SUV but Mercedes GLS/G wagon is the most expensive so it doesn’t feel the best of the best like the cayenne does. I do like the GLE coupe tho
Car looks great on the outside, but there is a lot of plastic on the inside. I would've expected the upper door parts to be covered in leather, along with the grabhandles. Though, I'm sure with enough money, Porsche will cover anything in leather!
Its an excellent 1st car as long as you consider maintenance costs and future repair costs. Depreciiation on a new one will be significant also. Utility and drive experience tho... outstanding.
Another Excellent review James , must say never been in a Porsche, or Driven 1, so i really do ty , my Knock on this vehicle , but mostly ALL Suv's are is that STUPID rear wiper Blade , with all today's TECH. Needs to be up & under REAR Spoiler Wing >>>>> & not a Fan of the Front End , like it's missing something . the FRONT Valance , Not like the AUDI , SQ5 , more of FULL Lower Valance , guess like the VIEW of the AUDI front Lower Portion . Besides that BEAUTIFUL SUV , again ty for ur time & review , KEEP EM COMING , More on that AMAZING TOP garage CAR CAVE , lol Luv It !!!!!
Thanks Ken... I do agree about that front end... as is typical with Porsche tho, you can throw more money at it to get a nicer model that starts to come with more aero and esthetic bits. This is a really good effort for a base car... a lot nicer than the base Audi A5
Back in 2011, I bought a brand-new Mercedes ML350. I regret it to this day (I still have it) because I bought it for the name, nothing else. Had I spent more time researching, I probably would have bought something with better performance (horsepower, suspension, aesthetics) for the same price (minus the badge). Long story short. Would I buy the base Cayenne? No. I can't justify spending approximately $68k for a base model anything. Would I opt for an S/GTS/Turbo? Also no. I am the cheapest man you will ever meet. Thank you for the free video.
I mean the base model cayenne isn't that bad. You would still get that Porche signature handling regardless of its gigantic size while still retaining the attributes of a large SUV. Plus they look cool lol
@@omachi5931 I built one online with just the deal-breaker options I want, and I was already in $90k territory. And I personally feel that some of those options really should be standard on a car like this.
Very good review! I’m definitely interested in getting one. I can’t decide between the Cayenne or a pickup truck. A pickup would be a hassle in NY but their hauling capacity is amazing! A Cayenne would be easier to live with on a daily basis. I also like the Lincoln Aviator but it’s current evolution gets terrible reliability scores. Too many decisions! I guess that’s a first-world problem right there…
@@michaelqu well, I live in NJ but I have to park at JFK airport fairly frequently. I still haven’t bought anything though! I’m kind of interested in the Ford Maverick or something of that size.
I have a 2004 Cayenne S (still going strong) and I am 6'9" I fit just fine with room to spare and my interior is absolute crap compared to the new ones. The new ones are also larger inside (better use of space)
Very comfy I have air suspension which helps but I run 29 inch wheels which I feel is better than the 21 inch that I put on in the summer but they look better😃👍
All subjective, but Porsche has the driving dynamics down for sure. They put a lot of research and development in getting these trucks to drive like cars. Whatever you like, whether Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, it will be good.
ok.. thats the second comment sooo I had to look James Hetfield up... nope... Im not that good looking. Im like the poorer, less talented, blue collar version of him... oh.. with no musical talent either. lol thanks for the comment!
