Today I compare a 2021 Ram TRX to a 2021 Ram Rebel! Ram Inventory: www.lhmchrysle... Second Channel: / @thebenhardyshow Instagram: ben_hardypl Facebook: @benhardycar
Hey Dodge give us a Rebel with the wide fenders from the TRX, upgraded suspension, and a different hood and they will sell like hot cakes for the people that want a TRX like look without the price and fuel economy. Just like what you do with the Hellcat and SRTs .
@@aidenellis2425 even if you're being facetious, this is a dumbass comment What the OP is saying makes sense because Dodge's Scatpacks and Hellcats do look alike. Even the GT models have the same styling. The problem with OP's statement is that Dodge and RAM are different companies now. Under the same umbrella that is Stellantis, but they each don't share the same philosophies. It'd be great if the Rebel could get fender flares as well, but at least they look alike. Makes sense unlike your comment...
Yeah that can’t be good for it, but it would be a trick to play on a friend walking by it or like when a uhaul guy is hooking up a trailer to your hitch😂 I’m kidding 😉
@@guyalhaig5977 it happens with all of them I find if u go thru car wash and it freezes and u try open it and it doesn’t and soon ass ice in there melts or u hit rough road it’ll drop haven’t had it happen in my 2016 rebel but my wife’s 2018 sport been twice but both times frozen after car wash haven’t had it drop if don’t try open it froze
If you want a truck to be a functional truck, like a functional bed, ability to tow, uses regular gas, and still pretty fun, then get the Rebel. If all you're concerned with is fun, and you have to have the most power, even if it's not particularly useful in terms of what a truck is typically used for, and price is no option, then get the TRX.
“Worth it” is in the eyes of the beholder. I think for >95% of the owners the off-road capability difference is irrelevant. On the contrary most owners probably would get more benefit from the Rebel’s payload and mpg increases. That being said, it is difficult to put a value on someone’s happiness and driving the TRX is something that would put a smile on my face every day.
You hit the nail on the head. Impossible to measure pure happiness with a vehicle. Of course 95%+ people would never use the TRX to its full capabilities and even typical off road enthusiasts would be great with a Rebel, but the pure joy of driving and owning a TRX would be huge. Is it WORTH $35k more? Yeah, for sure. Is it practical to spend that much more for a truck with capabilities that you have zero business needing? No lol not at all. It is purely a luxury vehicle and pride/joy type of thing for people who can afford it. I'd love to own a TRX, but I have a 2021 Rebel that I love and plan to keep for several years (plus $35k more in my pocket).
I'll be honest if it wasn't for the green these trucks are barely distinguishable at all from the front. Kinda disappointing Ram didn't make the TRX look more special considering what it is
Why compare I own rebel with shit ass air suspension power wagon was what I should have bought but trx over power wagon who buys truck looking for fuel economy lol
I have had my 2021 Rebel for about 3 1/2 weeks and love it. Though, I have the night edition, which I think with the Graphite paint just makes it pOp all the better than the standard look, and mine also has the Auto 4WD function along with 2WD, which is a nice little addition. I will say after driving around town on the first tank of gas (will just have to fill up today at 350 miles on the truck) the MPG is just under 14 and I'm not really 'in' it all that much. Is the TRX a nice vehicle? Yes, but unless you are out in the sand dunes every weekend then why spend the 33ishK more for it? Nice truck and ignore the haters who don't understand MOPAR green, but I am more than happy with my Rebel.
Your comment was left almost 10 months ago now... I'm just curious how your thoughts and opinion holds up now that some time has passed? Anyway, have a great day... I really look forward to hearing what you might have to say about the RAM now that you've got a few miles under your belt! 👍🏼🤟🏼🇺🇸🔥💯
@@jordanjohnson5784 still love the truck, have just under 11K miles on it. Had a TRX on order but canceled it because the Rebel is more than enough truck.
Love em both..But is it worth 35K more??? Not sure about that, but if I had tons of money I would definitely buy the TRX!!! That wrap is awesome Ben!😊👍🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I was in the same boat with my 20 rebel. I had enough to pay out right for a rebel or make payments on a TRX, I went with the Rebel since I have dirt bikes and a heavy Harley I pull sometimes. Depends on what you will use the truck for. I done regret it one bit.
@@TheWatcher1182 Chapman in Horsham Pennsylvania. I think right now your best bet is Granger Dodge in Granger Iowa. They are giving similar deals. I don't think Chapman is anymore. You can read up on TRX forums. Dan Cummings in Ohio might also give similar deals. They were at the time
I'm building out a rebel right now, coming from a tacoma. Swarfworks hidden winch mount, warn zeon 12s platinum, diamondback cover, icon uca, clayton rear arms and springs, fox 2.5 DSC shocks, method race wheels. Itll be like a baby powerwagon, much more of a tool.
I daily drive my 2018 ram 1500 and I love it. Id probably pick the rebel over the trx just because of the practicality but that doesn't mean wouldn't love a trx.
Driven both the trx and rebel and the rebel in my opinion is a better option as you can tow better better gas but still have the feel off a cool truck but the trx and just some next level badass shit 😂
Rather have a Power Wagon than either of these models . Even though that HP is awesome. I can’t justify putting 100k down on Rebel look a like with just a hood scoop and wide flares as the difference. Don’t get me wrong the TRX is hell of a truck , but I was so looking forward to the concept one being produced
That’s a really basic Rebel. My rebel is a 2020 with heated and cooled seats. Also, it has the side steps, the red stitching inside, the ram boxes, and air bags under for a 8in lift. In my opinion it’s not worth 35k for the TRX, if you want an off road truck get a Raptor but that was a base Rebel. You can damn near turn a Rebel into the TRX for 15k more still saving 20k. But a very good video nothing less
I have to agree with a lot of folks in here, in that the TRX does look very similar when parked side-by-side to a rebel. It is unfortunate that RAM didn’t do more to distinguish it as a standalone truck. That’s one thing you can’t say about the Raptor, whether you like Ford or not. If you see a Raptor going down the road you know it’s a Raptor and not a regular F150. That being said they did do a good job on the interiors and made them different.
In 2016 Ram revealed the TRX concept, from that point I knew that was my dream truck. Fast Forward 2021 it became far more better than I spectated :) At the time Ford Raptor had no direct competitor although Ram had the Ram-Runner from MOPAR and was able to beat the raptor off-road however it was not suited for on-road use, not to mention it was worth 90K+ at the time it only came with a modified 6.4L V8 with a 6 speed automatic no touch screen/bells and whistles. Now in 2021 starting at 75K+ you get a brand new body frame that outperforms the old gen TRX with a 6.2L Super Charged V8 with 700+HP with far more bells and whistles than the Mopar Ram-Runner for 90K did not have. I say the 35K plus are worth it for this Super Truck :)
I wanted the trx but I think it has too much power and extra stuff. So the rebel would be a better goal for me. And since the trx is almost 100k I would be too scared to mess it up, although the rebel is still pretty pricey. But hey props to anyone who gets the trx it’s very badass.
17/22 MPG for the Ram Rebel (5.7L V8) - a full-size pickup truck... I'm getting the EXACT same MPG with my old '05 Ford Escape (XLT; 3.0L V6/AWD)! 🚙 Why am I getting such low MPG, considering it's a small SUV? A thirsty lil beast... I'd pick the Ram Rebel - just because it gets the same MPG, lol! The TRX is way too thirsty (and pricey) - for me, at least! 😆
I literally had this question on my mind for the past 2-3 hours and kept comparing online... did u just read my mind or something?! XD thanks man this video is much needed!
The red stitching in the TRX makes a huge difference on a black interior....AND I for one am glad the TRX at least has an option besides black wheels...my TRX will have these bead locks wheels just because that ain't black.
Thanks for the info, great info. When I bought my Rebel I didn't know the TRX existed. But I am very happy with my Rebel, I have the RAM Boxes, Spray-in Liner, and slow tailgate lowering, Interior has the full rubber mats. Mine has the 4WD auto button too. Would love the forward camera, cooling seats, and drive modes. I love the meaty sound of the TRX.
Well, I’m buying a new one next week. I really want the TRX but I’m settling for the Rebel because the price tag on the TRX is just more than I’m willing to spend. One thing to consider, if you live somewhere where they use salt on the roads in winter, both will be rusting out in 5 years. Dodge trucks are really bad about rusting out.
Yes it’s worth the $35K, even if it’s just to be able to pull up on any Ford Raptor and know you can smoke them in a drag race! Don’t get me wrong I love Raptors and I would love the opportunity to own one, but you gotta respect the TRX.
Bro there is NO question about it.... I'm gonna save myself that $35k and get the REBEL. Personally, I LOVE the REBEL, and for me... It offers pleeeennytyyy of power.
I'd get the Rebel. 35 thousand is a big difference if that's your daily driver. I live in the city, and driving fast isn't much of an option in traffic plus traffic 🚦.
This is like comparing a Corvette to a Camaro. People who can't afford a Corvette buy the Camaro but if they had the money the majority would choose the Corvette. I am buying a TRX because I just can't get excited for the plain jane Rebel..
You said the hellcat engine is 20-30k. It's 21k and if you deduct the 5.7 hemi (8k) price from that It's really a 13k difference. So you're paying 17k-22k for a wide body and slightly better shocks and interior. The TRK looks great but the better value is the rebel.
I got my rebel 2023 for $73,000 It’s got the red and black interior Hemi ETorque to tow (12,750lbs) Digital gauge cluster Sport mesh seats and ram box bed All I’m missing now is that split tailgate if anyone knows where I can buy one besides eBay lol Love my truck! It looks mean and I use it for my business all day everyday (I’m a contractor) Constantly pulling trailers, hauling tools, materials Etc! Oh also I pulled my 40ft pull behind camper through the mudd in the rain! And it did perfect! 9,000 lbs and all
You could literally be hiding in the distance and wait for someone to walk past your tailgate on the Rebel and then hit the button on the remote and it would come down on them really fast. You could seriously kill someone with that tailgate!
Rather than repeat comments that I’m sure many other people have made, I just want to point out the one flaw that I seem to find in all of these really really high-end factory produced off-road vehicles like the TRX and the Ford raptor. That is it seems like all of this off-road performance comes at the expense of payload capacity, so the question becomes who wants to pay upwards of $80,000 for a TRX or over $110,000 for Ford raptor to have a vehicle that can take you anywhere off Road, but because of the reduced payload capacity, after you load the truck with yourself, a full tank of gas and a few friends you really can’t take anything else with you?
It’s absolutely wrong. That’s why I stay looking at 2019 fully loaded rebels for the cheaper price. These car manufacturers just pushing their luck seeing how much less they could put on the truck with buyers still buying.
I own a rebel and let me tell u I would never buy another rebel unless trx cause the airbag suspension sucks bad .I live in Alberta and every winter anything 20 below and colder and they go flat and then burns out the compressor mines a 2016 and I’m on fourth compressor and unfortunately dodge still uses it with no fix trx or nothing dealership service told me lots get them to put reg molar suspension but excuse me I didn’t buy a rebel to have reg suspension just buy warlock or reg truck then one pissed off ram lover who made mistake.you will spend half that 35000 to rip out the junk and put 6 inch lift in
Well if you make 150,000 a year or more i would go to TRX but less than 80k a year i would go to rebel, well of course i would choose the hell cat engine why not it depends on the budget
I just bought a 2021 Ram Rebel Night Edition all blacked out... It's amazing... drinks gas in the city though... but I never want to get out of the truck. LOL
Old enough to know that dodge has just recently come of age and was a out of date turd for a long time. Technician 31 years young grasshopper. PS they all use the German transmission and all are having problems!!!!
Honestly, I’d have both. Here’s why. I’m Leasing the Rebel for an everyday driver. Plus Towing Capacity. I don’t need a 2500 so I’m good with 11k. It’s a beautiful interior, with a great sound system. 19 speakers with H&K and 12 inch screen. It’s my perfect truck for everyday life and just enjoying the truck overall. Now TRX as it’s higher price with a lot of the same features. It’s my DREAM truck. It’s limited to towing capacity by a large margin. It’s not meant for towing in my opinion. It’s a truck made for speed and doing bad 🍑 stuff with it. TRX would be my garage truck. It’s honestly more for show then everyday driving. The bad fuel mileage would make anyone dread their live for every day driving lol.
it is not the most honest comparison as the Rebel is not fully loaded with all the options it can get while the TRX is more based on an offroad Limited.
I’m very proud of my 2020Rebel Blue 3.0L eco Diesel every day in Highway back and forth from home to work so much power/ fuel economy! I noticed people got crazy / jealous for my Blue boy I park at home in the street he smashed Egg in windshield now I parked in my garage so it won’t happen again
I hear 2022 trx getting upgrades after dude jumped it on tube and it got banged up and the air suspension blows on rebel or any other ram truck with that option nothing but headache in cold temps and I have 2016 and in 2021 still same shit with no fix I’m on fourth compressor and with last one I set height and locked it there to try not freeze the air lines still fucked never buy any ram with air suspension unless u live in warm climate
Anyone thinking of buying rebel with air suspension don’t the 2021 same as my 2016 and it sucks bad in winter on fourth compressor since 2016 the system has no dryer for the lines and condensation freezes leaving them flat then burns out compressor trying to pump up and csnt
I think the Rebel is all I would ever need. For sure that GREEN ass shit makes that TRX look BAD!!! Is this a science experiment to see how fast you can make a 90K car depreciate?
What are u talking about the different in the price is a way more than that the different is you paid sticker price on your trex because they won't take a penny off but not on the rebel I just brought my rebel for 57k sticker price was 64 some 🤣🤣
I have a Rebel and I have put 7,000 dollars in up grades . To give it the off road look and proformance . You can upgrade the engine . With up grade mods. KNS cold air intake , super charger, Edge Pulsar. Looking to do all that.
Hands down Ram made a Super truck, now the real issue comes on the affordability for us the middle class. I love everything that the TRX offers which the only thing missing from the concept was the side exhaust pipes. However as Ben mentioned the Hellcat engine alone is worth 30K+ meaning the TRX body alone is worth around 45-50K. Everyday use the Hellcat engine is too expensive and too much power for my needs, 10-12 avg MPG is way too low and 700+ HP is way too much power. Ram will need to bring a lower Trim TRX with either a modified 392 Hemi around 500+ HP range and or a modified 5.7L Hemi around the mid 400+ HP Range, both engines are worth less than half of the cost the hellcat engine. The 392 Hemi is worth 10K+ and the 5.7L V8 HEMI is around 5K+ so a decently equipped RAM TRX with either engine under 60K is feasible. So far will have to wait and see how Ram will respond to Ford for 2022 model years as the Predator is in the making along the new body frame improvements. Ford most likely will attack the price range with their base V6 Turbo.
Is that TRX yours? Just curious, I noticed you said "I debadged the tailgate". So I figured it probably must be your personal vehicle? If so, nice choice!
Just purchased the Rebel and enjoy it however with the 3.92 gears I can't get anything near the sticker mpg. I had a 2016 big horn with the 3.2 gears and could see 21 hwy. Best so far on the hwy is 14mpg.
As the owner of a 2017 specially built Rebel, I’ve had 4 years to test mine out. The TRX looks awesome but I think the only big difference between the two in true rock crawling off roading would be a little bit of clearance. I’ve taken my truck where most people said I wouldn’t be able to go. Off-roading has a lot to do with experience. So unless your into drag racing for money or extreme Baja you can get more bang for your buck worth the Rebel.
@@JamesMcGinn14 I personally never had any issues with the suspension. The only time I’ve ever had the suspension light come on is when I’ve over- loaded a trailer behind me. As far as off-roading goes as long as you stay below 25mph it will stay in off-road mode and you have max travel. Not sure if you’ve looked up some of the amateur videos I posted with my truck but it shows a little of what it can do.
I have the 2019 Ram Rebel. It looks exactly like the Ram in red color except it doesn’t have the front parking sensor, 🍎 radio, and sunroof and I’m very happy with it. The MSRP of my truck was less than $42,000. After taxes, 4% interests, and $3500 bumper to bumper package excluding the tires, it cost me little less than $50,000. The TRX looks really cool. The vent in the center of the hood with led lights looks very stylish. However, I don’t think it’s worth $35,000 more despite the upgraded shocks and fancy interior. The TRX is less economic, the tire placed on the bed leaves a very nominal room for subcontractors like myself to use it for business. So overall, I find the reddish Ram and mine more practical and economic.
The airbag issue of condensation freezing in the lines in the rebel still hasn’t been fixed in 2021 s and I own 2016 winter would b fun if could drive with air in the bags 🤬
