This is why a 7 bearing Shimano feels more smooth than an 11 or 12 bearing off brand. This Curado 150 MGL uses: 2 pinion bearings, 2 spool bearings, 2 main shaft bearings, and an Anti Reverse bearing for 7 total. Most others will stash 4 cheap bearings in the handle and sometimes 2 more on the levelwind to up bearing count. The 7 aforementioned locations are all you need. Most higher end Daiwas have the same, but the non free floating spool versions (like a Tatula) only run single pinion support...

If you had to pick a reel for deep diving crankbaits for bass would you pick the new Tranx 150 or the Curado 150 MGL? Fresh water only.
@JPDeRoseOutdoors
@JPDeRoseOutdoors 2 года назад
I would probably go with the 200K for the line capacity as you can really bomb big deep diving cranks. They also make a PG low gear ratio if you like that
@vtbass708
@vtbass708 2 года назад
Will it have enough line capacity to cast 1/2 and 3/4oz spinnerbaits for smallmouth on Champlain in the fall. Bombing long cast over big flats?
@JPDeRoseOutdoors
@JPDeRoseOutdoors 2 года назад
That will depend what pound test, mono, fluoro or braid.... What brand of fluoro or mono will also make a difference as some lines are significantly larger in diameter than other brands. Typically a 150 size reel has plenty of capacity. I use Curado DC which has a 150 spool and it holds 90 yds of 14 lb and the MGL150 is the same capacity. I throw 18lb FC Sniper for chatterbaits and spinner baits and never run out of line on bomb casts.

@@JPDeRoseOutdoors cool I usually use 17lb fluorocarbon thanks for the info

I’m confused. When adjusting breaks and fine tuning them to my liking, I need to be adjusting the brakes by flipping the those tabs in or out AND moving the number dial to find the best setting? I thought just moving the number dial is all you had to do. As in when I move the number dial, it moves the brake tabs in our out. Can anybody please help clarify this for me? Don’t wanna be messing with those tabs if I can just control it by the dial. Help! lol
@JPDeRoseOutdoors
@JPDeRoseOutdoors 2 года назад
The dial adjusts the tab setting. If you have two on and two off, the dial will only affect the two that are active. If you are a strong caster you can have less brakes active, if you are new you can have more. The dial is to fine tune the setting for you. Most people just leave two active and have the rest off.

@@JPDeRoseOutdoors The 16' Metanium is still one of my favorite reel but suffered from stripped aluminum gears. That was easily solve when I upgraded to brass gears. Absolutely but like all reel, proper maintenance is strongly recommended and do not, under any circumstances rinse your reels with hard sprayed water as it drives the salt into the reel, use a mist or rain like spray down.
