2021 Suzuki Swace Review | An Automotive Pair Of Socks
Hello guys, welcome back to Car Obsession, and welcome to the 'new' Suzuki Swace. Yes, it may look almost identical to the Toyota Corolla Touring Sports, and there is a good reason for that. Like the Suzuki Across I reviewed recently ( • 2021 Suzuki Across Rev... ), it's a car that has been built in collaboration with fellow Japanese car giant, Toyota.
Powered by a 1.8 litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and an electric motor, the Swace offers hybrid performance in a comfortable and practical bodyshape. It comes with a choice of two trim levels; SZ-T and SZ5. It's the latter that appears in this video, offering goodies such as LED headlights, 16" alloys, keyless entry, 8" touchscreen, DAB radio, Bluetooth, smartphone connectivity, front and rear parking sensors, reversing camera, heated front seats, wireless phone charging, plus much more.
As well as being comfortable and well-equipped, the Swace is frugal too, as it can offer up to 64.2mpg on a combined run, and it emits 99g/km of CO2. The Swace also offers an EV mode where the car can be driven on electric power alone but only for a short burst.
Prices start from £27,499 for the SZ-T and £29,299 for the SZ5, although the model tested is £29,899 due to the White Pearl paintwork.

I've ordered my Swace this week. I'd be interested in learning more about that CVT Rubber-banding, but if I want speed, I'll jump into my GTO. Like you said, you're not buying a Swace for its speed or dynamic driving. Comfort, reliability and practicality are the themes for me in a daily-driver.

Got ours just the other week. Its comfy and feels like a great family car. Impressed so far. Rubber banding will not be an issue unless pushed hard. Crazy thrifty

How are you getting on with the car?, I'm interested in getting one. How far can you go on electric?.
@sandyboots4754
@sandyboots4754 2 года назад
@@davidtaylorbfd I’m still enjoying the car. It doesn’t ever really run purely on either the electric motor or the petrol engine, it switches seamlessly between the two. You barely notice. Accelerate, and the engine kicks in. Get up to speed and ease off the gas, the engine switches off and the electric motor takes over. Even at 60mph, on the flat, it’ll run on the motor, until the battery charge drops to a certain level, at which point the engine will kick in again. I’m getting about 55 mpg around town, even on “sport” mode which is pretty quick and makes the vehicle surprisingly responsive in traffic.

I'll drive the facelifted Swace with 140 HP in 4 days and I'm excited! Why? Because the car is so unexcited 🙃 I own a Puma right now and I also tested the Focus Estate Active with the 155 HP Automatic and I was a bit disappointed... We already own a 2019 Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid and it's so smooth, comfortable and relaxing. The Puma is very agile and always "ready to jump". Sometimes I think my way of driving is too boring for that car 😆 It always tells me "give me more, give me more" but meanwhile I prefer the chilling way of driving. The Focus Estate is a great car and fun to drive... no doubt! But for such a big family car I'd like it to have a bit more comfy and calmly. We'll see what the Swace will be like. I also tested the Kia Niro HEV and I loved it... It's fantastic 👏

The E-CVT is an integral part of the hybrid system. And it's not a regular CVT either, but suffers from the same effect, although it is ultra reliable due to the reduced number of mechanical parts. Very clever system, to be fair. In effect, it's a Prius, with a big boot, like the Corolla Touring.

I've ordered this car at a price of 24250€ just today. I haven't driven it because they don't have this car availeble at test drive, but i'm thinking is better then the car a own at this moment: a 1.9 diesel seat altea xl from 2008.

From what I can see, with the Toyota you are paying more for the badge. Looking into it, you get more for your buck with the Swace, but 2 years less warranty.
@azualbet3805
@azualbet3805 2 года назад
Looks like it is cheaper in the used cars market and you get more tech. Only issue is you don't get the warranty service scheme like Toyota. But it is a Toyota inside so shouldn't have any issues if looked after.
@ipariszalonna
@ipariszalonna 2 года назад
In some countries the Suzuki warranty is better and there are more Suzuki dealerships (easier servicing). I went with the Swace for these reasons in Hungary. Plus they had one readily available in a dealership instead of 3-6 months wait times Toyota was telling me. And it was significantly cheaper with a nice discount.

@@CarObsession You have most definitely never owned a grand vitara in the noughties, quite possibly one of the worst cars of that generation. I had gearbox problems within a year of buying. Luckily enough didn't lose too much on it trading it in. My brother wasn't so lucky, he left a 6 year old grand vitara in Ireland, it was basically breaking down every other month with one thing or the other, it broke down again while he was in Ireland, it spent the week in a garage while he enjoyed his holiday. Then broke down again in Belfast in the stena line boat carpark. He left it after him unlocked with the keys in the glove compartment and a note with his name and address and the reason it was left there. (Folk were still very nervous seeing cars abandoned in car parks in Belfast back then lol) he Rang the first scrap dealer he could find in Belfast when he got home and told them where it was and to take it for nothing.

@NapoleonDynamites
@NapoleonDynamites 3 года назад
@@simonnorton3758 TBF I have never heard anything negative about the Swift, it was the Grand Vitara's that had an awful reputation back then. Although technology has moved on so much it wouldn't put me off buying a Suzuki, my wife had a Vitara in her short list a couple of years ago, she actually really liked it as well as the Honda hrv, but Nissan Qashqai's all round camera view won her over in the end.

Aaron Interior Materials and Quality is incredibly important. The type of materials used and if the interior has soft plastics or not is a very important part of the car. If there are no soft touch plastics on at least the dashboard in this segment then the car will be cheap, low quality and not worth buying.
@CarObsession
@CarObsession 3 года назад
It depends who you're asking. I've had some viewers say they much prefer hard plastics as they are easier to upkeep and they are more rugged, but I get what you mean.
@basyl2
@basyl2 2 года назад
yes you are being really harsh. it`s a car designed for low consumption. this review is all negatives all over.
@CarObsession
@CarObsession 2 года назад
How is it negatives all over? As much as I welcome feedback, I say your comment is equally really harsh and to say it's negatives all over is unfair and also incorrect. Almost from the get go I said it was very comfortable, how is that negative? I instantly followed that comment up by saying the car is laidback and very pleasant? I also said the engine is quiet when driving around town. I said the visibility is good, and also complimented the handling. I said the interior is nicer than the average Suzuki. All negatives all over? 🤔
@basyl2
@basyl2 2 года назад
@@CarObsession yep. I didn't last until the very end. Watched so many reviews for this car, did a test drive in the meantime, back to reviews. You can either ballance it with pros and cons, however when stating it's slow, etc what did you expect? All in all it's a best buy if you keep it for at least 75k km as the consumption is low and that's why I'm here and many others. You don't buy this car because it's fast, speedy, sport. You buy it for comfort and low consumption, plus the 10 year warranty. A true salesman's heart can accept feedback and this is my opinion, now a bit more detailed. Nothing personal.
@CarObsession
@CarObsession 2 года назад
@@basyl2 I'm not a salesman? Also, you say didn't last until the very end, but most of the positive points I mentioned were in the first part of the video? I'm all for accepting criticism, when it's fair, which I believe yours isn't. Yes I said it felt a bit slow, and then I countered that with saying it's not been designed for speed.
@basyl2
@basyl2 2 года назад

@CarObsession
@CarObsession 2 года назад
@@basyl2 I think you are misunderstanding me. I have no complaints about recieving feedback that's not positive, but not when it's inaccurate. You said my review "is negatives all over", which simply isn't the case - THAT is my frustration. Thank you for watching, and thank you for taking the time to give me feedback. You may think I'm a bitter person that can't take feedback, but if you got to know you'd know that's not the case. Edit: If I had a viewpoint in which I loathed negative feedback so much and couldn't take it, I would simply just delete the comments I don't like, which is something I NEVER do. Or, I would simply ignore them, but I've taken time out to converse with you to delve deeper in your feedback. I wouldn't want to do that if I didn't want to genuinely engage with you.
