I bought a 2021Corolla hybrid w/ blind spot monitor. I've had it for about 3 weeks and LOVE the car. It has decent acceleration for a hybrid, is pretty comfortable, and best of all, I'm averaging 63.7 mpg!!!! I'm a mobile dog trainer and do a lot of driving. Well worth the money.
For about $3000 over a Corolla LE, you get the hybrid system plus the the electronic center gauge cluster, smart key entry with push button start and alloy wheels instead of steel wheels under the hubcaps. You also get lower maintenance costs since it barely uses the brake pads and has no belts (no fan belts or other engine belts, no CVT belts etc.). You obviously save a lot on fuel, have a much longer driving distance between fuel stops and get significantly quicker low speed acceleration from a stop. The more you drive on stop and go surface streets, the more benefits you will get get in brake pad savings, better fuel economy and acceleration vs the gas version LE. Plus you should get some of that extra $3000 back at resale time especially if selling with some of the 10 year 150K mile hybrid warranty remaining. No warranty coverage of any kind left on gas Corolla past 5 years, 60K mikes unless you paid extra for an extended warranty.
I just got this guy, my first car that is fully my own, and could not be happier with it. Most of my driving is in stop and go traffic. I forgot the last time I filled up. :P
In Canada, we get a premium package with softtex leather seats, leather steering wheel, heated front and back seats, heated steering wheel, and i think other features for $2k CAD extra 🙌🏻🙌🏻
got the 2021 hybrid and absolutely love it. currently getting 55.5mpg. came from an 06 Acura Tl. I miss the heft and wider wheelbase. the corolla is a little squirrelly steering compared to the Tl. could just be differences in the power steering systems. all in all though zero regrets going hybrid. had to fill up the Acura twice a week with premium fuel, down to once a month with regular. what a ridiculous savings
You missed the 3 driving modes, Standard, ECO, & Power. I'm getting 60mpg if I drive using the eco computer. In EV mode, you can top out at 150mpg! EV acceleration also reacts differently depending on which mode your in. The AC also has 2 modes. This car runs so cool that I found myself in 90° weather with just the fan on. I'm super pleased with this car. If you can't get laid in this car, it's because you have a "small" personality!
11:55 Just so people know, the U.S. model 2021 Corolla Hybrid does NOT include a spare tire. It has a fix-a-flat sealant/compressor kit. Someone creative figured out there's enough space to fit a full size spare tire after you remove all of that foam under the carpet... Oddity is that the Canadian model does come with a spare tire.
Not sure why hybrid reserved for only a base model - but it really is a great value for someone seeking super eco & reliable transportation like a long distance commuter to & from work everyday. I’m always impressed by the variety of reviews you guys do; there are so many consumer markets in car world, & you cover so many of them! Great work & a good review even for the “sensible shoe” of cars! (Love the continuing run with the coupons!!)
The warranty for the battery is 100,000 miles -which seems like a lot- but on a regular Toyota that's just getting it broken in. I bet its expensive to replace.
This is my first brand new car- and coming from a 2005 Ford Escape, man this thing is godly. Maybe not as many features as more expensive trims but definitely updated features for 2021- especially the cruise control that helps keep you in the lane and distances from other cars. It feels like 70% Tesla at times. I drive a lot and have stop&go traffic at least once a week. With my escape? Filling up twice a week easily and won’t make unnecessary trips downtown (San Diego), but in this Corolla? I OFFER to pick up my friends food orders just to drive it and keep going everywhere. I’m down a quarter of a tank (haven’t filled it since I got it) @ 200 miles- mostly highway. I’m already saving money and that’s really what I wanted
In Europe the Corolla Hybrid is available as a sedan like this, a hatchback like a VW Golf, and a wagon. Where I live the wagon is also available as a 2-liter hybrid that has 180 hp, and that gets to 100 kph in about 8 seconds. The car is hugely popular, especially the wagon version, so the waiting time for a new sedan with typical options is about 14 weeks in my area.
I bought this car specifically for rideshare. It is my rolling lemonade stand. The mileage is real and seems like a bigger car than it is. I tend to drive my cars to 250K. With with this car after 100,000 miles, I will know I made about $100,000 minus gas, ins and payment which total less than .18 per mile.
Great review of the Corolla hybrid. Loved how you both kept laughing at the acceleration lol :-) Seems it is quieter than came across on camera. It's popular in the UK and is available in saloon (sedan), hatch and estate (station wagon!). Have a good day guys :-)
I guess it's a bit weird they only offer it in LE trim. OTOH, some people want a hybrid and can't afford top trims so this might be good for some. Nice video guys! :D
I've had mine for two months now. I bought it for the insane gas mileage. Not disappointed. Getting 55mpg around town. I find it comfortable. I would have liked a moon roof and heated seats. But hey. 55mpg! Oh, guys, ditch the coupons. All those coupons are available on an app!😂
Hassan SMW Toyota’s hybrids arent complicated. They are actually very simple. The gearbox they use isn’t a real cvt like a Corolla or civic. It’s basically a pair of electric motors inside and there are no gear sets or reverse gear.
Hassan SMW hybrids do have technology that not every mechanic can fix. But as I said earlier, the way Toyota and Lexus design their hybrids are the reason why Toyota and Lexus hybrid are by far the most reliable drivetrains In any modern car. Yes I do agree that it sounds complicated, but in reality it’s not. Because it has very few moving parts less is likely to go wrong
@@naveenthemachine agree..toyota is on another level in their engineering and their production system is unmatched. They manage to produce more than anyone and still manage to keep the quality
I get around 55-57 mpg. I drive 160 miles a day. About 98% highway. 62mph is the sweet spot on Cruise control. The engine turns off and uses the hybrid mode when it’s level ground or down hill. When not using cruise control you can use the electric motor alone with the engine off up to 70 mph BUT you have to be progressive with the gas pedal. I bought mine in July 2021, I already have 15,000 miles! No regrets. I get about 550 miles per tank. Only has a 10 gallon gas tank.
"you could be saving on gas and on food in this Corolla hybird..." Awesome! Kinda bummed that you guys did not swing by BK. I like the all weather floor mats and trunk mat as well. Have a great day.
I drive for a living and the gas savings from my prior vehicle (Scion Xb) reduces the adjusted monthly payment cost significantly. The distance between fueling is incredibly favorable. The keyless entry and push button start is very convenient in general but has an enhanced special convenience considering I drive for a living and am entering and exiting the vehicle approximately 40 times per week. Unfortunately the audio connection to the cell phone is a failure and using my vehicle for a living makes that failure significantly annoying. The steering assist and the speed/breaking control is nice. The blue tooth connection is so problematic that I dislike the car. The mileage is remarkable. Major News Flash: I drove about 8900 miles in the 4 months of ownership and I average 61 mpg.
J High This car beats the Honda Insight in almost every way. Price, MPG, Styling, Interior styling, reliability, the infotainment system, and much more! I would take this Corolla over the Insight all day.
i bought the corolla hybrid 2021, i wanted blue or blackbut they were not available i got white pearl, with soft leather like seats, its a fast car if you use it on the city about more than 120kmx per hour the engine sounds a little forced but i think there should be no problem, i love the MPG but here is kilometers per hour i drove 390kms and just spend half the gas tank...love it
Really wish they offered the hatchback in a hybrid as well. With a lease payment of $179/mo I will have to check this out in October when my current lease is up. I'm not excited about most the cars out there right now, so this may be a decent car to drive for a few years and save a bunch of money every month.
Had a 3rd gen Prius, now a 4th gen...a much better car, in fact, the most enjoyable car/m/c I have owned for several years. The hatch is the reason I would NOT consider a Corolla. Thanks.
That radio does not sound bad for a base system. How was it driving with the urethane wheel without leather? My only concern with urethane would be that it would be rough to the touch and therefore unpleasant to steer with. One other notable change which I liked was that in 2020 you could not get Satellite radio in the Corolla Hybrid. That was added for 2021. One thing I had heard though not confirmed but makes sense when you think about it. Apparently Toyota did not want cannibalize sales from it's Prius by offering a more upmarket Corolla also in Hybrid. Would be nice to be able to option in the JBL system or native NAV but as you said full smartphone integration is available and the base radio sounds much better than I was expecting.
I need your opinion, please. I have never had a hybrid and I don't have access to outside power for EV only. I am primarily interested in the electric motor torque. Between the Corolla, Insight, Sonata, Accord and Camry, which one provides the greatest torque at start? I know Honda uses EV to power the car and the gas engine charges the battery. Is that felt in the take off more than the Corolla? Does the Sonata provide the more comfortable ride and still deliver off the line power? How would you actually compare these cars? If you already have a video, please direct me.
@@fidelm3371 honestly I really miss my Prius... what I miss about it is the space it was a little more spacious, it was basic so there was nothing really to compare I definitely have more features now the ride is smooth, I feel slightly higher, idk but I feel like my gas mileage on the Carolla is slightly better, Apple car play is awesome, and the power mode is powerful... lol I like it I just miss my Prius style I guess...
One question: at 11.59 mins you mention a spare tire. Toyota web site does not show a spare include with the hybrid model. Many hybrid cars instead offer a flat fix kit instead. Which is correct?
The regular Gas power LE is $3000 cheaper. That'll buy over 1000 gallons of gas. It'll be over 40,000 miles before the hybrid saves You any money on fuel. Plus the hybrid is slower.
I'm hoping that Toyota will make a Corolla Hybrid SE or XSE trim to.make it look better just like what they have on a Camry Hybrid. The wheels on this Corolla are a big turn off for me but overall it looks great.
How quickly is this engine going to burn oil by cranking up to a high rmp from cold because the electric means I can't warm it up in the morning. Can you warm up the engine or is it just electric motor and then the engine cranks up cold? 😅 If kinda like to be able to warm the engine up a bit before I have to mash the gas you know?
Strange marketing. Toyota was finally smart enough to offer a hybrid in Camry XSE trim, yet in the Corolla, they only offer it in the bland-looking LE trim.
Reviewers keep getting this wrong. It’s not a CVT and you guys should be able to explain that to your viewers. The term “e-CVT” is marketing for simple-minded people. Toyota’s hybrid drive has never been a CVT. It’s a dual motor generator connected to a planetary gear set that acts as a transmission. There’s no pulley and belt system. It acts more like a direct drive EV, much like Honda’s hybrid drivetrain.
It’s because the engine turned on when he shifted out of park or it’s a sound so people hear it, and when he shifted back to park the park brake engaged
I am thinking that would effectively be a Prius, so they may not bother (they are about the crane size, etc.). Also since the Corolla brand does not have a hatchback model, at least in the NA region...
Yes, I'm am 6' 5" myself, the seat lowered all the way down, and slid back, with the steering wheel all the way out and some bit down, the head gap from the headliner is about an inch from my head, I fit comfortable, so I would say you could too, I hope this helps
