Rewatching this before the 2024 olympic trials. So excited!! Simone looks so sad here, in comparisan to the us championship this year. Looks like she is in a much better place now!
@@kathleendoyle8862 It is crazy how shilese has improved! Honestly i did not even remember that she was part of the trials last time. Hoping that the withdrawal from us chapionship was just a precaution. My guess for the team is Simone Shilese Suni Skye and probably Jade. What are your presictions?
@@juliehansen7549 Yes! I can’t wait to see Shilese in Paris! I’m thinking Simone, Suni, Shilese, Skye & Jordan. I think Skye’s vault just might edge Jade out! I also think last Olympics was just a reminder to have a deep/well rounded squad because you never know what could happen. I also just really am a fan of Jordan 🤣so maybe I’m wishful thinking
@@kathleendoyle8862 i think it is going to come down to wether they want someone who might medal/make ef with Jade, or another solid all arounder with Jordan/Kayla or someone else. I would take Jade as it is now. I dont see anything stopping USA from winning team gold. Even if we should have a similiar situation with Simone like in tokyo, or shilese shoulder will be a problem. It is going to be very interesting to see how everyone does at the trials. I am sure there will be some surprises. And then I think it will all come down to what the selection comitee prefers. From previous years it they have seemed to prefer solid aa over potenial ef and medals, so they may do the same this year. I just dont think they really need more security for the team final, they are so far ahead!
I was just watching Tokyo qualifications and she looked so sad. I know we're all so happy for her that's she's in a better place now. Can't wait for this weekend!!
Watching this after Mykayla Skinner’s comments about the 2024 team. Hearing Terry say how she thought being a 2016 alternate was so hard is eye opening. She’s always made it seem like being an alternate was awful. I’m sure it’s definitely not ideal, but Jocselyn Roberson is a 2024 alternate and has said it’s a dream come true! I think it’s all about perspective and Mykayla’s perspective is/was ‘woe is me’. Entitled is a word that comes to mind.
Suni Lee is truly a marvel. I absolutely adore her and it’s so sad she had to retire from collegiate because of her kidney. I hope she’ll be able to make it to Paris. I have no doubt there’s a spot there for her, but I only hope her health will keep her on track.
@@xxuy393 she already has given up college, and will pretty much have to go pro to continue her quest for Paris 2024! I can’t wait to see what she does
Suni didn't quit because of her kidney, She had announced before the season started she was taking her last year of college gymnastics to try for the olympics. Hope goes well next year!😊
Came back here to re-watch in the run up to the Olympics. For me the story of Jordan Chiles will always be one of the best stories in sports about perseverance, not giving up, and achieving your dream against all odds: a one-time - and now a two-time - Olympian. Who would have thought that was possible in 2017. So proud of her, and of course all the other gymnasts, it is incredible to see a lot of them still doing incredibly well in 2024.
And not to forget about Emma Malabuyo who saw her Olympic dream end in those trials in 2021, and now she is finally going to the Olympics three years later ❤
She didn't unravel here. She has said many times that she likes to make the mistakes before a big meet lime the worlds or Olympics to get the jitters out
This team selection didn't make any sense. It only eventually worked out because Simone couldn't finish, but honestly why would you put two floor and vault specialists on the specialist spot with Simone already taking at least one place on those finals. Should have had either Jade or McKayla on the team to help with that floor and vault they needed, Grace couldn't deliver there.
@@KeeHart Jade could have moved to the team. They should have done that considering they needed a good vaulter and good floor worker. McKayla should have stayed home and they could have taken 2 specialist who actually had a chance to medal in EF like Kara Eaker and Riley McCusker
@@charitybosuaif Jade didn't take that specialist spot she earned, team USA would have lost that spot. That's why Jade was never going to be picked for the team. No one wanted to lose the spot.
@@KeeHart Confused about saying Mykayla wasn't reliable. She's one of those gymnasts that seems to do better the more pressure is on her. She always delivered at big international competitions.

Watching this live I felt so bad for McKayla. Two Olympic trials and she's named an alternate for both. I'm glad she was able to get her Olympic silver on vault.
She wasn't an alternate. She was on the US Olympic team, but not in a team spot but rather in an individual specialist one (like Jade Carey). The alternates were Kara, Emma, Leanne, and Kayla.

@@Kayyleeeeee Leanne was strong all season but coming back and rewatching, I think the reason they chose Grace over Leanne was consistency. Especially seeing her beam night one with the couple big stumbles, the coaches really look for the most consistent performance possible, not even the most points, but who will they be able to get the most consistent results out of
@@taylorburtis she’s been doing gymnastics on her college team (Arizona) still and doing very well. I think she’s taking time off elite but not 100% retired. I think I saw an interview with her where she was like “we’ll see”

Honestly the construction of this team was poor at best with only four spots on the team they needed an all rounder who excelled on all four events an all rounder who didn’t excel on anyone specific event but was decent enough on all four then you needed one who’s best events were bars and beam and then finally one who’s best events were floor and vault by taking both Jordan and Grace they made themselves extremely weak on floor and vault and therefore the only way they could and would win was if Simone had competed all four events and without her they had no shot of winning

You know, you can easily go to the Olympics RU-vid or the USA Gymnastics RU-vid and you can see every single routine and have no commentating at all. That’s a thing you can do. Try it for this Olympics coming up if it makes you that angry.
Ok. So this is my issue. Simone Biles is without doubt the most successful gymnast of all time but the best gymnast of all time? No the best of her era absolutely. Korkina was once considered the greatest of all time 3 Olympic games and Prodinova done a more difficult vault than the double back pike she done a double tuck front on the vault. Gymnastics works in eras it evolves
Okay, I hear you and understand your feelings, but I believe the back pike and prodonova vaults are rated the same in difficulty. I know the back pike isn't in the COP yet, but still.
You honestly cant compare the difficulty of the two vaults. Productions was done in the old system of the perfect 10. Simone was done in the new open ended scoring system
