2021 Hyundai Veloster N DCT - Plenty of Exhaust and Engine sounds!
I've test driven 2021 Hyundai Veloster N DCT on a 40-minute-long test drive out the rural area of Goyang, Korea.
Departing from Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang, I tried capturing the essence of POV video, focusing on giving you what it's like to be in a 2021 Veloster N DCT, and how it feels like to drive one.
As mentioned earlier in the video, I got the permission to take video footage before I jumped in to the test drive, and earlier chopped video is from a previous brief test drive I did in a different Veloter N DCT for 5 minutes.

I currently drive a 2019 DCT and love it. I'm definitely switching to the DCT N once it's in the US but this time I think I'll wait a year or two to hopefully get access to more colors (for the longest time the only N you could find in my area is Performance Blue and I seriously dislike the color) and to get into a build that had all first year recall issues fixed. Thanks for the review!

LOL I see that Performance Blue isn't for everyone. Well I bought black over blue myself. Wait until you drive this wet 8spd DCT. It is something....something big.

Was never into autos because of the shifting lag but this DCT is quick great video hope to see more :) Straight line they are fast with a chip and hiflow cat down pipe there's a vid of a guy in Germany doing 170mph in the I30 N.

VN DCT is definitely quieter than the manual one. But this can easily be reverted with a quick swap. I will flood the channel with VN DCT vids, once I get mine :D

Nice video. I'm debating buying now or waiting for 2021. Either way, I want the manual trans, but I'm sorta waiting to see the pricing on the 2021 (in the US) to see if the added features are worth it. Do you know how much more in KRW the 2021 is selling for in Korea over the 2020? With Performance Pack. Thanks!

I can't pull off the exact $ now, but as for the year difference, there hasn't been much change, if not stayed the same -- also there's been gov't subsidy lately due to the incident -- so prices are all mixed up now. DCT is a bit more expensive them being.

I currently drive an 18 elantra sport, 1.6t manual. Previously I had an 18 elantra sport with 7speed dct. I’m curios with the VN dct now having 8 speeds, how is the range in the gears? In the dct elantra I had to always keep it in sport mode otherwise it would put itself in like 5th barely reaching 40 mph for fuel efficiency

It would probably do similar under "ECO" mode, but Sports and N Mode will wait until forever for you to be the judge. It will even push right there at the rev limiter to shift down, if you ask it to do so. If you're in N mode, and manually shifting with the paddles and you accelerate hard, will the DCT transmission automatically shift at red line or just bounce off the rev limiter until you manually shift???

Can I ask you, the N Performance Intake, someone in the US tells me that he saw a few videos and the intake sounds high pitched and squeaky? I live in Korea and I've seen a few VNs with the N Performance Intake, and I could barely hear the intake. As an owner, could you shed some light?

There's definitely the sound uniquely from the N Perf intake over the stock. It's kinda the turbo whistle - stutu - without the tutu part. Trying my best to describe the sound here, it sounds like the excessive air being regurgitated. It is somewhat high pitched, but barely noticeable from the cabin, nearly none from the outside. Lastly, Hyundai never revealed #s associated with N Perf intake, I'm skeptical if it has any meaningful upgrade compared to the stock.

Wouldn't rly recommend it unless you want to have that tiny portion of see-through intake cage + keep in mind the filter is wet not dry. Requires some knowledge and effort to take care of it and is nearly impossible to find anything in stock despite it being an OEM.

This might be my next car. The performance and handling jump would probably be big especially coming from a civic 2.0 non turbo sedan sport.

That's what I m looking for, a really fun daily driver. If I wanted to drag race on the street I'd buy a 717 HP supercharged Dodge Hellcat. But what's the point really? I'm too old to go cruising for chicks. 😉

Do you keep controlling gears from the paddles or does the transmission itself shift in a way to makr it feel like a manual?

You can do both. Auto transmission reacts a bit differently depending on drive modes. The more sports mode you put, more reactive it'd be, of course. Downshifts when you are braking is much faster than a manual for sure, no match.

Hyundai you need to advertise these cars more I’ve seen 2 sitting at the dealer I bought mine at for way too long these cars are great and I love mine but I’d love to se a bigger hype for them...

Are you kidding bro they advertise the crap out of this car. They literally had the hoonigans and donut media base several episodes based on them. The problem is people still see it as just a HyUNdAi. And it will take time till people stop seeing it that way.

There were much sarcasm with N brand originally in Korea, but that quickly faded away after more ppl started driving it. Hope that'd be the case for the States and rest of the world :D

Crispy Carson it’s been out 2 yrs and I just heard of it a few weeks before I bought mine ,and at my dealer there is no hype or advertising... I mean at the Honda dealer the type r was in the showroom being showcased ... my dealer had my car buried in the lot they had to move 5 cars to get it out ...

How do you feel about the DCT shift time？ How it compares to a M4 Dct ect.？Does it shift quick and accurate？

There's actually been a comparison with M DCT & PDK as well, the result is that it is slower than two, of course. But it is somewhere where M DCT sits. Especially with NGS, the shift is quicker. And this is limited to downshifts only. Upshift, we are talking about nano second difference in these days.

I live in a area where is snows a bit. The only reason I'm held on getting this car is that it doesnt seem good in snow. It would be amazing if in the future this could come in a AWD for more money. Perhaps to compare to the STi and Golf R. Great car though, just not sure about my area.

I'd say they are two different breeds. Manual can never replace DCT, and same for the DCT as well. Nice Video! I think the car is really good... I have a VW and am looking very very close at Hyundai as an option for next year... only 1 thing i need to know because i would miss it! If the Veloster N won´t make it to Germany/ EU the i30 sure will... DCT is a perfect addition to the car and the performance!(Yes people DCTs are more performant than manuals... just look at Motorsports!) to my question: will the DCT "Facelift" have a ACC systerm comparable to VWs Radar controlled distance cruise control!?

If you are referring to HDA, Highway Driving Assist, it's currently unavailable on VN DCT. However, it has front cameras that allow Hyundai Smart Sense, which allows LKA and so on. Not comparable to that of PDK's, but it sure is somewhere along the other DCT's for sure.
