Comparing Veloster N DCT to a Veloster N Manual. The old vs. new.
The long waited 2021 Hyundai Veloster N DCT is finally here!
Before we take a look at which Veloster N best suits you,
what are the DIFFERENCES between the two?
This is the first video answering the question,
which will show you 5 VISIBLE differences between the two.
Due to long description,
here are elaborations on the pros and cons for the "N light bucket seats".
PROS:
- Provides more stability in holding a driver/passenger; however, this could solely be due to the material used for the seat; Alcantara.
- There are built-in side airbags.
- N emblem "lights" up.
- Very competitive pricing($1,100 for a pair) when looking for a bucket seat; and is N brand original!
- Side bolsters are too high(Applies to both).
CONS:
- Heated seats only, no ventilated seats - cannot be added.
- The seat position remains the same as the leather seats, still too high from the ground.
- Leather seats feel more comfy and cozy.
- Far more difficult than leather seats to keep clean & clean up.
- Side bolsters are too high(Applies to both).

awesome! I used to work at a Hyundai before the virus and we still have the same N line Veloster that I took in from shipping about a year ago. I can drive it alright and it is awesome (love the exhaust crackle when you clutch in), but no one is buying it. All the customers interested are instantly turned off when they see the manual. The times I witnessed people going on test drives resulted in a lot of stalling. A lot of the time people couldn't even make it off the lot before giving up. This DCT definitely will bring a new wave of auto buyers. Even I'm interested for my Chicago commute, but the civic hatch is just so much cheaper for me to buy

Many think that NGS(N Grin Shift) needs be used in all single 20 seconds, but it can be divided up to as much as one wants, up to 20 seconds. The manual you are comparing to is a 2020 or 2021? Will the manual not have those seats? Also are the 19” light weight wheels available to purchase now over there? I’d be interested in a set.

it is 2020, but manuals can have the identical additional parts as options too, but that's Korea, not sure about other countries

They are absolutely stunning. I personally like this one the best on the OEM cars, except for those which simply threw in conventional bucket seats from other expert manufacturers(like Recaro, etc.).

The DCT is looking really nice a huge improvement over the past DCTs in Hyundai and Kia cars I would still go with a manual but need to try out the DCT!

I have the 2020 N Performance Manual - How do I get the N-Light Bucket seats Heated / ventalated?

Those are available from the factory starting with 2021 models both DCT and manual. N-Light Buckets only offer heated seats, if you want heated&ventilated seats, you'd have to go with the regular ones we've seen in earlier Veloster N's. *Please subscribe, like and have notifications on for fast and precise reviews on newly released Genesis, Hyundai and Kia! 🙏

A few questions if anyone can help me out! Looking between this updated model and a 2020 veloster N Are all these options going to be translating to the US market as well? IE sunroof/ heated seats and steering? Is the sunroof now standard if so? Any info on when these will be available as a 2021 in the US as i cant find an exact time frame. Hope this is not too late. Recent comments told me that N light bucket seat is a go for US market as well, and sunroof has always been an option for Korean market as well.

It's hard to figure out because there are no direct shots, but did they made the plastics on the doors and dash nicer? They were solid hard looking before, but on this they seemed to have a bit of a texture to them, might just be light doing tricks, but I'd much rather ask.

I can't be 100% sure here, but nothing else's been changed except for what I've mentioned in this video as for VISIBLE differences/changes between DCT/manual. Enjoying my 2019 manual VN but with the updated seats and the DCT I'm going to be looking into upgrading. I put 25k miles on my VN in 13 months - I was one of the first to buy one in the US.

It looks to me like the sport bucket seats sit lower in the car which makes perfect sense since you want to sit lower for spirited driving. How does the DCT compare to the manual in terms of performance and fun factor?

It's been found that the seating position is exactly the same for N light bucket seat to that of the OEM leather seats. They are using essentially the same base frame, only the upper part(seat) is different. So, if you are in the market of looking for a lowered seat position, that may not be the best solution. People are looking into options of lowering it with a different base support, so stay tuned, I'll get them when they're out, try it on my VN DCT. As for the fun factor, I dare to say that unless you are in absolute need of driving a stick shift, DCT is better in almost every single way. That's the reason why I bought a DCT after test driving it 2 times. The wet 8spd DCT makes driving VN so much fun. You should really drive one to get what I'm saying. In Australia we are not able to get the Veloster N. We have only the i30n. So I would love to get my hands on the dct version.

love those seats! and blue belts are also INCREDIBLE :) Im waiting for i30n dct with those upgrades BTW it is very good that sides are high! This is bucket so it should be like that. I had the same in my cupra R (also alcantara) and all hothatches should have seats like this one :)

Exactly. That's why I put them both on Pros and Cons :) But as you've said, mostly it'd be an advantage to Veloster N owners. Envy you, hope Korea gets i30N as well. I'm waiting to hear how responsive the shifting is. If it's line the GTI it's too slow but more like the C8 and I'll consider the car.

If you are referring to the old DSG of GTI's, the VN's DCT is far better for sure -- IDK about the C8, wasn't lucky enough to drive one, or even see one in Korea lol. Yeah mine does it too. Perfectly fine for cars to do that. The idea is that it still pumps the water through the engine when it is off because it sees it is too warm to just turn it off fully. Lots of cars will do this with electric fans. Usually will happen if it is hot outside or it is driven hard and then turned off.

It's perfectly okay. No problem whatsoever, and it's there to first, better the cooling of the fluids to further protect the engine, rather than shutting it off immediately. Yes Hyundai has confirmed the new seats will be on the 2021's coming this fall along with the safety features like lane assist and blindspot. Trust me I'm having an extremely hard time waiting for the 2021's when I have a dealer who gave me a decent price on a 2020. I'm trying to find out if we can just order these seats and install. If so I'll be grabbing a 2020 for sure.

3:02 is that an N with a sunroof?? Although it adds weight, I love the panoramic sunroof on my 13 VT, and if I one day bought an N, I honestly would miss the sunroof in the summer

If this was available for a manual in the States, then there is no reason not to have it on latest models. If a manufacturer takes out a feature, it's mostly due to safety or any regulations that differ from a country to another. Simply put, if you had it for the past models, you will have it for the latest models as well.

Been waiting for the DCT. This is an unpopular opinion, but I wish they gave an option for more creature comforts and a sunroof. I'll be driving the car normally most of the time. Been driving a 2013 Veloster Turbo for 7 years now, and I think the choice to make the car more bare-bones is weird, especially looking at the competition.

Sadly, the US gets lesser of Veloster N. In Korea, you can choose a wide sunroof as an option and seats, etc. - have it on my VN

I wonder how much weight the Veloster N gained and how much weight bias has shifted forward with the DCT; also, how does that effect performance? I feel Hyundai should’ve retuned the suspension & gave a little more power due to drivetrain losses.

WOW. You are very on point! There will be a next follow-up video on those issues, "5 INVISIBLE differences" video. It will be up in a few days. VN DCT actually gained 50kg(110lb) from the DCT, and they had to change from camber, stiffer stabilizer bars, and some other gimmicks to better DCT while giving as much fun/performance as a manual. This is a great upgrade but they are still missing the mark when it comes to HP and TQ. They say the stock internals can handle 350 HP so they should bump up the HP to 300 and TQ to at least 275.

Might have to buy some of those seats for my manual 2020 haha. Otherwise still DEFINITELY want the manual version. And it's still faster too (5.2sec 0-60 manual Performance Pack vs 5.6 DCT). Doing mods also much easier to handle with the manual especially to upgrade the clutch and various parts

CarSceneKorea oh they didn't give performance package numbers. 5.9 manual to 5.6 dct for standard version is what I'm seeing. If dct performance package gets 4.9sec that's pretty good! But with the $2000 difference I'll have intake, intercooler, downpipe, and tune and be down around 4sec flat anyway haha

The N models are beautiful, only 2 things I would change. 1. a different shift knob for the DCT 2. steering wheel should be flattened like in other sporty cars ( like the Audi S/RS models)

Hyundai redesigns models about every three years so I'm waiting to see the 2022 Veloster prototype. If it's as ugly as the new Accent and Elantra designs will definitely go for a 2021 N DCT. Forte GT got a flat bottom steering wheel and looks like the same 8" touchscreen to me so you never know though.

If you are looking for dsg because you cant drive manual, the manual on the N is so easy you can easily drive it off the lot. To get moving you do not even need to push the gas.

What Veloster N enthusiasts asked for: 1) AWD 2) Heated seats (since we have the fake buttons anyway) What we got: 1) Electronic safety nannies (the original N not having these is what made it great) 2) Light-up N logos on the seats (who cares? We asked for HEATED seats) 3) DCT that nobody asked for And expecting us to shell out $2,000 extra for all these changes that we don't want. The original Veloster N was purist gold, why are they trying to turn it into a mom car? I legitimately feel betrayed by Hyundai. For years I have wanted this car for so bad and was 100% sold. Now, it literally will come down to if the $2,000 bump includes heated seats or not. The N was designed for the TRACK. That's what N Mode IS. Why would I want lane keep assist and adaptive cruise on a track? For a car that is designed to oversteer with the help of an LSD and has "Nurburbring" in it's name? Absolutely appalling. Hyundai will keep adding these bumps until the Velo N is the same price as the Type R, at which point N sales will be non-existent.

Manual sounds more aggressive than the dct. You get more pops & bangs with manual cuz there is a little pause when you shift then the dct.

It is available for a purchase in Korea, sold separately, as well as an option before buying the car. Hope it's the case for you as well. It is approximately $1,100 USD for a pair and only sold as a pair.

As much as I want to you help a fellow N enthusiast out, I just can't. I am not affiliated in automotive scene, neither Hyundai. Also I am clueless as they'd be sold elsewhere other than Korea. What I can tell you is that those N parts are Hyundai genuine items, yet mostly are made by the approved 3rd party, which are also installed in a separate place not Hyundai factory. At the moment, those seats are hard to cop even for Koreans, and VN's w/ those add-on's are hardly keeping up to the demand. Often, cars are being delayed due to those items being delayed. Once productions and demands are fulfilled for Korean market and customers, probably Hyundai'd make it possible for an extra purchase, and maybe there are companies that are willing to ship it overseas for customers. At the end, it is all about the supply and demand, and price as we all know. Hope this helps!

What about MPG with the 8 gear dual clutch trans? Over 30 MPG would be awesome in a car with 275 HP. Being an old fart I'll probably only use N mode 5% of the time (to embarrass young whippersnappers) so would rather save some gas/money the other 95% time when I'm listening to smooth jazz. 😀

@@CarSceneKorea +.2 sec 0-60 would be worth +2 MPG for me. Anywho, 2020's go for US$27,400 and with perf package US$29,500 according to Hyundai USA website. Hopefully 2021 N w/DCT won't be too much more. I'm planning on trading my 2019 Accent for one sometime next year. 😉

I'm confused, on other channel they said DCT was faster than manual 0-100 KPH. They also showed one in performance package blue next to another N with performance "parts" like bigger wing and more carbon fiber. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what actually hits the US market. But if it's faster and gets better highway gas mileage then that's a win-win scenario for me. I'm already saving up my cash for one! 😀

Hope this'd clear things up. DCT will have better MPG for sure. Not by a huge gap, but will certainly be more noticeable if you drive often on city roads. DCT is faster than manual in 0-100 KPH, and the starting price is about $2k more expensive than the manual for the DCT. As for the N Performance parts, they are available as a factory tune option, which is "upgraded" with those parts you've asked for at a different factory(non Hyundai, but a sister company). IDK how it'd be for the States, good chance they will just import the entirely built cars of a few variants, and have them available for the market.

Kind of dumb that the max price has basically jumped 10k with all the packages. Why not include everything g like the manual in the US. the only option is the performance package. Top of the line for 29k. Any more is too much for a car with a cheap interior.

Manuals are not quicker anymore. Even though I'm a manual driver. You can't beat a computer at spilt second gear changes so this one is quicker than the manual. Many people were waiting for this model to be released globally. DUAL CLUTCH TRANSMISSION. Traditional automatics do not have clutches. So don't confuse this with a traditional automatic. Bisically its like a manual transmission but the computer engages the clutch for you. Top professional race cars don't use transmissions with clutch pedals anymore, its outdated and much slower.

Auto is crap they should have done all these upgrades to the manual n left the auto with all the original seats n lights. Those seats are sweet! Auto is NOT!

Haha many(even professional drivers) including myself thought the same. Don't get me wrong, I have a manual car too. But after driving this thing...well I bought it. Give it a try. It will change your mind, if not blow it.

I have the veloster n. It's a super fun car to drive and handles the road like crazy but if your looking for real straight line speed you don't want a veloster period. It is not a stright line fast car at all stock. More money in mods would be needed for stright line speed.
