I own this car and just love it; it is the nicest car I have ever owned. Came from a Kia sole which was cheap and looked like it. So, I have not really noticed road noise since the kia was very noisy. I really like the way it steers, and it is so comfortable. I cannot really say this is a deficit, but the car can be distracting there is so much you can look at on the screen and the console you must have some discipline to keep your eyes on the road and not be playing with all the settings. One other thing that lots of cars with large screens have is the design of the screen it looks like it was just stuck on the dash as an afterthought. I hope to keep it for a long time if I don’t wrap it around a tree looking at the performance data. Thanks for another excellent video I have learned so much about my car from you.
Thank you for the wonderful reply, I will be buying the 2022 next year. I have a Saturn Vue now and it has a CVT transmission. Is very noisy on acceleration. Hope this one in the Venza is quieter
I also own a 2021 venza as well, and so far I love it! It drives so smooth and it gets up and goes if you step on it, and with the noise, I personally don't think it's bad, even when driving with the radio off, it isn't any worse than any other car like a ford, Honda, etc. Already took it on some road trips, and each time the road noise wasn't bad at all! I personally love the noise that the electric motor makes when you put it in reverse, it sound like a space ship and definitely put a confused look on some peoples faces 😂
We have owned an XSE RAV 4 , Now we own a Venza Limited, I would say the RAV4 was no quieter than the Venza , we think they are both good SUV’s in their own right , but we got tired of the fuel tank issue in the RAV4 , we never really knew what economy we had , we knew it was in the mid 40s probably 45 mpg or more ; we’re expecting the same with Venza , great vehicle, but annoying to have to put up with it ; we’ve only had the Venza a short while , our first impressions we think it’s more refined ride quality wise and interior wise has some nice fit and finishes. For the money it’s very good value , we’ve had a number of Lexus RX350 , they are quiet and refined but no where as good on gas consumption unless you pay for the expensive hybrid version, , but we think the Venza is hard to beat , probably $25 k cheaper than the Lexus . We also have the wonderful Avalon hybrid incidentally gets regular 60 mpg summer , cooler weather 50mpg plus , which is quieter because of the double glass used ; if Toyota put the double glass in all their hybrids it would make a difference driving highway . All in all these hybrids are excellent. Which ever one takes your fancy you should enjoy the ride , test drive every one till your satisfied which works for you personally, we test drove all including the highlander hybrid , we think Toyota is doing a great job .
I bought the Venza XLE over the RAV4 because it is a quiet smooth ride comparatively and I’m enjoying the way it drives. My complaints are miner and the same as most video reviews I’ve seen: I wish it had more storage compartment areas in the front cabin, the rear turn signals should be placed higher for safety, and the glossy black touch pad only controls are not convenient for keeping your eyes on the road.
I’ve owned this car for 3 months now..this is a great car, I agree with you that it is a little loud..the remedy for me was to put new Michelin tires on the vehicle..the stock tires were the Bridgestone… I sold them to recoup some of the cost. I thought I was the only one that thought that the start button was in the wrong spot…also the cup holder is in a terrible spot…if you put a cup in the holder..it makes it an inconvenience to get to the gear selector…maybe you can show that one of your videos…there are some other things that bother me but those are the biggest ones…over all still a great car…just wish the engineers would take the time and sit in a car and try to use the things they put in a vehicle..
I think with the cup holders, because this is actually a car designed for Asian market, they don't have the large drinks we have in North america. With a small cup, it didn't hinder the gear shifter column haha
Loved the review and you explained honestly the pros and cons.I am really considering purchasing the Venza in the future. Please do more of these. I like your insights from a mechanical and technical view.
@@mjscorn7943 I believe if you don't opt for the JBL package with the bigger screen, then you get to keep the volume, tuning and climate knobs the LE has.
Yep same here. That soft touch material is going to be comfortable as you wait for the tow truck. People care about how reliable the car is and if it has any obvious disasters that would make owning it an inconvenience. Funny every car they recommend sells terribly and every car they bash sells great. Example of that is the Kia stinger.
@@TheCarCareNut Yes. It was sad when I saw a colleague of mine falling for Kia/Hyundai for “more features for the price”. That’s like going for form over substance.
YT car reviewers alway have to mention the screens too. And show off what amazing drivers they are by speeding or other HTA offences up to and including street racing. AMD is a breath of fresh air as far as I'm concerned.
@@FrankySilverFace Yes! Who wants a 9 minute radio review and a 1 minute engine and transmission review. I love how AMD starts with engine and transmission and hits the nail on the head.
Thank you for such informative videos! I especially appreciate the DYI on how to clean the hybrid battery fan! I own this vehicle. I have to disagree on road noise for highway driving. I owned at 400h Lexus and a 1015 350 ES. The Venza is definitely better than the 400h and I would say the same interior decibels as the 350 ES. My only complaint is the seat comfort. I own the LE model and feel the seats are way less comfortable for me at 6'1". My wife is 5'10" and she feels they are perfect! Can you do an oil change DIY on this vehicle? THANKS
I just brought one of these yesterday. It's a pretty nice ride for successful suburban soccer moms that retired their 200k+ mile Sienna's when the kids started driving themselves. It's a very classy, green grocery getter, kayak hauler, that impresses the tough to please, newly empty nested, menopausal ex-soccer mom... Priceless! (YMMV but only XLE + serious upgrades or limited + ). BTW, your channel and vids are amazing! As a manager of high tech senior technicians in the semiconductor industry, I would hire you in a split second. Nice work!
I’m glad you mentioned road and wind noise. That’s what I experienced on the test drive. That being said, in there press release they said they addressed it with additional sound insulation and an acoustic front windshield.
Car reviewers focus on Performance acceleration 0-60 in3-5 sec over the reliability and comfort, in Japan it is the 4th generation of Harrier, in the past this was badged in the US as Lexus RX. In Japan was always Toyota Harrier, mine is 2016 (3rd Gen) with 20K Miles running smooth like a dream .. Hybrid as well.
A refreshing experience to watch a car review. I tested this specific model when it first came out, and I noticed it is relative noisy on the freeway. I was questioning my gut feelings cause all other journalists reviewers commented it is a quiet car in their reviews. Not any more after see your review. A very informative and honest review. Thanks.
Thank you so much for watching my video. Most journalists drive the car around town and call it a day for the review and usually focus on areas that most Toyota shoppers don’t care about. I figured I’d give it a shot. More reviews coming in the future.
I have been driving venza for about a year doesn’t bother me with little bit of wind noise or tire noise every car gets noisy after few months it definitely doesn’t make you feel like you are in a tractor trailer or a truck
I think most of the noise came from the tire , I own a 2022 XLE , I always change the factory tire to Michelin tire after 30000 miles including my CRV , Forester, Tacoma .
One major issue: the RAV4 Hybrid is rated to tow 1,750 pounds, yet Toyota does not recommend or rate the new Venza for towing. I don't understand that. I'm disappointed about the road noise issue; you would think that for a more upscale version of the RAV4, you'd think they would put a bit more into soundproofing materials.
What a refreshing technical car review, much appreciated. Just got one in Limited trim, so far so good. Coming from a 2011 RX350, the tech upgrades are making driving a world of difference. Would have continued with the RX lineage if Lexus didn’t keep fattening up the exterior dimensions of the RX year after year. Coincidentally, the Venza is exactly 1 inch shorter and narrower per paper specs than the 2011 RX, which to us feels like it’s the spiritual successor to the old RX gen. The amount of effort Toyota went to sound deaden the Limited trim has me convinced it might be the quietest car we’ve owned yet. I mean instead of a hook on the underside of the trunk floorboard to help hold the board flap up when opened, there’s sound deadening material instead to block road noise coming up from the spare wheel compartment. Well done Toyota, no details spared.
I have a 2010 RX, and I completely understand what you mean! And although I love the exterior and interior of the fourth generation RX,. It’s just gotten too long! I believe it’s like 5 inches longer than my third Gen RX! Yikes!
Just got a Venza today and drove 500 miles home. Great on the highway with the radar cruise. I did notice that it produces an odd, light clunking sound from the front portion of the car when coming to a stop. Happens more at low speeds and is directly associated with the use of the brake, either pressing it or coming off of it to accelerate from a start. Wondering if you've run into this before. I've had a Prius before so I'm familiar with all the noises that a hybrid will make; this is different.
@@thejudge8892 Indeed. I brought it into the dealership the following day. They said they couldn't reproduce the noise but did re-torque bolts and brake system and it totally worked; no more odd clunking sound.
I’m getting mine in 2 days. On Friday December 23, 2022. A 2023 Limited in Red. It will be a 329-mile drive. How did you do it, given that it’s within the engine break-in period?
I recently bought the new Venza in XLE trim. I agree with you on the start button but within a day, it was second nature and I haven't thought about it since till I watched it here. No biggie. I HAVE to disagree with the highway road noise. While NO car is silent on the highway, I don't feel the noise factor applies here. It's a very pleasant ride and any road noise is minimal at best. I have heard this many times in other reviews before I purchased and I think it's more that other reviewers are following along with what they hear instead of what they actually experiencing.
I love my Venza however I wish I would have known ahead of time that highway mileage is way lower than City mileage I've never gotten over 35 miles per gallon
DONT FORGET, THIS IS THE HARRIER IN JAPAN AND IS MADE IN JAPAN. IT IS BASED OFF OF PREVIOUS LEXUS MODELS. WHY DID THEY CALL IT A VENZA, "HARRIER" IS SO MUHC BETTER. THANKS FOR YOUR INSIGHT
Hi The Car Care Nut! Can you do a review video of the older Toyota model Venza 2009-2015, How reliable are they? I’m considering buying a used Venza V6. Thanks!
This Hybrid system seems to be in Camry, Siena, Rav4, and now this one too. Crazy enough during the Gasoline Carbon tax world war we exist in, even a Hybrid isn't a good choice with current politics.
I have a new 2022 Venza XLE since last week, I love that car, is not noisy as some said, mine came with the non touch controls and 8 inches screen with knobs. Thank you for the fantastic review The Car Care Nut. The best !
I like new Venza overall but center console leaves a tiny room beyond the shifter. Struggling every time.. The effective main display area is one inch off all around. Case is oversized for nothing?
2021 I bought toyoto venza, they did not have mats in it, I did not see anything like that, you were looking for 60000 dollars, they sell the mop to you with a leopard, it is not such nonsense, if the general manager of toyoto reads this, be ashamed, officially this person will be put in the place of an idiot
these Venza look a bit like my old RX450H but without the great V6 which Toyota should put in as well in the Highlander Hybrid. In these 2 more heavy SUV the V6Hybrid is much better and understressed for more quiet and relaxed driving.
Jesus would drive a Toyota I believe. It's the donkey of cars. Not the best looking or fastest but reliable. He's not coming back on a donkey though folks. He will be riding a White Horse Lamborghini surrounded by legions of angels. No joke
My mom has this car and it's very nice. .Super smooth, comfortable. I'm guessing noise dampening wasn't as big of a priority in this Venza, also it's a hybrid now so maybe some weight savings ?
I have the LE model. Almost 15k miles. No issue and very happy. One design flaw (not really for all) is lack of enough storage inside the car. I'm confident that this car will go 300k easy.
Nice to have your insights to these vehicles. Especially the similarities to other vehicles and platforms. So many positives to these vehicles that it’s nice to hear a few negatives. This sets expectations well May the Lord bless both of you, AMD
I would think it could be very a dangerous thing to have the battery on the back seat. Let's say if one to be in a bad accident. I have my kids back there
Hello sir I have a question, which has no place in this video: does the toyota corolla sedan 1.8 hybrid 2020 have GPF (gasoline particulate filter) as the diesel car has DPF? Please clarify. Thanks.
Hi from the UK! I've subscribed to your very informative channel - I've learnt a lot watching your channel. I've got a 2018 RAV4 hybrid AWD and am very pleased with it. Have you got a link to more info on the 2AR-FXE engine as fitted to the Gen #4 RAV4 please?
I own the first year 2009 Venza with the V6 which is no longer offered on the new generation and I have road tested the new version and I have to agree that wind and road noise is not what I expected. It would need a vast impovement to bring it to the level of my Venza before I would look at it again. Road trips with this Venza would get annoying very quickly.
Just one comment, this toyota Venza, ia really a toyota Harrier in Japan or another asian countries, i have a harrier 2015 and really have more technology than venza 2021. Is amazing
I am considering a Venza. However, I live where we get large snowstorms. Would that be a concern for hybrids? Especially if rear passengers are wet from snow, I don't want it to get into the battery.
@@danieljaskulski7792 yes I did. It's not underpowered to me simply because it has 3 electric motors. As soon as you hit your petal you have full torque so it boots and scoots.
I love my 2021 Venza XLE with about every option except the panoramic roof.I have 26,000 miles on it. I bought it new and took advantage of each of the services under the 25,000 mile free maintenance offered. I love it. My gas mileage has increased as it learned my driving behavior. I very much like my no button touch screen. The car as the car nut says “Makes me smile.”
I live in Wisconsin, on a cold morning do you have to warm up the engine to get heat in this Venza. I know it has heated seats and heated steering wheel but does the gas engine need to be running to heat the passenger compartment?
Can't believe I missed this great video. Thank you for saying you can adjust the back door height. I had no idea. The wind and road noise are lessened if you have the JBL speakers. It's unfortunate you can't take the car offroad but overall I agree that it's a very well made car for those that stick to roads.
Hi, Do you have any observations on the Lithium Ion batteries Toyota uses in a few newer Hybrids vs the more common Nickel Metal Hydride batteries they have used in Hybrids for over 20 years. In other words, can we expect the same lifespan, cold weather performance etc?
Just purchased a 2021 Toyota Corolla hybrid with a lithium ion battery. I live in Northern Canada. Very interested to see how cold weather will affect battery life and gas mileage. Love this channel
On my previous comment about jerking at low speeds I have an all gas RAV4 2019. I know some have been reprogrammed when some complained. I figured maybe now their programming is better.
At 7:06, I wish all Toyotas have that shut and lock feature. Seems obvious to me. It’s the reason why I don’t use the button to shut my trunk. I’m too impatient to wait for it to shut so I can lock it. It’s faster for me to shut it manually and lock it.
Are the Venza & RAV4 Hybrid smoother at lower speeds than RAV4? I have a 2019 RAV4 and it’s sort of jumpy at lower speeds with the CVT. I figure with the hybrid it may be smoother or Toyota programmed it better now.
Hi! Driving wise it would drive very similar. The jerking unfortunately is always going to be there on hybrids as they switch between modes and switch brake between regen and hydraulic. But it is a vast improvement from the older hybrids.
Yes the hybrid will be smoother at slow speeds. It sounds as if you have a non hybrid RAV4 and if so that has an 8 speed automatic which can be a bit jumpy at slower speeds. The Ecvt in the hybrids are very smooth. Take one for a test drive and see if you like it.
Thank you for the nice review. It would be great to have a comparison review between 2022 Venza and a 2022 RAV4 hybrid in which both cars are in the base trims. There are many people who could be thinking of choosing between the two. Which one would be a better choice in terms of reliability, practicality, resale value after a few years, type of the applied hybrid battery (Li or NiMH), engine and etc? Which one would you choose?
I have questions! 1. I know that Venza comes with lithium ion batt. Is 2021 RAV4 hybrid AWL LE has the same lithium ion? If not can that be upgrade to lithium ion instead of nickel metal hydride?..Question # 2. What kind of battery that 2021 Sienna hybrid awd LE has? if it is nickel metal hydride, that can be upgrade to lithium? Question # 3. What is the MAX tow for Venza hybrid AWD? your advise is greatly appreciated... thanks much...
Hi! The RAV4 base model has nickel metal everything else has lithium ion. There’s no possibility of upgrade if you’d call it that. The sienna has nickel metal and I’d have to look into the towing capacity
Hi mr.amd I've rav4 2020 hayride i live in Saudi Arabia. Our weather always very hot. The temperature may reach 120° F in some regions or more. Did If i use 0w16 oil may harm the engine? Thank you for your answer in advance.
Different markets will have different recommendations and possible different programming. Stick with your owners manual recommendation. If it says use 0w16 and don’t list anything else then I would stick with it
@@TheCarCareNut Ok, I will do that. Thank you very much for your answer, and I have been following you for some time. Happy to join your very useful channel.👍
Some new gen race engines use 0W8 or lighter weight oil to reduce parasitic loss and those engine take the heat and punishment better than older tech engines.
How does the size compare to the C-HR? I thought CHR was cute but when I sat in it (i'm tall) and I could not move the seat back enough and/or raise the wheel enough that my knee didn't touch the steering wheel when I stepped on the brake.
Thank you for the great video. I would like to ask whether it is possible to tweak the hybrid system to have some more horsepower in this Venza? Or in general is it possible to tweak these hybrid systems? I think the same setup in Highlander does a tad more 243 PS instead of "just" 219 PS. Maybe this hybrid system would be capable of doing safely even around 260-280 PS with some ECU software optimization. Thanks!
I personally wouldn’t change the programming of the hybrid system. I am sure it’s possible but I wouldn’t. Hybrids are sensible cars with great reliability and fuel economy you modify them that might go out of the window
They’re really similar on every level. Unless you take a measuring tape and start measuring you won’t find a significant difference size wise. The looks are different and I think that’s what Toyota is after. The RAV4 is more square and utilitarian where the Venza have swooping lines and more classic looking
After driving the venza for over a year I can tell you the climate controls SUCK ASS. And the door lock and hatch open piss me off every time. Sometimes it just refuses to lock/unlock or open/close. I wish I bought the Outback
The old Venza I have now is already a little bit noisy in terms of wind noise (much worse compared to a quite 1998 Camry I still have) so I am surprised the new one is worse I mean that they did not resolved the old issue and it seems it is worse.
