3:36 No frunk gives better handling because there's no added weight ahead of the front axle. So no FWD handling characteristics. 6:20 Because of the short front and rear overhangs and no frunk. The ID.4 turning circle is 33.5 ft. vs M3 (MY) 39.8 ft. vs Mach-E 38.1 ft. That's a gargantuan difference of 6.3 ft. and 4.6 ft. of the M3 (MY) and Mach-e, respectively
Nicola, where have you been my entire life?! Hands down one of the most entertaining presenters on the entire internet! You are knowledgeable and have an immensely humorous persona. I could totally see you starring on something like Top Gear! I live in the US but subscribed to this channel because of your brilliant and engaging style...looking forward to more reviews!
Great review which quickly helped me to decide that the ID.4 probably isn't the car for me. I don't understand why some people feel the need to make nasty personal comments about the presenter. Keyboard warriors I suppose! Keep up the good work :-)
@@carbuyer Interesting question! Still undecided but we have now concluded that it won't be a full EV. That leaves us weighing up the pros and cons of mild hybrid vs PHEV vs petrol. Once we solve that conundrum we can then focus on a particular model.............something in the small to medium size range but that still leaves hundreds of possible choices. In some respects it's a nice problem to have but the sheer scale of the available choices is brain addling!
Way too thirsty when they are crossovers that are wide and high. At least when driving longer journeys, in city the consumption of every EV is just fine.
@@garryhopkins the original forecast was ‘chilly but rain will stop by 10am’ and it totally didn’t stop. My knees were very very cold. But they’re super comfy jeans so I just went for it 🤣🤣. Glad you’re enjoying the content, loads more to come from Rich & I x
Did I miss the bit where she mentioned the price?? I mean she said it was top of the range blah blah blah and cheaper models available blah blah blah but I don’t remember a price list being mentioned?
We very rarely give prices in our video reviews as they're subject to change - as are specs. You can find everything you need to know at carbuyer.co.uk.
@@carbuyer How can you offer a car review without at least giving a ball park figure of what the viewer is looking at’s worth? Maybe a ‘Prices from £££, depending on trim level’ might be a welcome addition to future videos?
@@jimhutton4352 because as they’ve mentioned prices can change at any point. So the video will soon be outdated. It’s not that hard for you to go the VW website and look if you’re interested. Plus people who are interested in the car will more than likely have started their research so will know how much it will cost. The prices will probably be in their written reviews on the website because they can update that at any point.
Looks like it depends on the price of the vehicle, as far as I can tell only cars priced under £35k qualify, so maybe only for lower trims of the ID4? It's described on the gov.uk website
That's right - in the UK only cars costing less than £35,000 are eligible for the government plug-in car grant, meaning only a handful of ID.4 models meet the necessary criteria.
I wonder what’s going on with VW quality, I took my wife’s Golf 7.5 R to be serviced, looked at new R and the interior felt cheap on touch points, the climate control sliders are stupid....I was given TRoc as courtesy and it rattled inside, the door touch points were like 1980s hard plastic 😳..not impressed
5:30 Sorry but a 3 pins plug is far from being useless and it may be the only EV on the market that comes without one. The only EV I know ever sold without a 3 pin plug was the first version of Zoé, 10 years ago, before Renault realized it was a huge mistake. When you are visiting friends, or family, or when the AC or DC charge point you planed to use is not available, you *must have* a 3 pins plug. Going on a long trip without one is a big mistake.
As we understand it, none of the Stellantis (Peugeot, Citroen, Vauxhall etc) cars come with a three-pin plug, either. It obviously depends on how you use your car - even overnight a standard domestic plug won't return much charge, so few will see the worth in adding the cable as an option. A quick 20-minute stop at a rapid public charger is far more effective.
Just looked on both websites and on another car comparison site that we won’t mention, and currently the price of the Skoda is actually £500 more expensive than that of the basic ID for. Go figure? Now come on Volkswagen, stick The ID4 on the Motability scheme for a reasonable price please you know you want to do it!
This car has a whole lot to like in my view but I find it so unimaginative on the exterior. What is the overall concusses? Is the exterior design liked or disliked over all?
I think VW holds their value so well because they don't go all crazy with the design. I looked at an EV6 and I though "I am not going to like this look in a year". I think the ID.4 will still look good in 5 years, and beyond. This goes for exterior and interior. Clean and inconspicuous. Ultimately this is why I bought a VW.
I'm confused. ID.4 1st editions have a glass roof, leatherette interior, LED projector headlights, 20" wheels, and a Class I trailer hitch. This looks like a ID.4 base model with a white steering wheel.
Someone that is getting a company car is taking electric cars? Why? They need to install a charging station at home, they need to buy a house or install the charger on their own expense on a rented house. In my country, I know about a company that wanted to give the employees Nissan leaf and they all refused
The tax savings are significant, and often outweigh any personal electricity or wallbox installation costs. And you're forgetting the green benefits - something more and more people are taking an active interest in.
@@carbuyer oh wow, a reply from Carbuyer! Well, Teslas are able to go for longer, that's the number one for me. Secondly, the performance is mesmerizing- absolutely addicting. I also like the interior - looks really clean (and coming from someone with an A Class Sedan, fully spec'ed out, full of unnecessary gimmicks on the dashboard and such) and I think it just works. The UI is Apple-like: super easy to use and to control. And then, Teslas have superchargers which is a big selling point. And they're just cool, aren't they? For a go-in-to-work kind of car, and specially for an EV, I wouldn't really think of something else
I enjoy these reviews but I’m starting to find Nicolas presenting abit annoying at times, please revert to when you first started, informative and straight to the point and very enjoyable to watch, you was brilliant then. Otherwise good review carbuyer. 👍
Love your videos, you are good as you are, just if you reduce acting you'd be amazing, like the interior section on 02:09 seconds, plz be yourself because when you do so, you take us with you in the present moment. Not a critic i love you, i see you part of carbuyer's identity now! with love :)
Outside is dull, inside is like something from Fisher Price toddler toy department, you have little chance of finding a public charger that can make the best of the cars charge rate ability, even the 50kw ones like Ecotricity (when they work) are half the speed of Tesla Superchargers, model 3 has heat pump as standard, its optional on VW/Skoda/Polestar. Heat pump makes getting good range a lot more feasible. Tesla has more tech as standard. You have to be a nuts to buy the VW.
The Tesla Model 3 is a fantastic all-rounder, but it can't match the ID.4 for practicality - especially its hatchback bootlid. That's one area where the VW wins!
Skoda Enyaq is their version of the ID4, technically identical but the styling is much better inside and out. The Skoda interior is much more elegant, it even has proper buttons on the steering wheel and below the touchscreen for common functions instead of that touch sensitive garbage in the ID4. ID4 looks out of proportion and cheap in comparison. The ID4 is better for virtue signalling while the Enyaq has a more conventional look.
@@carbuyer narrative arc is no different any other review, and the script details are all supplied stats instead actually illustrating the points. Plus, the idea that “Skoda is cheaper” is completely misleading, the reality being the 1st edition is the best value but not top of range in UK spec. If you’d done some homework the review may have been useful to folks.
