For years, Yamaha has put resources into developing one of their best selling middleweight bikes in modern times. And in 2021, it was met with a surgical knife as some big aesthetic changes were made. Do those changes translate into a much better bike or is it still the reliable workhorse we know and love? Share your thoughts below!

The front rotors are bigger, the bars are wider and taller, the shock is now adjustable for rebound, full led lighting, and best of all I get to ride mine every day.

I recently purchased a 22, as my second bike only 2 months into riding. My reason for buying new was based on a super inflated used market and a very limited supply in my area, both new and used! 2016-2019’s used were all selling around $7k and you really had no way of knowing what had been done to them for sure. Brand new was under 9k total and I will not have to question previous owners! Thanks for the sliders kit TST industries!

You are fortunate. Here they are at $12k

Full exhaust, flash and suspension upgrades and you got a beast
@TSTindustries
@TSTindustries 2 года назад
Correct but should you do that on the first, second, or third gen model? 🤔😅
@popdatclutch3010
@popdatclutch3010 2 года назад
Second gen, cheaper, lower handle bars for sporty riding and same spring stiffness, but for a lower price
@spartanx169x
@spartanx169x 2 года назад
But you should not have to do that to a brand new bike, particularly the suspension.

Will an after market exhaust (in my case scorpion taper) from 2019 fit on the 2021 model?

I am in a confused state right now, and would appreciate your inputs. I live in SF Bay Area & I will be using the bike for office commute and weekend rides. (1) 2019 MT-07 (used - $7,800 out the road incl. taxes) with 7500 miles on it. Dealer said it is well-maintained (they will be doing inspections this week), comes with windscreen, frame sliders, a new set of tires, and comes in a limited edition blue color which I loved. (2) 2022 MT-07 (new - $10,300 out the road incl. taxes, freight, dealer prep). Not sure if I should spend $3000 (incl. some required accessories) on a new one. Please help.

Sorry for the late reply and hopefully it's not too late. Personally, after owning one for a couple of years and racking up over 10k miles, I would absolutely jump at the used bike deal. The new bike is wonderful but you'd be paying more when you can use that money for better gear, or gas, or track days, or even parts. Both generations, and really all three, are fairly bullet proof and wonderful to ride but the extra $3k IMO, isn't worth it unless you want a brand new bike. Maybe try to get the dealership to $7.5k OTD on that used one and I'd say that's a great option. Some used ones on the internet seem to be going for $6k-$7k without the reassurance that the dealership can look it over.

I personally would have loved if they added inverted forks and a slipper clutch like the R7, maybe I would have considered but, im leaning towards the 09 sp
@TSTindustries
@TSTindustries 2 года назад
MT-07 SP would be nice with those features but then you'd probably be creeping in on the base MT-09 price.
@PelleyJ

@@TSTindustries Fair point, the current features on the MT07 and the price are honestly in my personal Opinion, a crazy good deal for what you get out of it

I cant justify the almost 1000 dollar increase in price either. Looking for one used fory first bike.

I was hoping they will give it at least adjustable forks from Tracer 7... There should be MT07 SP with forks and brakes from R7. But I think they will upgrade MT07 front end in few years - just like they did with MT03.
@TSTindustries
@TSTindustries 2 года назад
AGREED! All it really needs are the upgraded forks and maybe a quickshifter or riding modes. That would seal the deal.

@@TSTindustries tc and riging modes you be nicce but it would increase Costa a lot. It would need ride by rire and probably differen stuff also.

So if I can get a 2019 with super low miles (2k-ish) for $7k vs a 2022 at $10k I should go with the 2019 and not the 2022?
@TSTindustries
@TSTindustries Год назад
I wish I could make that choice for you but I think the best equipped person to make that call is the one that puts the money in your wallet. I believe that you will have equal amount of fun on either bike.

What exhaust is on the 2018?

Haha, this is the most asked question anytime this bike appears in a video. It has Arrow Racing Headers (high mount) with a 2015 R1 OEM canister. You can listen to it here. ru-vid.com5F_vmvklXfs

It's kind of strange to me that at the same time the 2021 mt 09 comes with tons of changes compared to its predecessor. I guess they made the decision to pour all the RnD budget on it based on some factors?
@TSTindustries
@TSTindustries 2 года назад
It seems like they may possibly have another (R)eason to upgrade the MT-09? Rumors are flying everywhere about an R9...

@@TSTindustries Huh... haven't heard that rumour before. I guess it would go head to head with the leaked ktm's 890 based rc?

I know. It doesn't make sense. But where I am second hand ones are rare to find and they have tremendous resale value, where a second hand one is only 2500 dollars less than a new one. One answer to all this... Quickshifter. I think it's worth buying a new one, only if you can afford it comfortably
@TSTindustries
@TSTindustries 2 года назад
A quickshifter costs under $500. But yes, used models are becoming harder and harder to find.

The (2018-2020) MT versions are better in my opinion, in term of design, torque, sound with modified line exhaust...everything

If it has the same motor and suspension its basically the same bike. I have a 2016 and to be honest it handles like crap. the steering is heavy and the bike feels it could low side going through every single turn. As much as the bike is touted as be a good bike, I have been greatly disappointed. I would like to know if they have actually done anything to the suspension since 2014. I heard the 2018 is somewhat better but still overall crap.
@TSTindustries
@TSTindustries 2 года назад
All bikes roll off the showroom floor in an average setup that most likely handles OK for a wide array of people. It is up to the rider to set the bike up for their riding style. First, look at your tires. If they have worn flat spots and/or are under pressure, the bike will steer heavy and unpredictably. If that needs to be addressed then do that first. Then I encourage you to go see someone that sets up suspension and geometry. Without taking the hook for buying all kinds of suspension upgrades, just ask for suspension/geometry setup. It will probably cost you 50-100 bucks but will make this bike soooo much more fun and safe for you to ride. This is a far cheaper solution than buying a new bike that may feel the same for you.
