Nicely done! And thanks for the shout out. I just finished another video with additional comments and mentioned your Evotech radiator guard video as an install guide. Ride safe.
The best thing about driving a Yamaha is having the fuel gauge be the biggest issue!!! I agree it's like 80 miles to half. then 10 mile until the light is on.
I agree with the fuel thing. Full tank then 3,2,1 bars pretty quickly. Tank is supposed to be 14 litres but even when I've filled up on 1 bar flashing, it has never taken more than 10 litres and you can still hear plenty sloshing about. Love the bike in general though, it's such good fun.
I agree with all of your dislikes, the one that you didn't mention was steering lock. That said, the only bike I've ever owned that is better than this was a 1250 GS but it wasn't no way near as much fun. As you say the fuel tank guage on the MT-09 is not good. When the orange light start flashing you have 3.5 litres or @30miles left. Once I test rode the SP and knew I just had to have it.
Ya man! That SP has to be bad ass! If I love the MT09 base this much. The SP has to be a blast! Ride safe. An thank you for watching and the great comments
Simple engineering put the rectifier on the side because complicated engineering would have put the rectifier in the baking hot environment above the transmission where it won't cool and it will fail. Surprised you didn't whine about the size of the instrument display. It's so tiny and with the reversed colors it's hard to read in the sun/dust. It's pathetic. Look at Ducati, BMW, Aprilia, KTM, Triumph..... you could read those displays in full sun from a 747.
I kinda like the unapologetic ugly features about the bike it is all function and that resonates with me, but you want to see ugly look at the 2022 MT09 SP color scheme. Yamaha reversed the silver and black on the tank and to my eye it is awful. I'm glad I got my 2021 model, I think it looks absolutely gorgeous and has been a hoot to ride!
Picked up a '22 on Saturday. Looks way better in person. It's has a presence. Can't go by internet pics. Either way, supply is so limited you get what you can find.
@@braaaaaaaaaaap Glad to hear it looks better in person! Did they fix the fuel gauge so that the first half tank is divided into two bars on the '22 model? I saw a pick of the new XSR900 which appears to have the same TFT with that improvement.
@@e93bausch I know you asked this 7 months ago but I have the 2022 MT09 SP and it’s the same. Only thing they changed was the colour as far as I’m aware
Quadlock has a bracket bit that attaches to pretty much any phone case. Way strong enough to never worry about it coming off. I've tried, it wont come off at all.
About the super glue for the ram mount. I actually almost lost my phone, because one of the rubber pieces fell off. It was a rental bike so I assumed it was glued on but nope. Now I know why lol.
Another great video man. I have exact bike even color. You pointed out everything I thought on mine. I agree on gas gauge, seems like I'm completely full then I restart the bike and it's at a half. Mines never showed 3/4 full ever for some reason. Mine shows full, half and last bar from empty. Keep them videos coming man👍
Thank you so much for the great feed back. Comments like yours keep me focused on making regular content for you to enjoy. I appreciate you and ride safe.
nice video, arguments about horn and no cap... not even because such things at bike visible in showroom, do you like it or not??? then don't buy it. I totally agree with you on other points so anyone who buys a bike for the most part for engine 3 cylinders powerful, fun and just hooligen machine otherwise you buy Honda for well finished motorcycle but boring
the empty space suppose to had an active suspention system for MT09's big brother the MT09 Tracer GT. and sadly i don't know why yamaha didn't even bother to cover up the hole
I agree with all you mention and want to add the rear break pedal quality, the swiss cheese frame, the front indicater location , unmotivated black and silver bolts, terrible original muffler finish. Basically off the showwroom this bike appears like a prototype . Nevertheless i will own one next month and with China parts for about 300$, it will meet the minimum requirements to look barely acceptable.
The rectifier is located where it is for cooling as those fins help cool it. If they put over the engine it will work but service life of rectifier will be shorter. Yahama placed it there to keep it cool. The horn is separate issue as they could have placed in better position than “dangling” on headlights mount so hard is it to face it forward or something.
The fuel gauge on my 15 is the same. It goes from full to nothing out of nowhere. I have also noticed the fuel gauge won't move until after I have rode a while, and then turned the bike off. Next time you turn it back on it will go from full to a half tank.
Great video. I had a brand new 2019 but sold it because I missed my supermoto. Now Ive had a 500 EXC supermoto for a year+ and Im gonna sell it to buy a 22 MT 09 again... xD Love these bikes and the torque. Its the perfect amount of power to have fun everywhere, and its so comfortable!
Thank you. I totally agree and I hope that you are able to get it soon. They are Super fun to ride as you mentioned and I feel are all that one needs enabler cycle. Thanks for watching the channel and ride safe.
This is what I've been debating between...I like Harley Dynas, I like the new R6. I like dirt bikes...I like short ships around the neighborhood and long trips across the state. And this seems like a hybrid between a lot of bikes. A perfect balance
I really dislike quadlocks. I think they’re grossly overrated. I don’t care for the RAM mounts either and that was my go to for years. I removed all phone mounts and keep it in the pocket.
I did that for a long time. But I hate things in my pockets. But the ram for now works the best for me. Thank you for watching and all the great feedback. Means a lot 🙌
The gas gauge is so stupid, idk why they insisted on doing it that way. Once it drops down to half, I swear I have an hour max of riding until it runs out.
I wanted it towards the front for safety. So I could be heard of course. Thank you for watching the channel. I appreciate you taking time to reply with great thoughts and feedback. Ride safe 🙌
The only dislikes I have with mine are the lack of a windshield, the fuel gauge is the dumbest thing ever, it's 2022 my turn signals should shut themselves off.. oh and I had to ride my ninja 400 5 hours to trade in for my MT..
@@yamayari8351 I rode from Des Moines Iowa to Jefferson MO, back in may when it was still like 40 degrees out haha it sucked but I wanted the one with the blue wheels and that was the closest to me..😁
Don’t use the fuel gauge. I use fuel consumption, it’s extremely accurate compared to how much fuel goes in. If it says 3.0 gallons used, go fill up. The gauge is bs, it says you’re empty at 2.3-2.4 gallons which it obviously isn’t. What does annoy me is how weak the wheel and subframe paints/finishes are. I have rock chips on both my front wheel and subframe and I have about 650 miles on my bike. also, the TFT is so easily scratched.
I never checked for chips, I’ll have to look. But YES! I should have mentioned the screen, hints my screen saver. You even look at it and it gets scratched! So annoying! Thanks for the great input. Ride safe.
@@PhrozenPhlanges 3.7 gallons is the tank, it should leave you at a minimum 20 slow miles to find a gas station. I would surmise filling up at 3 gallons is fine.
I actually like #1. #2 is fine but why the heck is the horn on display? It's terrible and I'm going to change it to Denali. Fuel I agree with and I set the trip on every fill up.
That big space in between the engine and frame you were talking about most European models and my 22’ 09sp (Australia) has a charcoal canister in there I deleted mine for emission garbage
@@yamayari8351 not that I noticed but I have heard long term it can cause issues and hard starting, if you over fill the fuel tank or it’s a hot day the tank pressure will push fuel into the canister and cause the bike to run rough and also not start
Hi bro, I'm having just the same setup here in cold and frozen Europe. Right pronunciation "Akrapovič" sounds sweet to my ears...👍 the rectifier should be exposed to fresh air due to cooling. Unfortunately the placement is from technical perspective well chosen. ✌️
Bro I’m sure it’s cold! Here today is 82 and sunny. Yet I’m stuck working 💔 an I have been practicing my pronunciation lol 😂 glad I sound a little better lol true. I guess I never realized how hot it can get. So it makes sense. Thank you for watching the Channel 🙏
Always a possibility. But my bank is 100% secured so I’m not to worried about that. Plus they give out phones for free nowadays:) but….. you have a valid point. Thanks for watching the channel.
Totally agree about the gap it’s ugly. I believe R&G racing makes some covers to cover that stuff up and to cover the holes in the frame up. And the rectifier. I am thankful there’s not a huge charcoal canister in that hole though like California. And the rectifier is placed there for airflow to keep it cool. Ugly but has a purpose.
Good point. I never knew about the California laws. Especially since we’re in Florida we don’t really have to deal with that. Makes sense why the hole is there since the canister was in its place. I never knew that before I posted this video. But still they could’ve made something a little unique for models without the canister. And true the rectifier does get pretty hot. Makes sense. Thank you for watching the channel and the good input.
The gas gauge is retarded but it doesn't bother me. I fuel according to the gas light anyway. Habit from my 2020 HD Iron 1200 with no gas gauge. I like the fact it starts to count your low fueI mileage automatically. I usually reset a trip meter on other bikes. agree with the horn and will be moving it eventually.
Guess ur lucky that u got one haha. I was also lucky to get one, I called the dealer and they said we got one on our way, so I bought it without test driving it lol, one of the best buys. I already miss driving it, but its pretty cold now tho..
what about the gear box sticking out on right side? i am getting my 22 mt09 and when i was sitting on it i hit it twice with my right leg when trying to put foot on the ground. i guess something to get used to? also isnt the screen small when comparing to other naked? how is the visibility on a bright day?
The black hole thing I didn’t even notice on my own bike for the longest time. Then I was sitting at the perfect angle that I just saw a hole through my bike and it almost freaked me out. But I don’t mind it. Also I’ve gone 150 miles on a full tank. And that’s not riding conservatively. I think the gauge isn’t accurate. I think the big portion on the top is 3/4 of the tank and then the split up bars under it are the other 1/4 tank. That’s my biggest problem with it cuz I fill up my tank all the time when I don’t actually need to
😂 the black hole is eye catching once you see it I agree. The Horn was easy. An relocation is definitely a must for me lol ride safe and thank you for watching the Channel.
Lol well apparently I was out the loop. In some states they have to have a charcoal canister for emissions. Apparently that is where it’s located in the areas that need it. So now I’m kind of happy I have that big gap ha ha!
Nice vid man. I am thinking of getting one of this but finding the SP model in Thailand is quiet hard. I like the SP model so much but the standard is also beautiful for me. the 2nd thought is do I really have to paid more for the SP model? hahaha
Yeah, why put the regulator in the air stream?? Why not put it right next to a hot engine? Can't imagine why they'd do that (hint, hint)! Seeing that dinky regulator makes me glad it's out there. I guess you're a function follows form guy 🙃
I’m not sure if your trying to insult me but, it’s just my opinion. I truly think it could have been strategically better placed. Thank you for watching the Channel friend. Ride safe.
I could live with the things you don't like. What I couldn't live with is the plastic brake master cylinder reservoir perched on top of the bars like an afterthought. My Kawasaki's the same. Suzuki use low profile black alloy ones which blend in. I saw a youtube vid from an MT09 owner who took a dislike to the horn. He bent the mounting to make the horn sit edgeways.
Yes I’m not a fan of the master cylinder as well. It looks really bulky. Even on my R3 it was a nice square box Blended very nice with the bars. Not sure why they went this route maybe it was because of the supply chain issues that we are currently experiencing. But I actually like my horn location. On the 2020 an up MT07 it’s basically in the same exact position. So not sure why people do not like where I relocated it. Oh well. Thanks for watching the channel. And I agree with you I could live with those issues but I just don’t like them.
@@yamayari8351 I don't dislike your horn relocation, I meant bending the bracket is a quick and easy alternative for anyone else who dislikes where it is. As for the plastic brake reservoir - Probably more down to cost saving than supply issues. Every bike I've owned had a plastic one except my old 2009 Suzuki Bandit 1250. My 2018 Z1000SX is similar to yours only less conspicuous with the fairing. I camoflage it with a black towelling sock with Ninja embroidered on it. Yamaha should pay more attention to the minor yet annoying details you mention.
Good points my friend I think Yamaha kind of rushed it up with the design of this bike since it was on pandemic time and they had to catch up with European emission for 2021, the most is bothering me is that empty space in engine area and I like the name “black hole” 😂👌💙
Was in the exact same dillema (greek version of word). Went with the MT-09 SP. Because it is an ultra fun bike. Its cheaper with lower running costs, has IMU, radial master cylinder (this is fixable ofcourse in gsxs). Also i believe i can become better rider on the MT (Moto jitsu, california bike school n stuff). Lastly If I dont like it i can just sell it the next day and go on to buy a gsxs. If you go with gsx-s let me know! I believe for naked bikes atm they are the two real world choices
After market infill panels solve half of your dislikes, but yes, Yamaha should have done a bit better. However, they are probably cost cutting measures.
I noticed this weekend I went out riding and got to the fuel res light, and the fuel gauge disappeared and it was counting the miles I was traveling while the light was on. I really like that it was showing the miles past so that I wouldn’t freak out after seeing the fuel light.
that space had to be allocated for the tank to be increased to 16 liters! By the way, the handlebars don't shake when you accelerate because many people complain . At the gas indicator, I noticed that the ECU can be reprogrammed and modified to indicate correctly
Hey, what can I say. I got good taste :) so it’s the opinions that we all can have. These are mine, nil-picky? Yes, but consumers can be. That’s the beauty of being one. So thank you for the compliment. Goes a long way. Ride safe.
