The automotive shift from fossil fuels to battery power has really picked up steam in the last year; and things are also changing rapidly in the motorcyle world. But, as Brian Robinson shows us, there's on brand who has a clear head start on the rest.

This would be something I would consider in place of a car if I could get a sidecar attachment. I am getting ready to retire and I don't want to own a car because of the expense, how little it would get used, and the price of fuel. I only need transportation to do some local trips to shop and simple commutes.

Good catch. I build old cars, and I know a crack in a casing when I see one. That's a crack. And there is oxidation nearby too. I went back and looked at the rest, oxidation is present in many places. Under shock mounts too. No protective coating to prevent that. What would this look like after 5 years if ridden daily, rain or shine? You would have to polish everything once a week.

@@nickb3968 I do 9,360kms per season i ride for 10 months. I replace my oil twice a session which cost me $86CAD for 10w40 motul 7100 oil. It cost me $60 a season for a KN airfilter for my bike and $24 for a KN oil filter. My bike does about 220kms (which i do in a week) before it needs gas which cost me average $24 since gas went up finally NGK spark plugs are $15.41CAD per piece (2009 yamaha fz6r has 4 cylinders). it cost me $1240 per year to ride my motorcycle in canada ontario. I don’t know where you live but that bs about riding how many kilometres makes no sense. Lastly and this is a big one I pay $167 per month in insurance to ride. A EV bike is cheaper since insurance companies where i live consider them slow commute bikes. Look up a forum where a guy explained that bike insurance companies need to catch up when it comes to ev bikes.
@nickb3968
@nickb3968 2 года назад
@@MJT-DA I said mile, not KM, and while you pay more in gas than we do in the US, at 5800 miles a year you're no where near the break even point. You didn't mention insurance, as you are talking bike vs motorcycle...so it's not apples to apples. If you ride your bike 10 months out of the year in Ontario(my sister is Canadian), you're stout given the weather 4 months of the year.
@MJT-DA
@MJT-DA 2 года назад
@@nickb3968 I start a little earlier than other bikers thats why i try to ride 10 months of the year but this year i started late since it wouldn’t stop snowing so you got me there. Also yeah the insurance knows about zero motorcycles so insurance is valid. I’m not sure about where you live but in Ontario, Canada they go by how much people die on that vehicle. There are less EV bikes also because of their regen braking they stop really fast and you wont have the “oh shi” moment when you lock your brakes in the rain (happened to me twice) since you don’t even need to brake on ev bikes. I have to call again but i remember it being cheaper per year to insure a ev bike with more horsepower (Sr/s has 110hp my fz6r 87hp or 69whp) than my ICE motorcycle. I’m like you i’m not really to shell out 20k for a EV bike which is why i think kawasakis hybrid motorcycle concept they released last month might interest you. It has two 24V batteries to power it in the city and when you get above a certain amount it turns to engine mode using the ninja 400 engine. It’s supposed to be waay cheaper than this.

It might be ok to put put to town and back. But a 110 mile range ridden like it's made is horrible. And no motorcycle person wants a bike they have to baby along to milk mileage out of it. Opposite of why we buy them. We buy them because we like to go fast, and it's cheaper on gas, still going fast. It's advertised distance on the web site is 187. So what about their cheaper ones advertised at 82 and 90 miles? Is that actually going to be just 50?
@C4Gixxer

Is it me or is a 150mile range useless on a motorcycle.... I would want around 300 or so like a Standard gas powered one and 120mph top speed is really low. Anyone who wants a sport bike would want a higher top end

@@metallicknight2 I doubt you're doing it on this style of bike for one and there's very few electric motorcycles. There's one coming to market with interchangeable batteries so you can bring more with you Harley is working on one that should be more than 300 mile range with interchangeable batteries. Not many people ride motorcycles to begin with (around 3%) so it's not necessarily the most important vehicle to switch to electric. They also don't contribute to high levels of emissions so this also makes them a non-priority

@mikep.5517 2 года назад
It's a 14kWh battery pack. The kWh is a measure of the amount of energy the pack holds. It could, in theory, deliver 14.4kW (19.3hp) of power for one hour or 82kW (110hp) for just over ten minutes.

@@Iowa599kind of simplified physics also as shown above by Mike P., battery capacity is measured in kWh as potential energy or potential work, which is power multiplied by time, hence the kW times h. Power rating in kW or hp is the amount of energy delivered at that instant (E/t) is dependent mainly on the motor capabilities, which is also force (torque) times angular velocity which itself can be converted from RPM using a constant.
