Here's a look at the 2022 Apeks Exotec Back Inflate Buoyancy Control Device. This BCD has some very unique features that will make it a hit.
www.divers-supply.com/apeks-e...
BioReact articulating waist system for maximum comfort and freedom of movement.
GripTek fabric keeps the BCD is place both on the surface and underwater.
The bladder is constructed from super-tough Armoguard slick skin for increased abrasion resistance, faster drying and have a reduced risk of bacterial growth due to the slick surface.
Anodised aluminium hardware is both strong and lightweight.
G hook chest strap and tank retainer allow for 1 handed simple operation.
3 position height adjustable backplate allows for optimum fit.
Adjustable waist and shoulders.
2 large pockets can be folded up flat when not in use to reduce drag.
Wrapture Harness System - Using patented swivel shoulder buckles and a proprietary, ultra-thin back plate, the Wrapture provides unsurpassed comfort and stability. Wrapture prevents the BC from “riding-up” on the surface.
Out of the water, the Wrapture keeps the cylinder close to your centre of gravity and transfers the weight to your hips.
The result is the ability to stand up straight with a cylinder that is perfectly vertical.
Because of the multiple size settings at the top of the shoulders, as well as either side of the waistband, a custom fit can be achieved through any one of 3 sizes.
SureLock I Mechanical Weight Release System
(Patented) - provides a safe, single-pull release. Inserting weight is as simple as insert and “click”. With SureLock, your weights are secure in the BC. Once engaged, the only way to release the weight is to pull on the handle.
There are 4 dump valves in all, one in each corner.
3 are proprietary flat valves are very streamlined and effective.
The dump valve on the upper left is the rapid exhaust valve found at the top of the Powerline inflator.
The Powerline inflator assembly boasts one of the fastest inflation rates in the industry.
This environmentally sealed unit has integrated clips to keep the LP inflator hose tucked in securely.
A dual bladder retraction system is used to pull in the sides of the bladder during deflation. This keeps unit streamlined and reduces drag.

Hey Bob, I wanted to share something with you- I just purchased a new Exotec and many reviewers have missed what is basically a hidden trim weight pocket. If you look at the rear of the BC, there are two trim pockets hiding on the back-side, at the bottom of the two shoulder dump valves. There is a small opening there with two “zippered” trim pockets on each side. Hard to see/find but they’re there to help with the “back inflate-forward lean”, some divers complain about….hope that helps folks unaware of those two additional trim pocket locations.

@@nickalvarez69 NO! It has known issues. Air gets trapped on one side of the donut and at times, there are issues getting ALL the air out of the bc during a dive. I sold mine here in Cayman.

I just got one of the Exotec BCDs from you guys for use on the Dive team at the local Sheriff's Office I work at. Can't wait to try it out. Thank you guys for your customer service and the awesome videos. Do you have a video on how to properly fit different types of BCDs?

That is awesome... Yes that unit has become one of my new Favs. Fitting can be a little tricky without the person standing there, especially when you're discussing a Vest style BC, which the Exo is not... Regards Bob C Thanks

Bob - good video, thanks. I just got an Exotec to move from a jacket style, but haven’t dove it yet outside a pool. I was having an issue with it pitching me forward on the surface due to poor weight placement and was concerned that using the trim pockets on the waist wouldn’t fully solve the problem. However, in inspecting the BC closer, I found two more trim pockets behind the upper part of the bladder right below each shoulder dump. None of the 4-5 fairly comprehensive Exotec videos on RU-vid mentioned that so I wanted to highlight it here for anyone with a similar trim problem.

I’ve now tested out the Exotech in a pool using upper trim pockets as I discussed above, and they solved the pitching forward problem I mentioned. However, both times I have used the Exotech in the pool, I found that it had a definite tendency to roll me partially to the side. I thought back inflate BCs would keep you basically flat and in good trim position, and so I wasn’t expecting a roll. I did cinch the straps down tightly and that helped some, but did not solve the problem. I wonder if this is related to the movement of the “wrapture” system or if I need to adjust the overall fit of this the Exotech. I’ve used a jacket style BC for a long time, so I suppose this could be normal for a back inflatable BC and I just need to get used to it. Any thoughts?

An update as promised on my Exotec. I’ve sold it. Not happy with it. An overkill for warm water diving where I live. Designed more for dry suit divers and cold water with a ton of lift. I took the bc to one of our sisters islands in Cayman and air got trapped on one side of the air cell recently and I had difficulty getting the air to escape. Had to abort a dive. That was the last straw. I dived it 20 times here and it was just to much “bulk”. On the plus side, it sold in 3 hours. I’m now diving the Zeagle Stiletto, Bob. I’ve also dropped 4lbs in weight. A better bc choice for our warm waters. Thanks for all you do!

Thanks always for the nice videos. Personally, I think the lift capacity of 45lbs and up is an overkill for a single tank. I came across a backplate & wing setup from a brand called Dive1 on my trip to Thailand, configurable for travel or tech. Unfortunately couldn't find it when I got back home. I think it's only sold in Asia
@DiversSupplyYT
@DiversSupplyYT 2 года назад
D, I can't really out right disagreed on the 45 lb number, but here's what we have to keep in mind. BCDs have such a wide range of uses.. recretional in warm water or cold, steel tanks being used and most of all many smaller Public Safety Teams are self funded so their members use their gear for mild to very difficult situations. Yes lift bags are important but sometimes things happen in cases where they aren't available. Send me a note of the configuration BP/W setup I might be able to help you get close. Regards Bob C

The Hydros pro has one bottom dump on the left side only, which is hard to reach because of the soft structure of the air tube. This looks much better. At least for the air dump system 👌

The price seems very high for a recreational BCD. It would probably be a nice introduction to wings if it were cheaper. However, I would probably go for a normal backplate plus wing at that price point instead. XDeep's NX lineup is pretty comfortable, but modular enough to use doubles and cheaper. Though personally I just use a classic tech wing with DIR harness.
@DiversSupplyYT
@DiversSupplyYT 2 года назад
Thanks TwoKnife, I think most of us can agree "too" high $ wise is relative in today's market. The Exotec is a couple steps beyond what I would describe as a Recreational BCD. Same applies to dive computers. What people spend really depends on what they want, not what they need. Regards, Bob C. .

@DiversSupplyYT

Hello Faizanuddin, If these were my only choices. The Black Ice has been out longer so you'll see more comments and reviews on it. The Exo-Tec is fairly new on the market. The Black Ice is adjustable, as is the Exo, But the BI is heavier, side bolsters are thicker and just has a bulkier feel while diving. Nothing wrong with the BI mind you, but I'd be leaning toward the Exo-Tec because of it's innovations in design, adjustability and comfort while diving. Thanks for your question. Bob C

@@DiversSupplyYThey bob. I was wondering if you had any advice to stop the “rolling” feeling I get whilst wearing the bcd , I feel constantly unsteady when I dive with it
@DiversSupplyYT
@DiversSupplyYT 4 месяца назад
@@robbielakey4844 Afternoon Robbie, Many times it's about your body position u/w... When you're in your swimming position, I tend to call it the Fish position. Body is horizonal, head and legs about level, then some folks tend to keep their legs (read knees) almost touching. Then they have their arms tucked up against their body. This makes you very narrow and with let's call it a 35lb tank on one's back, there's a tendency to roll over to left or right. Now In the "Fish Position", I suggest you spread your legs a bit, don't bend your knees and put your hands just out in front of your face with palms down. Now push your elbows out away from your body, kinda like out-riggers. This tends to spread your balance points and keeps you from being pulled to one side or the other. I'll try to get some u/w video of this. Regards Bob C

Hello I am looking for some advice, I am a beginner diver, just recently certified. Is the ScubaPro Hydros Pro BCD (Women's) a good beginner bcd? Hi there Jhersh ! Yes the Hydros Pro is a wonderful BCD for "almost" any level diver. Tons of features and adjustments but, little pricey and some folks find the plate a bit hard and the stickness of the straps and plate to "some" is a big bothersome. If possible, see if you can dive one, then you'll know if it's a good match for you. Regards Bob C

@DiversSupplyYT it would only fill the bc Bladder on one side. The left .I would have to constantly row on my side to balance out the air. Fit really comfortably. I'm planning on going with apex back plate and wing. Wtx. Maybe a hollis back plate and wing. I have an opportunity to try both in a pool.

@DiversSupplyYT
@DiversSupplyYT Год назад
Houston, not dumb at all. Matter of fact, yesterday out on the sales floor I was comparing the ExoTec with the SP Hydros Pro about this very thing. While the Hydros has a Flat Rubberized plate that sits flat across your back. (FYI, I've owned this BC before). The EXO as we've begun calling it, has a small lumbar plate/pad toward the bottom that sits away from the actual plat. Plus at what would be the top back of your shoulders, it has two pads that sit slightly away from the plate. Very cool design and the lumbar pad has three positions for fitment. Good question ! See the video, I believe you can see this at. 2:02 & 2:48 Regards Bob C

I have the Exotec, and I must say that I am not satisfied to date. The reason is that during diving, it keeps turning me either to the right or to the left constantly. I've talked to people who also have it, and they face the same problem. I think the issue lies in the rotating hip belt. If it were fixed in place, this problem wouldn't occur. I'm wondering what can be done. Is there a way to make the belt not rotate? Considering the Apeks Exotec is not cheap, such an issue shouldn't be present, and I believe it might not have been thoroughly thought out.
@DiversSupplyYT
@DiversSupplyYT 7 месяцев назад
Hi Manius, So.... Yes I've heard this comment before. No not cheap, but very well made, and yes there's a fix. There's three locating holes that the Lumbar plate/pad can be mounted in. Not sure where you have yours but that's ok. That lumber pad has a Alum plate inside it, and above the mounting bolt it has a horizonal slot. Here's a "SUGGESTION", take the pad off position the small slotted plate level, mark the ends on the slot through onto the Back-plate. Drill two holes at those two spots. When you run the bolts through the pad plate & BP put a rubber spacer on them between the plates. Snug the bolts up, the pad plate should stabilize but allow just a slight bit of movement if any. Best suggestion I can make as I'm not sure the type of diving you're doing... or sell the Exo and get an AXIOM. Regards Bob C

I've experienced tilt with the Apeks Black Ice BCD when there is some amount of air in it. Even though it's donut shaped, it's still squashed in the middle, so sometimes you have more air in one side than the other. Solutions could be - tilt your body to move air to the other side... or maybe use less weight, so that you need to have less air in your BCD? @@manius_dive
