Excellent review. Very factual with helpful comparisons to other EVs. I ordered one last spring and due to many unforeseen events, I’m still waiting…but it sounds like the wait will be worth it!
I suspect that there are a lot of consumers who would like to get into an electric car but dislike the bubble car / minimalist designs of most pure EV’s. BMW are likely onto a big winner with this, particularly if it also drives like a BMW.
Bravo for your comments on the grill. That was my thought from the beginning. It looks great to me. Although for a full EV, it is kind of strange to have them there at all. Seems BMW needs to come up with a solution for the front end without a grill at all. And YES... we want physical climate controls!
@@natalieharrington6630 I hate not having physical climate control knobs. I actually hate having finger prints on touch screen and will prefer to use the i-drive controller on my i4 M50 whenever it arrives!
They use it for sensors. And I agree the front looks great. People that complain like to complain about everything and peoples reactions are just ignorant knee jerk reactions.
@@EbNorth How much of BMW's brand valuation of $25 billion is due to 80 years of kidneys & why have EVERY other brand followed the trend to big GRILLES? BMW haven't been expanding for 60 years by looking like everyone else, doubled volume this century alone on new X crossovers & Amerikuh's largest exporter of vehicles 8 years running.
Great review Nat. I just test drove this car yesterday and is a beast. Unfortunately, BMW is taking orders now with $1000 down, and the waiting time is 12 months.
This is a excellent video, with tons of factual information presented in a fun way. Subscribed as a result. I too like the grill, and based on comments with others, many who disliked it when it was first unveiled now have become neutral and some now become slightly positive. GREAT car! Super video.
Congrats, great review! Keep the physical climate controls. Smartest strategy is to find some way to make this optional (some folks want them and some don't). Thank You for asking!!
Its funny because almost all reviewers comment on the door handles and the lack of room in the rear... I'm single and don't get my nails done 😅 so I'm good with my M50 order. Can't wait until it comes in March 2023!!
i4 is built like a COMPLIANCE car, too SLOW, too HEAVY and Inefficient. Tesla model 3 LR has more range and Affordable. i4 handles like a Taxicab , while TM3 handels better than BMW M series and takes corners like its on RAILS.
@@markplott4820 I really don't know where you are getting these facts. Tesla interior is cheap. BMW looks better and has a better interior. I don't mind is a little slower. I rather sacrifice a little speed for a better-looking car?
@@edross2826 , you are Projecting . Tesla has a Fine interior for a PERFORMANCE non- Luxury car. with a focus on High Tech intergration , Superior HANDELING and unmatched PERFORMANCE.
Great review. No need for climate control buttons. They are on home screen of the display. I just ordered the M35 version. I don’t need the slightly better 0-60 or range with the 40. Should be delivered in May!
I found this video extremely helpful, and I really appreciated it as we placed our order for this car 6mos ago and are still waiting, so folks should be prepared to wait a considerable amount of time before delivery (our is expected in Dec/Jan now, ugh). But, uh, Natalie's vocal fry is something else.
On paper, the Mustang might be quicker. 3.5 sec vs 3.7 sec. Manufacturer claims. But in real life, BMW is conservative in their ratings. Car and Driver got 3.3 sec w/roll out. Without, the BMW will run a 3.5 sec 0-60 time easily. And in the quarter mile, the BMW slaughters the Mustang with 120 mph speeds. The Mustang gets killed by the BMW in the quarter mile.
just wait until you have to bring it in for SERVICE every month......lol. my 2014 Tesla only needed maintance after 300,000 miles. I sold it in 2022 for a PLAID w/ $25k over market price.
So what? BMW are elektrifying their entire model range while halving ICE production as they introduce 25 neu EV, incl. 2025 dedicated BEV Neue Klasse. What exactly is the benefit of "dedicated" BEV platform? Frunk? Not over 5 door hatchback. BEV take up EXACTLY same space & EPA size classifications as ICE.
Tesla offers 1000 mph DC FAST charging on all its models. this can add 200+ miles in just 10 minutes. and Tesla is the LARGEST American Supercharger network.
Wish you could see the picture of the Baker Tesla Supercharging Station on the the way back from Vegas. Line of Teslas waiting to charge. Right next to it, mostly empty EA station.
The i4 can take 205 kw of DC fast charging as well. And what happens to Tesla's competitiveness when the Supercharger is unlocked to non-Tesla vehicles?
Which DIDN'T EXIST when i8 was introduced & debuted on Motor Trend's list of 10 quickest cars, duh! Again. i8 was no more "compliance" than were 6 figure Ferrari, Porsche, McLaren, Audi, Mercedes, Acura hybrid supercars, Tesla Hertz rental fleet sedans are NO competition, stop making the brand look bad!
You must not know the meaning of compliance. More and more reviewers showing the i4 to be preferred over the Tesla Model 3. And on the freeway in the 100-200kmh sprint, the BMW walks away from the Tesla anyways. A Model 3P tried me at an intersection the other day, he never even came ahead of my bumper 0-80mph. TFL just did a head to head. Only a.09 sec difference in the 0-60mph sprint. At the end of the quarter mile they said the faster i4 would pass the Tesla soon after the quarter mile.
CarGurus - the BMW i4 is nothing but a COMPLIANCE car, like a Prius, Insight, BOLT or LEAF. the Tesla model 3 Performance and Model Y Performance are Better cars with Longer Range , Faster , better Handeling . the Total model 3 & model Y all Variants will outsell the BMW i4. its built like an old fashioned gas car.
While the i4 is almost certainly a compliance vehicle, I still came away pretty impressed after a test drive. I’m going to miss the acceleration and UI, but just about everything else is more enjoyable in the i4. The seats are far more supportive during aggressive maneuvers, the fit and finish is in an entirely different league and the sound isolation is night and day.
BMW didn't issue their 1st earnings warnings in years on "compliance car" & since BEV are having to be legislated into existence globally (like safety, emissions & fuel consumption standards before them) EVERY BEV is a "compliance car", Toyota are biggest EV manufacturer on 2 decades & millions of hybrids.
Tesla may not even survive loss of their monopoly market, took them a decade to produce 1 million BEV, while ICE sold over 80X that in 2017 alone, why do you think BEV are having to be legislated into existence globally? Duh!
@@TheMacAttk i4 actually BEV of ICE that has already successfully sold globally for 1 generation, BMW are elektrifying their entire model range while halving ICE production.
