Bravo to India for resurrecting BSA, but one small correction: at 470 pounds, this is not a Gold Star. It's a Gold Wing.

So a late launch and now we discover that the bike won’t be made in the U.K. Not a great start really. And if he’s actually hinting at £10k, he must be having a laugh. Well done on getting this interview 👍

10k NZ maybe. From what I seen it has some cheap parts like radiator plumbing & thick radiator off a Jawa,Yezdi instead of a thin alloy high flow radiator like on Triumph. Multiple colours on engine & dull black & dull grey make it look plastic. If it 10k in pounds you'd just buy a Triumph.I don't know if you've noticed the engine is quite far back & side on is a large gap.10k😆😂

Impressed by the responses from Anupam and Ashish to your questions, and their positive, 'can-do' approach. They seem to have some of the spirit of the original UK motorcycle industry, and less of the bureaucratic, accountancy dominated approach that seems to dominate a lot of UK industry nowadays. Refreshing! I sat on the Gold Star at the Birmingham Bike Show and thought it a lovely looking machine (I am an Interceptor owner). It looks just as good and sounds wonderful in your video. I wish them well in what they are trying to do, and look forward to seeing how the Goldie turns out.

Had my name down for an early test ride when I saw the bikes at the NEC bike show. Never heard a thing back from them! If this bike is near 10K then count me out. There appears some back peddling from manufacturing in the UK. You will need to be brave to go with BSA over Enfield. Thanks for the vid, some good questions. 👍

I cannot ever imagine this bike being manufactured in the UK. The price would simply be too high. Perhaps they should look at RE's business model- sell cheap and in volume. I suspect that the Goldie will be a slightly different market though and sales volume will never be particularly high (similar to CCM). I do applaud their efforts though and wish them well.

If you do, better do it now. With the EU signing off petrol engines as of 29th June 2022, it’s not long before they learn that bike engines are still petrol powered and screw us over on that too. It’s already the end of air cooled engines, which is why there aren’t many larger capacity ones left. Ducati only has smaller capacity air cooled stuff in their new model lineup. And Moto Guzzi is heading that way soon. Then by 2035 all electric bikes will begin to enter the market in more mainstream markets and brands.

That old inaccurate cliche. LUCAS now in German ownership with many thousands of employees according to Wiki. Lift the Bonnet / Hood on many German cars now and some components are clearly marked LUCAS. Bought my first car as a teenager in 1959. My last two weeks ago. An MG ZT 260 with a Mustang V8 power unit. Many of those cars and bikes in between were mostly with Lucas electrics. Never once let me down. A weak battery on my 1961 Triumph Bike was replaced without question by my then local Lucas outfit. Neglected batteries do not last long irrespective of make. I was not aware of such things back then. These guys have an eye for and a vision of the "retro" future. Good for them with those now Indian owned former British Motorcycle marques. Retro bikes have much appeal. Not as much as a genuine BSA Gold Star I remember making that twitter noise from the silencer on the closed throttle over run. That all those years ago was a familiar sound on London's North Circular Road past the world famous ACE CAFE when 100mph plus was quite legal UK speeds back then. Amazed when I heard that "Twitter" again recently when a genuine original pristine BSA Gold Star pulled up alongside my car at the red lights. The rider looked older than me! I was born in the early 1940s! I wound the nearside window down and gave the lucky rider of that Golden Oldie ( pun intended ) a double thumbs up. The rider duly obliged when the green lights showed. A delight to the old ears and eyes. Search the web for images of a very young David Jason on his Motor Cycle in North London ( now Sir Dave and world famous for driving a bright yellow three wheeled van and being the voice of Danger Mouse ) .. I was in good biker company back then ... Try as they may, they can never make 'em like they did back then. Things have really moved on too far. I have bought and ridden many more sophisticated modern machines including Multi Cylinder machines but good as they are, they are not the same as riding a 1960s Triumph Bonneville or BSA Rocket Gold Star. I still prefer nice alloy drum brakes on Motor Cycles. OK Discs hydraulically actuated are more efficient but they are never the same as say 8" Alloy Drums with twin leading shoes cable activated. Proper old school retardation devices with feedback and feeling. Suits this old dinosaurus.. Fings aint what they used to be as we used to say down in Old London town. Sadly nothing lasts forever.

@@JamesCouch777 They really were that good weren't they. We were too young to appreciate just how good that was at the time. I now shudder to think of the things I did back then. Like riding my best mate's highly modified BSA Rocket Gold Star past The London Rubber Company Factory makers of contraceptives .. on the North Circular not far from Walthamstow Dog Track with the famous facia which I believe now is all that remains of the dog track now under high density housing. Cranked over on the bend with 120 mph on that chronometric speedo showing, no helmet or gloves, t-shirt and plimsoles ( the "trainers"of the day ). Eyes wet streaming from the slipstream wind at that speed. Too young to understand and like many youngsters thought we would live forever. That highly modified BSA RGS was the most impressive machine I ever rode. That includes Vincents and Hondas fours etc. Sometime later I was all set to buy a CB1000 six cylinder machine .. CASH. Then met a fine young woman who later became my best friend and wife so used that money as a deposit on a house ... better decision looking back and to save more money, got a new Mini 1000 as it was far more economical to run than my larger cars. Far better for getting about the Madhouse traffic that was then London. Now worse. Meeting the right partner can influence things and change the mindset of a lifetime. Like many Londoners, took what has since become known as London Flight. If someone offered me a million quid to spend the rest of my days there, I'd decline that offer. Fings aint what they used to be in the City I once loved. The modest mid-terrace house that my father bought for less than three hundred quid just before the start of WWII, now they change ownership for around a million!

I'm a BSA man through and through, and in my early fifties. My dad was a BSA man, so it becomes part of your DNA. I'm expecting that this bike will be under £7K , otherwise it will hit hard times. The quality of the finish has been questioned and there are certainly some criticisms over the large and cumbersome water cooling and exhaust pipe. There's so much i am hoping for this bike, and I can't wait to see one in the flesh. These lads seem to be so " BSA " , that it's like me , just with an Indian accent. I wish them well, and i'm saving my pennies. I'm expecting a clubman and maybe a lightning style / rocket gold star ... Bet they're working on it.

@@JIMWSMITH On the contrary. The RE 650 twins sold in the UK for 6k quid is sold at less than 3k quid in India. 3k quid is the average monthly salary of a 40 year old mid -level IT guy in India with 12-15 years work experience. And you have millions of them in India. So a month's salary equivalent to the price of a motorcycle is not much by any standards. it's not like one has to save up to buy this motorcycle. If it was a Ducati or MV Agusta then may perhaps a year or two of saving up will be required. That's why RE sells about 1300-1500 units of the RE 650 twins every month in India which is close to the total number of 650 twins sold all over the world over a period of two months. I guess if launched in India the BSA Goldie will be priced similarly.

Awesome interview guys. Finally some original new content about the bike. Like the bike or not, these guys are giving it a real go. Whilst I'm not about to sell my Interceptor, I hope they do well. I think it's also good that they're considering luggage at this point, because I think RE kinda dropped the ball on developing suitable luggage for the 650 twins to coincide with their release. I don't even know if they offer much now or whether it suits the style of the bike. It was particularly important for the 650 twins because the upswept dual pipes interfere with most panniers. If pricing really is up near 10,000 GBP I think that, rightly or wrongly, the Indian manufacturing is going to detract from the "premium" feel that the customer expects for this price point. As may the kinda unpolished water cooling equipment. But I suppose RE are a huge bike manufacturer and have some real mass production efficiency that a startup like this just won't have.

I don't like the idea of a maker poncing off the name of a former manufacturer. If the bike is any good it will sell, but don't try to make out it is something associated with a respected brand.

I wish them luck - they're adding a different bike to the market, being a single 650 street bike (not ADV, not super moto, not enduro). The exhaust note is getting a lot of criticism here - necessary to make Euro 5, right? ... sounds like it's easy to change. I'm surprised by how vague they were about distribution (anyone else chuckle when Lucas was mentioned?), and I wonder what's up with not mentioning the 'big bikes' they own? Is it essential these days to have branded accessories for your bike?

Why are us new BSA owners told by Lucas that services are every 3500 miles and not 6000 like the owner of BSA just stated in this video.

I think their hearts are in the right place but I can't help but feel the new Gold Star won't sell all that well. My own opinion is that the huge radiator kills it aesthetically, whether others will agree I couldn't say, but in a segment where looks are paramount I can't help but feel it's the bike's Achilles heel.

There are no motorcyclists on this planet under the age of 60 who would have any memory whatsoever of what a new BSA ever felt like, so they cannot tap into their own recollection.

simple answer is it is no match for RE. RE smoothness, reliability, 5 years extended warrenty, better chasis which can be modified and plus economy of scale of RE can’t be matched. simply they can’t match

I really don't see how they can succeed with this bike at the sort of prices that are speculated. While there are some who will buy one just because it's a BSA and for nostalgic reasons, a 650cc single in 2022 has to have a very small market over time, once those initial machines are sold to those who must have one. I hope I'm wrong, but it's going to also be hard to set up any sort of dealer network and spares back up with just one machine.

10k sounds like a lot but I think this is just the realistic outcome of the insane inflation we have seen recently. A bunch of new cars in the US are selling with 20-30% markups which I think is just a reflection of the MSRPs not keeping pace with the market. I suspect the prices of many new bikes and cars to shoot up in the next 2-3 years.

Well done for putting this out, exactly the sort of update punters have been waiting for, re price they will sell this at £6500 and it will be made in India, the problem they have is the RE Interceptor, because it’s been so popular there are a lot of low mileage bikes with pricey aftermarket parts fitted around the 5k mark, if you do the same to the BSA, it will end up costing you near to £7.5k, mmmmm that’s going to make it a tough sell in the present economic climate.Other BSA models I’d like to see would be a 1000cc V Twin touring bike.

R.E need to redesign that prototype KX Vtwin 838cc & even if they have to put a thin alloy radiator on it similar to Triumphs & increase the cubic capacity to about 900-1000cc. They would have a winner especially in the American market where they've phased out the 883 & 1200 Harley Davidson's.R.E has established themselves for a reliable engine in the new 350 & new 650 twins so a Vtwin would be high demand.

10k quid on a made in India 650 single? 😂😂😂 Even the RE Twins sold for 5k quid in the UK is sold for under 3k quid in India. So is this fellow suggesting that BSA will be making more than 300% profit margins on this bike 🙉

R.E had 2 production lines one for home market & a export & the export is a better product. Also no import tariffs on home built Indian bike.A imported bike like a Triumph, Kawasaki etc is at least twice as much as in UK in India & only a rich man can afford a imported bike with the government tariffs on imports.
