It's on most of the 11th generation civics no matter what trim take it to the dealer they fix it for free I got rid of 3 civics this year for the same reason 😂
@@IsaiahEBelk steering rack issue , part is on Back order no ETA, and I’ve read of people getting a new rack under warranty but problem comes back . Currently waiting on a new rack from dealer , Also talk to Honda corporate via Email and they wouldn’t even give a Enterprise loaner.
The EPS recall has been coming in a lot. Honestly it's not that often one is messed up and does this but considering the amount of cars on the road now there's probably a few
@mikeyrov5230 I'm located in texas unfortunately. Pretty much to find out, other than feeling it in the wheel, is sending a picture of the sticker on top of the rack slightly toward the driver side. We post it in the app and the people in the office do the rest.
@mikeyrov5230 we submit it through an app, and you won't know until the warranty people call back and say it's good or bad. On honda i.n. it'll show the sticker and what it should match IF affected. Can't remember off my head, but it is in a form of something like "MB50081 - 41 - 18" when looking at the sticker, it's the bottom numbers
My 2023 Civic Hatch does the exact same thing, audible click and all, had the whole rack and pinion replaced and it had the exact same issue if not worse.
@@pyrelle314 that still sucks it’s worse , Honda really disappointing people , yeah would be nice , but still not the right thing Hondas doing , got my appointment soon will doc everything
@@1anre I don't know to be completely honest with you it's my first financed vehicle I'm a young guy so I've never really been in a situation where I could take legal action, at the moment the car is back at the dealership getting looked over again and I have all the paperwork for the work being done an acknowledgment of the issue being there.
Recently had this same issue with my 2023 Honda Civic Ex. My rack and pinion had to be replaced & also wheel alignment was done just after one year of having the car.
I had that on my 22 SI. I had a theory this happened because of bumpy roads and the power steering became confused or something. After all, it's an electronic steering system .The wheel felt sticky just left right of center while trying to keep a lane. I parked and slowly turned the wheel all the way to the left and right, shut the car off and restarted it, and it never really seemed to be a problem after that. Make sure the assists are off as well. Granted - I had this happen a few times before I tried to fix it. I really don't like the idea of the shop messing with it especially if it's under warranty. I think the techs get paid half the wage in that case, which means they probably care half as much. Again, I really thought this issue was major, but in the end I really don't think it was. I ultimately traded for a GR86 which currently has less than 5,000 miles, and random misfires in all cylinders at times. Yay...still, both cars are amazing!
It’s an issue , dealer confirmed it’s the rack , part is BO 5 months no loaner car . I understand what ur saying about Techs I don’t even trust them with oil changes . But why did you trade it if your rack was fine ? And damn man no luck with these new gen cars are all.
@@abalogh87 if your talking about the tech pay i believe I read some where that when it’s under warranty work the techs don’t get paid hourly they get paid X amount of time for the job . If Honda says the job takes 4 hours that’s all they get paid , and in reality it could be 6 hours ( just making an example ) therefore they won’t care about the work there doing and or rush the job
@@mikeyrov5230 @mikeyrov5230 I'm glad you got it checked and Im trying to recall whether or not I mentioned the issue during my trade. The issue I was ultimately concerned about, was a buzzing noise near the clutch, when shifting- it was a simple pin that needed to be secured. I had looked at yhe GR86 while my Civic was delayed in Canada because of the whole trucking thing, but then the car shipped and I took it. About a year later I got married, and also, just happened to walk into a dealership, who had a GR86 coming, and was available because the buyer canceled. I thought about backing out, all the way up until the day it was delivered and even sent several texts saying I probably didn't want the car. The marriage comes into play because it allowed me to get the Toyota discount and also no tax. So, since I only paid 30k out the door for the SI, I traded for the GR, which was only about 28 out the door, for the six-speed premium. I would own both if I could.
@@RAY_FILET yes sir I’m glad the agreed it’s the rack but crazy it’s on 5 month BO and I had to start a claim , and ahhh yes lol the SI forms are filled with buzzing noises lol. Well that’s awesome then man ! Glad you got another car you can also enjoy at a good price ! And congrats on the marriage
‘23 Hatch touring here. Same issue. Took it back to dealer and they confirmed it was steering rack. Part is also on BO with no eta. Disappointed as I got a Honda for the reliability and it had this issue and people who have had it replaced say it didn’t help. Might as well go back to American brands.
Sry to hear .. was just told ETA is 5 months , which is insane for a problem like this. I feel your pain Honda has been such a disappointment in reliability. I have called NHTSA and Honda Corporate, I urge you to call as well
@@mikeyrov5230I have also read on forums that the replacement rack or Eps box has solved the issue for others.. so fingers crossed. Both of my buddies civics from last generation had their ac’s replaced within warranty as well…
@@abalogh87 me to but there’s a open investigation by NHTSA for sticky steering apparently. And yeah I’m hoping once it’s swapped it actually fixes the problem
I just had this fixed 2 weeks ago and it definitely fixed the issue. That said, I do worry about the quality of labor and now hear a rubbing noise sometimes so I feel like I got one of the bad recalled steering racks but not positive. What do we trade in for? Wrx? Camry? I was going to get a GR corolla today but honestly interior kills it for me.
same issue with mine. It is a showa steering rack problem. Dealer replaced the rack with a new part. There is an issue with the assembly line on assembly line.
My 24' Integra does the same exact thing. 9,700 miles and I am finally taking it in to Acura since it's getting worse and worse with weather heating up. Filed a claim on NHTSA back in December. Pretty dissapointing considering the handling is a big reason I bought the car.
Sry to hear bro :/ . Mine acted up at 6k miles and was horrible at 11k miles and yes the warmer weather made mine worse we well. Yes I filed to NHSTA as well with a follow up call and got zero info, I’m actually picking up my SI today with a new rack in a hour. after a claim to Honda Corporate bc they originally told me 5 month ETA. My concern is I’ll just have another faulty rack as the rack they rushed to the dealer is a diff part number.
@@mikeyrov5230 I was really trying to just hold out for a recall for that reason alone of possibly getting another faulty one swapped in but the issue has just gotten too sketchy. Hoping you got a good one though this time around and no issues 👍
@@kylesy3541 same thought process here bro , couldn’t wait any longer tho. So far it feels great no issues. Only 5-10k miles will really tell tho IMO. Thanks bro appreciate it best luck when you go in 🙏🏻
@@That1RR has not came back been driving great , but it’s only been 3,500 miles though. Last time with factory rack it went bad round 5k miles and completely shot at 7k miles
I have the same issue have taken my Si to dealer explaining this and they keep sending me back saying it checks out like it should when they connect their computer to the car. But its frustrating that i have to fight the car to drive in a straight line. Did you have any luck when you took it to the dealer?
I believe plugging the car in will show nothing , push them to test drive it with you , ask for Manger , get it on vid and tell them you want it documented they saw the vid of the wheel sticking , Yes dealer confirmed I need a new a new rack , they told me 5 months ETA on the rack so i started a claim with Honda Corporate and magically the rack showed up at the dealer , so far total wait has been 3-4 weeks and I go the tomorrow for the swap. I had to fight dealer and Honda Corporate as Both Denied me a loaner and I’m still driving the car.
Got my Si rack replaced under warranty like 2 weeks ago. They called it the "sticky steering" issue affecting other civics, too. I'd have assumed that Honda would've added a bit more care and precision in honing the steering of their best performance car - The Si, under their Type R. But they just used run off the mill parts. I still struggle with the steering alignment as the steering is never dead centre on a straight road the foreman's reply was that the roads in canada are crowned & I'm like is that an excuse for the shitty steering alingmnet job they've done? It's still to the right a bit after 4 visits to the dealership and they haven't been able to solve it. They told me to contact Honda Canada & I was just pissed.
@@colbycollett1319 I agree , the dealer and Honda Corporate told me 5 month eta on the rack which is insane to me , some how they pushed it through and got one for me , I have a claim to Honda C and was telling them about my rack and no one’s giving me a loaner. When Honda gets there sh*t together I have a feeling it will be a massive recall
No recall as of yet , but dealer replaced under warranty after fighting with Honda Corporate, they tried telling me 5 month wait on a new rack with no loner. Got it done in a month
