I thought it was just my car that had this issue, it felt so uneasy driving on the highway. The dealership is now fixing the issue for me. thanks again :)

That's great, mine seems to have cleared up on it's own. I keep expecting it to come back at any moment.

Makes you want to keep a car forever when there are no problems with it. My civic 2016 is almost to its 100,000 mile mark. Not sure if it’s time to trade or ride till It dies. Steering rack assembly was already fixed at 30,000 miles still is driving fine.

We have 2016 ex also, i like that one better but my mom drives it. I personally like the look of the gen 10 better plus that has leather.

Agree with you 100%. Constantly making corrections to the steering to keep it going straight, which gets extremely annoying after about 10-15 minutes on the highway. 2023 Civic, 5000 miles on the odometer, in TN. I can't imagine going on a long trip. Bump it (steering wheel) to the right, bump it to the left, bump it to the right, ...(about every 5 seconds).

Mine has recently settled down and i haven't done anything to it but i can tell it is still there. I don't know what has changed. I haven't signed into my camera in a while it could be related to that.

(plz don't be to harsh on me I am a French Canadian) Had the same issue on my 2020 civic sedan, started exactly how you described it. I went to the dealer, told them, and that I did not feel safe and lost confidence in the car, to a point that I would not go out on the road unless I really had to. Couple of weeks later I decided to go to a local mechanic to get the front wheels aligned the data showed the car alignment was just fine and the sensors too. Couple of hundreds Km later the steering wheel went from 12 o'clock to 11:45 o'clock, then 11h30 over just 4-5 days. The car was not pulling/drifting left, just the steering wheel starting to shift left while the car still go perfectly straight...2 weeks later....the EPS failed while I was driving down the highway at rush hour time.... Kinda scary! I never felt safe driving this car....I guess, I was unfortunately right. FYI: 45000km in 4 years, that's how often I didn't go out because of that untrustworthy feeling.

This is all great information but the 2020 is a generation 10. The gen 10 has an electronic assisted steering system. The gen 11 is essentially fly by wire and has no steering shaft that connects to the gearbox to steer it. Your gen 10 probably has a problem with the steering assist unit. It is really common for the steering units in those to have faults similar to what you are talking about. It might be worth while to look into changing the steering assist unit. Hopefully that helps.

Thanks for the video! I have the same issue on my 2024 CRV with 7000 miles. I do not have an add on camera or anything else that could be blocking an RF signal.
@SKPcars
@SKPcars 2 месяца назад
The RF signal in this case would be causing the interference with keeping the other camera calibrated. The stock camera would be wired to the system. Currently, i haven't had the issue for a few months and we have done nothing to fix it.

I had a 2017 Honda Civic Si sedan purchased new with 6 miles on it, then at 4k miles the Electronic Power Steering failed, it started with a minor jerk then it progressed getting louder and clunkier to a point where it had a massive play in the steering, I took it in and the Honda service adviser even insinuated I had hit something when I didn't, told him to look for damage, and there was none. They fixed it under warranty by replacing the whole electronic power system, the job took a day, got a loaner vehicle. Job was expensive and costly if it wasn't for the warranty I would've been out over 5k. About a year later with 14k miles the A/C stopped working, the A/C condenser was leaking and damaged the cooling system, again fixed under warranty. Expensive and costly as well. I drove it for another year and traded it in as I didn't want to get caught without warranty and something massive gave out again, like the engine gasket failing, or coolant getting into the engine. The 1.5 Turbo problems these Honda engines are known for. I'm driving a Passport now and so far I had 4 recalls but nothing major.
@SKPcars
@SKPcars 6 месяцев назад
The 2017 civic is a gen 10. I believe those had a shaft driven power assisted electronic steering. This one is a gen 11, which right is currently 2022-2024. These have total electronic steering. The wheel is more of a joy stick that sends a signal to the steering rack. These systems are new for honda. Which is why their steering should be a lot more bulletproof than it seems to be. I have had no other issues with it. The engine is a 2.0L. K20 engine. They are known to be a lot more reliable then any of the turbo engine. The passport is nice too. we have a 2023 trail sport 3.5L

My 2019 Honda civic lx is having this exact problem. Every time I make minor adjustments at highway speeds.. I have to constantly break the steering wheel every 5 seconds as it is always sticking which is giving me problems of going straight.

I have a few other videos on this as well but as of lately, it seems to have stopped. I thought it was related to my aftermarket front camera that sends out internet. I was going to do a video isolating the wires but right now there is no need. Maybe honda sent out an update or something. I am not sure.
@SKPcars

Also the 2019 is a gen 10 and has a different steering system in it.
@larryle9889
@larryle9889 3 месяца назад
Do you think it’s best to take it in to the dealer or hold off on repairs to see if it will go away on its own?
@SKPcars
@SKPcars 3 месяца назад
@larryle9889 I personally don't take anything to the dealer unless i have to. They are normally twice as much as other places. If it is under warranty and they will fix it, maybe i would bring it to them. With it being a gen 10, it is probably the electronic steering assist module. When those go bad on the gen 10 you will get steering issues. We haven't had any issues with our 2016 and i am not 100% sure it is on that one.
@Eszechiel
@Eszechiel 2 месяца назад
At first when driving it, I taught I was getting old, my eye sight was getting bad or something....fighting against the car all the time. I noticed a lot of Civic owners couldn't keep their cars straight...see them constantly adjusting in between lanes. Turns out I am just fine...2 thumbs down for Honda!

I bought 2 2022 civic sports. They have been gone for a month and a half waiting for new rack and pinion. One jas 33000 mile the other has 66000 mile and it is now on it 4th set of tires. Honda told use the tires are not their issue. We never received a recall notice
@SKPcars
@SKPcars 3 месяца назад
Your car might have been outside of the recall but it sounds like you car had the issue they were recalling them for. The tires would wear because the rack was over extending.

I have a 2022 honda civic sport. When I'm driving, the steering wheel Will nudge to ride or left for no Reason. I went to dealership and I said I needed new tires in the alignment.I did all that and it still nudging
@SKPcars
@SKPcars Месяц назад
So the issue we had was more like a hard spot that felt like you had to break through it to track the stearing. It's very small but would cause an over correction. Your issue sounds like there could be something wrong with the steering unit if it is pulling. As long as after the alignment, you didn't manage to curb it, which would throw the alignment back out. Alignment will only stay true if nothing has affected it.

I just bought a new 2024 civic and they didn’t mention anything about this recall! The car manufacturer date is 12/2023. I noticed the other day after the car wash there was a loud metal clanking and grinding noise. Could this be related to the recall. Did Honda correct the steering rack problem for the 2024 models? Any help appreciated!!
@SKPcars
@SKPcars 2 месяца назад
When i went in they said the window of what was wrong was very small and only effect some 2023 and 2024 models. They way they explained the issue was when the wheel is turned all the way to one direction of the other the steering rack could contact the wheel. Based on what you are saying, i think your problem is related to the car wash. If the drive for the car wash caused something underneath to bend or brake. I would look under to see if there is any damage.

I explained this recently on another comment. The year you have is a gen 10 with an electronic assisted steering system. I may have to make a video showing this. On the gen 11, the steering basically fly by wire. There is no steering shaft, like there would be on your car. You are probably having an issue with your electronic steering assist unit. They seem to have put out some that are not working the way they should.

Mine seems to have resolved itself for the moment. It hasn't done it in a little while with me doing nothing to it. If it stays that way great, all i can figure is they sent out some sort of system update.

I am also having the same exact issue with sticky steering on my 22 civic si, not sure what the issue is, i still have to take it to the shop. I have a dashcam but not sure if it interferes with the Honda’s cam. My vehicle is tuned and i flashed back to factory setting, i hope dealership will still take a look at it 🤞
@SKPcars

I think mine is caused by the internet signal the camera puts out but i am not taking any chances. I'm going to put rf sheilding tape on all the wires and see if that fixes it. I just haven't done it because i have about 45 projects going and i work full time. If the dealership gives you any good info let me know.
@Ulocked_Eyes

I know he mentioned the cameras. I would still look into the steering rack assembly. Mine was having problems, it usually would only start doing it while driving over 60 mph for over 20-30 minutes. I remember having trouble keeping the car straight on the highway. It does have LKA. I don’t think I have 2 cameras in mine.
@SKPcars
@SKPcars 4 месяца назад
@kristenmcmillan603 All the new model ones come with multiple cameras. Rear back up camera, and a forward facing camera used for the steering assistance, to give telemetry to where the lanes end. It is located in the top center of the windshield. Also the steering rack itself is part of the recall. The recall has to do with how they programmed the steering rack to be read by the system. It can cause it to over extend the rack and scuff the wheels on the steering components.

That's not good, do you have something in the car putting out a signal? Like, is your phone a hot spot? Or something else with a strong radio frequency?

Just my phone. Taking it for the recall tomorrow at the dealer.@@SKPcars
@SKPcars
@SKPcars 5 месяцев назад
@isaiasperea1017 well if your camera came out of calibration they will blame it on something contacting it. In my case they recalibrated it and the issue came right back. I believe signal interference with the camera is the cause of my issue. If i turn my camera off it goes away for a while. I have my phone in the car but i would only be picking up cell towers. Could still be part of my issue. I plan to wrap up everything with Faraday tape.

@SKPcars
@SKPcars 5 месяцев назад
Interesting, that is good info. I still haven't taken down my camera to insulate it. Too many other projects. I'm curious though do you have active internet broadcasting like a hot spot on your phone? I am still not sure it isn't an rf signal. It could just be defect forward cameras built in by honda. You are the second person who has said this.

I’m pretty sure I have the same camera installed in my 2024 sport bought off AliExpress for $60, I think fit cam just slaps their name on them TBH. Anyway no interference with mine, 4000 miles on the car 3000 miles on the camera. I made sure the wires were tucked way out of the way from anything during the camera install. I also bought an auto/off start eliminator for $26 on Amazon so I don’t have to hit the button all the time. No sticky steering or leaking hatch crossing my fingers. Brought mine in for the recall my rack was not one of the defective ones but in any case apparently the sticky steering is unrelated to the recall.
@SKPcars
@SKPcars 5 месяцев назад
@g-low9812 I don't have a good response on the camera. How it works, I'm not sure it's my running theory i haven't been able to check. How it's made, i don't know that either. Fitcamx is a sponsor. We work out a deal with them and show off their products. I have only heard of 1 stop/start thing it was like $50 and required removing a bunch of stuff on the console. I will have to look for the one you are talking about.
