Yeah, the guy tried to walk it through saying how this lines up with the tail gate at the same level, hoping the camera person would show that shot, but it didn’t happen.
@@newslavecity8311 I make good money. I want a small truck. My Maverick just went into production. Can’t wait. I fit every bell and whistle except for the sunroof.
Although it's not for me personally, this Maverick is really impressive to me. The level of thought and care, as well as just straight value packed into this vehicle is really incredible. Bravo.
Got the call this afternoon. Picking mine up tomorrow evening at 4:30. Not gonna lie..I feel like a child on Christmas Eve. I’m sooooo excited. Purchased this to replace an old Ranger with 270k miles.
Good on Ford for thinking about the truck bed mods. Gonna give this truck some serious thoughts after I see the EPA numbers for the AWD 2.0 Eco-boost model.
@@eunhyuekpark6159 Also defeats one of the major selling points of this truck. If it isn't getting mid-30's combined, it's not going to be able to differentiate itself enough from the Santa Cruz, and the only advantage this has over a regular mid-size pickup is price.
@@Schlabbeflicker It has a lot more advantages than that, you simply aren't paying any attention to those details, even if they are minor they are still important and are such details that give it an advantage.
I'm old dude with an old Ranger - and while could certainly afford a new Ranger or even F-150, do NOT want either -- for my needs, this Maverick would be close enough! The smaller bed size, I could make-do and quite frankly, most of my uses don't use the full 6ft anyway just my opinion : Ford ought to consider us older guys & gals with old Rangers looking to replace with a likewise smaller truck
I want a 2door but I suppose that's something they skipped for this gen, at least until they see how it sells. Even with the 4 door, I like it quite a bit. I owned an F150 and it was so much more than I needed. I move furniture, buy some large items at the store a few times a year, some mountain biking, and the f150 was a pain to park in the city and most shopping around where I live. I ended up trading for a more family friendly Ford SUV. But this is on the shortlist for my next vehicle, it's honestly better than the baby bronco.
Yeah, I've been hanging onto my 2001 Ranger because there haven't been any small truck replacements available. Only once in awhile have I needed the full 6 feet of bed, so seems this "flexbed" could adapt when necessary. I don't like the interior of the XLT though...prefer the black of the XL...but the XL doesn't have cruise control. I wish they offered a less quirky interior for the XLT...not hip on all that blue.
I’m pretty stoked to have a pickup option that is not outrageously expensive. This is so damn practical. The use of wood as an inexpensive mod material is so unintentionally hilarious.
@@techjdu I understand that a lot of companies act like they invented something even if they didn't (looking at YOU Apple, and I'm an iPhone user), but at least Ford got on board (Ha! I'm a poet!) to offer an alternative to a sixty or seventy thousand dollar Raptor (maybe a lot more now). I'm sure this truck goes way up above 20K with any upgrade you want, but man, I wish this had been out 10 years ago or more so I could look for a hopefully good used one now.
I can't believe I just found out about this truck today learning from Wikipedia of all places that it was unveiled on June 8, 2021. This is a great video. Thanks so much to the guys who made it. And thanks to the engineers at Ford who talked the powers that be into producing this truck. For me personally it seems like Ford has resurrected the Model T. Affordable transportation and utility for the masses. I can almost understand why they can't build them fast enough to meet the demand. If they could also duplicate Henry's genius for production improvement and get these vehicles built I'm guessing we might be shocked with how many they will sell. Having grown up in Detroit it certainly helps to restore my faith in the industry which I was beginning to think had lost touch with the common people. 20 grand is still a lot of money to a lot of people who need reliable transportation to hold down their minimum wage jobs but this is certainly a step in the right direction. Make America Great Again. Woops did I say that? I don't want to offend anybody, especially potential customers. Now if we can just get the Lions to the Super Bowl.
Have not given ANY thought to a small pickup in a long time. Well now that Ford has done this I'm already thinking of getting one. Why? Well they solved one of the biggest issues I had with small pickup trucks. That is the bed of the small truck. It's now 4ft wide!!!! Yeahhhh!! Then they gave it that flat surface with the movement of the tailgate cables! Brilliant you guys. Now I will be considering something other than the Bronco now!!!
Hi, I have an XLT, love the truck, but the original customer did not order the truck with a household style plug in the bed and I would like to put one in. Is there any videos on how to do that?
6:08 -"You´ll notice there's hidden storage there" -Me: Yeah, I've seen it in literally every review -"And withing the hidden storage there is more hidden storage" -Me: *visibly surprised*
Already ordered mine. I worked for GM as a truck specialist for 15 years. Thought Fords were Junk until I drove a Ford motorhome through 16 States in 16 days. No mechanical failures whatsoever. I have no doubt this small truck will work out for what I need it to do. Kudos to Ford for being ahead of the Curve on this massive untapped consumer Market
I love how he highlights the cubby hole. Like it's so new and ground breaking. 😆 That's what I miss about my old Tacoma. The storage space for tie down materials.
It would be perfect if it had a trunk in the bed like the cruz and the ridgline. But tis pretty close i'll probably get one if its actually reliable. I wonder if you could mount kayak wracks on 2x4 and haul them that way sense the bed is so tiny?
I own two ram 1500 trucks they are absolutely like new but the 2009 has 330,000mi on it so I will winterize it put it on blocks cover it and buy this Ford Maverick as an everyday driver hauler. LOVE this truck!!!!!!
So, you don't need to add an additional bedliner (hard drop-in or spary-in) with the standard Flexbed? In other words, The Flexbed has all the cladding for the bed interior shown in this video?
Ha. Im saving up for a velocirax bike rack to haul all 5 family members' bikes. I am very much enjoying my 2022 maverick. The bonus is that my whole family enjoys riding in it. I installed the tuxmat floor mats to protect the bottom and have seat covers ordered to protect the top.
I noticed they used construction grade plywood. What about MDF and cabinet grade 4x8 sheets which come 49"x97" it looked like it fit kind of tight hopefully there is enough room for 49"" wide sheets.
I cringed when he said "They (potential customers) are of limited means..." and also "They don't have a disposable income for a high-end bike rack." Sure might be true for some, but I also think a large portion of potential Maverick customers might be considering this vehicle because they like the low price and practicality of the vehicle and are not necessarily "poor." I mean, It's fine if that's what your internal research said but don't say it out loud in front of the camera...
No one uses a quick release skewer anymore with disk brakes. If these guys actually threw a leg over a bike they would know better. Platform hitch carrier or front wheel over the tailgate is a better solution. Stick with building cars.
@@KODATHEDOG Say what? People still ride road bikes too, and they're all still mostly QR's. Not only that, there are tons of fork racks that work with through-axles. Just search "through axle fork mount" on amazon for what you would use to DIY something like this.
I respect the fact they are trying to think of the needs of bicycle riders, on my truck I found it's just easiest to install a tailgate pad and be done with it, doesn't take up any room in the bed, and my backflip bed cover still locks in place. Solves the bike problem and keeps my bed free and clear.
I had the same exact thought. I'm interested in this truck because I live in the city and don't want/need a big truck, not that I can't afford it. And even if your market research told you I can't afford it, don't tell me I can't afford it. Dude was just not a very good person to talk about this truck.
@@ericl6460 Why would I spend time removing a thru axle and risk my front rotor and pads become non aligned when I can use the tail gate or platform carrier. Yes I have old bikes with QR Skewers but my gravel, new road bike and MTB are all disks. Good luck in 10 years finding a bike with calipers
I bought a Maverick and I can't find a place to find all the dimensions of wood that I need for all the bed slots. Even my own manual doesn't have it. Can you provide it?
Don't know if anyone's monitoring... Pulling a 5th wheel Scamp 19'? The gross weight of the Scamp 19 is 3,500 pounds with a pin weight (how much weight sits in the bed of the pickup) of just 400 pounds. The trailer is approximately 2,000 pounds dry. With the lightweight Scamp, the trailer hitch bolts directly to the bed (although its common to add some metal underneath apparently) , unlike large heavy 5th wheels that hitch bolt to the frame of the truck. So bottom line, is anyone doing this? Why couldn't it be done? I did find the Honda Ridgeline has been used to tow the Bigfoot 5th wheel which is heavier than the Scamp. Thanks.
The thing I immediately noticed about the plywood demo is there is nothing to support they plywood in the middle. Which might not be important for think plywood, but what about Sheetrock, paneling, etc? Seems to me they are still missing a feature and need to do more customer research and R&D.
just which model or option package must I order to get what is shown here within the bed ? Is it simply a bed liner or more than one option, or on a package ?
You’re either really strong or that’s a $60 sheet of 3/8” plywood? Bigger bed would also be an innovative solution. Like a $23k Ford Ranger XLT ? 😢 10 Tie Downs, what are you moving a totem pole?
I would have like to see how you can tie down a long ladder in the bed. I have a 20’ extension ladder. The floor tie down at the back looks promising but will it be enough for a 10+ long item to secure it with the tailgate fully closed?
I'm thinking an over the roof ladder rack...homemade or bought, foldaway or removable....I would want to be sure the truck could still fit 4 x 8 sheets while this rig was in place. My hybrid wont get 40mpg while carrying that extra gear, but I bet it will get better than the big truck that I want to keep but don't want to put gas in every week!
@@cowboy7ification no way I’d buy the Hybrid model, they offer a 4cyl ecoboost engine option that’s the same engine as in the Ranger. My Ranger is consistently over 22mpg in local driving.
It's a couple inches longer than the Santa Cruz's 54 inches vs. 52.1 on the Hyundai. A good video if you're looking for capacities and specs is over at TFLnow RU-vid channel - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-21m53LvzrzY.html
I think I read it can support about 500lbs. So a lighter one, probably the only size that would fit anyways, should be fine. Something really big or powerful is probably better off being pulled on a trailer.
Ford's ingenuity with these 2x4 slots also came on my Dodge Dakota back in 1997. The multi-level tailgate thing also came on my 2010 Chevy Colorado. None of this is innovative, but it's nice that they included it.
I find it funny they talk about the slats for the planks. Trucks have had those for decades, like it’s something new. It’s understandable that those that but they probably have never had a truck before
LOL California. Send a letter to your Congress person (Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters, Adam Shiff or any of the other Democrat corruption) and complain about the cost of living in California. Oh wait, that won't do any good because they are big part of the problem.
Plugin and light are in a dumb location, anything that's loose inside the bed can slide into and smash them. It would be much better if they were tucked up under the rail. I do like the little cubby for storing things.
It resembles the Ford explorer sport trac second generation, but with small engine of course. The Maverick has the same bed design but a bit wider but the same concept. It too has compartments in it left and right side of the bed and in the front of the bed. The Maverick only has one. An yes the Ford sport trac does have an outlet too. The Ford Maverick and the Ford sport trac are the same trucks.
Cant wait for Lincoln to make a nicer $40k one ( extra $5k would go a long way). I want a small truck but in my experience and test drive the material and component qualities are bad since its a cheaper Ford. Peoples cloth seats are already ripping, not enough sound insulation, needs a panoramic roof, ventilated seats, electric retractable tonneau, blue cruise, bigger screens, some more soft touch and metal accent materials for people who want a small truck like this but more lux than the lariat, more in line with the Santa Cruz.
There are rumors of plug-in hybrid and pure EV versions coming. Sign me up! If I could get a plug-in hybrid with a 30-40 mile battery range I could then drive to the office on battery, charge it at the office (at no cost) and make it back home and charge at home. And still have the range of a gas engine for road trips. And be able to make Home Depot runs on the weekend. Sounds like the perfect commuter car to me.
Remark number you can get 12 volt adapters that will fit the opening for the 12 accessory hookups that are installed. Remark number 2 yeah my Toyota Tacoma has a cubby on both sides they will not stay shut no matter what the hell I do, tried adding extra tape, tried bending the and goddamn things won't stay shut, and I never drive off road! And it has a 110 volt Outlet on one side. The ironic part is I will sell my 2013 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner that is paid for at $23,500 and I will take delivery of my new Ford Maverick that I ordered in Bozeman Montana at 22450 hey. I thank God for Toyotas resale and for Ford's innovation. I ordered my new Maverick with the hundred 110 volt Outlet on the inside. Didn't have a place to store my extension cord on the Toyota anyway without the compartment coming open. Also noticed the Maverick has much deeper under seat storage then my taco does. Don't get me wrong my PreRunner is a badass truck that gets about 26 miles to the gallon no matter how you drive it. Enough said
This guy was funny. Couldn't get the tailgate adjusted and then dissed the target market with limited means comments. I especially liked when he said notice how the plywood slides right out. Yes right onto the highway when you drive away. Best to just keep that tailgate up please. Outlets are known as 120 v sir not 110 and 400 watts is about 3.3 amps not much plus I'm pretty sure you would have to have the truck running to get 120v ? This stuff works a lot better in an electric truck with their huge batteries but not too well for an ice vehicle.
I don't need any plywood but if I get this truck I'm buying a sheet just to test this out :) I think I would go for the Hybrid personally. I drive the baby Jeep now (Renegade) and I was just looking at the fuel costs here in Canada. If I average the price of gas at $1.28/L it would save me over $1315 in fuel each year based on my driving of 55%hwy 45% city. That's crazy good fuel economy and a much more useful vehicle for my lifestyle. Can't fit plywood in the Renegade :P
