@@Kevin-xv2nh false, if you’re racing in the streets which you shouldn’t then yes it matters but in drag race , If I’m in a automatic I will just press the gas peddle and if my car is faster it will win .
@@shadowk4718 yea dont do that , it’s not that simple . Automatic doesn’t let u get ur revs as high as a manual user would . That 300rpm difference makes a change .
Always been a Dodge fan. But I will always tip my hat to anyone with a muscle car regardless of brand. I will always love seeing Cameros, Mustangs, Vettes, Chargers, Challengers on the roads today, carrying the torch of the days of old muscle and will forever hold these memories like our grandfathers and fathers before us.
GT500’s driver here… Thank you Sam for these races and thank you for telling me to change my Roush for this GT500. I’m not bashing my old Roush which is a beast but this beauty is another thing 🔥🔥🔥 thanks to Dane for racing me again, it’s always a pleasure and more seeing you launching that Hellcat!!! Only Few people are capable to do it, UGLY TRUTH 🔥🔥🔥 Sam, find a Red eye or demon, we don’t race to see who’s the best but for chilling lol Peace everyone and be safe!!!
I love both cars!!! I own a 01 Z06 with a few mods. I'm selling it for a 2014 GT500. Had 2 mustangs and a 1st generation Lightning. Also this is my 3rd vette. I'm fortunate to have owned these vehicles. The big 3 have great cars with incredible performance right out of the show room. Love them all!!!
I've always been a huge mustang fan, and especially the GT500. However I'm not one of those car guys where I hate on anything that isn't a Ford or a mustang. Dodge has done an unbelievable job with the Challenger. Growing up in the 60s would have been unbelievable. To be in the muscle car era growing up would have been a dream come true. That being said I feel that we are equally as lucky living in today's day and age. To have the mustang, challenger, camaro, and Corvettes of today is pretty special. The horsepower that these cars are turning out today is unbelievable. Years down the road there are going to be younger people wishing that they grew up doing this current time. I have a feeling before long we're going to start seeing a reduction in automobiles horsepower and eventually going to Total electric. So in a sense I believe we are living in the last great muscle car era. I'm going to try to sit back and enjoy it for all it's worth.
Well said, I'm partial to Dodge but would take a Camaro or Mustang in a heartbeat. This is the last hurrah for cars like these, big changes are on the horizon, Camaro is being discontinued, Dodge moving away from V8s, we all know electric is coming. In 3 years Ford might be the only v8 being offered along with a slew of other engine choice. One way or the other beasts like the GT500 and Hellcats days are numbered as sad as it is. Cheers
There are fuels coming out that can save the combustion engine. Synthetic fuels are being made that can work in any gas/Diesel engine that have 0 emissions. Hopefully more companies will see this as an alternative to full EV.
@Corrie Elieff redeye owner here too i actually test drove a gt500 (was gonna trade in my redeye for it) It definitely felt faster than my redeye but it was extremely uncomfortable with those recaros and im a fairly big guy 6’3 230lbs so I ended up not getting it but yes its faster stock. Throw some upper and lower pulleys and a tune on the redeye and watch it eat the gt500 and do it in comfort 😂
This was a great race! As a Hellcat owner, I love watching Dane launch his Cat flawlessly! Thanks for showing everyone these cars CAN be launched as well as any performance car on unprepped surface! Much respect to the GT500 though; great performance machine!
See. People need to be like you. Owning a hellcat but respecting the Shelby winning and giving respect to it. I’m a ford guy but I agree with you. That guy is great at his launch of the hellcat. It looked like he jumped ahead but it was the mustang guy that was to late. But of course the Shelby caught up and passed him. Much respect to you sir 🫡
I am a huge fan of the Mustang and I'm happy to see that the GT500 took the W but I'm still very impressed by the Hellcat being able to hold off the Mustang for a little while. I love hellcats and camaros but the Mustang will always be my favorite 💙
I gotta say as a person who loves cars I’ve been to several car shows and seen lots of demons, and been in those cars, but I finally was able to run into a Mustang cobra at a car show. The man took me for a ride that car was extremely fast. All the car had was a upgraded tune. I don’t know how much power the car was producing but I’ve been in challengers with 1000 hp and that mustang felt like it was past 1000 hp range. that 10 speed transmission is on another level .
Doesnt matter if it’s the fastest muscle car or not but the Shelby GT500 will always be a legendary car all around, the type to make you fall in love at first sight 🔥
@@mikehd3904 lmao 💀 nah not in a million years. Rather have a GT500 over a car that gets stolen by low credit score people to do donuts, hits crowds, and stop traffic to cause more traffic, and are overrated.
The C8 makes complete sense when you see these cars lauch from a dig. Much respect Sam for knowing your limitations, and letting the owner launch the GT500. Was a much better race for it. You definitely aren't the only one that has a hard time launching that car though. Thanks again
@@gshock3092 ....and the Tesla is an overpriced matchbox toy. If I wanted a car that sounds like a tea kettle, i'd buy one, but I prefer the rumble of a good old V-8
Could've sworn Ford bought Shelby in 2017 or something so now Shelby guys are Ford. It's still a Shelby. They just moved em in and put Ford stickers on everything.
Having lived & drove through BOTH muscle car era`s, and have owned many, yesterday AND today, much respect to ALL of them, yesterday AND today. I don`t care what badge is in the grill, they ALL have their place in our hearts, and we have lived in the best of times for brute gas horsepower. Where we go from here.... well, that`s what memories and dreams are for.
It took me 2 tries in my fathers 500 lol just gotta know how to drive high hp cars warm the tires for couple secs and feather the throttle not that difficult
@@SamCarLegion that’s facts.. too much power to the wheels to get a solid launch when that down force hits the ground it’s over for your tires 😂😂 spinning out of control before you even launch.. that stall alone will make one lose precious seconds and hard to regain lead
@@SamCarLegion as a Q60 owner I never suffered this because it just took off but when it rained I definitely felt that stall when launching as anyone should if it’s raining
Everyone saying that the Hellcat Redeye would have been a closer race could not be more WRONG! The GT500 had traction issues with 760hp, do you really think a Redeye with 797hp and more torque than the base hellcat would launch any better than the 2 cars in this video? Spinnin' ain't winnin' and all that Redeye would do is spin!
Yes, and dodge goes in higher trims too, but this redeye and gt500 is most similar. And the superstock will pull away from the gt500, they are all beutiful too
Just goes to show that diesplacement DOESN'T matter when it comes to engines...boost is boost. I'm boosting my little 4.6 2v and it's gonna see 700whp when it's done lol gonna surprise some people 🤣
Good races by two great cars. It’s not surprising to see the hellkitty get out front on all the races. The TQ on those things are awesome. The 500 on the other hand, up top that thing is screaming!
That stang is a rocket. Beat out of the hole and still gaps that Redeye. Awesome comparison. I've see so many "professionals" ruin comparisons with shit driving. Fixing a driver issue like these guys did is an A++ move
As a female, strictly novice in (most, not all) things tech talk, I have always been a FoMoCo fan. I was an avid NASCAR WC fan until my hero, Rusty Wallace retired. I own a 2013 F150 360 and a 2006 Merc Grand Marquis. I will never own a rice wagon Idc how much they are touted for longevity, trade-in value, etc. I was so proud of how this GT500 performed against the Hellcat. In fairness, I love and respect the Dodge brand as well. Even though it pains me to acknowledge that the individual parts mfg of both brands are farmed out to other countries, and that our USA plants are almost limited to final assembly, as opposed to years gone by that the complete manufacturing of the complete vehicle from parts, to the final roll-out of the finished product was all USA. I still feel allegiance to the 'Big Three' as being of the great US of A. Where is Paul Harvey when you need him. God Bless America.
It’s impressive how well the Hellcat keeps up considering how heavy it is and the fact that it has a torque converter automatic transmission compared to the GT500’a dual clutch 7 speed.
Well it has better setup for drag racing as far as i know, so keeping up isn't that hard, also a torque converter is pretty good compared to a DCT so not really that big of a deal there.
@@raionshishi8290 they’re notorious for being hard to launch so seeing one take off properly is nice, also seeing how well it still stands against the competition 7 years later (the Hellcat debuted in 2015, as you know) and I like seeing it still being relative to the current competition.
@@raionshishi8290 clearly somebody that never drag raced at all. The DCT is so much superior on both launching and keeping lead than torque converter autos
Watch motortrend or the pros they can actually launch both cars and when they do thw shelby pust a bus on the hellcat and 6 to 7 cars on the redeye this mustang launch was terrible and the redeye launch was aight
Camaro guy here.. The Hellcat had the jump on every single run and all but the first 1 the Mustang came back and gapped the Cat. Impressive! 👍👍Win or lose I'd rather have the Shelby
Fun when you get behind the wheel of one of these peak performance cars and suddenly realize that standard driving skills we all have don't help you much.
I've owned a few Hot-Rods,.......Big block 69 Roadrunner,...big block 70 nova,...70 Corvette with a 396,...none of these cars had the factory engine,........probably 375-500 horsepower. They all had that rumpity-rump cam sound that I love and sounded even better when you nailed it. What is with these new so-called muscle cars that have 300-500 horsepower and have that clackity-clack exhaust sound? To the car designers/engineers at Dodge,......I don't care how fast it is,........you can't make a Hot-Rod out of a four door. Four doors are for grocery stores.
Idk why they testing an old hellcat vs new gt500. Like obvs mustang will win. It's lighter, more power, and newer. Now try the redeye which would be the actual match up
that gt500 is so much faster than theyre launching it, you might as well drop 400hp off of it. 100% of the time, the gt500 should be winning. Sadly, hellcats arent fast. Not for an 800hp car.
Thanks for the video, on a different channel "not naming any names" they had the TRX out running the GT500 I just hope they're watching your video. I knew then that wasn't right, the TRX is a bad ass truck but no way can it stand beside the 500.
What a great niche this channel has carved out. There are a lot of great channels that offer a detailed review of cars and I enjoy them ie Matt Maran but if you are not in the market to purchase and just want to enjoy seeing how various cars stack up against one another this is great. I enjoy more and more, real world conditions, everyday drivers etc, its excellent !!
Not sure where you live but that definitely doesn't happen in South Florida. Lots of guys running real tires on drag setups here. A 400hp Anything wouldn't even be seen from space😂
@@fmly4life769 added from the factory. Are the 500's mods added at the factory too? I'm not a Challenger fan boy. I just think the Redeye or Demon are more in the GT500 class or category than the regular Hellcat. I'd say the GT350 would take the Hellcat. Probably the proper competitor.
@@venom999333 a gt350 is not in a hellcats class straight lime supercharged versus a track car u don't know nothing about cars.. and a demon is meant for drag strip with a transbrake.. put it against cobrajet and watch what happens. I do believe a redeye is a better comparison but it'd still would lose.
@@SamCarLegion First of all, I'm just commenting. I'm not throwing shades. I'm just saying a Redeye would be closer. Seems like you read it as me telling you that you should use a Redeye instead?
Seems the Gt500 keeps spinning the tires in start and up to 3rd gear. I'm so impressed. I knew the Gt500 is the fastest beast out here cause it's a Ford. I do like Dodge for keeping the retro but need to change it up now. It's getting old like the dinosaurs. Gt500 has broken the Vipers records on a few road courses.
Yeah it’s also the weight and horsepower difference the mustang is pretty lighter than the dodge challenger hellcat. If it was the hellcat redeye then it would be more fair.
-Intros are taking way too long to get into the action now -2 separate camera angles for the launches are annoying -Not enough runs like the older videos -Finish line slow mo is terrible +Bring back the old intro music +Use better camera angles +More runs with different modes +Get a better camera/microphone that can handle slow mo a lot smoother That being said I am a fan of the channel, I've just noticed some changes lately that have made the videos worse.
