great content Kevin. The way you explain each step in your build is well versed and helpful but also enjoyable to see someone really knowledgeable explaining things 😂. I've put my order in for my gr 86 the other so i'm excited when in comes but it will probably be close to spring time when i can finally take it home 😭
bro I'm so sorry for that rear quarter panel... I know that pain. thank you for the content and keep doing what you're doing. can't wait to get one of these.
Fantastic videos, straight to the point and very well executed, this mod is not for me as I hate drone, but it’s great to see the effects of each step you take, thank you, I look forward to your content
Don't forget that the header is uncatted, most people won't remove that. Also not the quietest exhaust (I have an Invidia N2 and this is louder). I'm sure it can be tamed with a Q400 or something.
Love your videos man. The quality and thoroughness in them is honestly very much unmatched. Been watching your stuff for a while, I'm sorry that I'm just now subbing 😅 Would love to hear what she sounds like with a UEL and a HFC with everything else what you have there. Doesn't sound too bad honestly
@@RW-zh7kl That's simply not true. I've owned an STi for 15 years & IAG Performance is my local shop, so I have a pretty good idea of what I'm talking about. Unequal length headers are only good for the sound. They're way less efficient than an equal length header.
it’s awesome to see someone wrenching on the new 86, it’s cool we (fellow 86 owners) get to see the possibilities and potential with this car :) thanks kevin!
@@yobs. I'm considering adding the infamous aero kit (the one B Levan has) with all the fins included. I think for $1200 (incl. $400 defuser) it's a good deal?? I own a sapphire blue with a black GR duckbill. (I also want those fog lights exclusive to the BRZ but they're $600+)
They already are ! Look up Greddy Gr86 Tsukuba Circuit. That car is just tuned with full bolt ons, running a sub 1 minute lap time. That’s one hell of an accomplishment!
Damn dude, bummer about the rear quarter panel. With 50 miles on my car I hit a small coyote and it got stuck in my grill…alive. I was in complete shock when I saw it, definitely the worst feeling with a new car. Keep up the great content, and glad that the damage wasn't any worse for you!
Love the GR86 content! No chance of connecting the overpipe and frontpipe together with vband before connecting to the header? Curious if you can still wiggle the overpipe in place over the subframe with the frontpipe attached.
Great vid, I think the exhaust needs a note tune :/ But otherwise love seeing what you can do with the car. And damn that sucks about the quarter panel
Hey Kevin! Loving the videos and taking delivery or a track bRed GR86 base soon. This will be my first car and so the tool market is very daunting, do you have any recommendations on what to get? Like what kind of torque wrenches and such? Appreciate you!
Appreciate your support!! Hope you get it soon! Honestly, I use cheap torque wrenches I got from harbor freight because I can't afford expensive tools.
Thanks for your information. How you avoid From check-engine light to turn ON ? You disable the catalytic converter from the header. I mean between the two sensors there is no more catalytic converter
Great video! I've been waiting to see what bolt ons and a tune will do. Less gains than I expected but nice torque increase. Please include a test drive afterwards so we can get your thoughts on how it feels. Especially as most of the gain is in the midrange. How big of a difference vs a completely stock gr86? How big of a difference from a stage 1 turbo gt86/brz?
The tuning made the car much more fun to drive. You can definitely feel the increase in torque through that mid range. I honestly haven't driven a turbo FRS/BRZ so I can't comment on that. Maybe we need to turbo this one.
Good gains, not liking the increase in noise though. I guess going with the quietest exhaust might be the better option if we plan on bolting ELH/ULH. Also wondering, can the ECUTEK get rid of cold start rev?
@@jordan122095 lol we are in the beginning phases of tuning these cars. I don’t think it’s a waste at all. With exhaust mods it is mostly about getting a sound you like. Also high flow exhaust comes more into play, hp gains wise, with boost. The cost per hp may seem high on an entry level car but ppl pay much more than this on average.
Wish you would’ve done a drive review to see the real life effects as well, not just on paper. But nice video either way and sorry to hear about the damage :(
Hate to hear about the damage man. Next mod dash camera? Impressed with the gains but like others have said it seems to have come with the sacrifice of exhaust sound.
I practically beg people to get dash cams to avoid delayed insurance claims (or even harrasment), but people don't listen. It's such a ease of mind improvement. One dude keeps telling me he wants to do his research and get a good one (for his 52k Stinger GT), no matter how much I tell him they all use the same crappy sensor. 100-200USD is the sweet spot, especially on discounts. My dual cam Ventrue was 200 and got it on sale for 120. An ideal one would probably tap into the backup camera through the stereo but new cars can get so complicated nowadays (You might need to bypass the reverse gear to get it working). Luckily the BRZ/86 has a short cabin for the interior cam.
Hey man! That sucks abt the damage! Also wondering when the olm side markers will be in stock?? Also my Hks catback is getting delivered today😼 maybe I’ll see ya sometime! I’m from MN
Pretty good! I bet once the full catted version of that header is released, it'll only help net a few wtq increase and less than it being catless. But shouldn't folks running flex Fuel or e85 upgrade their fuel line at the minimum and have a sensor for long term usage, anything short of that feels unsafe for a car not built to run it....
I feel you man. Months ago I was driving on the highway and I hit something that didn't feel as bad. Once I check underneath the car the whole catalytic converter was crushed. This was with 800 miles btw
I think the UEL will sound much better but I doubt there are any gains be had. I’ve heard the headers on the new car are much better than the last gen and this video proves that sort of. Might just get a little more mid range with the UEL.
Here in Oz my 86 has been tuned for e85 for years by tunehouse nsw. It also has one more bolt on accessory...a sprintex supercharger. It's a weapon. My 86 now does not like to run on 91 octane ( A bit of detonation occurs under load) however runs well on e10 (95 octane ) if e85 is a bit hard to find.
Man they really need to throw a turbo on these especially for the price. My 2019 civic si is putting down 264whp and 320lb tq and the stock clutch is my limiting factor. Just bought a veloster turbo a couple days ago to add to the fleet lol exhaust and intake come in today and my fresh wheels Friday then it’s off to the dyno for some tuning and she should be around 250-260 easy. I’d imagine a gr86 being a beast with a factory turbo! I’d go out and buy it today if it came with a factory turbo.
People fail to see the true purpose of this car a lot of the time. It's not meant to make a ton of power or be fast in a straight line. It is purely a drivers car. The handling of this car is it's strongest characteristic and that's what makes it so fun to drive. It also makes for a fantastic track car even though people think it's "underpowered". If they threw a turbo on here it would only drive the price up and they'd be competing with the Supra which would not make sense.
A tuner in Shanghai (加速度SpeedUP) is able to make a 231.6HP (metric HP assumed) on FA24 at 15 Celsius with Greedy stuff up front until mid-pipe and Fgk mid+down-pipe which is a similar setup. I think it is entirely possible to make a 240HP (metric) at lower temp. FA24 is proven to be more of a winter warrior.
