Fantastic video. I had the chance to own 18 Grand America, new for 3 years. Now I own a new Goldwing DCT Tour. I will tell you both, all of my experiences with both and riding for 35 years. Hands down to the Goldwing. None of them is perfect, but the wing is the best bike I have ever owned....period. Superbly comfortable even for a tall rider, fast enough for me in Soprt or Tour Modes, extreamly reliable. Never saw the dealer till now even for a tiny problem. Parts are cheaper, more available, easy to work on and the bottom line is...the wing can go to the moon and back and you will still smile. The DCT is magical, smart transmission.

Flat six engine on a bike...you gotta love that. Some ppl complain about the top speed being only 112mph but I wouldn't care. No need to go any faster on a motorbike.

Goldwing for me even though I prefer the look the handling and the ground clearance of the bmw. Honda reliability is hard to beat. If I'm spending that much on a bike I don't want to worry about things breaking and having to fork out more.

Ahoy.. I have the Wing and find it very comfortable, the Beemer not so. The DCT is great, the screen is amazing, the reverse and creep are brilliant. For me the Wing is perfect, but it is subjective.. I look forward to part 2 and your final verdicts. Stay safe...

Excellent video. Good to see the Beemer is so safe you don't need to de-ice the mirrors! 🙂 I have the exact same Goldwing and agree with most of what you have concluded. I haven't ridden the BMW but the more planted feeling as far as handing will be the low down engine weight of the 1800 boxer, which I actually prefer than a more top heavy balance. I think you will find the sport mode if used a bit more turns the GW into a different bike as far as response goes. Will look forward to episode 2!

I’ve owned the Goldwing and have the K1600. I prefer the the K1600 because of the performance, although I prefer the GTL. Thing is, when I bought a GS and rode them back to back, I decided I needed to keep the K1600. After I put a stage 2 kit and full exhaust system, I found I never toured on the K1600 any more because the lighter GS was just as fast, much more comfy with less bend in the leg, and the wind protection was better as it wasn’t pushing my back forward and I wasn’t looking through the screen. Plus, I was able to explore any road while touring and a water crossing doesn’t force me to turn around.

Great video guys and very brave going out at 0 degrees. I really like the reviews when you are both out together as the banter between you is great the alternative views when changing bikes also very interesting. I have tried both I think the DCT takes some getting used too and if you're over 6ft 3in then the wind blast from the smaller screen on the bagger is pretty bad. However I'm told this can be sorted by replacing it with the full touring screen. Keep up the good work andvlok forward to the next instalments.

I am lucky enough to have a K1600 GTL; slightly older version pre LCD & reverse gear, it's a heavy bike however anything over 5 miles an hour and the weight disappears. Take the top box off & the side bags if you want, best thing in my opinion is that inline 6 engine sounds like an F1 car if you open it up, that never gets old. Merry Christmas gents😃

I think the Goldwing and the k1600 Grand America would of been a closer comparison. At least if you were looking for a backrest for the passenger, you'd have a better comparison. Goldwing would still be more comfortable. I have the k1600b strictly for the performance aspect, I did purchase an aftermarket backrest. Enjoyable video, thanks for sharing!

Great summary and very fair. Just bought an RT1250. The GW or K16 are the bikes you want to get there with, but the R1250RT will be the one you want when you do get there!

I know you guys will have these bikes for a good few weeks. It would be interesting and helpful to know what the built quality of them are like and which is better in your opinions. I know that you get a lot more wing accessories compared to the bagger. Also, especially in the states, the wing seems to sell much better becuase of proven reliability and ease of DIY maintenance. I know that lots of k16 owners complained that the K16 had a left pull....how's this new model running? straight? Thanks again Chopsy

I have to agree with Greg, being a pillion is terrifying 🏍😱!!! Great “real world” test in the cold 👍. I’ll ride on dry pavement down to about -4C, but it’s with heated grips, hand guards, electric vest, and so many layers of clothes I can’t clap my hands 😆.

Thank you guys for these great videos and content of these big boys. I feel if either bike had active cruise and lane departure warning, it would swing a prospective buyer towards that tech. I can't believe either manufacturer never added that feature on a Touring motorcycle, yet you find it on bikes like the H2 and Ducatis. Safe riding from South Africa 🇿🇦.

BMW added active cruise/radar on the 1250 RT. But decided against it on the K1600 as they would need to redesign the front/headlight to fit the radar. I agree it's a bit weird seeing better safety equipment being available/standard on the cheaper 1250 RT than the topmodel K1600.

13:10 always fancied one of these for touring but the weight and sheer size puts me off. If the BMW rt was a bit lower it would be no competition maybe it’s time fora test ride on both and a check of my bank balance. Great review and informative as usual

I guess at the end of the day these are the ultimate touring bikes & the Goldwing is purpose built & does what they're made to do a bit better all-round. The BMW is a bit more dynamic maybe but somewhat comprised as a result. When it comes to purely the design brief, it looks like Honda have nailed it.

For me the DCT is a game changer especially for a bike like that, and for that reason alone the 6th gen Goldwing is untouchable. Where I live most people drive automatics, there’s no filtering allowed so an automatic bike would make a lot of sense. My car and current bike are manual but I gotta admit if I’m just commuting to work and back, in traffic a DCT would make a helluva sense. You still get the bike experience but you don’t have to use brain power to shift, you can “shift” that portion of your brain processing for added safety on the road

A bike can feel more agile by having its CoG higher because it has a tendency to want to tip itself over more readily, especially noticeable once you start gaining speed. Lower CoG would keep the bike stable but may feel harder to lean over once moving. Bit like how a bus keeps its mass down low. Enjoyed the vid, Chopsy 👍🏻

Love my K1600gt done just under 7k this year on 3 euro trips, -20c last March over spanish pyrenees keis heated clothing neck to toes heaven, 34mpg @ 110mph cruise control on, and 68mpg at 50mph 55mph through Switzerland chilling out . Engine pulls at 9mph in 2nd gear at 800rpm no chugging on greasy wet banked hairpin bends on stelvio pass. Awesome bike, and when revving out sounds identical to M3 E46.

I love K1600B because not too big,not small,just size for me. Easy to control at small shop like convini-store. Both Goldwing and K1600 have plenty of torque and speed no Complaints.

Came from an MT-10 to the Goldwing bagger and love it. its quick enough and handles far better than it should but its the all day comfort im most enjoying. Off to the Ring for a few laps in June, should be interesting.

I have a BMW R1200RT as well as a FireBlade because the Beemer's weather protection means I can ride all year round with the boxer engine keeping feet from going numb. Did you find the same with these 2 bikes or just the Goldwing?

I'll be ordering a new GW next month for a few reasons, It's a Honda so I won't need to bear the arrogance of a BMW dealer, there are some great deals to be had on new models and of course the DCT which I've had on 2 Africa Twins in the last 3 years and it's just brilliant.

I had the BMW and now I have the new 1250 RT. I just wanted something that was lighter and handled better in the curves.
