I didn't take the lid completely apart like you did, but once I noticed that mine was separating, I used VHB double sided tape to reseal the sides. That was several months ago and it's still holding. I knew the dealership would be of little or no help.
Really appreciate you doing a video on this. I'm probably going to have to do it to mine as my dealer has also been useless in getting the trunk separation resolved. I might try applying some heat when prying the cover off, that might help avoid the cracking you experienced.
Thank you! It was definitely a frustrating dealership experience, their communication was lacking. I’m more upset with the poor design my Hyundai. I love my car and most everything about it, but the trunk is not my favorite part, it’s a stupid issue to have.
It sucks it came to this for you, but at least you know exactly what you did and can further troubleshoot if necessary. The only thing I could think might help, would be some padded C-clamps on the outer edges to VERY gently squeeze the lid against the actual trunk, maybe overnight to let the adhesive "set" to some degree? Either way, hope this finally gets it for you 👍
Actually had an elantra N at the dealer I work at that I had replaced as at the factory they had stripped 2 of the nut-serts, and in the reinstall I had added and extra strip of double sided 3M tape along where they would apply it in the factory and after all that I feel bad for if anyone ever has to remove that shell as I don't believe it'll ever come off now
Once again another A+ tutorial for another common problem. Too bad they only "fix" it back to manufacturer spec just redo the tape properly how it should be or they'll just have to keep replacing it every month under warranty 🤦♂️ Hyundai should do a recall or something on the shitty tape job
I’m sure it could, you would just need to be careful, so you don’t hurt the paint. Since mine has been off a few time by the dealership, it really wasn’t that bad.

I was trying different things since this was my first time removing the trunk cover and there were no guides on how to do it. Luckily, it was a very small crack.
