If I was in the market, this would likely be my number one choice, it's such compelling value. And you're right, the looks seem to work in this N version.
I bought my Elantra N almost 2 monthes ago and I love it! Infact I debadged it and added an i30 badge to it, cleans up the rear quite a bit too, not to mention the upcoming "what's an i30?" Also with its concept car looks, it deserves a letter and numeral name IMO!
Im a big fella and i sat in the hatchback and the seats have a support rail inside the bottom side bolsters where your thighs rest. Absolutely painfull everytime i threw it into corners. This was the base model n . Not sure if the premo hatch seats are the same. I then sat in the sedan. Talk about night and day! No intrusive metal side bolster. Absolutely beautiful to sit in and drove better i.m.o. autos in both cars. Looks like the sedan for us bigger guys.
Love it how the title says is it better than WRX, Octavia RS and Golf GTI but doesn’t compare them at all throughout the video, they are merely mentioned.
@K D They are definitely different. 86 is traditional manual rear RWD sports car that needs after market parts to shine, whilst the elantra is modern with no mods required as everything is customisable from factory. Also practical. NZ dealers are already marking up $10,000 for the 86. Not worth it. $52k drive away for a car engineered by BMW M division Albert Biermann. His retiring soon. Dropping a deposit tomorrow.
@@godkingmaximus2710 more like poor Albert is being pushed out due to the new CEO’s reshuffling. Pretty dumb idea considering how much he has done for Hyundai in the last few years.
Love the Style so far ahead of the new WRX its crazy. Disappointing about the adaptive cruise control tho. Wish they made a wagon / estate version of this with the angular design would like great. Hope they put adaptive cruise control in the next one. It also needs Multi Port injection to keep the upper engine clean.
and that Civic isn't even the SI, it's just slightly more powerful than the old ones with 131 kW. That being said 49k isn't the driveaway price for this car, it's closer to $53-54k depending on your choice of colour and whether you get the sunroof.
@@mitchjames9350 nope... limited edition can't be at the dealership it makes no sense... a little edition is bought to order... m5cs, i30N project C... made to order no demo's.... the sedan is the fastest N car by far
@@mitchjames9350 nope it's not the fastback is 17kg heavier than the hatch... I know as I have one and have asked the N technician and the N festivals. They have timed it on the same day with the same driver.... the Sedan is the quickest and second lightest... bigger in size but lighter materials... part of the new platform the car is built on. Sedan 0-100km/h 5.3s in the DCT... 5.5s in the manual...
Top review mate, it's 'different' to say the least. Shame Hyundai don't offer the no cost option for a DCT in the hatch, their pricing needs revision. Even get rear air vents with a manual handbrake! Thought that was not possible? I hate to count how many small birds your grille is going to swallow 😅
Got mine with a 6-speed and I couldn't be happier. Too bad you guys don't get the racing seats in Australia! Was jealous you got the cooled seats at first but now I’m stoked. Might be one of my favorite parts of the car
I live in Florida and am just fine without the cooled seats. Still have heated. Absolutely worth it to get the racing seats. They go so much lower than the others. They’re are so comfortable and the glowing “N” on them looks so cool at night.
Worst joke ever... BMW have an M car for majority of their variants... now Hyundai tries to do the same it's a crime? If u are going to copy... copy the best!
I just bought a hatch, I tried my absolute best to like the way this looks but I just couldn't. Having to look at this thing everyday would hurt my eyes. I won't judge anyone who likes it, I am definitely not one of those.
I also have the FL hatch. I just couldn’t bring myself to get the sedan. Coming from a Jetta, the sedan just didn’t represent enough of a change to justify the decision. Sedan I’d go auto, hatch I went manual premium. I am disappointed about the lack of active cruise control, the steering and lane assist is more annoying than anything useful.
Good choice. I was trying to get the DSG.. dealer in Miami called me that they had one in... drove an hour and a half to see it and when I got there it was a manual. I was so pissed. I went and sat in my car for 20 mins and decided that I might as well give it a spin since I drove all that way. Boy am I glad I did. I'm loving the 6 speed. I don't even care if it's a little slower than the DSG
Thanks for the review Tom. Not sure why you keep comparing it to the WRX which is a bit of a lame duck in my opinion. Agree that this is the pick of the N- performance brigade, but I’d actually go the Sonata N-Line which has similar performance and more space and features for the same money.
@@damienfrizzell9394 yeah I've been real interested in hearing about a side by side comparison. So the sonata handle like a boat in comparison, how about power delivery, cabin space, any other observations?
@@davidleslieturner it has nicer features has radar safety tech a heads up display nicer interior and automatic rear window shades. It is more roomy not allowed to put your foot down and it's also missing the front lsd . Depends if you want a car that is cutting edge in practicality with hint of sporty ness or a car that is cutting edge on sporty ness with a hint of practicality.
I probably wouldn't buy one myself but man are they great value for the driving and tech/interior/infotainment. Toyota, I love my GR Yaris but the interior is shyte in comparison.
I would go this over the WRX, I prefer the AWD of the WRX but I would get an auto and the CVT is something I dont like, now if the dual clutch was in the WRX that would be tasty.
@@mga71 I don't see how it is debatable. During max acceleration, the CVT revs to the engine's peak power and holds it there using its continuously variable gears. That's the pergect way to accelerate. A DCT (or any other gearbox I've seen) revs to peak power and beyond, has a moment where there is no power transmitted to the wheels, then applies less than peak power as it accelerates from the next gear. Those moments of zero power, even if only 10 ms and the fact that less than peak power is being applied a lot of the time mean that it cannot match the performance of a CVT. I know CVT has its downsides, but acceleration is not one of them.
@@JeffGoris when comparing the wrx cvt, it's trash. Look at throttle house WRX vs mazda 3 turbo, and golf r The cvt kills the power everytime. Even they note how terrible subaru's cvt is for the wrx and how it's killing its power. Go watch for yourself.
@@JeffGoris wrong. You aren't including the fact that cvt isnt lossless in your theory.. It most definitely isnt suited to performance cars because of this. Still can help with fuel economy for non performance oriented cars, but unless they can make a perfect cvt trans, then it's never gonna be great for acceleration.. not too mention the awful droning you get when using them
Hate the styling. They need to take some design cues from the French. Needs a panoramic roof, not a sunroof. Performance seems good but I could never bring myself to spend that much on a Hyundai.
@@damienfrizzell9394 well there you go, the i30 N fast back is based on the old platform. They don't do the fastback in Australia on the new platform; so yeah would have been a good car in fastback form.
I have a 2021 STI. It may not be the fastest thing on the roads, but in the wet and twisty roads it’ll kill your stinger. It looks way wayyyy better then a Stinger. And with the 3” Invidia S/S N1 single exit race exhaust system I have on it it also sounds way wayyy nicer then a stinger. And it turns heads all the time. Not to to mention, whose do you think will be worth more of its original RRP in 2-3 years, mine or yours?? Mine is stock and gonna stay that way and ultra low km’s I put on it, and with the hideous looking new WRX mine is only going to hold or even increase in value
Kia Stinger is RWD only, overseas models do offer AWD variants though. But yes in a straight line the Stinger will annihilate the WRX, take it to a track with bends, twists, turns & curves, it becomes a different story.
Does the roof rain gutters have an integrated mounting points for a roof rack? Yes, an odd question but I'm going to carry a paddle board and dislike have a roof rack clip intruding into door frame. Thanks to anyone who can answer this
That interior bar across the centre console would piss me off. It’s like they’ve tried to seperate the driver from passenger and does not suit the car or ergonomics at all. Design faux pas there!
Beautiful car, Horrible to get in and out of. Not designed for us senior drivers.Amazing that he did not mention it. I went to buy one and that immediately put me off.??
Lmao a Subaru wrx destroyer!? Yeah right!! See what that looks like when you go to re-sale it…. Subaru with one of the greatest residual values vs Hyundai with literally one of the worst re-sale values as brands go.
Yeah, Subaru resale value is so good that I used my 2018 WRX to trade in and buy this Elantra N (i-30 N). Lmao This is just a better car. New WRX is ugly as sin with plastic cladding and a 40k USD price tag. No thanks. I won't miss the AWD that much.
