2022 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid: 5 Important Demonstrations Before You Buy | Driving.ca

I recently spent 1,400 kilometres at the wheel of the new-for-2022 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate Hybrid while writing and shooting several projects for TV and web. My testing included a pair of 425-kilometre highway trips, extended use on trail and backroad surfaces common in rural Northern Ontario, and some observations on my tester's use by a rapidly-growing family with two young kids as a test of storage space and passenger volume.
Below, I've summarized my key impressions for in-market shoppers considering the Tucson Hybrid, and I hope they'll help you to confirm or question your purchase decision.
If you're considering a Tucson Hybrid like my tester, a $41,600 Ultimate Hybrid AWD, you're headed in the right direction. It's an excellent machine that drives value-for-the-dollar in several important ways - but there are two weaknesses you'll want to be aware of, too.

I've had my Tucson Hybrid Limited for four months now and it impresses me every time I drive it. I agree with the review for the most part. I traded in my 2016 Tucson Limited for the 2022 and the difference is very dramatic. In fact, it feels like a completely different vehicle. The ride is much better than before and the quietness is very impressive. In my opinion, the interior and exterior styling is much more contemporary than the competition (Rav-4, Rugue, Escape, etc). I have driven several different hybrid vehicles over the years and this Hyundai hybrid drive train is amazingly smooth. You don't hear or feel any weird noises or surges when its shifting from electric to gas mode. Would I buy this vehicle again? ABSOLUTELY!

How do you feel about the mileage? I recently heard the engine starts in cold weather to be able to heat up the car and it disappointed me a bit. I expected an entirely electric heating system.

@@cs7285 As a Tucson Hybrid Ultimate owner, I would recommend this vehicle any day over the gas. The power and torque is so fun, the gas savings especially during this time is freaking amazing. Hands down - best car journalist I’ve seen on RU-vid (and beyond!) This review was so refreshing, all the basics, really relevant to the people who might be looking to buy this car, practical demonstration of space, time lapse video (really great aspect of review), positive but not sugarcoated, just an honest, balanced and well presented/filmed review - plus a demonstration of the light system at night - so helpful. I am looking forward to my test drive later this week. Many thanks and best wishes

I have my Tucson Hybrid 3 months and 21000 km - long trip from West Coast to East and back. Best efficiency is in city driving ( below 6l/100km) but on the hwy is about 7.5 - 8 l/100km ( above 120 km/h). On the long drive is best cruise control and line assist - looks like auto pilot buy need attention. Other safety futures are very useful ( emergency braking, parking in tight spot) were triggered many times on the long trip. Space is good - in emergency I sleep in the cars instead in the tent during heavy rain. Lower parts of trunk is very useful - can keep plenty of junk needed for long journey. I traded 2019 Tucson for Hybrid and I do not regret.

The load floor has a lower and an upper level position so there is no issue. You just need to choose the position best suited to your load needs: Lower for extra height and the Upper for a smooth floor level with the seats and bumper.

I’ve owned many different makes of cars , Mercedes Toyota, VW and my favourite brand being Honda. I now own a Tucson Ultimate Hybrid and I’ve gotta say it’s my favourite vehicle I’ve ever owned. Smooth ride, very quiet, great mileage and it’s so loaded with options I was still discovering new features after owning it a few months. I’m getting about 6.1 km per 100km in the City and 7.5 km on the highway which I think is great for this size of vehicle. On the highway I’m usually going about 120 km per hour so 7.5 isn’t bad. I leased the Tucson for three years but if it stays dependable I’ve already decided I’m not giving it back I’m buying it out.

Just got done with a 2800 (4 days driving, up to 9 hours nonstop except for gas), mile road trip 80% highway mostly on 70mph adaptive cruise with my Hybrid Blue. Trouble free and right on the money 38 mpg. Blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise are wonderful. The only negative I can offer you is that there is a lot of exposed paint on the front of the car. Major bug collector and potential paint chip problem. A black bumper to match the rear might have been a better choice. Oh, and Android Auto is absolutely useless. It is a bad, bad poorly designed app but that has nothing to do with Hyundai.

Let me tell you, Justin, this is nthe most concise and practical car review I've seen. You get to the critical points quickly and emphasize the right Stuff. I really liked the Time Lapse playback. This vehicle is under serious consideration to replace our 2016 CRV Touring with 37K miles on the clock. The only item I would offer, is the Resale Value. As of now, Honda is difficult to beat. 2 Dealers that I shopped (looking at a 2021 CRV HYbrid Touring as well), offered appx $21K to $22.5 K for the 2016 CRV. After 5 years, where we paid $36,000 in May 2016, is extremely good. I don't think a Hyundai deal would offer that much , however, I have not shopped that aspect of a deal yet. I have been unable to test drive a HYundai Tucson Hybrid , as they go right out the door as soon as they get one in.

Funny thing you should say that. I bought a 2017 Kia soul + for 14.5k out the door in Sept 2017. Sold it for 15k with a minor accident in May 2021. And in May 2021, I bought a 2021 Hyundai Tucson. There was a major lull in demand then. I got mine for 27232 with all the incentives and discounts. Now to be fair, I put under 8500 miles on it, I just sold it - have cash in hand - for 31,732. I am in the market and CRV is definitely a consideration but all the tech and cool features are on the Hyundai. Honda has good resale value for sure. But all depending on one's price point, I feel you can get a newer car with fewer miles possibly even under warranty than paying for that Honda. Matter of opinion and preference.

In the US - The limited edition has an auto high beam - will go on when there is no incoming traffic and turn off automatically when there is - by far a fantastic car with a great ride, excellent acceleration, and even better 5-year warranty. Also, the back area height is adjustable, you can adjust the floor to match the level of the tail gate opening. I Highly recommend

My wife and I have just ordered the new 2022 Tucson hybrid Ultimate on August 14th. We have not heard of any arrival timelines at this time but was informed about 3 months depending on microchip issues. I found this video very helpful. We are seniors without kids or pets so we wanted front seat comfort. We really liked the miles per gallon as gas is going up soon. The front passenger front seat adjustments was the main reason for the Ultimate purchase. I wanted my wife to be comfortable especially for these old bones. I appreciated the rough road test completed on this video along with the night head lights. The rough road test will not be a factor in our driving location and habits but found this beneficial. Very clear and honest review. Thank you.

But that goes with any car where the frost is present in the road on the city or highway it’s a dream for me the steering feels really sporty and have no problem making a u turn .ITS very quiet and has great acceleration for suv after all your not driving a Maserati .Iguess bye watching your video you set the cargo floor to the lowest. We have had our 2022 Hyundai Tucson ultimate hybrid for four months and about 8000 km. We looked at Toyotas RAV4 but decided that the interior of the Tucson was fantastic compared to Toyotas SUVs. The only thing that we like better about the rev for what is the expensive optional rearview camera/monitor. Our gas mileage is terrific… Averaging about 6.5 L per 100 km. If there was one thing I would have preferred… It would have been the automatic parallel parking instead of their silly gimmicky smart park. Showed it off in the driveway a couple of times but have never used it. So… Go ahead… Get yourself one of these if you can. You will not be disappointed Overall… Best Hyundai we have ever purchased.

I'm picking up my new Tucson Hybrid tomorrow! 03.25.22. I have yet to drive one. I bought it unseen. I've depended on multiple reviews to make my decision. I'm paying sticker with no markup. I'm thankful the dealership did not inflate the price due to demand. I thought I would have to wait months to get one. The dealer had an unspoken for SEL Convenience in Silver with gray interior. That is exactly the combo I was looking for. I did not feel the need to go Limited trim...SEL will be just fine. I'm trading in my 2014 Ford Escape SE AWD with 132,000 miles on it. The Ford was my daily driver for over 9 years. I'm done with my Ford after 14 recalls, a new rear axle, new headliner, 3 sets of tires, two car accidents, and most recently a valve gasket replacement due to oil leak. The cabin continues to smell like oil despite replacing all filters. It's time for the Ford to go to someone else.

@Pai0near 11,000 miles in now. The best average mileage I’ve had is 33-34 with mixed driving. I have a rattle in my headliner that increases at higher speeds. The Bluetooth phone pairing must be manually redone at least once a month. I’ve had the infotainment screen go blank on me twice. The reset button on front is easy to access with a pen. I’m happy with it still. The car rides and drives better than my Ford Escape ever did. I wish the gas mileage was better. I put in 87 octane and live in Illinois. I don’t commute far. I’ve taken several trips to Chicago and Fort Wayne Indiana…average mileage on long trip is 25-28. The EV mode doesn’t come on as much as I’d hoped. I drove most of my early mileage in smart…now eco most of the time. I never drive in sport. Snow is coming soon so we will see how it handles. For the piece I paid…MSRP…I’m happy that I didn’t pay more to get a hybrid Toyota RAV 4…they are so ugly. I hope this answers most of your questions. The air and heat work well.

I have the Tucson Hybrid Limited here in the US. I loved most things about it when new for the first 1,000 mi (4 weeks). Unfortunately, as others have reported, the 1.6T engine has issues. In my case, something went South after an hour long drive on a hot day in June. A distinctive engine shudder occurred when coming to a stop, and the engine has never been the same. It pings/rattles at around 2500-3000 rpm, sounding like a buzz box. Dealer can't figure it out on multiple tries and no trouble codes have been thrown. Disappointing for an otherwise nice vehicle. EV mode is very nice. The new 1.6T engine with Valve Duration tech is problematic, Google it. I wouldn't buy it again.

Thanks! Between those two, the Tucson feels more polished and refined and modern throughout. Biggest difference is probably the noise level of the powertrain, and I think the Hyundai interior is a major advantage as well. Tucson is quieter on the highway if memory serves but the RAV4 does better on rough roads (quieter and feels softer on its feet).

It's like a 400lb guy complaining the Cooper Mini is too small for his girth and that's a deal-killer. Maybe try this Doug DeMuro review of the Tucson... he's about 6'3" or 6'4"... depending on the day of the week. Went into dealer last week, told us we are not on the December shipment they are scheduled for, so probably …PROBABLY…Jan/Feb shipment. Could be longer they said. So best case is End of Aug to Feb equals 6 months. We were also told 8 to 12 weeks when we bought. We put money down and traded in our 2020 Elantra that we owned outright. Now we wait…..The only upside is we got $16k on the Elantra on the trade and can keep using it until the Tucson arrives without changing the trade In value. Thanks for an excellent video. I currently have a 2019 Santa Fe and want to down size. I have been told that the Tucson does not have a spare tire and no extra storage space under the top floor as in the Santa Fe. Is the reason it"s a smaller vehicle or my maybe the Hybrid batteries are located in that section. I also notice a volume/station knob do not appear on this vehicle.
@wolfshanze5980
@wolfshanze5980 2 года назад
I don't have the 2022 Tucson (yet, but will), I currently have a 2018 Tucson, and it does have a spare tire. Having said that, I seem to be the flat-tire king, because I work in a place full of hardware, I end up with more flat tires than I care to comprehend. Nails, screws, all sorts of construction debris has gotten embedded in my tires and left me with basically zero pressure and a dash control panel warning of a flat tire. I've never once used my spare tire. Most modern tires, and certainly the ones I have on my 2018 Tucson are "run flat" tires. Meaning with little more than atmospheric pressure in the tires, you can still drive on them, without ruining the rim, at least long enough to have the tire repaired. You'd pretty much need a complete disintegration of your tire to actually need to use a spare tire these days. As for the infotainment center... totally depends which version of the 2022 Tucson you get... if you get the Limited, YES, it has no volume control knob... you'll need to use the +/- buttons on the infotainment center and/or the volume rocker on your steering wheel. If you get a lower trim level with the smaller infotainment screen, they all come with a physical volume roller wheel you can roll up/down for volume. Also, the smaller infotainment screen with the volume wheel on the lower trims is also wireless for android auto/apple play, where-as the bigger "fancier" one is plug-in-only... odd that, don't ask why.

@drivingca
@drivingca 3 года назад
Hey Leonardo So it's been a few weeks but looking back at my notes, I didn't mention it as either a problem or a plus, meaning that even cruising up to about 120 kph I would have found it about average for a crossover of that size and price. That's based on the vehicles I've driven, where and how I drive. Hope that helps!
@petepete6912
@petepete6912 2 года назад
I don't have a wind noise issue with the Blue model, maybe because it doesn't have the funky sunroof. I think my tires are quieter than the 19 inch tires also.
@wolfshanze5980
@wolfshanze5980 2 года назад
@@petepete6912 The lower Tucson trim packages (SE and Blue) have 17" tires, while the higher trims (SEL and Limited) have 19" tires... so the question is: “Does increasing tire size increase road noise and decrease ride quality?” Yes and no. Depends on how you increase the size. Taller = no. Wider = Yes. Taller tires maintain the same footprint or tread contact pattern. Wider tires put more tire in contact with the road. More contact = more noise.

@@wyw201 The Japanese have been very secretive with their gas motors calibration. It's one of the biggest edge they have over Hyundai.
