Would be my absolute 1st choice in the FTR lineup Looks awesome!! Lets see you ride some fire/gravel road and light off road. I think that’s what sets it apart from the rest! Tire choices is pretty massive as the rear is the same as the Tenere 700 and Africa Twin while the front is the same as the 1250 GS and 750 GS I’m sure you’ll have loads of fun on this bike!

I had one for a year and a half. Absolute hoot to ride. Sounded mint (I had the Remus can and link pipe). When new did 80, maybe 90 miles to a tank. After 4k miles that increased to average 115 miles. Biggest pain is filling it up with the neck shape to the fuel tank. I toured Wales twice and Scotland on it. Cheap to service too. Way cheaper than my Thruxton R. You'll like it.

I own a 2019 FTR RR.. but I have added those wheels and bars with 50-50 tires to play on gravel roads a little!! I find the FTR a very FUN bike!! You'll love it

On the tyre thing regarding on/off road. People always say things like "good for fire roads". Thing is... I can ride on fire roads and dry mud trails on my Michelin Road 5s. Knobblies get muddy, but not great mud shedding doesn't make them bad. You still have the tread to push yourself through wet mud. As someone who has never had knobblies but is a fan of weekend wild camping in the summer... those tyres are off-road biased.

For a short guy like my self with low confidence, experience and useable 'talent'. I do wish they did the flat track racer 750cc for road use.

I also have a 2022 FTR Rally. The scrambler look w/ the wire wheels work really well. I went from "Hey, there's a scrambler version of the FTR!" to owning one in a 6 hour period. Road biased is the word. Yes it looks off roadish, but without a proper bash plate, one needs to be mindful of the limitations. The OEM Scorpion tires are decent, but not great. I'd love some Michelin Anakees (or similar) later on if they make them in the required sizes. I hated the OEM mirrors. I'm a larger than average person, and I got sick of seeing just my elbows. DoubleTake Adventure mirrors are much better and I think they go nicely with the scrambler aesthetic (YMMV).I tried some bar end mirrors, and they didn't really do it for me. IDK if your dealer reflash for the exhaust helped the cold running or not, but these are cold blooded bastards in the morning. Since it sounds like your's is a loaner from Indian, I don't know how much latitude, if any, you have in these matters. With a Dynojet PV3 reflash from Fuel Moto, things are noticeably better in the morning and power delivery overall is a bit smoother throughout. Opinions vary, but I find the rear cylinder deactivation rather annoying. It's quite noticeable and feels like something just went wrong. The seat that comes on the rally version is decently comfortable for longish rides. You will find the range disappointing, so you won't have a lot of time to get uncomfortable on the seat. Of course the design is excellent in that it keeps you from sliding off when you get a bit too enthusiastic with the throttle. Not sure if it's good or bad, but I can pretty much guarantee you will need to factor in extra time when you are out and about. People will want to talk to you about the bike. Enjoy.

I recently got my motorcycle license and casually looked at this FRT Rally for my first bike. I was (thankfully) advised against this as a "beginner" bike, and actually ended up going with the Triumph Trident 660, which you also owned. We must have similar tastes. Still, I think this FTR Rally is one of the best looking bikes out there. I'm looking forward to more content about it!
@mariussteenangell5262
@mariussteenangell5262 2 года назад
Grats man. The trident is definetly a better beginner bike, being smaller, lighter, with more managble power. I would never recommend a new bike for a beginner(mostly for you to figure out what you like and dislike in bikes without swapping new bikes like my dad did), but that might be down to budget for me. I ended up with a Yamaha GTS atm, which is something impossible to find as a new bike too(you motorcycle nerds should google it if you havent heard of it).

For me, this bike seems the perfect synthesis for those of us who have come from the Cruiser world, the naked world, the sport bike world, and the dirtbike world, which also includes the adventure world. I will definitely be watching for future videos, as this is one of the few bikes I would consider laying down some serious cash on.

I bought the new S model. It's got decent rubber and handles like a dream. I really don't want knobblies on the road and I actively dislike off roading, so that isn't an issue for me. As far as riding position goes, I fitted the rally bars and the upright posture is spot on.
@yassassin6425
@yassassin6425 2 года назад
I have the 2019 S and I couldn't wait to bin off the Continental Road Attack 3 tyres that I had fitted. Excellent rubber, incredible response, feel and grip, but I hated the look. This is supposed to be a Flat Track Racer - so I replaced them with the tyres you see here, the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs. Doesn't feel like a block tread in the slightest - slightly slower more ponderous steering, but after 50 odd miles I'd adapted and never looked back. Incredible tyres and they look so aggressive. We differ, because I will frequently green lane and take the bike on unsealed hard packed dirt surfaces and loose gravel. Given that the STRs perform so well on the road, the option to take the bike off the asphalt is an added bonus. One of the best changes I've made.

I've toured quite well on my Rally, while range isnt great the bike is comfortable, the taller bars help and the wee headlight cowl does seem to offer a little something. mines a 2021 so not sure what the differences are. The tyres are better than expected tbh. Looking forward to your thoughts

As you get more into touring with it, I would be interested in what you have to say about comfort with the riding position. I'm a taller rider and I did throw a leg over at a dealership and felt a bit up on my wrists on it. I really like it but wonder if it's for me. Also I've heard that the current S is much more friendly than the original. Anyway, very much looking forward to the content.

I suspect for tires youd be well served by the all the Starbucks spec ADV tires in 1250GS sizes. Things like Shinko 705/704, Anakee Adventures, Battleaxe A41.
@yassassin6425
@yassassin6425 2 года назад
Don't rate the Shinko, or like the look of the Anakee - and the Bridgestones would look terrible on the 'Rally'. I have the 2019 FTR S and have spent time and money attempting to get it looking as close to the flat track racer that it originally purported to be pre-launch. At first I fitted arguably the optimum rubber on it for this bike - Continental Road Attack 3, but in my opinion it looked shit and I wanted something more in keeping with the spirit of the bike. I chose precisely these tyres in the video. Reasons? I've ridden them before, I very much favour Pirelli, they look brilliant and although they have their limitations off road (mud), they are surprisingly capable on sealed/paved surfaces. In fact I've dragged my knee several times since fitting. Excellent tyres, great aggressive looks and incredibly forgiving on the road for a block pattern. One of the best changes I made. Completely transformed the look of my bike.
