I have a 2021 Kia Rio s your video was very helpful I'm going to change the oil and filter for the first time myself this weekend tired of the dealership charging me $100 for an oil change hopefully there wasn't any major changes in the engine from 2021 to 2022 for I can follow your video I noticed you didn't take any pictures I read online that you should always take pictures when changing your own oil take pictures of the mileage and you actually doing the oil change for warranty purposes and documentation anyways it seems pretty straightforward on the Kia Rio for oil changes

A little late for comment but I think you may need a different filter.

I got my 22 Rio HB back in January, Great car that is great on fuel. Great video by the way.

Yes the fuel mileage is better than some of my friends hybrids. I appreciate the compliment. Oil change video very soon on a black 22 Rio. I found a better way to deal with the oil filter.

I know you said 15/16 socket for the filter, but what size do you use for opening the oil pan itself? Obviously a different one if you're using the double sided wrench.

Not trying to be ugly but this is basically "shade tree" work. I am a Certified Master Tech with over 46 years experience. First, it needs to be clear to use only 6 point sockets (or box end wrench) to prevent "rounding off" the drain bolt and/or the canister housing. By removing that drain plug from the canister just adds another step and could cause an oil leak. You are going to get oiled so there is no need for this step. You can get a glove with a built in funnel if you can't take a little oil. Next.....the drain bolt and canister should be torqued to specification using a torque wrench. With the bolt, it properly seals the crush washer and it prevents stretching the threads on the bolt which will damage the oil pan itself. And correct torque on the plastic canister will prevent deforming or cracking the plastic housing. While I think it's great people want to do this on their own....I have literally made thousands of dollars going behind a DIY. Don't follow this guy's way of doing it...while he got the job done but the way he did it can cause future problems that are expensive to repair. Basic torque wrenches are not expensive....neither are 6 point sockets/wrenches. Doing it the right way will more than pay for itself in future repairs,

@@mikeraffphone829 you are right. I actually like to drain it. I don't like when oil splashes over when tipped. I didn't want to argue with mastertech. Maybe he replaces plastic cap and filter every time. Just charges to customer. 😆

I’m glad I ran across your video. Was about to order metal filters. What is the part number for the filter? Thanks
@kiarevolution
@kiarevolution 2 года назад
26350-2M000 they went back to the one they were using back in 2019 and 2020. They used metal spin on filter in 2021.

Where can I buy the oil pan can I buy it from Amazon where’s the link to that ?

The part you want is 215102M000 and I don't see one on Amazon. Remember Hyundai parts with that part number will work too. They are pricey, If you can get a good one at salvage yard it should be much cheaper hopefully.

Really every 8k miles? Dealership told me do it every 4,500-5k lol

The oil reset is every 8k too

Owners manual says under normal conditions 8k, under aggressive conditions 5k. City stop/go traffic is aggressive conditions for any car

I won't wait 5000. 3000 is the norm regardless of what type of oil you are using.
@jigsta9

There's plenty of videos out there. 5k is the new norm, never go with 8k changes. Will destroy your engine after 200k miles or so.. Been happening with Toyota.

Years ago the manufactures out of the blue started recommending oil change intervals of 5000 and 7500 miles! For years it was every 3500 miles until oil change places started popping up everywhere and then it became every 3000 miles. I change my oil every 3000 miles that way if I go over a little bit I'm still within the older 3500 mile limit. I'm here today to tell and warn anyone reading this comment DO NOT WAIT TO CHANGE YOUR OIL PASSED 3000 MILES REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOUR MANUAL SAYS OR THE OIL ITSELF SAYS!!!! Oil today is pretty thin and over time unburnt gas introduced into the oil from ring blowby will thin that oil even more leaving you with less wear protection. Plus combustion chamber contaminates will build up in your oil also, this is why your oil turns black. That will lead to slug in your engine. For these reasons it's best to stick with 3000 mile intervals for the best protection and longest life of your engine. Plus you might start burning oil after 3000 miles. I've used conventional motor oil in my cars all my life and have driven two of those cars over 200,000 miles without slugging up the engines or having any oil related breakdowns. One of those cars never burned any oil and my current car has 140,000 miles on it and it doesn't use any oil either. The first car I owned that did use oil was burning it when I bought it at the rate of a quart every 1500 miles. I still put over 200,000 miles over 8 years on that thing so it's not the end of the world if your car is burning oil, just say'n. The other two cars I've owned since new didn't and haven't used any oil between changes. Take it from someone with experience, CHANGE YOUR OIL EVERY 3000 MILES!!!!

Wrong. Synthetic oil has been tested many times and has almost lifetime durability. But to be safe, change every 15k miles, or once a year with filter. Otherwise you are wasting your money, planet and resources.
