This is a Motormouth couple car review of the 2022 Kia Stinger sportback. The Kia Stinger shot onto the scene few years ago and for 2022 it gets some very nice updates including a new interior fitted with suede and larger infotainment screen. The interior on the top trim boasts leather seats with suede inserts, red stitching, suede dash and red seat belts. The other two trims comes with of the 2022 Kia Stinger come with leather and Nappa leather seat. There are some major differences between the Canadian Stinger for 2022 and the US Stinger. First, the base 2.5L turbo 4-cylinder engine isn't offered here in Canada but is offered in the US with the option to have RWD or AWD. All the Canadian spec 2022 Stinger sportback cars come with a 3.3L twin-turbocharged V6 engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, 368 horsepower and 376 lb-ft of torque. The US base model has a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission, it has 300 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. This Kia Stinger has gone through a mid-cycle refresh. There’s the introduction of the GT Elite trim, which we are testing with the suede package. There is a new alloy wheel design, rear combination lamps and rear diffuser plus quad exhaust tips. This Kia Stinger comes loaded with standard features like a 7” instrument cluster, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a wireless charger, heated sport steering wheel, heated and air-cooled leather seats, heated rear seats, driver seat memory, a 15 speaker Harman Kardon sound system and a power liftgate. A head-up display is standard on the top two trims. All available safety features come standard on the Stinger. They include, lane keep assist, lane follow assist, blind-spot collision avoidance, advanced forward collision, rear-cross traffic alert, 360 camera, rear parking sensors and hill assist control. The GT Elite suede package trim we are testing, comes with suede seats, a suede dashboard, red stitching throughout and red seatbelts. This trim is $53,295 CAD.

Every time I see a Kia Stinger on the road, it just puts a smile on my face knowing that that the person who bought it knew all along that it is a beast in sheep clothing. The fact that it is pretty much like an Audi A7 is a bonus as I too am a fan of the A7. Power, AWD, oh wow, something to think about for my next car! Oh, and Andrea cannot hide the fact that she loves anything with POWER! Zack always has to calm her down and to take it easy, LOL! You two ROCK! Killing it with smooth segues, I must say! Very happy watching steady rise in Subscriber's count, but I sure hope you get more!

Exactly - your point about smiling while knowing the person who bought it knew their stuff. I thought the same everytime I saw one on the road (before we bought ours). I always considered our Optima EX quite quick - but when the Stinger 3.3L TT AWD came out and we test drove one...I started countin' the days until we traded up to the Stinger. We've now owned six Kias over the years (Rio, Forte, Sedona, Sorento, Optima...and now a Stinger) - so we've watched Kia's progression with huge smiles on our faces. As a 56yr old car guy, I love the idea of pullin' alongside a Mustang GT or Audi at the light...and quietly sayin' under my breath - good luck, lol.

Lets not get carried away here Its nowhere near an Audi A7 in anything But yes, it obviously took inspiration from the A7 in its exterior and interior
@khronin
@khronin 3 года назад
@@joecool9739 The standard A7 can sprint from zero to 60 mph in 5.2 seconds. Its turbocharged V6 engine feels brawny, eagerly shuttles the A7 up to speed, and is complemented by a refined seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that fires off quick yet smooth shifts.The Stinger is faster then an A7 which costs more then double a stinger--to beat a stinger in the 7 series from Audi you have to put almost 100k or more down.

These KIA Stingers certainly stand out. I think they look awesome. But just imagine how epic this vehicle would be ... if it were an Estate (a station wagon)! There would basically be ZERO competition under $75 grand (MB E-class wagons). Still... as it is... it still remains a head turner. Especially with that interior and at that price point. I expect it to do very well, for KIA. Thanks for the video. Kia has really become much more reliable and desirable than in the past . For example, a used Telluride often sells for more than original msrp! Kia”s great value and superior warranty are indicators that Stinger should have excellent resale value too.

Another awesome review review you two. Its too bad that the Stinger doesn't sell as well as it should. For a non premium brand, Kia has thrown a lot of upscale features to the Stinger and it has an excellent powertrain for way less money than the premium brands from Germany and Japan. I can see why you two are impressed with this vehicle. 👏 Its too bad that consumers, including myself may overlook this car because it doesn't wear a premium badge.

Very interesting review, guys. Viewed from here in the US I noticed a couple of points. () When the Stinger was introduced several years ago it generated lots of plaudits from reviewers. Unfortunately for KIA, however, its sales have never matched those positive reviews. There are several reasons but among the most important was a factor that you cited about the base version with the 2.0L turbo engine, the model that should have been the Stinger's volume seller. Instead, Its sales were dismal in the US just as they were in Canada. To remedy that in the US KIA is offering the GT-Line model with the new 2.5L turbo engine that KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis are deploying in at least 7 different vehicles as either a standard or optional powerplant. As you noted, that model isn't available in Canada and having driven both the GT-Line and the big brother GT1 with its twin turbo 3.3L V6, in my opinion that's a shame. It's a vast improvement in both performance and fuel economy over the previous 2.0L engine. And while the GT1 offers neck snapping acceleration (0-60 in about 4.7 seconds) the GT-Line does that job in about 5.2 seconds with more linear power delivery and a 231 lb weight savings,, virtually all of it over the front wheels. No question that the twin turbo version of the Stinger is an impressive vehicle, just as it has been since the vehicle was introduced. But the GT-Line with its new 4 cylinder engine is an impressive "grand touring" sedan in its own right. () Speaking of a "grand touring" sedan, kudos for putting the Stinger in its appropriate category. Many North American consumers don't understand the designation "GT" as it's applied in Europe. It's not a two door coupe with a V8 engine (e.g. a Mustang) and it's not a "sports sedan" exemplified by the 3-series BMW. It's a midsize 4 door sedan designed to carry 4-5 passengers in comfort at speeds over 100 mph over well maintained European highways and navigating European backroads originally laid down by the Romans two millennia ago or narrow urban streets in European cities. Understood in those terms, the Stinger is an impressive vehicle in with either its 4 cylinder or its V6 engine. () As noted above I've recently driven both the GT-Line and GT1 Stingers and found each to be a bargain compared to the competition. The GT1 arguably falls a bit short of European vehicles from Audi, BMW, and MB but at a price point that is very, very appealing. The GT-Line offers even greater savings. In that case, the most appropriate rival is the VW Arteon. As an owner of both a KIA (Sorento) and a VW (GTI), I'm undecided between them. () Again, thanks for the review, folks. It's always great to hear a Canadian perspective on vehicles we share and the differences between the ones available in both countries. I have to say that KIA has done Canadians a favor in outfitting the highest trim Stingers while offering Americans a base version that Canadians unfortunately don't have a chance to purchase.

Great reply! I currently own a 21 A35. I cross shopped and briefly looked at the GT2. If they would of offered the suede dash and bits like the CN version, I’d probably have picked it over the A35. I love my A35, which was priced with four options and 47.4 OTD, but in a couple years I’ll def be looking at the GT2 hard. My biggest complaint is the hood, need to make them vents functional or get rid of them.

Great review Andrea and Zack - you are a great couple! Am seriously considering the Stinger GT2 here in the US. I am also looking BMW/ Mercedes but cannot see paying almost the same $ for one of their turbo 4's and fake leather! Based on what I've seen from Kia lately, the company is ascending in terms of product (Telluride and Sorento), quality (JD Power) and image (new badge and auto press). The only downside I see is maybe the dealership experience but that probably varies. Thanks for the review and keep 'em coming!

Prior to the 2017 E-Class I had a 2015 BMW 5 Series M-Sport . . . before that another M-B. The M-B & BMW care were all great, but I like the stinger more and not just the fact that Stingers are are $20K less, but still more fun. Agree the Stinger is a fantastic car but I went with G70 because to match payments with the concierge service it would have meant dropping down a level on Stinger. Awesome review. I bought a new 2018 GT (Canadian), it has been a great, very reliable daily driver. It is 85% as good as an S5 (and bigger) for 60% of it's price (In Canada I paid $40K CDN and a S5 would have been at least $70K CDN). I like the new infotainment, kinda like the rear lights, not sure about tail pipes and wheels. The front new Kia logo is better, but in back it is too big and looks to be a different metal and finish to the other badges back there and it looks odd. The big "Stinger" script on US cars looks better (I have changed mine to that too.) Overall the changes are not a big enough reason to upgrade just yet. Glad the Stinger put a smile on your faces like it does mine everyday. Keep up the great work.

He’s backkkk ..... ;-) Zack & Andrea one of the MOST important omissions from your reviews (and pretty well all auto reviewers) is no mention of car warranties, especially when you bring up competitive auto brands... with Kia having 5 year 100,000km warranty that outshines upscale German brands. When people purchase vehicles, warranties are in top 5 factors in purchasing (my guess). We purchased my wife’s Hyundai Tuscon knowing it would be a long term purchase, thus warranty made a big difference in our car buying choices. Great videos looking forward to new ones you are creating.

At some point they may have to decide to put a Genesis badge on the Stinger .. Get rid of the G70/G80 .. The GV70/GV80 will probably dictate that eventually .. Keep Stinger as Genesis' premier GT .. (sportback) Eventually come out with a pure sports vehicle/supercar .. Call it .................. the Scorpion? (similar to directly compete vs. NSX) The Stinger honestly does not belong with other Kia's .. It's a class above the others, and deserves better care/service under a true premium brand ..

Andrea, jerking? Besides missing this video the first time (?) I really enjoyed this video. I’ve driven the 2.5 and the 3.3 in AWD and the 2.5 is surprisingly good. It’s quick off the line but the 3.3 has more guts in the midrange to top end. If I were in the market here in the US, I’d go for the 2.5 AWD fully loaded for under $45,000 US. I think the Stinger with either engine is a bargain. It’s a shame that Kia might cancel Stinger after the 22 model.

Is the 2022 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD better than the 2021 Kia Stinger GT2 AWD, is there any difference (pricing, equipment, technically,...)?. 🤔

The new logo doesn’t seem to suit a car brand, bit at least it’s much better than the previous. Love the wheels - reminiscent of the BMW Comp.

An excellent review that is simple and from a normal drivers point of view which I liked. That version looks stunning. We won't get that version here in Oz which is unfortunate as I would seriously think about changing my current Stinger GT for this one in the video. In Oz, a similar specced German car would cost twice as much. I did the exercise last year before buying my Stinger GT. That is a lot of dollars to pay for a badge and brand.

I agree with you guys. Minor but Spot On changes make this car look better. If they could only get rid of the boy racer details as the fake hood vents and the ones behind the front wheels, if they are fake, and the unnecessarily large exhaust tips (they are already dual for God sake!), it would make for a much more sophisticated long-lasting look, which would make Auidi and BMW potential buyers pass over the none premium logo. Fine review as always. Best wishes for you and all of your viewers.

When I bought my new Telluride I immediately put on the KLexus badge overlays on it. They are sometimes called Kias prestige or luxury logo. It’s available at dealerships or on Amazon. It’s actually a registered trademark of Kia internationally, but rarely used in North America.

Great car, no doubt. So many good ones to choose from. Beside the Stinger, other fun, good-looking cars are the A5 Sportback, the BMW GT 4 Series, the Infinity Q60 (not as practical), the Lexus RC (ditto), the new TLX , the G70 (especially manual), the C-Class, the Mustang Gt, the Camaro SS and the CT4 - and CT5 V's. Thank you for the fun review.

I personally think that that Acura Integra Type-S competes more with the Stinger than the Acura TLX Type-S.

Apologies, if this is a repeat. The relatively better Canadian price is likely compensation for the Canadian warranty being 5 years when the US gets 10 years. Still, a hell of a deal for a great car.

It's a 4-cylinder engine which is why we didn't pick it. Less horsepower. Although, in the US you do get the smaller 4-cylinder so sure I suppose it could be a competitor.

Good for KIA on the styling front, Zach you said it in the Telluride review... the Telluride has raised Kia's brand awareness. I've only ever seen a handful of Stingers since it's launch.... Telluride' are far more common... Audi A5/S5 Sportbacks are everywhere... Good car, but far from being a sales success for KIA. Sadly it's days may be numbered.

And that’s really unfortunate. I actually see three to five Stingers a week here in Chicago, which is up compared to maybe two a month last year. I’ve been interested in Kia since the 2011 Optima hit the scene. I finally got a 2019 Optima which I love. Does it blow the hat off my head and put butterflies in my stomach with excitement when I drive? Not at all, but I definitely appreciate how far they have come when it comes to design, technology, and the UX of interiors and center consoles. I advise people to really sit in the newer Kia’s and take them for a drive.

Hyundai/Kia product planners are doing a much better job in CA than the US. You guys get color contrasting seat belts (Stinger, Elantra N Line, etc), full digital gauges (K5 GT), and even cars (Kia Soul EV) we can't get here in the states. Its starting to make me a bit jealous.

The V6 is too expensive and the 2.5 liter 4 cyl has plenty of power to be fun without guzzling gas. I just wish the shift lever was the same because the 4 cyl T-handle looks cheaper than the GT shift lever.
@austenrichardgeorge842

The price difference is partly in the warranty. Canada = 5 years 100,000km The US is 10 years 100,000 MILES! Still, perhaps you can buy an extended warranty through Kia Canada to bridge the gap. With all of Kia's engine recalls over the last few years - it would be good to get a warranty (but then that is true for all the German cars as well).
