A few months ago wife and I shopped the Telluride SXP Xline hard but could not bring ourselves to pay thousands over MSRP for it. Ended up with a Chevy Traverse Premier Redline for about 5k under MSRP, so off the bat we saved probably $10k-$15k versus the Telluride. At first I was very hesitant about getting a GM product but this vehicle has truly grown on me, with its room, safety features, looks, and how fun it is to drive given that the engine has some good giddy-up. Obviously time will tell about the durability, but our neighbor has had one for 4 trouble free years, so I hope ours follows suit.
Same here, only an LT3. Couldn't say no to $5K off and driving it home the same day in this market. My wife liked it better than all the rest too due to how roomy, comfortable, and easy driving it is. That surprised me. I think a lot of times reviewers lose sight of what really matters to buyers.
@plmn93 whenever we take a weekend trip in the Traverse and I get back to driving my 4Runner during the week it feels like Im in quicksand. Its a 2015 with 153k miles. I love it. Again, hoping the Traverse gives us the same.
@@mrvang8077 the 2024 (2nd half model) + 2025 model are DOPEEE.. the new 2025 is basically a mini Yukon. 2024 is suppose to have 2 models LS, LT, RS will still have the 2023 body style & interior. I believe later 2024 the Limited will either stop all together or be sold with the new body style. Not really sure
It's a great looking vehicle with much more useful features than its other competitors. It is very easy to service on your own without the headaches down the line. Keep it well, maintain, and it will last. I'm not hating on these other competitors' midsize crossover suv, but they just don't have what this 2nd gen traverse has. In terms of value for your money. Every vehicle has flaws here and there, some more than others. It just depends on the manufacturer, and they're leading team designer of the vehicle and how well they're put together. Do a half a**, and you'll get a piece of junk. Do a great job, and you will have a strong, dependable vehicle that people will love. When you get a car that starts having mechanical issues, especially with a newer vehicle with such a low mileage. You'll know that it was a rush build at the last minute notice.
I have had ZERO issues with my Traverse RS. I have the 2.0 liter turbo. The only year it was available. It's bigger than the telluride and much better. I'm waiting until 2024 to get a new one. I don't think it's even close to be honest
My mom loves the traverse. She has a 2012. Personally idk why, but she likes it over luxury cars. When it breaks she wants her next car to be a traverse. I don't it...
@@mythoughts9801 "Luxury" cars have become sports cars with a bunch of gadgets thrown in. SUVs are much closer to what people used to consider luxurious. Spacious, comfortable, and nice riding. I don't blame her one bit.
@@JPM5857 In terms of reliability I don't see the difference. According to Scotty kilmer the 3.6l v6 and even the Transmission that GM use in the Traverse, Equinox, Acadia, Terrain and Enclave has issues as they age. I dont really know much about the motor but I do know that the tranny's in those models do start to fail between 100-150k miles sometimes.... So far my mom, aunt, cousin and step mom all have traverses and they don't have any of these issues and 3 of them have at least 120k miles of their Traverse. My step mom's car is new but she's had an older 1 before.... My sister had the enclave and her tranny started failing around 120k miles. A co worker of mine had the 2009 Saturn version (the Outlook) and her tranny started failing.... Idk about the telluride. It's too new for anyone to be having issues but they have a good predicted reliability.
We wanted a 23 Telluride. 7K over MSRP in my area. Didn't want to pay the markup. Got a 23 Traverse. Been great and got it a couple K under MSRP. Hopefully the problems stay away.
I have 2 teenager boys and after sitting in all the mid size SUVs we went with Traverse. It, by far, has more room in 2nd and especially 3rd row and in the cargo area. I don’t remember the measurements, but you feel the difference in there with teens! Both great SUVs!
I have a 2021 Traverse and my friend has the Kia. The Traverse, according to us, 7 women that have been in both all agree the Traverse is a smoother ride, more space and cost less. You do get a more luxurious look with the Kia but the Traverse all around is the top pick here, lol.
Looks are subjective. I like the interior of the Telluride better, particularly in white and blue. But to me the exterior looks lumpy and incoherent, almost cartoonish, where as the Traverse looks clean and chiseled.
Dang. That's alot of people who like the traverse more. I mean you cant go wrong with either. The kia just looks so cool to me. A huge box on wheels. The traverse is probably better overall but that transmission thing is scary. Would definitely buy an extended warranty on both of these products
@@DeeeBeee123 From what I have found the 2021 trans is doing good and the only thing I can find that people are having issues with, not many people either, the stick shift gets stuck. I haven't had any issues and I live in the mountains 2 miles off pavement all up hill. So far I am loving it. But I have less then 10,000 miles on mine so far.
Yeah, Chevy traverse for me. For all the things you listed. Plus way more room behind the 3rd row, probably double the storage room under the third row false floor. Better view out the windows. Easily to me is styling. The telluride is too off and bubbley of styling.
I was hoping that the transmission issues with the Traverse were fixed. It has been the number 1 issue with the Traverse for a few years now. Here in Texas where I am located the Kia is running $6-$7,000 higher than the Traverse. I’m seriously thinking of taking the chance with the 2023 Traverse and praying that the transmission issues have been addressed. Both really great choices. We like the 8 person seating with our large family.
I own a traverse, love the look of it on the RS package, th red stiching, tow couple old c10 with it and even drove it on the sand dunes on the beach and did not get stuck. I think traverse hilds better value if you decide to sale it
The thing with GM pricing is that you used to be able to get big discounts to bring the cost down. That is no longer happening but I have also seen Kia (and Toyota and Honda) dealers jacking up prices in my area. If you are paying MSRP, the Kia is a better value, especially in the higher trims. Once the market starts normalizing again I think GM will start throwing incentives out again making the Traverse more competitive. I hope so, because I do like the Traverse better overall.
Well dealers are dealing now, I was offered one for 5K off and couldn't turn it down. We looked at them all and this is what my wife liked best. Yeah the interior is dated but it's roomy, comfortable, drives great, and has everything I need.
I was never a fan of KIA cars since Ive heard about many safety issues. I had malibu 2017, great car, Ford fiesta sel, terrible transmission issues, vw beetle, coolant housing issues, 2020 equinox lt, was great for long travels, camaro 2021, great sport car and still own it, and now Ive just purchased traverse LT 3lt, leather with tow hitch, 7 seats, amazing smooth rides, feels like you swimming on the water, it's great. llocally it eats gas, but for long distances its great, cargo is big, addition you can add roof luggage crossbars, hitch you can tow a trailed and its great on gas as well. maps are in system, all info displays, while driving you can look up back camera to check your trailer or even just to look back. total 50k plus taxes etc but worth money, Id chose safety over the look and luxury.
Compare the base trims. The Traverse is an easy winner based on price to value. No doubt the KIA has a more luxury feel on the inside. The Traverse is larger , faster, and quieter. Any transmission issue at 9000 miles would be a concern for sure. I thought that was a thing of the past for Chevy but perhaps not. Thank you for your video.
Transmission issues seem to be a thing for everybody with these 8, 9, 10, speeds and CVTs. That was a big jump in complexity and it's taking a while for manufacturers to figure it out. From what I've found, changing the fluid every 30-40K instead of following manufacturer recommendations of 100K or "lifetime" may help. I'd recommend getting models with tow packages because they have transmission coolers, and heat is what typically destroys these things early.
I live in Ohio. If I lived there, I would definitely come there to get one of these cars . I've watched so many videos on this model, and you have explained and shown more than anyone . Well done Sir.
I’ll take the Traverse over the Telluride, and besides he already made up his mind before he start comparing the vehicles. I own a Traverse and it’s loaded with all the bells and whistles. And it was less than 50k. This is my opinion like that was his opinion. We know what we like, so it doesn’t matter.
Probably depends on how much gear you're taking with you. If you don't take a lot and your dog is ok in the back, then either of these would probably do well for you. Thanks for your kind words!
Yeah we were told 9-14. Not worth it. Chevy dealers now have Traverses in stock and they are dealing. You can save thousands and drive it home the same day. My wife liked the way it drove and handled better than the Telluride, as well as the additional space. Being able to actually buy it sealed the deal.
I own an sedona and it too is low on power... kia needs to address this... Our van has been good, but lacks so badly in power that I'd probably switch from Kia next purchase.
That's strange. We have 2015 Sedona and I am always impressed with the the acceleration. At 104K besides regular maintenance the only thing we've had go bad is the washer pump. $40 item. That won't be the case with the Traverse.
2022 traverse LT with only 7000 miles valve transmission failure towed the car to the dealership still under warranty but I would expect something from Chevy for that. I will not keep it it’s a leased vehicle I’ll just get a Highlander.
Bummer, another head to head that doesn't compare driver seat leg room. As a tall person with a bum hip this is a high priority. The Traverse is one of the few I've sat in that gives my right leg a comfortable length/position, wish you had mentioned the Kia's. Wish I could get the leg room of a Traverse in a Santa Fe or Blazer.
I just don't find anything great about that kia suv. It's rather dull and boring looking suv, but that's just my opinion. Everyone has a certain different taste in car body style. I like the 2nd gen traverse better except for the newer 2019 and up, which just got weirder. Still a great looking body style, hands down, period. I got the 2018 LT awd for 29 grand with just 53000 miles on it. The interior and storage space on the kia is not the greatest looking interior. It is not luxurious by no means. The traverse has a lot more room and storage capacity and the sleek sporty bodystyle to back it up.
I like the kia, however the quality of there engines and power train isn’t the greatest. Hence why they offer 10yr /100k warranty…. For value/ quality 2023 highlander XSE or Pilot
Pilot is not what it used to be. The ZF-9 transmission was junk and the engines had VCM issues. New engine and new transmission this year, hopefully it's better. Highlander's 3rd row is nearly useless. Both are being sold for $3K over sticker and have waiting lists. Chevy is dealing and Traverse can be had for $8K less than those two around my area. That's a big difference.
All the space is better. The rear seat is like 4" wider, making the center position actually usable. Yeah the interior looks dated, but the functionality is not. It even has wireless CarPlay/Android, unlike the Telluride. That's something we use every day. Also you can get the Traverse for thousands less than sticker. That makes it a great deal in the lower trims. And you don't have to wait a year for it.
Wow...the interior of the Traverse looks the same as an Impala we rented..... ...In 2018! If Chevy updated the interior it would definitely be my pick over the Telluride.
Update is expected to be announced soon and go into production by the end of this year. BUT first year models are always subject to more issues, and they will be full price or more and hard to get I'm sure. These are on lots now and dealers are dealing, I saved 8-10K over a Highlander or Pilot and drove it home the same day.
He says that the two vehicles have "about the same amount of space in the 2nd row, and the back..." On paper and just looking at the two, this is simply false. The Traverse is the biggest vehicle in its class. You can clearly see the Kia is more cramped in that 2nd row. The Traverse is the only car in its class that can actually accommodate adults in the 3rd row.
Palisade, Telluride, Pathfinder, 4runner, pilot and highlander all better than any american counterpart imo. We make inferior cars (not trucks) generally speaking. Sad but true.
We looked at them all and disagree. Traverse was the most spacious, comfortable, best driving and best value (at actual dealer selling price) hands down.
Several Chevy Models including the Camero, Silverado 1500, etc... are having transmission shutter problems. A close friend has a 2016 Camero and has had it in the shop 6 times for the transmission shuttering issue and they still cannot fix the problem, even the loaner Silverado 1500 had the shutter between 2000 & 2400 RPMs. The better buy is the Telluride hands down!
Not the same transmission. This one debuted in 2017 and is not used in those vehicles. That's like assuming that since some Kia engines have a tendency to self destruct due to sloppy manufacturing, and some models are very easy to steal due to cutting corners, the Telluride will have those issues too. As far as I know, it does not. As for better buy, good luck finding a Telluride in stock and/or at MSRP. Chevy dealers are dealing right now as Chevy clears inventory out before introducing the next version.
Sure, but i’d wait another year at keast for them to figure out fixes to all quirks that are yet to happen this year which is only the 2nd year for the vehicle. Never buy the model on its 1st and 2nd year of production
It has 2 cubic feet more behind the third row and 11 cubic feet more behind the second row. Not a huge difference IMO, especially behind the third row.
@@jasonbellcars The people space in the third row is quite a bit better though. The Traverse is the only mid size SUV than can come close to replacing a minivan. Putting adults back there is still an issue, though. An AWD minivan is still the way to go, I think, but my wife wants a change of pace now that the kids are older. The Traverse rides and handles better than a minivan while offering a bit better ground clearance for snow and roads to trailheads.
@@ms.p5183 in what way? Kia telluride has heated+cooled 1st and second traverse only has front, telluride has more than just plastic, Chevy doesn't, telluride has manyyyy more features than traverse...
@cooly javon well he told you at the end of the video. The traverse is more quiet. Rides better. Handles better. Is bigger in 1st, 2nd, 3rd row and behind the 3rd row, more powerful, and cheaper to buy....
@@DeeeBeee123 Totally no true. Higher octane only helps with higher compression so if the engine is not designed for it you are throwing your money away.
Id rather take the traverse, KIA is junk. Me and my wife loves our 2023 traverse RS. My neighbor has a telluride and he's been to the dealer 6 times for problems with his telluride as far as the transmission goes. We haven't had no issues with our transmission. We've been to the dealership for an oil change and thats it.
@@sui_generis2163 What ever you do don’t go to King Kia Gaithersburg . $10k markup on all Telluride trims. They all been sitting there for over 3 months LOL
I bought mine for $48K.. its still being made but there was $0 markup at the dealership i used.. for ref.. all the others within a 2 hour drive are marking them up $10k. ill wait, thanks.
That Kia Telluride is nice but I’ve always driven Chevys . What I can say is that Chevy seats are very comfortable. My kids fall asleep soon as they sit in the car .
Kia only has leatherette very bad for inhaling from your seats. Competition offers real leather. Leatherette smells like a toxic poison. I jumped out of a new one because the smell of the leatherette was so bad….
My window sticker literally says Nappa leather. It feels great and smells great. Maybe on the lower trims it’s leatherette, but not on the SX Prestige.
why compare??? Traverse is junk... look at that interior so typical lazy American automaker interior Chevy is bring the old habit ~ deceiving customer, at least they think they could.
GM spent money where it counts...size, peformance, ride/handling dynamics and noise isolation. Kia tries to impress with useless gimmicks yet is missing wireless Carplay and Android Auto. I find it kind of odd, but have to admit it's been a successful strategy for them.
