@@waltscrossfiresrt6 it's not supercharged. It has an electric motor to add power and what you may be trying to say is the turbos have a motor to start the spooling so there's no lag.
M256 (429hp/384tq) has an ISG, bolted to the crankshaft, producing 21hp/184tq. A twin scroll turbo and a small electric supercharger (AMG calls it a compressor in their literature). The ISG powers the AC and water pump so there are no belts on the front of motor. Car weights in at 4519 lb. The Sedan is very, very quick. It’s by no means the fastest in its class. I don’t believe MB was attempting to produce the fastest in its class. It’s a great blend of sport and comfort. It’s effortless to drive it fast. For its class and performance, it gets phenomenal MPG. The interior is class leading, IMHO.
It's unbelievable how fast the supra is, especially when you start modding it. I only have boltons on my 2022 (intake, charge pipe, catted downpipe, and full exhaust) while still running stock tune, and I can definitely feel it has woken this car up even more from stock. I will be taking it to the dyno again very soon to see just how much extra power the bolt on parts have given, and then go to the pure800 turbo once an unlock comes out for the 2022 ECU.
I agree. I also have a '21' and it’s an amazing car for the price. If people would just drive it for 5 minutes, (really just 1 minute) you would change your mind. In canyons it’s unflappable, Hooks up really well, incredible ZF trans.,is stupid fast, gets 32 mpg highway. I’m proud of the BMW drivetrain. It’s an epic engine.
@@wackit6756 It's because you're a smart man, and realized the incredible German engineering that the Supra has is top notch! Toyota wasn't able to build a perfect combo like the B58 paired with the ZF8 tranny! It's as good as a powertrain gets imo! So easy to make so much more power for incredibly cheap as well!👍
You’re very correct, whoever you are commenting. The car is just very lowley tuned for some reason. That car wit dat engine definitely could do much better. :) #YouLoveThePositivity ;)
Both are great cars, but I’m going to say, Mercedes is for luxury and comfort. BMW is more track focused, so you’re going to always get the performance you need.
@@germanengineering204 same here. The is500 is such an interesting car and I’d love to be in a position to own all three but for me I have to stick to my bmw ways. The b58 would take it all day. From a roll I think the Supra would be the only one to give the Lexus trouble.
@@OleMisss Don't forget these engines are greatly underrated! Honestly I think the Supra would destroy the Lexus in a roll, and the M240i would still be a bit quicker as well!
I don't care how fast that supra, but as coupe, as luxury sports coupe, it just so good. I drove e53 coupe, for a week, and I fall in love with this car. Its comfy, and luxury car, when you need to go restaurant or some business party, and it gives you enough sporty feeling when you need to go flat out on the ordinary twisty roads, it is not a geeky track car for sure, but give you enough feedback, yes it is not BMW feel, but it is good for that long coupe. And the engine sounds fantastic.
B58 FTW 💫 i have a stock 2016 340i RWD only 320hp feels like an absolute rocketship though in traffic rolling 25 mph drop to first smash the pedal shit pulls 🤯🙌
I'm just going to put this out there. These videos seem so concerned about who's getting to the finish line first on a closed course where you can go a 1/4 mile without issue. However, on the street, it's a very different story. The majority of run in's will come at the stoplight or a freeway onramp where I'd take this mercedes anyday of the week over most other cars for these situations. My gf once lined up next to me at a stoplight driving my w205 c300 and took off on my c5z and I was so far behind in 1st gear that after spinning and shifting and wheel hopping into 2nd I just gave up and took the loss.
It’s so interesting seeing everyone realizing BMW makes incredible tunes me turbo in-line 6 motors. My 2008 335i was an absolute beast and took it to everything at the drags besides a Mclaren and GTR. Took BMW years to get this engine the respect it deserves and it had to go into a “Supra” or BMW Z. I know the motors have changed a little, but my N54 twin turbo with FBO and JB4 on e85 was walking cars years ago.
Great stuff! Big fan of your channel! I really respect the Supra GR performance. My neighbor has one, and I have a Challenger Hellcat. I would love to see a race between the two, because I've been curious of the results.
@@SamCarLegion I’m so glad you got the is500!! My boss just got one two weeks ago. It’s an amazing car and will retain its value just like the ISF did. Great pick buddy.
very odd matchup but impressive non the less. Merc weight around 4429 lbs and the supra weights about 3318. I would definitely expect the supra to win everytime based off the power to weight alone.
Mercedes always over estimates the power of their amg's , I bet they dyno almost identical Supra make around 350 - 370 whp stock , the amg 53 dyno about the same maybe a little less.
I'm kind of surprised the E53 didn't win from a roll, my stock B9 S4 (just an intake) pulls on new supras pretty hard, especially from a roll, it's not even close.
@@SamCarLegion I've always hear you give the Supra nothing but praise 🙌 I remember how blown away you were by its performance when it went up against the M240i xdrive!👍
Do the race again but this time with the 840i and this E53(I know that sounds unfair). M850i would destroy this E53. I want to see how would the non M performance model fares with the E53 AMG.
Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. (BABVVO law)!!!!!!!
The B58 is in every regard better than the Merc Inline 6. Also, it’s worth mentioning that the B58 in the Supra is making way more than 382 hp, it’s making that at the wheels.
@@limitedreach4446 I doubt it, raced tons of supras in my B9 S4, walked every single one, from a roll it's not even close, all I have is an intake on my S4 too, not even tuned. no way is a supra making 382 wheel, not even close.
@@awhs5435 Old b58, or revised b58 supras? I think the older ones only have 370-380hp at the crank. The newer ones should have that much power at the wheels. Such a huge jump for a revised motor for the same car.
@@2010ngojo you dont just go from 370 crank to 370 wheel hp with a few mods man lmao, thats over a 200+ HP gain on the crank, thats an entirely new engine....its weird how people think you just need to do a few tweaks and boom, you just gained 200hp crank, thats not how it works
@@SamCarLegion haha i know, just wanted to point that out 😉, you got to remember though, the c43 is less powered than the e53 although it is lighter. I've raced my m240 against a c43 both ST2 and was pulling lengths on him, though thats another story as they're tuned.
Dont see the point of a supercharged and turbo changed 6 cylinder engine Mercedes gets 400 plus hp out of a 4 cylinder turbo ... either drop the turbo or drop the SC or put another 100hp to justify this train reck of a motor
