And on top of that I feel like the “normal cars” are more entertaining to watch because they cars are everywhere so it’s fun to watch which car is faster
I was surprised at the result. I figured the lighter vehicle with roughly the same spec motor would for sure have it every time. That Nissan CVT often gets underestimated by people because its so smooth. But it actually performs quite well. And the reliability issues of years past have clearly been fixed.
Well said Elizabeth, I often have to remind people that every other manufacturer, except Mazda, has switched to CVTs, so Nissan was obviously onto something all those years ago.
The 3 should be slightly faster, the only thing the Altima had going for it was the Awd, if the surface was a little slick and not dry, otherwise the awd weight and the cvt are more a detriment.
@@occckid123 Wow that is a good bit of a difference in weight for awd. I do wonder if a sport mode would had helped. A buddy of mine with a mild tune, fwd altima, is decently quick.
@@priapicpear4200 the issue is the altima is programmed funny from around that 30-35mph. It kinda goes into a fake 3rd gear when you floor it for some reason instead of going into a fake 2nd gear. I'm not sure why they did this bit there are ways around it that you can do 2 get it to move much more quickly then just flooring the gas pedal because that's not going 2 get you the good start you need. Releasing the pedal after you floor it and punching it again will get the transmission to go into the fake 2nd gear raising the rpm much more quickly. The next thing is using the L mode to get that initial punch you need and putting it back into drive after that will make the car leap forward. 3rd would be using the manual mode to lock it into 1at or 2nd fake gear for instant response. 4th would be using the sport mode 2 raise the rpm. If your are aggressive with the gas pedal it will lock into a higher ratio so when you slow down to around 30-35 then punch it the car would give you high rpm much more quickly.
Not sure if this is the case here but I do know that some cars get different features in different countries, so maybe the Altima in Canada doesn’t have one 🤷🏽♂️
That was awesome Sam! From the exhaust revs to the exciting races on average daily vehicles, this is the car channel for everyone! You're fulfilling the dreams of these car owners when everyone else is only racing cars that's above 95% of the peoples' budget 😆 Keep up the great videos!
LOL..Sam for the Nissan Altima there is a sport mode button. is located right below the shift knob so when is activated it would show Ds on the digital cluster. So I think we need a second run😅
I own a 21 Sentra SR and it has a Sport button right on the back of the shifter, so me assuming that Nissan does almost every interior the same for all models, that Altima should have that button on the same spot as my Sentra. It does improve throttle response a bit and a tad bit quicker simulated shifts.
Tcs should’ve been off in the Altima, it would’ve launched better… also the Altima does have a sport mode it’s just kinda hidden on the shifter itself. For the roll race the guy in the Altima had a horrible reaction and i doubt the car was in sport mode which means the revs were probably low
if you have the exact same altima but without a cvt, the cvt altima will be faster because it doesn’t delay when switching gears. cvts accelerate quicker when they don’t do the simulated shifting.
The Accord takes those three cars. The races are on YT already. And I had a 2017 Maxima Platinum and now a 21 Accord 2.0t Touring. The Accord is definitely quicker. The Maxima has more to give but held back by the CVT.
@Frank Dux I love my car bro, just got my pink slip yesterday .. I get so many compliments on the looks and everyone who I let drive it think it's the faster thing ever lol
@@brenttitus2134 I've heard to same thing bro . Idk , ima have to drive a 2.0t Or race one to see for myself.. everytime I try to race a 2.0t.. they don't budge . Lol
@Frank Dux I had to many issues with mine when we bought it brand new. Border line lemon. But, when everything worked. It’s a nice car and good looking.
Why is he surprised that the Nissan lost !? It's heavier and has less power ..... Your comparison sucks , Altima in my eyes with the disadvantage performed really well ! Just show's how much the CVT has improved !
PS: I want to point out that the Altima SR has paddle shifters. So even thought the CVT does not have gears the driver could have easily "downshifted" for the roll race like the Mazda driver did. I have no idea why it wasnt done.
The main issue I see here is you didn't turn on sport mode in the altima when doing so in the mazda 3. Also, the m3 is a compact car, whereas the Altima is a mid size. It probably has 300-400 extra pounds of weight on it. Should have been compared to the mazda 6 which is actually what it competes against in the market.
Mazda 6 has been discontinued for a while now. The Altima is not much bigger than the Mazda3 sedan. It's 9inches longer in length. Now the hatchback 3 is a 1.5ft shorter than the Altima.
Should've used the paddle shifters on the altima to take off better? Why not? Also if you're just flooring it you actually have to double tap the pedal to get the trans 2 downshift into a lower ratio because for some reason when you floor it from that speed the rpms go to about 2800 and rises from there but you just have 2 know how to work the car. Also the sr weighs the car down with heavy wheels and the awd is heavier not helping but definitely he should've locked into a lower ration. That's his fault for not doing it correctly. In my 19 I just start it off in L mode so the rpms are slightly higher then throw it back in drive right after the hit and the car lunges forward.
Ive owned 3 Altima's in the past including this Gen. and ive never had an issue with any one them..ZERO! I have a Truck now but see people posting stuff like this and oh well. Kia Fires too so whatever man.
Good race. I never had a good impression of the Altima mainly because of the drivers I see here in the Midwest. They always drive like their driving a GT-R, and then I see so many rental Altima’s with damaged panels. I thought the Charger and Challenger drivers here are bad, but it’s the Altima drivers that’s on another level.
Thank you. That shit is not happening. Besides that I can set my shifts. A feature a lot of people don't know about and how it works. Especially in the all wheel drive sr.
Dude I’m a CVT owner of a 2019 sr Altima , I have a k&n intake .. resonator delete with 5inch tips . Not to stock but my guy you could’ve did much better if you found the sport mode .. you could’ve down shifted down to bout the 5th gear you would’ve caught em easy . I might tell you a joke but I’ll never tell you a lie
Its crazy how many people, especially reviewers in the industry, don't know that Nissans do have a sports mode. Back then, Chevy's were "hidden," but everyone still knew about it. Ive only had my Maxima since July & I knew right off the bat it gad it & where it was, which is the case with all of them.
I dont think so. The sentra is in a class of it's own, mazda doesnt make a car that size. The mazda 3 competes with the altima and the mazda 6 competes with the maxima
@@cartersmrke6754 Have you seen the new Sentra, its a lot bigger, and pretty much the same size as the 3, only thing is Nissan needs to put back tissue 2.5 engine back in a version of it.

Mazda default throttle configuration is set to save gas. use throttle controller in the mazda and you'll see how much everything changes. (well , fuel consumption too :) )
Sorry but I’m not agree with u, because CVT It’s a continuously variable transmission which helps engine a lot in to reduce pressure on engine and not to be broken, second it changes gear fast… I have been using CVT car for son long, so far sooooo good.
@@tyrelhornesbyth I as well had an Altima.. Ive owned 3. (04' 16' 19") I had ZERO issues with mines all the years i had them. I just traded for a Truck cause of my business. But they were good cars. See people post that stuff but i know people with worse cars.
@@Blue-moon12 Yes it was a V6 bro ...that thing jerked a little when it shifted and It seem like it took forever just to hit 0-60 compared to my maxima .
I don't know why they didn't use an awd model mazda, would probably walk the Nissan everytime but decided to handicap it by racing awd vs fwd... I guess it wouldn't be fair to the Nissan? 🤔
