Thanks Topher for being the ONLY reviewer to actually speak about the Fender sound system..Every time I drive any car/truck I always listen to my music( like most people) and yet no other reviewers ever talk about the sound system.
Interesting that the P4X has three package options. The tech pac, the convenience pac and the premium pac. Unlike the P4X in the past they all got the RF audio system upgrade. However, to get the fender system here you have to get all three packages. Fender only on the prem pac. Don't let Nissan fool you. A fully loaded P4X now costs 43K not including destination fee. Yeah, 6 thousand more now.
@@InstinctiveFirearmReviews yeah they basically took it from Ford's playbook if you want to get the B&O system on the ranger you basically have to get a loaded lariat and you're looking at $45,000 up.
@@HiPlains1 Disgusting. It's also not easy to get a good sound system aftermarket costs alot as well. Gm did it best with Sun and sound package for years where you got sunroof and Bose audio
Nissan rules- Fully boxed frame, great engine, made in USA, good value. I own a 2015 Xterra Pro-4X with 82,000 miles. Only two small warranty issues in almost seven years. Been through blizzards and 115 degree Las Vegas summers.
made in USA... precisely why i would choose 4runner every time for an off roader. and if i had to have a truck it would still be toyota, though then im forced with US build quality. i love nissans engines but they make the worst cars these days.
I'm more interested to see how long the 3.8l engine with the new 9 speed transmission lasts compared to the last 4.0l engine with 5 speed transmission. This new transmission design came from Mercedes, but it is built by Jatco.
I’m glad that smaller trucks are making a comeback. I love having the practicality of a truck bed and a trailer hitch, but I hate driving huge vehicles.
@@scottprewitt4712 New ones to be specific... Any bubble (99-03) F-150 or 1st gen Tundra would match or even slightly be dwarfed by the Frontier as far as size goes... Trust me...
@@fortcrafterbossbehold9027 Well yeah, that's the case for any new vehicle. They've all grown, trucks and cars alike. But see I wouldn't mind driving a tundra or f-150 from 20 years ago because it was a reasonable size. But now it's the "mid-size" segment that hits the sweet spot for me while the tundra and f-150 have turned into massive land yachts. It's also nice to see Ford and Hyundai putting effort into a compact segment. Neither the maverick or Santa cruz speaks to me but it gives me hope for more options in that segment down the line.
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 Yeah I hope they bring that one to the states. I know the dealers are asking for it. Its a mid size body on frame that could compete well with the 4 runner for allot less money. Most likely they will just keep the current pathfinder for the NA market. And that just not very off road worthy IMO.
They never did on their trucks and large SUVs like the Armada/QX80 and are moving away in midsize SUVS like the Pathfinder/QX60. It has been hugely refined in their sedans as well.
Nice. I love this thing. Just right size, great looks and based on past experience, it should be reliable. Keep it up Nissan. Also, you know the time is perfect for an Xterra reboot. Give it front and rear lockers and create a new legend.
Nice to see a new vehicle that has not grown significantly in size compared to last generation. I dig it; not a show-stopper and improvements were focused on its utility + suspension. Seems like the interior design is pretty similar to the old one, but with updated infotainment/connectivity and good build quality.
@@beforedawn1131 what? whats your definition of updated interior? A tesla looking one? Tbh Its really perfect for a pick up truck, everything seems very functional and handy. I honestly love this instead of over design and over technology
I appreciate the little comments about the AC "coldness" and road noise etc. Never been a fan of the Frontier as a family member has a 2004 (Piece of junk) and often wondered how they complete with the Tacoma and other offerings. This is the first review of the Frontier that is making me take a second look, so great job! (Subscribed!) I would want to know how this truck competes with the new Chevy Colorado ZR2? Thanks for the review and talking about the little talked about issues like AC strength! (Here in Phoenix, that's a BIG DEAL!)
Just got the sv (in green!) and i absolutely love it. First time driving a truck. I’ve had 2 Altima’s and said my last one would be my last Nissan. I then drove th SV and loved it!
I just traded my 2019 Ranger FX4 for the new Pro4X in Canyon Boulder Gray. So far, I love this truck. It's light years ahead of the Ranger and that's a pretty good truck. I was concerned about the air conditioning after watching this review, but it is ice cold in the extreme heat and humidity here in NC. If anyone is in the market for a midsize truck I would highly recommend test driving the Frontier.
@josephchambers2928 I would recommend the Frontier, but you should drive both with equal trim levels. My Frontier is also a higher trim level than my former Ranger, but the sticker price was roughly the same. I'm not sure a higher trim level would make a huge difference on the Ranger unless they've changed their interior since 2019. There was a lot more plastic and it was hard to see the buttons and switches at night. The Frontier also has some switches to the left of the steering column that can be difficult to see, but they're not switches that are needed very often. The turning radius on the Ranger is better. There's also the auto start/stop on the Ranger which was really annoying. It has to be turned off every time the truck is started. Real world fuel economy is about the same or maybe very slightly better on the Ranger. I like the naturally aspirated engine better than the turbo. If you need more towing and payload capacity the Ranger would definitely be your truck. Imo, the Frontier is a better looking truck, but that's subjective.
Seems quite nice that Nissan has kept their newest Frontier very truck-like & traditional! Most Bilstein dampers + suspension systems are pretty spot on with tuning. And a pretty decent price point for a top-spec off road version. Me myself I'm a "power" hound so I love my 2020 Ford Ranger. I wish I could've gotten the four full door super crew version as I feel my Super Cab's bolt upright rear seats & rear seat legroom are a joke so for me it's just extra "stash" space and lockable inside storage, lol. The newest Nissan Frontier kind of reminds me of my Ranger in the cab. My cab is quite traditional too (which I vastly prefer) with lots of knob + actual physical controls. My "non-FX4" 4x4 suspension is my biggest gripe with my truck. On good roads = great. But on rough roads = bouncy, bouncy, bouncy. I'll likely upgrade to Fox, Old Man Emu or BDS suspension, shocks for some better ride/damping. I love the gas mileage from my 2.3 liter EcoBoost four cylinder turbo though! I average 22-24 MPG in "mixed" work/daily driving & have gotten as high as 27.5 MPG hand calculated on the freeway. I have so far installed a Mishimoto cold air intake system with dry, "non-oiled" synthetic media cone filter, a Mountune Performance heavy-duty, high performance intercooler to help combat heatsoak issues a common Achilles Heel of the EcoBoost engines as well as an AWE Tuning 0FG 3 inch stainless steel exhaust system. This trio has provided a very good power increase as EcoBoost engines always seem to respond to most mods very well! Soon to go on it are some colder heat range pregapped iridium spark plugs, some high energy Pertronix ignition coils with some custom tunes from Livernois Motorsports. I can't wait!
Love this revival, didn't expect it from Nissan, frontier is always underrated for price used they beat the Tacoma much cheaper. Looks good reliable, I have no issues with this. Not as unique but it has its' Nissan place. competition is good, for Nissan price is key
I really appreciate you not jumping on the “it’s no Tacoma” wagon. I can’t stand the fan boy attention the Tacoma’s get, they are great trucks but if this truck doesn’t prove that Nissan is serious then you’re not experiencing it yourself and shouldn’t comment on the new frontiers ability to compete.
I wish it was still being offered in a manual. The downside with toyota is they under power their vehicles.. So freaking boring. At least nissan put some power on that v6. Toyota had a 4.5 or 4.3 litter v8 that could've been perfect on the taco.. Freaking assholes lol. It could also be the stupid EPA ruining everything.
Do you think similar driver Subaru wrx? I mean not accelation driving noise feel road(pothole, bump). Did you feel 4000 rpm? Driving 40-50-60 did you feel noise. I have stock wrx driving almost 6 years. You know wrx very noisy car.
Like it a lot. Need a King Cab version though. Glad Nissan didn't go crazy with too much tech and stayed away from turbocharging. I really like Nissan kept the hydraulic steering and very glad they kept the seat higher than the Tacoma. The only negative I heard is some gear hunting with the 9 speed auto and no improvement to the turning radius. Still I will buy one. It'll be my 4th Frontier.
@@tenncutt No I'm not sure. All of mine had the 125.9"wheelbase with a 43.3' turning diameter. There was an even longer wheelbase crew cab standard (or long) bed. Car and Driver says the 2022 has a 126" wheelbase and a 43.3' turning radius. It appears virtually identical but I haven't verified those numbers. I have truly enjoyed all three of mine. The 2nd one (2009) had a slightly leaky driver's side backdoor (suicide door) but only in a carwash. Ironically the 1st one (2005) never developed the first rattle or squeak. I've driven all of them regularly on deeply rutted logging roads and didn't baby them.
Hi @TheTopher. That review makes me have second guests on my pick, which is a Sport S Wrangler. As you know, the semi-conductors shortage makes it quite difficult to get a Wrangler order in Canada (ordered mine in April, still no VIN). Chances are, according to my dealer, that my order will simply be cancelled. My second option was to pick a used Tacoma but prices are "too dam'high" for a truck that's not on warranty anymore. You reckon that new Frontier would do it?
The tire claim about the Hankook’s being designed for the Nissan frontier is slightly misleading. Those Hankook’s are OE applications on several different Trucks.
As quiet as this truck was when you were driving makes me think this is the new Infiniti Frontier. I really hope this truck and the new Z save nissan's ass. if they completely got rid of that horrible CVT the road for them would be infinitely easier.
I'm looking at buying a new truck. I don't need a full size so I've been shopping midsize. I honestly didn't like the Tacoma and I can't wait to test drive this Nissan.
3:00 I don't think those are drain holes in the bed floor. I believe they are mounting points for tie-down rails. My previous gen Frontier had floor mounted rails from the factory, but the redesign doesn't have them for some reason.
The grunting noises you made while showing the turning radius was stupid. Picked up mine this morning (in Baja Storm Pearl} and it turns fine. Good review anyway. Just lay off the sound effects, you made the turn just fine!
This is an interesting video to watch. I'm blown away at how quickly the transmission shifts from sub-2000 RPMs to over 4000RPM. I'm assuming this is why the fuel economy is terrible. A lot of this seems to be the result of erratic driver input to gas pedal. Curious to see where tranmission operates at 75MPH, which would be highway driving for most. Not sure I like an engine that is constantly revving to 7000RPM. Seems like these turbo 4 cylinders that make torque at lower RPMs might be a better idea for long term reliability.
Hi Topher I just got my 2022 Frontier, i want to know if there a way to switch the fuel stats, like (normal, to eco, and sport) thats if it has it. Thank you.
In my town I saw a 2018 Tacoma TRD Off Road for sale for 40K. WTH?! I will get the new Frontier PRO over that. I drive a Taco btw lol this truck looks good.
Nice truck! It’s a shame the safety features aren’t standard and cost an extra $1000. I know this is the top of the line Frontier but something about paying almost $45000 for a mid size truck doesn’t sit right with me. Guess I’m getting old. Haha
Looks great and sounds good. The steering wheel a little dated which annoys me because it’s lazy on Nissan’s part. The turning radius does concern me a little
Couldn't they find a more modern looking steering wheel than the one from the 2011 Nissan Quest? A 2022 truck with a 10 years old steering wheel isn't great. They could have use the one from the new Pathfinder no?
@@SylasG Well they changed some little details, but the general shape is pretty much the same and it has the exact same button layout. The point is that it still looks like a steering wheel from 2011.
Well.... I like it but the up right rear seat is a deal breaker for me (my kids have gotten big). I'll keep my 2010 (which is a great truck) and look elsewhere when I decide to buy. Thanks for the video.
bruh even with the highest trim, you still get to see those blanks but all in all looks very good. Time will tell how its gonna hold up compared to Tacoma or other GM one
Its weird because I went on the official nissan website to make myself one, I selected it with a bedliner, power outlet and the utiliti-trak but it says I cant get the bedliner with the utility track system, somene explain?..
