Totally agree regarding simplicity, especially with a truck. The 3.8 liter naturally aspirated engine was a great choice (vs. a small displacement 4-turbo engine which would wear out faster). I am also glad Nissan still uses analog gauges and a traditional shifter lever (vs. digital gauges and a push button or rotary dial shifter).

I’ll never go back to Nissan after they screwed so many people over with their scam Of a settlement on the class action lawsuit from the 2005-2010 xterra, pathfinder, and frontiers that all had the same radiator fluid problem leaking into the transmission. The “settlement” was criminal. Renault destroyed that reliable Japanese aspect of Nissan. I have a 4runner now and will never buy anything other than Toyota. That’s if I ever need to buy another truck. The 4runners are bulletproof. The dealership I bought it from stand behind Toyota engineering so much they give full LIFETIME warranties on the engine and transmission.

The Tacoma has been in my family for generation's, they really hold there value over time and are super reliable. The 2022 Nissan Frontier Pro 4x is a great addition to the new mid size truck line. Love how aggressive it looks almost similar to a Ford Raptor. I guess we will see in time how incredibly reliable these engines hold up compared to the nearly bullet proof 4 cylinder & V6 Toyota Engine.

Yeah but you’re talking about the 1st and 2nd gen Tacoma’s. I just traded mine for the new pro4x. The resale was great and the drivetrain would have gone forever, but dam that truck would have beat me to death forever too. @@hothmobile100 the manual transmission isn't exactly "ahead." More manufacturers are eliminating them because they are a niche item today. In most cases (including Tacoma) they account for less than 5% of sales. Toyota also makes its name in reliability. A lot of that comes from being behind, not "light-years ahead." Examples: the 2020 Tacoma was the first Tacoma to offer power adjusting seats or Android Auto/Apple Car Play. The 2021 Tacoma base model still doesn't have intermittent windshield wipers standard.

Great review Joe! Love the truck! It is so much nicer than my 2016 Tacoma TRD Sport. Never thought I would say that. I have been driving a Tacoma for 16 yrs. I will be trying to find a Pro-4X asap! The best thing I can say about my Taco is resale value. KKB has it's trade in value exactly what I paid for it five years ago. Crazy.

Best Review Yet! I’ve been excited about this truck. It looks fantastic inside and out. The biggest item / dealbreaker might be that it doesn’t have wireless Apple Play. I’m a musician and I’m always checking RU-vid and Instagram. I’d be plugging my phone in a dozen times a day and having to deal with the cord as well. Also no lumbar bubble for the driver and manual passenger seat adjustments kind of cheapen the truck, especially the top model. I still might consider it though???

Only way this Nissan is going to be better than a Toyota Tacoma, is if it uses a completely different CVT than Nissan's usual one. There's a reason why a bunch of other car brands use Toyota's CVT (and why no one else uses Nissan's).

@tobyvision

@@TexasNativee I have hope for the engine at least. V6 design was always Nissan's ace in the hole. And to be honest, the NA engine is the strongest selling point for this truck for me. This is probably the last generation of these we will see in the USA.

I'm sure I am in the minority here but I still prefer the prop rod under the hood. In my eyes, it's just one less part I will have to eventually replace. I'm sure prop rods can fail but it's yet to happen to me. As far as the Pro-4X goes, it looks really nice. I'm a big fan of Tacoma but I definitely see this as a potential contender. For those of us not married to a brand, Nissan may just be the new option.
@kevdog1298

Hydraulic struts lasted in my Toyota for about 18 years. Either way it’s like $40 to replace them so definitely way better than having the prop rods in the way.

@@kevdog1298 Well, it’s Toyota reliability for you that’s why they lasted 18 years or more if you take care of them 😂 I’m not sure about the new Nissan Frontier though and how the new trucks will perform in long terms of ownership. 🤞☘️
