This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2022 Nissan pathfinder 3-row SUV. 35 years ago Nissan introduced us to the Pathfinder. This new model shares some similarities to the original model and it’s not a coincidence. Nissan’s goal was to capture the spirit of the original Pathfinder and create a strong design. Nissan strengthened the silhouette and made the front end more upright with a straighter and flatter hood creating a simple yet bold look. It has a boxy design with faired fenders or what Nissan calls blister fenders. The V-Motion Grille has a squarer style to make it look more modern and Nissan modified the boomerang LED headlights to give this Pathfinder a stronger exterior design. The backend looks sharp with the bold script across the boxy tailgate and the addition of slimmer taillights. For the first time, Nissan is offering a two-tone paint scheme. Nissan says, they closely analyzed every angle to make this vehicle as versatile as possible while also delivering on rugged capability. The Pathfinder has a 3.5L V6 engine with a 9 speed automatic transmission, 284 horsepower and 259 lb-ft of torque. 4WD is standard in Canada. 2WD and 4WD models are available in the US. Some standard exterior features include, LED headlights and LED taillights, 18” wheels, and black roof rails. One up from the base model will get you the motion-activated power liftgate and two up from the base, silver roof rails and tilt down power mirrors. The top two trims come standard with 20” wheels. Blind spot monitoring and rear-cross traffic alert are standard. Thanks to the additional interior volume, the Pathfinder offers easier cargo and family loading and many other everyday utility benefits. There’s room for up to 8-passengers, space for up to three car seats in the second row and two in the third row. Available captain’s chairs, a first on the Pathfinder and a removable console, no tools needed allowing items up to 7 inches wide to pass between the seats. There’s also easier entry/exit from the 3rd row with one touch seating which pitches the seat forward to provide a wide opening from the driver or passenger side even with a car seat attached.
The captain’s chairs are only available on the top trim. There is two additional inches of front seat legroom, now best in class and 5 inches of third row hip room. The Pathfinder was designed to take 4 golf bags and with all the seats down, it’s large enough for a 4x8 sheet of plywood. There is 1” more overall cargo capacity from the outgoing model. The Pathfinder comes standard with an 8” touchscreen, 7” driver display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, cloth seats, heated front seats, 10-way power driver’s seat with 2-way lumbar support, a leather heated steering wheel and piano black interior trim. One up from the base model comes standard with a motion activated power liftgate, panoramic sunroof, ProPilot Assist and a third row reclining bench.We've picked the SL trim as the “best value trim” two up from the base model for an extra $6,600. It comes with the bigger 9” touchscreen, ProPilot with Navigation, driver seat memory, 12-way power drivers seat, leather appointed seats, heated second row seats, metallic brushed trim instead of piano black trim, wireless Apple Carplay, panoramic sunroof and a motion activated power tailgate.The top trim will get you some extra features like captain’s chairs, a 12.3” digital driver display, ambient lighting, quilted leather appointed seats, ventilated front seats, bronze metallic brushed interior a head-up display, wireless charger and a 13-speaker Bose sound system.

Sadly, can't say the same for the luxury brand Infiniti. Besides the new QX60, no new products for at least another 2 years for dealers. Plus allowing Nissan dealers to consolidate their Infinity dealership on the same Nissan dealership property in Canada.

Much improved over the old model. These will definetly sell more if they can push the new transmission into ads. Also the SL does get the heads-up display as well

Thanks for another great review. Just couple of points I would like to mention: 1. The push button to move second row seat is locked when 30lbs or more on the seat. That’s a great feature. 2. Headroom in the third row is better than Telluride. I am 5.10 and my head touches the top in the 3rd row in the Telluride but Pathfinder gives me couple of inches more. Which feels great. 3. 6000lbs towing capacity is better than Palisade and Telluride. Great for camping. 3. I feel SV offers the most value of all the trims. Factory fitted trailer hitch receiver, panoramic moonroof, 360 degree rear parking view are impossible to get at this price point. I booked SV yesterday 🤩

There are two contraptions ever installed in a car that drives me absolutely insane; the Auto Start/Stop feature and the CVT 🤬 I'm glad Nissan wizened up and got rid of it from the Pathfinder. One thing like someone mentioned, Nissan needs to tell people in their ads that the CVT is gone from this model and people will flock back to the showrooms to get their hands on this beauty.

I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 225,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.

I’ve always loved the stylistic lettering on the rear hatches of Range Rovers. But this latest styling trend is being ridiculously overused. Although it may be preferable on a grand touring luxury SUV... lately it has been ‘watered down’ to the point of it being overused, outdated and somewhat generic looking. “Styles change. True style never changes” - Bill Blass (U.S. Fashion designer). Thanks for another entertaining video to start the week with. Well done guys! Have a pleasant flight back ... eh.

Test drove a fully-loaded 2022 Nissan Pathfinder and fully-loaded 2022 Kia Telluride here in the US yesterday. I own a 2017 Pathfinder, purchased new from my local dealer. So far so good with 70k miles on it. They only unexpected repair was the cooling fan on the engine. Bearings went bad on the fan and my Pathfinder sounded like an old diesel truck. If this new non CVT pans out to be reliable, I may purchase a new one in a year or so.
@stewartc1981
@stewartc1981 3 года назад
Everyone I know with the last model of Pathfinder had the fan bearings go. I managed to replace it myself with a $237CAD unit from Rock Auto, after watching a few RU-vid videos. The first thing to go on our 2015 was the CVT. Started shuddering within the first year. It has been fine since, but it makes me trigger happy to buy a different vehicle. We also had to replace the rear floor (because the lift handle wouldn't stay down), the passenger seat headrest (because the leather came loose at the bottom), the plastic under the roof rails (because weather stripping was dangling from underneath), and all 4 aluminum wheels (the clear finish pocked after one winter). I hope you don't run into the same issues I did.

Having jerky acceleration and confused deceleration is much worse than having CVT. I know CVTs aren't reliable but this one is still questionable. It's better to wait it out for a year or two before thinking of buying this. I've had so much reliability issues on the previous generation on top of its transmission. The built quality was way below the standards of other Japanese brands.

I need a comfortable road trip family SuV, so I will need to pass if Pathfinder drives like a truck and can feel every bump. If the styling is this nice and is marketing as family suv, it should drive with some comfort. The cost of SUVs are astronomical so there are some ticky-tack options that should be included like auto tailgate, passenger seat height adjustment, etc. Thats a bummer its a truck drive cuz the styling and interior set up is exactly what I am looking for.

I do love the design. You definitely lucky in getting different vehicles. My choices that is available here: First choice: Ford Everest, would take either the 2.2 or 2.0, because the only thing the 3.2 offers is better towing capacity, and all are diesels. Now comes the which one to go for. 2. Isuzu M-UX, basically was the previous Chevrolet Trailblazer, amd only comes in a 3.0 diesel. 3. Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, comes in 3 specs with a 2.4 diesel. 4. Hyundai Santa Fe with its 2.2 diesel, 5. Kia Sorento also with on a 2.2 diesel and different spec levels. I definitely want the rugged look, and don't even try me vibes the Ford and Isuzu give. The Hyundai is the gentleman look of them all, while Mitsubishi gives you a striking and aggressive look. The only Nissan with 7 seats I could find here, is currently the Patrol. Design has dated, but the design still says, I will return the favor to step on your toes. The vehicles I chose, are the size of the Ford Ranger, for comparison, as this looks like it would fit in that category. Out of my choices, the Kia and Hyundai are the only versions I haven't had the opportunity to drive. If you need car like handling, the Ford. If you want a never say die engine and performance isn't important, Isuzu is the way to go. If a sportier drive is priority, Mitsubishi. The other 2 I can't say, as I haven't driven them as yet. Then again, this will be larger vehicles where you need to know how yo park, or you will struggle to get out when sandwiched in at a parking bay. (F150 will be in 2 parking bays because of the width. Great review, once again.

Nissan is the best to make most stylished, fashionable looking Japanese auto manufacturer, bt not into reliable brands due to its non durable CVT. Ttrying too modern is no good. Now Nissan's elegant look & reliability wld be big key point 👍

Pffft, that sounds like a Fargo character in Ontario too! His take is quite odd. I knew something was up with his generalization about how Mazda is pronounced by Canadians.
@tlevans62

@@FasterThanSoup it is pronounced differently in Canada because Mazda TV and radio ads pronounce it like that in Canada. No idea why, but it's Canada wide.

@@tlevans62 Fair play. But, suggesting that everyone from Ontario speaks like a McKenzie brother is way, way off. I know because I live in southern Ontario and when we hear that accent, we think of older Anglo Canadians, East-coasters, hosers, and Fargo. Additionally, I'm no linguist, but even I can hear Zack often uses a stretched and emphasized short 'a' sound like he's opening his mouth wider, to say that first syllable. This is unlike the ads that I've seen that use a quick and deemphasized short 'a' sound - less mouth opening. It doesn't really matter. There is no right or wrong way when we account for regionality, background, how English was learned, and the influences. But, these things are important if you are going to say that a whole province of people or an entire country speak the same way when it is simply and demonstrably untrue.

@@FasterThanSoup I think people are becoming too precious and turning into snowflakes. I grew up in Vancouver and was always told by my cousins in the East that I sounded like a "yank", so it's just a bit of friendly banter. I didn't sculk off wounded to my soul. And as far as the pronunciation of "Mazda" goes, it's a common issue between most Canadian and US car reviewers and they're not alone in mentioning it. Everyone is "offended" these days... It's time for us to grow up and put away our boxes of kleenex and find some serious issues to worry about rather than this nonsense.

You lost me at ZF9 transmission. Probably the only transmission worse than a CVT. Ok, maybe not CVT bad, but it's certainly flawed. I had one in an Acura I leased and after 4 years with it, worse transmission I've ever owned. It's rough, it'll never be smooth because of how the dog clutches work.
