Kia will never make a V6 that can top the bulletproof Nissan VQ

As a tech for a local Infiniti dealer, the day when the final Jatco CVT is no longer on the road can’t come soon enough. Lol

When this thing was released a few months back, I knew it would be the turning point of my bad opinion of Nissan. It literally fixes most things that we hated about Nissan. Its good to see a brand listening and making a competitive product again.

Savage geese quickly because my favorite car reviewers. Mostly because all of their B-roll looks like it is a blooper (in the best way imaginable). But when Jack leaped from the car before he knew what that ribbon was about KILLED me! These guys are brilliant

I really like it, it's out there trying to insist it's the best at everything, and it never is, but it cares about what you care about and it really shows.

What i love about this channel out of all reviewers i watch, they actually look under the car, and test the entertainment system. And just review the quality of the vehicle.

We just put a transmission in my wife's '14 Rogue at 70k miles so seeing the shift away from cvt's is a huuuuge plus over the old Pathfinder.

I’ve had my 2022 Pathfinder SL premium for close to 5 months, very happy with it. It’s been a dream to drive on road trips and gas mileage is good for the size of the car. The infotainment system is simple but works without any issues. There are convenient features I like: wireless Apple car play, remote start on the key fob, car seat friendly tilt, wireless charger, Wi-Fi hotspot, and more. I’m very impressed with this car.

I’m three months in on a platinum, agreed with the climate control and infotainment comments. But it is comfortable and much faster than the 2013 I sold.

Thanks savage, i have 22 Pathfinder and traded in my 16 Pathfinder, this new is like a luxury suv compared to the older CVT models. Drives alot quieter and comfortable.

1. The transmission skips out into neutral. 2. The hvac controls skips out. Mainly the blower. 3. The infotainment system freezes. 4. The front cowl under the wiper blades is an afterthought. Foam corners and such. 5. The air filter gets very dirty fast.

The 3.5 has been used for years from Nissan and for good reason. Its a great engine. Plus they gave you a traditional transmission? Way to go! I have always been a fan of Nissan and our 16 maxima sr still feels amazing after 5 years

Personally, the thing that impressed me most in the whole video was Mark's X-Country Ribbon

Thanks for doing this review, you included a lot of information many of the others missed! I test drove one today and I have to say that aside from the history of the Nissan Pathfinder as one the the first classic Japanese SUVs in the US, the drivetrain and the off-road “capability” are what draw me. I do have a family and dogs to haul around, but I want the car to be a little bit fun too. I hope the fix the issues in the next iteration, I will be ready to buy.

Love the channel! Ive owned a 21 Platinum since July. The one thing i differ with you on is the infotainment/gauge cluster. You never tapped the button on the steering wheel to change the gauge cluster View. It would have taken the round tach and speedo gauges out and sent them to the side with a more robust View. It also has full map in gauge cluster when you're in navigation mode and tremendous amount of additional information that is valuable and logically oriented in the modified gauge view. Great review guys. Excellent!

Nice move Nissan. Removing the CVT is the best decision you could make. Premium vehicles can’t have a CVT.

They could have used all the transmissions in the world to replace their Jatco CVT, but it had to be the same one used by the Jeep Renegade. They went from glass transmissions to plastic.

I agree 👍 Being an owner of a rare factory optioned Pathfinder V8 that was available from 2008 to 2012. There's something strange, magical, and a little perverse stuffing that Armada 5.6 into its smaller sibling 🤔 This torque monster runs like Crazy Eddie on crack 🤯 Its smaller platform makes it nimble, precise, and very maneuverable. With about 160k on the clock, it's been very reliable 👌

Thanks for doing regular vehicles too, gents. Overall I liked this vehicle - drove it as a rental. Pretty nice overall! quiet, drove OK for a tank. Though agree w Jack - not greatest seats for my body.

I think for what it is, it's pretty good. Not crazy about all the black like you guys but physical controls are always a plus.

Nissan can't kill their current gen CVT quick enough. My wife's inlaw gifted us an SV trim level Sentra, and even with the cost of ownership completely removed from the equation, the CVT technology makes think about leaving the thing running with the windows down in a busy parking lot nearly every time I have to drive it.

Very attractive and comfortable . Would indeed choose it over its rivals. Kia and hyundai are out due to their recent recall history over serious engine issues and fires.

Not a segment I have any interest in, but I feel confident recommending one of these having watched. Nissan included everything you'd want without gimmicks, and no CVT.

Most detailed reviewers online, agree with your opinions, own 2023 Nissan pathfinder SL 4WD, 8000 miles in again agree, V6, tech, comfort, styling has grown on me, very impressed overall. Three competitors are all over the road, like the exclusivity of the Pathfinder and “off-road pedigree.”

Very good review - fair, realistic and unbiased. Even better sum up at the end - no car is perfect and all cars in this category are mostly bland - but he doesn't trash them that gjust stating the obvious - if want true luxury, go buy a luxury car. If you want a good mid-size Crossover SUV, but this one or any of the others out there because they are all pretty much the same - big boxes, with decent amenities to Tote your family around. 2 thumbs up guys.

Holy crap, you guys look SO happy in a Nissan without CVT, it is double on comical! Marks body language is screaming sarcasm and enjoyment (that it's not a CVT shitbox). Jokes aside, I think this is a little too late - they should've done this at least 2 years ago. Same with QX60 it shares base with.

One thing on the gauge cluster is the small triple line button on the steering wheel let’s you change the digital style to be wider to the outside and open up the middle to have a bigger map when you have nav turned on

I owned one Nissan but after dealing with endless quality problems, and the extremely poor experience with their dealership service departments, I would not make that mistake again.

I’m not saying other cars don’t have small issues like this, but Nissan misses the simple stuff like rubbing brake lines all the time. I just don’t see quality in that. It really makes you wonder about all the other stuff that’s half assed that you’ll eventually deal with during long term ownership.

Another Great review guys... thanks to you I leased the Maxima Plat. 2018.... just switched it to a Rogue Plat 2021....I was thinking of the new Pathfinder... my wife owns a 2013 SV (soccer mom model)... but I'll keep it for 5 more years ;) not worth the upgrade.

Great review! Nice stylish SUV with very adequate V6 and 2nd gen. 9 speed auto transmission. Nice interior and 44.5:" leg room driver and passenger room.!

Very good review. Just adding I liked because has some truck appeal in the boxy design. That’s something in the design that Nissan customers we’re looking for in the new Pathfinder. CVT gone is huge and new transmission is great.

It's a nice rig, inside and out. I think Nissan is heading in the right direction as a brand. It's good to see them revamp their lineup with better designs, smarter engineering and nicer interiors. Thank goodness they are NOT putting those annoying CTVs in everything. At 50k for the top trim level, you start to run up against some serious competition from Germany which many buyers will turn to instead simply for the badge. The 35-40k trim levels will likely be their best sellers, possibly luring some customer away from the aging Honda Pilot.

An improvement in your data would be the drag coefficient. Espcially for those big BIG SUV, it could help a lot to know if you double down in fuel consumption.

I’m curious as to your thoughts of the base instrument cluster as the digital one (as well as the heads up display) is only available on the top trim. I know you have to review what you get but most people probably will get the three lower trims.

Hi. Thanks for the nice review. I own a PF platinum 4wd since sep-21 and I really like it. Some things do bother me but I like its engine and transmission is good. With the competition having also a V6 for the most part, where does the Nissan V6-transmission combo stand compared to the kia-Hyundai twins for example?or the other 3-row SUV out there? Thanks

The head room looks great, which is important to me. Did you feel it was more spacious or the same as competitors?

If Nissan made a Pro4X version… holy hell. I’d get one in a heart beat. It would probably fit under the platinum, making it cheaper but more rugged! I’d buy one.

All Nissan needs to do at this point is turn the Armada/Pathfinder, independent rear suspension so the third row is okay for adults, and then make an Xl VERSIONNN, like the suburban or expedition max

Interesting video as posted on Car Questions. The car was acting very strange during the AWD test.

My lease is up on my 2020 Kia Telluride. What the dealers are asking to remain in a Telluride is ridiculous. I’m about to pull the trigger on a Platinum trim with the Dark Green color and Chestnut leather interior. I can say it drives better than my Telluride.

Jack nailed it. I’m a Honda guy but don’t like the Pilot’s interior. Hopefully they will address it in an update/new model.

Now I’m wondering how hard it would be to retrofit that 9 speed to my maxima 😂

Just test drove the Pathfinder, Highlander and Pilot and overall for ride quality I would choose the Pathfinder but the visibility was by far the worse. The interior dashboard was also the highest of the three along with the hood. It did feel the most truck like and that includes the interior space between seats.

Dang it/thanks - now I need to test drive this Pathfinder Buying cars for myself as a gearhead is easy, I mostly go with my gut. Now that I'm shopping for a 3 row SUV for our growing family which my wife will drive 80% of the time I need a damn spreadsheet to keep up with them all. The highlander is currently winning because I can own that the longest, allowing the longest time without having analysis paralysis over which piano black interiored SUV to pick 💯

I might buy a SL tomorrow. Worst part is the 3 yr 36 k bumper to bumper warranty, it’s like the 1990s again. Kia offers 5 yr 60k.

I bought a Nissan Pathfinder in September 2021. I have had three computer issues 1) the transmission pops out of drive and goes to park. 2) Total malfunction - was told the malfunction occurred when the battery went dead. The vehicle had 4,000 miles on it. 3) March 17,, 2022 the transmission pops out of drive and goes to park and when I try to correct the issue it goes back into d/m then when I start to drive to jumps back to Park.

I can;t tell if they are being sarcastic or not while they explain the truck lol. The smiles are throwing me off

Nissan finally caught up to the times. It’s a very spacious and competitive ute with good tech and powertrain. The doors have a solid thunk when closing and materials are quite good. Thankfully the V6 carries over. Second best engine after the Pilot. Nissan is doing well.

Good review again! I would choose this Pathfinder over the others for the overall style (it reminds me of the third gen), the powertrain and the fact that i just like Nissan. We have a Kia Sorento at home with over 5k of maintenance but still have a broken transmission, so i can't see myself buying another Kia again (after 6 Kia).

1st gen and 2nd gen were pretty good trucks even though I never owned one but it was a real truck I think these car companies should go back to there roots and just give the vehicle a modern flair.. Old school with a modern touch!!

Early 2000's Pathfinder was the best, couldn't top that.

*My wife has a 2016 Platinum edition after 2 years of the purchase Nissan call us for a transmission work(we had no issues )at 17k miles…..right now we have 70k miles no issues besides tires and brakes,nothing to complain*

Using premium gas on my ‘18 gets you 26 mpg combined. Takes about two tank fills to allow the computer to adjust the timing. Why? Premium has more additives and a better chance the vapor will help clean the intake valve to cutdown on the carbon. The 3.5 is a gem of a motor. I’ve got my dealer on alert when a SL premium package comes in. They have really improved the vehicle. If they want to improve sales, improve the little defects.

Availability and price. None of the competitors listed are in stock at dealerships, and if you want to order them they are thousands and thousands above sticker which are much higher, with a few months wait for delivery. So it is this or keep driving your old car.

When you all mentioned the price. I knew there would be cost cutting and there is. I was hoping Nissan wouldn't keep doing this. Let's hope they up the ante up a little with the new Z.

I just had this exact model/color Pathfinder for a two week rental. I was very impressed by the quality of it although I wasn't as impressed as these guys were with the takeoff. I thought the acceleration was kind of sluggish and it lumbered down the road rather than taking off quickly. It's very reminiscent of my previous 2008 Mercedes ML350. That said, this is basically a luxury vehicle and I kept wondering what could Nissan possible offer in their Infiiniti line that was so much better than the Pathfinder. I currently own a BMW x3 and the only thing the Pathfinder couldn't match was the quickness and speed. Also, a slight downer was that, although it was only a 2022, there was a slight sign that the leather isn't going to be the most durable over the years as the driver's seat seemed to already be losing some of its suppleness. Overall, a great vehicle even if it is a bit pricey.

I would have owned the previous generation if it didn't have the $$$ trainwreck of the Jatco CVT....it's back on my radar now
