Excellent video/comparison. The GTS is the Goldilocks of the 992 platform. It’s the best bang for your buck. The appeal of the GTS is the Turbo underpinnings/chassis, the massive/upgraded Turbo brakes, upgraded boost, and the number one reason to buy this over the Turbo is the magnificent manual transmission. What’s not to like? Cheers/B

First and foremost, the GTS is a sham: the same engine as in the S only a higher turbocharger, lowering and twice as hard damper settings. The real hot spot is the Carrera T - which can also be seen in the used car prices.

Great work👌 regarding the ride on the GTS I swapped the tyres from Bridgestone Potenza to Michelin Pilot sport 4S and found the ride a lot more compliant on my Carrera 4S 🤷‍♂️

I hear a lot of people saying the 4Ss are a quieter than the Potenzas. If my GTS arrives in a few months with Potenzas, I’ll definitely be swapping for the 4Ss when they wear out. I’m also not going for the lightweight package, as that removes some sound insulation.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but helper springs are under complete compression during almost all road driving - they are only installed to keep the main spring seated firmly against its' lower perch when the suspension is in almost full droop - so unless you plan on catching air on your way to dropping your kids off at school, helper springs do nothing for ride comfort. Helper springs might allow the suspension engineers to use a shorter and thus lighter main spring that also might have a lower spring rate - but the spring rate is much more often than not higher, not lower.........

Every review on Porsche, there is a continued mantra on removing sound insulation to improve the exhaust/engine noise at the expense of cabin noise. Whats wrong with cracking the window a little and keeping all necessary sound insulation?

no, but rather saving weight, not improving sound, that is only a secondary result, i would agree with you on opening the window to allow sound to enter the cabin.....

Great review. It’s refreshing to see a review that doesn’t ignore comfort and daily usability. As nice as the GTS is, I don’t need silly centerlock wheels on a street car or a bone jarringly harsh suspension. If they offered the base Carrera with a manual it would be the easy choice. Plenty of power, widebody at a low price. Will they do a 992 Carrera T manual ?

Gts with manual gearbox makes is the best combination between c2S and turbo as it agglomérâtes the best of both worlds not only sharpening an S.
@nigel.w
@nigel.w 2 года назад
But the Turbo has the quietest cabin and a more compliant ride. The GTS's handling characteristics are closer to the GT3 than any other 992. And its engine is definitely S+, not Turbo light. You can talk about the supposed Turbo chassis, but while it has the stopping power of a Turbo, it doesn't ride like one. It's a GT light, because its handling and stripped out characteristics/setup are a half-way house between Carrera S and GT3, not a half-way house between Carrera S and Turbo. It's a track-oriented version of the S, and therefore a track version of a road car. It's much less of a grand touring car than a Carrera or a Turbo. If you want Turbo light with a manual gearbox, you need to stump up the cash for a Sport Classic.

Have to be honest. As a 997 owner, I do wish Porsche would do a Panamera coupe so they can sell those to the guys that want to say they have a Porsche sports car. But have the 911 smaller, lighter, louder, and overall more raw experience. I guess the GT3 touring in the 6MT fits that bill to a certain extent, but so bloody expensive. It’s almost like Porsche built the GT4 to take the place of the old 911 which is a bummer if one wants to stay in the 911 family.

@@brianhimmelman420 the pinnacle for me would still be a 997.2 GT3RS 4.0 and then a 3.8 respectively. That being said, I am more about the experience than the absolutely lap times (for a road car). There is no doubt that Porsche offered 4 wheel steering, recalibration of the electric steering and updates to the manual transmissions as they have progressed from the 991.1 and onward. Porsche underestimated the desire for the feel of shorter wheelbase (thus the 4 wheel steer) and analogue feel (electric steer recalibration and updates to manual transmission) of the 997 car. The demand for the GT3 manual is also a reflection of this and props to Porsche for responding!!

I could be wrong, and I've not watched any other reviews of the GTS (I don't like to do so before I publish my own, as I find it muddies my opinion), but I was super surprised by the GTS's ride. You can see in the roadside panning shots just how much the car fidgets along the road.

Nice video. Just for clarification, the stripped out sound insulation is only on the lightweight package correct?
@9WERKSTV
@9WERKSTV 2 года назад
Some sound insulation is stripped out of the GTS as standard, however the lightweight pack then strips out a further 25kg, plus tweaks the aero (active rear wing angle is changed and air flow at the front of the car is tweaked, both for more downforce).
@marceltay
@marceltay 2 года назад
@@9WERKSTV Interesting how much has changed on the “standard” 992 generation GTS, that has introduced more driver focus (removal of sound deadening, and stiffer suspension), and add on top of that the lightweight package updates you mentioned, will they still make an updated Carrera T?

Interesting. Kinda wish spent more time comparing with the GT3 with the others, which is why I clicked. Yes, the GT3 will always be better, but would still be interesting to compare and contrast. There will always be something more “special” about the GT3 even if a Turbo S can keep up with it and a GTS (on same tires) would probably be not far behind, but to the mortals out there, the GT3 is fairly unobtainable

C2S 11 :) It epitomizes the "911 driving experience". Does what a 911 SHOULD without sacrificing. GTS--more fetures, marginally better performance (which i don't think you'd notice in day to day driving...more midrange? shrug)...very marginal...unless you had a c2s to compare you wouldn't notice)...and it's LOUD inside....something most wouldn't want if planning to drive it almost daily. or regulary. ... I think a lot of new and 911 owners who've owned many have strayed away from "what a 911 experience SHOULD be"....many trying to get more traction...opting for the 4WD "4" models or the Turbo S. Part of the fun of owning a 911 is knowing it's "tail heavy"....so you should actually want the tail-end to swing out a little in spirited cornering....making RWD 911's the way to go....you DON'T want "max trcation possible"...go buy a 4WD SUV!! :) Best 911? IMHO the GT3 Trouring---for everyday driving fun...welll, maybe not everyday...maybe weekend fun :) it is kind of noisy---"good noise"...

Thanks, and sorry it wasn't longer. I didn't have a great deal of time with each car unfortunately. I don't personally think there's a need for front axle lift on a GTS, it's only necessary for GT cars with the much deeper front lip.

After some trepidation I went from a 911 to a 718 4 litre. It’s absolutely brilliant, far better than I anticipated. Was thinking of my next car, (as you do), but if the ride is crashy on the 911 GTS will stick with the 718. Test drove the 992 Carrera and found it lacked soul and engine noise. Btw the throttle response on the 718 is brill being naturally aspirated. Also ride is great but went with the 10mm drop as opposed to the 20mm.

Glad you did this comparison.. had a 991.2 C2S in the past and currently run a 718 Spyder which I’ve just traded in.. for a 992 GTS arriving in February.. I hope… The ride of the GTS probably won’t be quite as hard as that of the 718 Spyder, so not too bothered, and the gear change won’t be hugely different either I suspect. The one question I have is.. is there noticeable increased turbo lag over the 992 C2S? Cheers!

Nice with the incoming GTS! The turbocharged Carreras are so well executed, there's barely any discernible lag anyway, there's certainly no more apparent in the GTS over the C2S.
