I went back and forth on the Palisade and Telluride. Palisade won in tech, and Telluride the exterior front end. However, in the Virginia area, Kia dealers are marking up the Telluride by $15k, while a couple dealers are marking up the Palisade by $5k... but I was able to find one within 30 mins that offered MSRP, so going with the Palisade at the Limited level, with the digital display, HUD, push button electronic seating, and better sound system. With the same engine, same base, I can't believe people are paying the $15k premium on a $40-50k car. I didn't even pay over MSRP for my C8 (in my profile pic). Great video.. thanks!
Interesting. No question about the top two; however, I rank the CX-9 well above the Pilot and the Highlander. But I can accept the Highlander's spot, considering it has an available hybrid engine.
The CX9 is obviously more well-rounded. The Pilot is too plasticky although its engine is quite good. But Honda quality has gone downhill in recent years. I keep seeing people complain about Honda SUVs having leak problems under the hood
@@HungNguyen-cl2mu They surely have gone down hill some faults they just use to cover it up better back in the day.. My friend is on his second Honda in resent years and rear diff leak at the time still fairly new but outa warranty Honda said pay to replace 5 gran after spending over 40G to buy plus other issues.. we ended up dropping that diff and resealing it.. no wonder Hyundai and Kai are stealing some of their thunder
Never knew of the Kia telluride until I was up later one night looking at different SUV’s bc mine was ready for the grave. Came across A 2022 telluride nighthawk here at our local dealership.. thought no way the website was updated but decided the next morning after dropping off my daughter at school we’d take a drive over before the dealership opened just to see ….. THERE SHE WAS LOADED WHITE WITH BLACK JUST LIKE I WAS WANTING IN A NEW SUV… dealership opened 20 minutes early so we could start the paperwork! Dealer said it had just arrived to them a day earlier and several people were calling about it. I Had the salesman LOCK THE CAR SO NO ONE COULD CLIMB through it . Bought it and HAVE LOVED IT SINCE ! Every maintenance visit I’m approached by someone there asking if I’m interested in selling it back to them …. NO ! I keep my mileage low and took it straight to my friend who owns a detail shop had a clear wrap applied , detailing every 6 wks and I love her … my Telluride! Nighthawk 2022
I wish the Pilot was more attractive. To me it looks like a bulked up Odyssey. Would love to see a more suv look in a redesign. We enjoyed our Highlander when we first got it, before our 2nd kid. But it didn't work as good as we hoped. To me the 3rd row is there, but not really usable. It is some cramped. Really wanted something smaller then full size, but adults can still fit in all rows. My main complaint with many of the choices, ..... if you want a bench 2nd row, you are stuck with lower trims.
Where is the Subaru Ascent? I just bought an Ascent and I test drove every SUV in your video except the Nissan. While the Hyundai and Kia are excellent and deserve to be in the top 5, I bought the Ascent instead. The Ascent drives smaller than either the Hyundai or Kia, similar to the CX9. The Ascent really handles well like a much smaller vehicle, but interior room is on par with any of the cars in your video. And, I could get my Ascent with a bench second row. I don't like captain's chairs, especially having dogs. The Subaru Symmetrical AWD is standard, full time, always on and is one of the best , if not the best, AWD system in the industry. And while I would rather have an 8 or 10 speed transmission over the Subaru's CVT, the 4 cylinder turbo pulls better around town than either the Hyundai or Kia even if it occasionally gets a bit buzzy with the CVT. I really thought I would be buying the Telluride, but the Ascent stands toe to toe with it. That surprised me. So I really am at a loss that the Ascent is nowhere to be found in your video.
I have BMW X3 2022 and it's just amazing and of course, It's a BMW... My SUV have run flat and is quieter as you can get, and you've heard it on this video, GV70 it has a lot of noise because run flat. I've tried Lexus 350 SUV and it has a lot of noise that reminded me of my Forester 2020 which is not necessary bad, but this is luxury class. Genesis offered more technology as standard but my BMW X3 2022 is a fancy buffet: It has a lot of small things that works great in it, plus the prestige. Not as attractive inside as GV70 or Mercedes-Benz but over all better. I love BMW because of how fast, quiet, and how when driving on a curve streets, you don't feel like you are going to turn over (NOTE: DO NOT SPEED ON CURVE STREETS. I DON'T DO THAT). But when I do drive on the limit, it drives better than non luxury SUV. I like how GV70's future but I do believe they are not there yet. People that are not rich but have enough money to get into a luxury car or SUV, for the most part are going for what they know from experience, from parents or any older experienced drivers.
They just came out with a recall on some Hyundai products for catching fire here in the US they said not to park your vehicle in your garage just heard it today
Love our 2015 Highlander but unfortunately because of the supply chain issues, we'll be postponing our purchase of a replacement. Just not going to pay retail-plus. Sorry. QUESTION: If Palisade and Telluride are cousins, why does Telluride get a significantly higher JD Power score than Palisade. And, Andrea, please keep telling us about the "Maaaaazda." Love it!
I loved my 2017 Dodge Durango. . . . . Until all the electronics started to go on me. UGH! I have a GV70 now and I do love this SUV but I also miss my Durango alot
Congrats on the GV 70, they are so beautiful, and just unique and offer so much for the money even with a 2.5 turbo? Did you get the prestige or which model, and if I may ask did you have to pay over sticker? I have seen like two on the roads down here in Southern California I can’t wait to see more, always a pleasure to look at
@@nicholasbabeaux2052 I got the 2.5T Sport Prestige and had to pay around $1200 over sticker. Now with that being said, I got $31K for my Durango when I paid $41K for it in April 2017. I wish I shopped around and went to another dealer but I lucked out with getting what I got cause it was meant for someone else and they canceled the order
Palisade>Telluride: no markup, electric 3rd row, extras space under gear selector, more refined gear box, full digital drive display Telluride>Palisade: Appearance, great selector, fog lights, LED back up lights. I don't buy the Telluride>Palisade...
The quality of Telluride's interior is a level below the interior of Palisade and Highlander. Yes, Telluride has the same engine and very similar features as the Palisade; however the Palisade's interior is more upscale and premium. Exterior comes down to personal preference. The Highlander's interior also has the luxurious feel however it has too much plastic and lacks of soft-touch material, especially in the cabin area.
The Subaru Ascent is a great SUV and offers a lot of value for a 3-row SUV. We thought about mentioning it in our honourable mention but I think there ends up being too many vehicles and then it's not really a Top 5 list anymore. I feel this is such a fierce category and the are all really great options. - Andrea
I like the Toyota . Japanese quality , & reliability . The Koreans aren’t there yet . Toyota has the best car manufacturing facilities in Aisha and America
Andrea, not everyone wants the Highlander's larger touchscreen. Excessive piano black and touch-capacitive controls = fail. I'd rather have a normal screen with user-friendly, reliable hard buttons and switches, which forces me to go to a lower trim package. An eight-inch screen used to be considered enormous, and it's still plenty large enough. You don't need a finicky, attention-diverting home theater screen in your car's dash. You just don't. Every time you prioritize these ginormous screens that lack real buttons and switches (cough...Tucson...cough) as your reason for choosing one model over another, or one trim package over another, I can't help but cringe. That crap simply doesn't matter. It's not a positive. It's an industry-wide negative.
Non-luxury in Canada and you're looking at $50,000+ for the base model (after tax) of every model listed here. Kia Sorento, a midsize 7-seater can be had for $43K and change. In terms of value for dollar, I'd say that's a "best" feature.
Just for the powertrain and lack of real usability of the 3rd row the Telluride is definitely worth the price difference. The last Sorento is a step back unfortunately.
@@andreaspencer9813 Thanks for your reply. I didn't buy one; Just pointing out its a good value. Ah well. It's all positive engagement for the RU-vid algorithm.
I too think the Telluride is a great looking vehicle both inside and out. The one thing that bugs the heck out of me is the 2 exhaust outlets on the right side…but nothing on the left. Makes the rear unbalanced looking and can’t unsee it.
I sooooo agree with you about captain seats vs bench seat...need a bench for my infant to be in the safest spot of the vehicle...the middle. So frustrating.
Can you do a review for best two row mid sized SUV’s and a review for best mid sized SUV for tall drivers? Not many videos on You Tube relating to tall drivers. Good Video! Thank you!
Thanks for making this video, I ordered a palisade last summer right after watching your review on that vehicle and I finally got it last month, so much enjoyed it, thank you guys!
Both cars have stupid mark ups, up to $10000 in the US every where. When they do not have hight mark ups the way they are trying to get you is by forcing you into getting a bunch of nonsense options and accessories and this is non negotiable.
I will never understand making second row captain chairs standard on higher models! Just because someone wants a fully loaded trim but also wants a max seat figuration but can’t get it! Make it optional the whole point of these suvs is for families so taking one less seat doesn’t seem smart
Totally agree! That is one problem with the Sorento, it's a 7-passenger vehicle but only offers 6-seats on the top trim and the PHEV only has 6-seats with no offering of a bench seat on any trim. Very limiting.
We bought a 2022 blue Mitsubishi Outlander and we absolutely love it! We got the third trim and it drives great, solid fuel economy, has some nice tech features, and is budget friendly :). Also SUN ROOF 😁
Haha! Tell me more, please. I just sold my 95 Kia shortage and it was kind of crappy. I'm wondering if I should get the Telluride and your comment intrigues me.
I dont know whats with Toyotas and their always smaller than competition and terrible infotainments. I understand they have a reskinned "luxury" Toyota product they need to sell (Lexus) but their Toyota products are getting less refined than even Mitsubishis these days!
As the owner of an AWD 2021 Hyundai Palisade Limited , I am impressed. Great gas mileage for such a roomy vehicle . It can handle towing my 19’ boat . The interior is stellar, better than the Telluride, IMO . I also like the fact that all of the body panels are body colored, unlike the Telluride . I do wish the Palisade had the Telluride’s folding side mirrors. There is no perfect vehicle, but both the Palisade and Telluride are really good . Finally, the Hyundai/Kia engine recalls do not apply to the Palisade or Telluride’s 3.8L V6 . The engine and 8 spd auto are stellar in both cases. I’m not worried one iota.
Bought my wife a 2022 Palisade Calligraphy AWD about a month ago. She is in love with it. Was able to find one for MSRP by shopping out of state. The local dealerships had a minimum of $7K markup on them. I prefer the Telluride's exterior, but the Palisade Calligraphy's interior is one step above what the Telluride SX Prestige offers; truly near-luxury car levels of fit/finish/materials.
I want to get one as the family car but the only thing that I am unsure about is how heavy it is if you are used to a 5seater or sedan. Did she comment on this aspect?
@@PersonWithStupid37 It definitely drives "bigger" than a sedan, since it is bigger and heavier. My wife is used it though, coming from two minivans and a full-size truck prior to the Palisade.
If you wish to keep your vehicle for more than 8 years or drive more than 130k miles without paying too much for repairs. Only consider Asian brands (nissan and Mitsubishi are excluded)
I’ve seen dealers asking nearly $70k in Alberta for the Telluride Nightsky right now (car cost Canada isn’t going to help in this market). Is the Grand Cherokee L considered a “luxury” brand? I wish some of these brands would square off their designs a bit more (like the Atlas and arguably Telluride) for a more traditional SUV “look”. I love Honda, but the Pilot is so boring to look at. Atlas would be a contender on my list for our next SUV if VW improved their reliability, and improved their plasticky interior. Also, about Durango, there’s more than two engine choices ;-)
We purchased a Highlander Hybrid Limited and so far we are happy with it. The big selling point for us, is the birds eye view feature, which is only available on the top tiers. Plus the fuel mileage is awesome!
Would like to test drive the Highlander Hybrid , have been to one dealer and they had non in stock to test drive. I heard with the part shortage the bird eye view feature may not be available even as a option in the limited model. Are you finding the front drivers seat and passenger seat comfortable ? I appreciate your advice .
Tell me ....how is the gas mileage? I have a Sorento hybrid that's been in the shop since may 25th....... currently working on a lemon law buyback but I absolutely can't find a highlander hybrid anywhere just to test drive..... Anyway ..I could only get 30mpg city in the 3 months I had mine
Thanks again for a great video. I’ve become a big fan of your channel. Can I offer a suggestion for videos? Perhaps start adding time stamps so people can jump around quickly. This would be particularly useful for a video like this when you’re talking about multiple vehicles. I think this would even be helpful in your “regular” videos to get to the highlight segments like standard features, questions coffee and cars, for your consideration, etc. Thanks!
It's not 3 row seater but I've finally narrowed my car down to a Subaru Forester Touring or Sport. I'm torn between the two.😭 The cvt in the sport isn't as loud as the limited that I test drove compared to the sport. I know it's not the touring but that's all they had at the moment. Thank you for your reviews!
This ranking has come at a perfect time. I just helped a friend get her family 7-seating SUV, since her Forester XT has been a decade ago and needs a replacement. She has looked at all the candidates in this fiercely competitive segment. She has chosen the landslide winner which is the Telluride, which already needed to wait 8 months to get 2023 model year. Even though Sorento's selected trim has stock to choose from, the attractive package of Telluride remains the one to beat. Believe this. After all the test drives, she actually disliked Ascent the most. Along with poor quality ratings in CR, she decided to go Korean.
We like the Sorento a lot and the Ascent offers great value for a 3rd row SUV but you can't beat the Telluride for the space, it's one of the biggest in this category.
@@Fear.of.the.Dark. In Canada, we won't have to worry about paying over MSRP. But she has to pay in cash cause the lease and financial deals are so poor, mainly because its a hot item.
The mid-size SUVs look like station wagons similar to the Subaru Outback. Are there any boxy, truck style midsize SUVs similar to the old Ford Escape or old Toyota RAV4?
What’s with the stupid 3 row seat obsession. There are 3.13 people in the average family in the USA. The average family size has declined from 3.8 in 1940 to 3.1 by 2021. Yet car reviewers/manufacturers insist on having a 3rd row in crossover; and calling it a “family holler" (BTW - the real meaning of crossover is - glorified minivan). How many families actually have 7-8 people in them? Whose family are they driving around? Not to mention that most of the 3rd row seats are completely uncomfortable, difficult to get to and kill your cargo capacity. Plus they add weight to the vehicle. I’ve seen reviews of vehicles like the Honda Passport, where reviewers are complaining about not having a 3rd row seat. I see that as a benefit!!! Look if you need 7-8 seaters, buy a minivan, trust me these 3 row crossovers aren’t any cooler! At least a minivan is comfortable for all passengers; including your exceptional 5 child family…lol
Andrea seems like she is always happy! When the video starts and she immediately smiles, I seem to smile back. It must be nice to be that happy inside, and how lucky is Zach too! You guys make a great couple/team and I really enjoy your videos, the format is different than all the others and those are the parts I look forward to hearing too.
For Christmas, my husband and I ordered an S model Kia telluride Dark Moss, which should be here in about July. Which I am fine to wait because the markup isn't nearly as bad as a lot of the other dealerships.
I am looking to buy a bigger SUV. I spoke with a mechanic and told me stay away from Kia and Hyandai due to engine oil issues at a 70k miles. They burn the oil and start leaking. Moreover, the oil they use is not as superior as the oil Toyota, Honda or Subaru use.
I wish you guys had “honorable” mentioned the Kia Sorento which has standard 3 rows. I know it’s size cannot be compared to the “real” mid size SUV but as the owner of the vehicle (PHEV version), I found that all three rows have decent rooms, not to mention the stellar mpgs which makes me smile 😀😀😀
I totally agree. I recently sold my 2020 Pacifica PHEV and I only had to fill it up a few times a year or when I went on trips. I also saw no noticeable increase in my electric bill. I am now looking at the Sorento to replace it.
JD Power is a paid fake “customer feedback”. I used to work in hotel and we have a advertising budget that we pay JDPower if you want to say “JD Power rated excellent in service, etc.”
What makes a car or SUV luxury anymore? All cars have these new tech things in them. I have a 21 RDX,. Car I had before was a Subaru Outback. 2018. My Outback actually had a better ride then the RDX and it was a safer car.
A friend a mind is buying a 2022 Kia Telluride SX. He found a dealer last year that said one was coming in before the end of the year and would sell it to him for MSRP. Fast forward to today and now the dealer is telling him that it one won't come until 2/18/2022. In addition, they are now selling it for $3.5K mark-up over MSRP due to the continued demand. He also had to pay a non-fundable deposit. I would have walked from the deal as the deposit should be refundable. Of note, the mark-up for this dealer is the cheapest in the area as a dealer near where I live is selling them with a mark-up of $10K. Ugh!
I was on the market for 3 row SUV and looking between the Toyota highlander and Kia telluride and ended up with 2022 Toyota highlander hybrid bronze edition.
The Pathfinder we have doesn't have any of those issues. It used to get stuck in 1st gear, but hasn't happened again. I pass people very easily, and when I put it in sports mode, it's a beast. And the last one is a joke. It does not drive like a truck. It rides very well and is a smooth ride.
You gotta understand they only drive the car prolly once. They are not doing a long term test drive. It’s funny that Kia and Hyundai are top two every time 😂☠️
In no universe is the outdated Pilot better than the Pathfinder/Atlas. Plus I am begging all the reviewers to give us a ranking where Palisade/Telluride are not the top ignoring all of their small flaws you don't ignore with other vehicles ;)
As a family of 5 we went with a 2019 VW Atlas as you can have 3 car seats side by side and don’t even have to take any out to get into the third row. Pretty sweet and no issues so far.
This is why we are considering the atlas. From all the vehicles it has the most useful second row and I'm actually considering the bench due to its accessibility
