Thank you for actually taking the 4runner off road and showing it some love. Most reviewers focus on the wrong things with the 4Runner cause yes it is outdated and there are flaws like mpg and having a truck like drive on the road with lots of body roll but I love it. I mean if you drive a truck then it’s really not bad as people say. It’s not a super sports car so as long as you aren’t flying around turns you’ll be good. I wouldn’t trade my 4runner for anything else. 4runnerGang for life

Nice review, like the enthusiasm and fact you actually pushed the 4Runner Off-Road. I haven't owned a Tacoma, My 2014 4Runner Trail has done everything I have asked of it. Yes, the engine and driveline are old designs, but they are tough and super reliable. Have wheeled with many people with Tacoma's and they have gone over everything I have. Of course on some obstacles the longer wheelbase Tacoma does better and the same is true for the 4Runner in some areas. The Jeep Wrangler is a more dedicated off-roader. Both vehicles with a 3" lift and some decent All Terrain tires are beasts. The Wrangler will go over difficult stuff easier. That said, On road and living with it day to day, I will always go with the 4Runner and look forward to getting a 6th gen...

I’m on my third 4R, my last one was a 2011 SR5 premium, I had to sell to get a work truck. Once truck was paid for I went back to Toyota dealer and bought a new 2020 ORP with KDSS and love it. Paid cash this time, no vehicle payments.

This is an excellent review. Wranglers are great off road. I've had both, and the problem with a Wrangler is that you have to live with it daily. The 4Runner is just a joy to own and much easier to live with.

Whenever I think I want a Wrangler, I have to remind myself of this. I kind of have Gladiator fever right now with the huge discounts, but I'm reminding myself that I need to drive it 60 mi a day and I probably would get sick of it quickly. On the other hand, 35s with no lift!

I have the same 2022 4Runner TRD Pro in Lime Rush , stock , only a few lighting mods and it’s a beast in its stock form , perfect clearance for the trails I take it through in SoCal. I’m going to try and wear out my stock suspension before actually upgrading to a lift kit and all the other components associated with a lift.

Is the Front, back, sides and 360 cams a higher resolution/ quality on the 22 4runner Pro vs the 22 Tacoma Pro? Hard to tell but seeing the screen it looks like it is which if so, it is very disappointing. The vids I see of the Tacoma cams look very low res/ quality, but these appear to be better.

We have to TRD pro 4Runner and TRD Tacoma 4x4 and from my experience the Tacoma is geared better in 4Low than 4Runner and doesn’t struggle up steep hills with ruts in them like 4Runner does both are great though but I would definitely take the Tacoma TRD off road over the 4Runner …

“ 4 runner superior build over Tacoma 100% “ ha ? Let’s see here gen3 Tacoma TRD off road uses components from the Hilux like the hubs, trans, rear axle, spindles etc. rear diff 4 runner is 8inch ring gear , Tacomas is 8.75 inch , the spindles and hubs in the Tacoma are slightly larger than the 4Runner as well.

3.73 gears for the 4Runner 3.91 for the Tacoma , the 4.0L is a 4 mains bolt the 3.5L in the Tacoma IS A 6 BOLT MAINS!!!! Looks to me Tacomas is wayyyyyyy superior to the 4 runner I have both I know these trucks in and out and Tacoma on 32’s still get over 22-24 mpg 4Runner will be lucky to get 18-19 mpg

@@terrynichol577 I dunno if it's as night and day as you think. I've wheeled with a bunch of tacos and 4Rs and both handle the same obstacles fine. @terrynichol577
@terrynichol577 2 года назад
@@YerBoyTroy older guys? Lol? How old is older guys to you? It's faxed. The 4Runner is a superior build to the Tacoma. All I have to tell you is it's made in Japan, and all the newer tacomas 15 and up are not. I've owned three tacomas myself, I guess everyone has their own opinion.. what really gets me is you say older guys lol? I'm 39, I guess I can afford more than a younger guy lol? And a nicely built 4Runner to me is a lot cooler than the Tacoma. And that's coming from a guy who's owned to both. But like I said each to their own opinions lol. If I ever go back to a truck again it'll be a raptor and a 4Runner on my driveway.

Thought about getting one of these VS a Wrangler 3.0 EcoDiesel… then I saw that the 13/19 MPG of the Toyota was considered optimistic and the 22/29 MPG of the Jeep was considered realistic. Needless to say the decision was easy.

@@weirdshibainu Gas is 4.50 where I’m at, diesel is 5.05. Assuming both vehicles have 18 gallon tanks I’m getting 162 more miles in town, and 180 more miles on the highway per full fill up… so I promise you in this case the .55 extra per gallon is the “cheap” option.
@weirdshibainu
@weirdshibainu 2 года назад
@@TheDiameter Good for you. Gas is 6 bucks where I live and diesel is 6.25. If you factor the additional cost of the diesel option engine in most cars, it's a long pay back period. Which if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a long time,likely pays off. Like anything else, it's a personal choice.

I consider Wranglers and Broncos more purpose-built vehicles. IMO the 4Runner gives you almost all the off-road capability in a package that is still a good daily driver or family vehicle. I know people daily-drive their Jeeps, but IMO they are miserable to ride in and drive on road. And, FWIW, what a terrible place to camp!
