I can remember in the 1970's when we called Toyotas rice burners. The Kubota tractors were also thought to be junk. Years later when they were still running, people started realizing they lasted longer than American made tractors.

Considering I do 95% driving on the street I should have probably got the TRD 4x4 sport model but instead I went with the TRD 4x4 off-road model I don't know if there's a whole lot of difference but I kind of like the plastic around the fenders & the bumper rather than everything being painted. But being tuned more for the street probably would have been better. The off-road has that locking rear diff which is hella nice, but I don't think I'd ever go off-road enough to where I would need it the 🌮's are so good off road I think just having 4-wheel drive you can get almost anywhere even in stock form for the average person camping, hunting & shooting things like that... Not going out to purposely Rock crawl or mud bog...

That's the way the world works. The person getting screwed is the worker making $6 a day or whatever it is. The crazy part is that these trucks are STILL WAY OVER PRICED. So yeah. It is what it is. I have family members in Central America making that kind of money. $100 per month making pants (Levis that sell for $50 or more here in the US). The kicker is that the owners of those companies are Chinese nationals. Like always, someone getting screwed over.

2021 TRD OR 4x4 owner. Love it. I like the transmission. I’m not sure what folks are talking about. The transmission likes to keep the RPMs as low as possible for fuel economy. So that means it likes to upshift earlier than folks might expect. Another huge benefit is low RPMs keep the engine running for many years. Less stress.

I have a 2020 TRD Off-Road 4x4. Everything said about the transmission is absolutely valid. Me personally I do like the tighter transmission feel, so it does annoy me, however the good outweighs the bad overall. Yes it is outdated compared to other vehicles currently. But, is that always a bad thing? The current tech in the Tacoma is proven and it will last a long time. It is not your typical futuristic truck loaded with tech and there is a very certain market for a Tacoma. Update: still have my Tacoma and I love it! The transmission improves over time as you drive it so I’m very happy to say it’s way better! In love with this truck and very happy with it.

That plant pays 10x the minimum wage, and the employees are extremely conscientious…much more than the Detroit plants. To say they’re only “put together” in Mexico means you don’t understand manufacturing. Why say things like a radio breaking from a vehicle built in Mexico. The location of the vehicle plant has nothing to do with reliability of an electronic component sourced from another company, then shipped to the vehicle plant to be installed. Once you start using the truck long enough, you will know how to fix that issue easily. The gears switching occur more when you uphill because it requires more power. What I did was I switch it to sport mode and leave it in 3rd gear or 4th gear depending on how fast I am going. This avoids the gears to switch back and forth. The only reason I sold my truck was because I needed a bigger truck to tow my trailer. Other then that, it was the best off road truck I've ever driven.

I bought a 2nd gen 2008 tacoma TRD 4 door last May for $11,000 with 106k miles on it at an auction. After watching your videos over the years I just felt your an honest guy who’s knows his stuff, you have a lot of good to say about Toyota. It now has 128k as my daily driver and I’ll never get rid of this truck. Gas mileage isn’t great, but this a truck and I’d trust it to get me down any road. It’s black and it’s still a good looking truck with some minor cosmetic mods and a fresh wash people have thought it was a newer model.

I have the ‘05, 4.0 217,000 and runs perfect and burns no oil. Simple, dependable well engineered truck, best I’ve owned.

I got a 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport back in March 2021. Built in Texas. Likely one of the last. Love it!

Mexicans are pretty damn good at their work. Plus there is no real difference between the Mexicans in Baja and the Mexicans in San Diego. The only difference is a couple miles

Its a adaptive transmission, it learns how you drive, if you wanted you can plug in a scan tool and reset it, it fix’s the gear shifting

If this guy was my father, I wouldn’t listen to anything he has to say either. Mostly because it’s evident from this video that he has nothing to say worth listening to and he’s just really annoying the way he yells at the camera.

"I'm pissed" That's not a Tacoma, it's a f150 lightning in disguise..

No it’s a Dodge. Designed by Mike Sweers. Look him up he has single handedly destroyed Toyota truck quality by adopting Chrysler methods of making it last 5 years before they get you back for major repairs.

F150 Lightning’s are great. Just not for towing since you’ll get only 100 miles per full charge.

@@angelgjr1999 Yup! whosoever buys one may want to make sure to travel less than 100 miles back and forth pulling a camper and must walk to town to get supplies or to venture. Most camp grounds does not have any hook up available for plugging in or not capable yet...lol. For me, the diesel truck will do for now and many years down the road until its time for the replacement rig.
