I bought the 2023 version of this vehicle last week. I wanted its reliability, looks and features. I'm a fisherman/hiker and will use it on 4x4 roads, so I don't need good looking rims, heated seats, etc. I think I'm really going to like this vehicle.

LOL - same! Got my 2023 just 3 weeks ago & I love it! Mine has all of that but the dealer had added running boards which is a nice touch for the base model. I don’t have a need to mod it up but since I too want this vehicle to last AT LEAST as long as our other truck (a ‘05 Silverado still going strong at 245k), I might just do a couple of things like fog lights & a power outlet in the bed. Rims? Meh. They work fine 😎. I did add my own after market tonneau cover too (tri fold) and it keeps bed items 99% dry. It’s 100% actually bc the minimal amount of water that has come in, was from small spaces in the truck itself, in the corners. Far too minor to be concerned with IMHO. Thanks for this video! I’m glad to see others totally happy with this model too! New sub here 😊. Karah

You can go to the settings and change “tank average fuel economy” to “average fuel economy” which will show your average fuel economy since it has been reset, which in your case would be the life of the truck. Awesome video man. I just got a 2022 magnetic grey double cab v6 4x4 SR. Same exact truck as you, loving it so far.

Drive what you like, great video.. One tip for you be sure to engage four-wheel-drive (4hi) at least once a month for a mile or two when you know you’re going to be going in a straight line and not over 55 miles an hour, this way your transfer case gears do not seize up from lack of use.

Just put a deposit on a 2023 SR to replace my 2009 SR5 that is beginning to show signs of old age. For me, a truck is a utility not a status symbol. I needed 4WD capability with at least a 3.5 litre engine and a bed that could carry at least 4x8 sheets of drywall with the tailgate down. The Tacoma satisfies all those requirements…sold.
@4af
@4af Год назад
I prefer the 4 cylinder. It's a quieter, more refined driving experience (when not accelerating hard) and gets low 20's miles per gallon fuel economy. Far easier to service yourself and far less costly (no direct injection). Lasts literally a lifetime (1,000,000 miles) with perfect maintenance.

Nah 4 cylinder is garbo. my friends 4 cylinder tacoma sounded like the motor was going to blow just trying to get up to cruising speed on the interstate. Wayyy to freaking slow. I subscribe to a couple of other Tacoma channels but you seem like a very genuine stand-up guy which is why I subscribed to you. I have a 2017 Tacoma SR four-cylinder Access cab that is the same color truck. It was a former certified pre-owned and with tax title license all in, the truck was about 24K with about 24,000 and change on the odometer (it’s still under 27K miles). I have done a dozen or so mods on the truck and still doing more and even with the mods added, my truck is at least at an SR5 level. Adding the cost of all the mods that I’ve put into it, I am still under an SR5 price not to mention paying a lower premium with my insurance company because it is a base SR model. I was laughing (in a good way) with all your negatives that you were itemizing with your truck because quite honestly, that’s what the mods are for and/or make up for. Now, if you are not the type to get your hands dirty or don’t want to work on your truck, then you may just need to grin and bear with any shortcomings you find with the Tacoma. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still a great truck but with the base model, yes - there are negatives versus higher trim levels that are available. I def look forward to further content.
@mjjauto
@mjjauto Год назад
Thank you man I appreciate it! Your SR sounds awesome. Crazy that with all the mods it's still under SR5's price. What kinds of mods are they? Since you said they were to fix the negatives I listed I mighttt want to look into some of them 😂 I usually am the type to get my hands dirty, but lately that's been more at the computer and not at all with my truck lol, I think eventually I might want to. But for now I'm just going to grin and bear with the shortcomings loll. And glad you're looking forward to future content! I will be posting some more "tech youtuber" style content in the next few videos but I'm going to try to put more time into the entertaining aspects of the video to be interesting to anyone. Eventually I will make another Tacoma update when I feel like it's the right time, hence why I left the end of this video open ended to me possibly doing some mods.

Enjoyed the video. You got some good editing skills. I had a 2019 Tacoma SR Access Cab V6 that I loved. It was a real nice truck that met my needs for a truck. The mods I did on the truck were useful. 1. Bet mat 2. Hard bed cover 3. Bed lights 4. Mud flaps 5. Replaced the mirrors with a unit with a built in blind spot mirror 6. Tacoma floor mats 7. Clove box and console organizer 8. Interior led lighting 9. LED back up lights I changed jobs which required me to drive 85 miles round trip, so I did sell it so I could buy a Camry Hybrid. Hopefully in the near future I will get another SR model Tacoma. Note: I actually like the steel wheels on the Tacoma.

It’s WORTH it. I have the 2021 SR 2.7L In-line 4 banger 4x4 with the black plastic bumper.. (not a fan of it) and it automatically came with “predator tubes” which is cool. and although it’s a slow truck, not so much torque and HP, I have no worries that it’ll leave me stranded or something weird will happen while I’m driving. Also I needed to build credit and it was the only Tacoma at my closest Toyota dealer that had a 4x4 SR access cab model in stock that wouldn’t cost me a fortune to buy so I went with it. If I wanted a much more decked out Tacoma there was only the SR5, TRD pro and limited and I definitely don’t have the money for it. 45-49k is way to pricey. Only changes I made was I changed the tires and rims (255/70/16) Goodyears, got leather seats in it with heating, now I honestly just want to get a keyless entry. I’m planning on paying off this truck and not have a car note. I learned to appreciate it. Before I wanted something cool and fast but I’m realizing more how dependable this truck will be in the long run. Plus I have no kids, and my dog loves to ride shotgun and he fits safely in the front (I got like a harnessed hammock on the passenger seat that I lift up whenever I put him in. I got a lot of crap from dodge boys and ford fans that’s my Tacoma is slow and weak but I can care less what they think because I’m not having to pay a fortune for maintenance and repair. So there’s that!

yep I feel the same! I trust the reliability a lot. And I feel the credit building... I had to get a cosigner because my credit took a plunge over something so stupid... but going through a credit union was the best choice I ever made (2.2% interest!). 45-49k is 100% too expensive for me. Thats awesome that you added leather heated seats! Same, I might do the keyless entry too. And yea, I originally wanted to buy a 2016 C7 Corvette but came to my senses rather quickly 😂 Those dodge boys and ford fans got nothin on you, Tacomas are the best hands down

Great review! During Covid, I had a 2022 Tacoma TRD off road premium with leather and sunroof on order for 6 months. It never came in due to chip shortages so I cancelled it. Ended up finding a 2023 Tacoma SR double cab v6 4x4 in stock for 33k and bought it. Drove that truck for 2000 miles and loved it but it had a few odd issues that Toyota couldn't fix so they had to buy it back. Don't worry, this was very unusual. While my new truck was staying at Toyota trying to diagnose the issues, they put me in a 2022 TRD Sport 4x4 with cloth interior. When they finally realized, they couldn't fix my SR, they offered to trade me up. A 2023 TRD Sport 4x4 premium came in. I drove to the dealership in the loaner 2022 TRD Sport with cloth and my wife and I neither one liked how hard the leather seats were. The sunroof was small and really cut down on headroom so we decided we didn't want that truck. I have to say the loaner TRD sport with cloth was definitely the most comfortable seats between all the ones I drove. Only big negative was the TRD Sport rode so much worse that the SR. Even on a smooth road, it always felt bouncy where the SR ride was just so smooth. I'm sure this has to do with the bilstein shocks on all TRDs where the SR, SR5 and limited don't have them. Cost wasn't my biggest concern but when it came time to order the replacement, I ended up ordering another 2023 Tacoma SR doublecab 4x4 V6. I considered the SR5 for the few extra features but at the end of the day, the SR just does everything we need. I have spent about $2000 in accessories(TRD off road wheel & tire takeoffs,TRD pro grill, hard bed cover, black out emblems, off road step bars, tinted windows and oem bed mat) and it looks in my opinion very close to the more expensive ones and i'm all in for 35k. May not be for everyone but my plan is to give this truck to my almost 12 year old to drive when he turns 16 and hopefully, he can drive it through high school and college. It's a Toyota so I don't believe that should be a problem.

Since your Taco is a 4WD, once a month Engage your 4WD for about 3 or so miles. If you don’t, your 4WD system can “gum” up and not work correctly. During our very snowy winter months my Taco is in 4WD most of the time. We live in a very mountainous area of north central Washington state and 5 miles from town, so once a month other than the winter, I engage the 4WD system just to keep everything moving smoothly.

The difference between 4hi and 4low is important to know if you ever plan on using them. 4hi is for lighter terrain and allows for speeds generally up to 45 mph. If you can go 35, you probably don't need to be in 4hi. Snowy roads, rough gravel road 4Low is for when your vehicle is stuck or about to go through very heavy terrain. It is very speed limited and geared for more torque. Most vehicles aren't intended to be in 4 low for prolonged periods of driving. You should never be in either on a clean road. It can break the 4wd system. You need to make sure there's something for the wheels to have to "go through" so to speak.

Which one would you use for trails?
@jumpsmcgee
@jumpsmcgee Год назад
@@mig4868 Depends on how rough the terrain is. I would start in 4 hi if it's a dry trail. If you know it's going to be very muddy, you might start in 4 low just to be safe. I try not to be in 4 low for a long time as it puts a strain on a lot of the components of the vehicle and makes turning difficult.

For off road specific cons: -Thin frame / subframe , weak spindle and weak coil over mounts (they can bend easy). They make a lot of aftermarket weld on reinforcements for these issues. -power steering rack. Big time fail point. With bigger tires and off road abuse it will fail. Need to upgrade to a tundra or land cruiser steering rack ($$) -the cab mount needs to be cut off the frame rails and re welded further back in order to clear bigger tires Rear axes , good. Engine/ trans ok for off road abuse.

The gas mileage is 23 around town, I am 6 miles out. I love the tech & old school cruise lever location. simple. I have a solid folding bed cover. The back has no seats, but is not an issue as it's just my wife & I. My only complaint is the pickup sits up high nut still have to duck my head getting in and out. People who keep up the maintenance on these have them for 300K+ miles. I dont follow the 10k miles oil change.. I do Every 5K or 6 months... My tacoma hasn't gotten driven much,.. I just got the same truck and color but I got the SR5 in September of 2022. It was MSRP for 38 & some change but they added close to 5% above due to the shortage out here in California even though it comes from Baja MX, so it was 44 out the door. I Just got my front windows tinted today but my vehicle don't have four wheel drive, I add running boards and Gator soft cover but I take it to the car wash almost every other day since I have a membership with unlimited car washes and I get a lot of compliments on my truck. My Toyota came with the black rims and it makes a big difference on the truck, I just got some cheap mods like the LED lights for the interior I'll probably get LED headlights and bigger tires but not for a couple years. I like the way your trucks look too because it's got the four wheel drive make sure you use it at least 10 minutes a month to exercise it in the right off-road conditions or down the road it will give you problems at least that's what Scotty Kilmer (mechanic)of RU-vid says . You know what sucks I had some teenage girl just hit my car 2 weeks ago and knock of driver side side mirror give me a couple scratches, which has lead to other problems trying to get it fixed only then led to bigger paint problems that I'm dealing with right now got to take it in to get an estimate or take it back to the paint shop place. Which I really don't want them to touch it since they screwed it up last time by not matching up the paint properly it's a little lighter doesn't have the darker metallic match so I can tell but my wife keeps telling me no it looks like it right...yeah right just be happy you don't have that problem like me...good videos man.

I have almost the same SR, just a slightly lighter color, and V4 non 4wd. I like it. I did exchange the steel rims for black aftermarket rims. It's almost shocking how much nicer it looks just from changing the rims out, completely changed it from an old man truck to something that looks pretty cool, even to my son, no need for other mods to alter the appearance. The steel wheels make it look like a truck from the 90s. I changed the interior bulbs to LEDs, which improves visibility, and someday I plan to install fog lights, because they make driving on rainy nights easier.

I just found your channel. Great review! Very honest and true review. I just bought a 2023 Tacoma SR 4x2 4 cyl Access Cab today! It will be here next week. I used to sell new Toyota’s years ago, and even back then, the Tacoma’s were very popular, mostly the base model with the 4 cyl, so I knew what I wanted already. I don’t haul big stuff or a lot of stuff, but it will definitely come in handy if I do. I had a 2000 Ford Explorer XLT and I loved it! It did everything I needed it to do and I had a 5x8 utility Trailer I pulled with it for those times I needed to haul something. It only had 147k miles on it, but unfortunately, something broke inside the motor, I still don’t know what it was, or why it broke since I take very good care of my vehicles, but the price for a new motor was too expensive for me to put in a 23 year old vehicle and I didn’t want to spend a bunch of money on a new fully loaded truck with an outrageous payment, so the Tacoma was perfect! It’s reliability and Toyota’s warranty and finance options made this truck perfect for my needs and budget!

Since you have the V6 (and yes I’ve done the same mods to my 23 TRD Off Road double cab V6), Install a K&N cold air intake (or at least a K&N air filter), FlowMaster FlowFX exhaust and an Overland Tailor Tune. These 3 mods will set you back about $2500-$3K, maybe. These 3 mod’s will Increase your horsepower, torque (range) and your mpg. They will Not void your warranty. The OTT, will STOP your transmission from “hunting” for the right gear. I’ve already reached out to Katzkin and they’re making me TRD Re Leather seat covers with black trim and stitching. After they remove my factory Black leather and replace them with the TRD Red Leather, my buddy (who also has a 23 TRD) has bought my black leather and will have it installed in his Taco, since he has gray cloth seats. After that is complete I’m having my White Tacoma 2 toned in Barcelona Red metallic following the body lines of my truck. I’ll also have it pinstriped. I have installed some interior trim pieces in TRD Red. The final mod will be choosing the right wheels for my Taco. I know that you said you can’t afford to put any mods into your Taco, but the fist 3 will pay for themselves in the long run. Enjoy your Tacoma. It’s my opinion that the 3rd Generation is the best

Super fun video! '22 SR5 I4 4WD Access cab long bed here. I consider most of your "cons" as "neutrals". But then I'm also comfortable with technical mods as I've done plenty on motorcycles and refurbished several cars, so those LED bar light screws would have gone into my parts bins, not the trash🤪 I agree with you about the look of our trucks; Clean stock lines (no fake scoops or extreme bumpers, etc.) and just the right ground clearance. I particularly enjoy the SR5 rims which match the body color on mine. As a used purchase I really snagged a rare gem with low milage. Never letting go of it. As for you rims I'd say "own that with pride", but if you got color-matched spray primer/paint rattle cans and did a proper job cleaning them you can upgrade the look for modest money. Black or chrome would also look slick. Keep the videos coming, you're very good at this.
