Funny story: I change bikes every 3 or 4 years so I was "forced" to upgrade to the Fx Sport 6 because my current bike is a dark grey trek so the 6 was the only one that would allow me to upgrade without having to answer the questions from my wife "is that a new bike?" Awesome bike btw

Great comparison! I keep toying around with the idea of upgrading my 10-year old Trek 7100. Looking at the FX Sport 5 but with added Redshift suspension (PA roads are horrid after all!).

Thank you for the video. Nice comparison! At the beginning of the video, you briefly show the FX Sport 5 in Red Carbon Smoke with another FX Sport (I assume) in blue leaning against the wall. However, it is clear the geometry of that bike is not the same as the current FX Sport models you are reviewing. The geometry is slightly different and is most noticable with comparing the size of the head tube? Which model is the bike leaning against the wall?
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB 2 года назад
So those bikes I displayed are actually from another video I made on my channel if you do want to see them more closely. They are indeed the same FX Sport models, the only reason they look different is because they are different sizes (small vs medium). Different frame size bikes will have slightly different geometry to accommodate different rider heights

Excellent comparison, I’m very interested in the FX6 Sport, I’ve always wanted a flat bar road/gravel bike & this bike is exactly what I’m looking for. I had a Domane SL6 but just couldn’t get comfortable on it for some strange reason. I’m a mtn biker, Stache 9 & 2021 Top Fuel 9.8, the flat bar look & feel is what I want to try for gravel, nice job, new sub here from Philadelphia!

I ended up getting the Fx Sport 4 in Dark Aquatic. Beautiful bike and is by far the best bike I have had coming from target “higher end” hybrid bikes. Bike is light, easily 4 LBS lighter than my Schwinn Hybrid Elite bike, easy to carry. It is fast and Agile while keeping me nice and upright and comfortable. This bike should last me a long time can can only imagine what the 6 series is like. Hope this is helpful!

Great review ! Very informative. This weekend I went out to look for a new bike to replace my aging Fuji hybrid bike. I want something much lighter than my 33 lbs Fuji, so I can go faster and go after some road hills like a road bike with less effort. I much refer the flat bar and not the drop bar. I looked at Cannandale, Specialized, and Trek. Between the great information and advises I received at the stores, my internet research, and this review from Talalipop, I placed the order for a FX Sport 6 version. Scheduled for late June arrival. Yes, high end FX S5 and S6 are not available around my area, supply chain issue hit all bike brands. Putin war criminal probably makes the situation worse. Slava Ukraine ! Oops, sorry, I digress.... Well, from a pure bang-for-your-buck point of view, IMHO, S6 is a better purchase than S5 or S4. The key reason: Bontrager Aeolus Elite 35, OCLV Carbon wheels which are part of only S6 model. These wheels are $1k if you purchase them separately. If you start with the S4 price and upgrade with these carbon wheels, you are already at that S6 price, not to mention all S6 upgrade parts. Similarly, if you start with the S5 price (parts are quite similar to S6) and upgrade with these carbon wheels, then you are over the S6 price tag. Note that all Carbon part of FX Sport are life time warrantee ! and 2 years warrantee of free repair or replacement if the wheels are damage even if your car accidentally ran over them. I have never spent this much money on a bike until now, but after 18 years of fitness biking, this is a great investment for my health. Looking forward to riding it, and adding many more years of fitness exercise. Good luck with your purchase. And thanks Talalipop !

Finally got my FX6 4 days ago, after 2.5 months wait. Did not come with Shimano brakes as advertised, so local Trek ordered and replaced with Shimano. Nice job. Day and night in comparison to my 8 yrs Fuji hybrid. 21 lbs vs 33 lbs. A lot less effort during acceleration and up hill. Carbon wheel is amazingly (crazy) light weight. Avg speed up by 2 MPH and shave off 10 min from 65 min trail ride, compare to the Fuji. Will try to ride on the road. Pedal and derailleur feel tight and precise. Rode test FX4 as well. Different might not be much between FX 4 and FX 6, but I just want to go all in. Much better value than Specialized counterpart. Glad I bought this FX 6. A keeper.

The trek site has the set of wheels that come with the 5 weighing at 560g each front or rear. Total weight would be 1120g for the pair. The 6 wheels on the same site weigh 745g front and 940g rear with a combined weight of 1685g. So explain how the wheels that come with the 6 are lighter and how the bike weighs less when everything else is the exact same. Even with the hubs included in the weight of the 5’s wheels it’s still less than what seems to be an additional 400g which puts the wheels still at a lesser weight on the Trek fx sport 5. Now I know this must be wrong because I own a 6 and it’s lighter than a 5 but it seems like the wheels at least on Treks site are not.

@Talalipop MTB. Nice video! I bought a 2023 FX3 last week ($1049) but decided I should have gotten the FX4 Sport instead to have the full carbon frame. Went back to the Trek Dealer but didn't really like the colors and that it had the same Deore components as the FX3 I was exchanging so I ordered a 2023 FX5 in Red Carbon Smoke for $2099. Do you think the 2023 Trek FX Sport 5 will be worth double the cost of the 2023 FX3 I had a week? I’m mostly a runner but plan on biking once a week between 15 to 50 miles. Thank you kind sir

Hi Talalipop ! I want to ask if the fx sport 5 car has size XS or not? Why the new version 2022 doesn't have iso speed ? Is the new frame better than the old fx sport 4? I noticed that the options of the old version fx carbon 4 2021 are the options of the new version fx sport 5 2022. The only difference is the new frame and no iso speed and the price increases by about $200. I just want to know if this new frame technology is better to replace iso speed or not? Thanks

Ice-Lectric Tesla, as a 2022 FX6 owner, I can tell you that the 4 is very capable as I rode it before going for the 6. You're paying for better components on the 6 and an even smoother ride. I consider resale value on these knowing that when and if I decide to upgrade, I'll get more for the top end model.
@jcadvanced

@@link-world but you clearly spent more to buy the higher end bike… I’m not sure which trim of the fox line would yield the most resale value % in return. But then again you get the bike that suits your budget and preferences.

Nice and comprehensive review. With that said, I just bought one of the very last remaining new 2021 FX Sport 4's left in the entire US. My FX will never leave pavement so I much prefer the narrower rims and 32C tires. Also the 2021 is a bit stretched out more and I am a tad more bent over then the 2022 model. The ISO speed decoupler smooths the ride somewhat and the GRX drivetrain is better then whats on the 2022 model equivalent. For its intended purpose the 2021 model is hands down the way to go. Its almost like my Madone but with a flat bar. In fact, the 2021 FX Sport Carbon 4 model frame is the same as earlier series Domane frames. I cannot understand the "gravel" concept. I have different bikes for different purposes. If I ever want to go the " gravel" route , I will ride my Fuel EX 8. Or the Verve 3. BTW one of the best things of the 2021 FX 4 Sport Carbon was the price. I drove almost 200 miles to get it but it was slightly over $700.00 off the original price. Sweet indeed.

Agreed, the 2021 model is great value. I got mine for $1450 earlier this year and have since upgraded to Hunt 34 Aero Wide wheels, 44t Wolftooth chainring, and Conti GP 5000 tires and it’s almost as fast as my road bike. I also picked up a second wheel set (Hunt All Road) fitted with 35mm Gravel King SS tires and am planning to take it on light gravel.

I've been riding a road bike but rarely ride with my hands down on the bottoms of the handle bars, I usually ride with my hands around the top edges..so why have drop bars if I'm not using them? I test rode an FX4 but it was a Med frame, we determined I need a Large..which would kinda improve my position and how it feels. I'm going back there tomorrow as they have assembled an FX3 and a FX 2 in Large. But now I'm pretty sure I want a Sport 4, 5 or 6, not just because of the lighter weight, but I'm really bothered by the rough pavement on the streets, they say carbon feels smoother than aluminum. Between the 4 and the 5 there is only about $300 difference so like he says at the end of this video the 5 seems to be the best choice (I like the dark blue better btw). But I been reading lots of comments here and at a bike forum, and those which bought the FX 6 all rave about how happy they are with them, "they are fast and fun, etc".

The LBS here is honoring my deposit for the 2021 model, so in effect, I will be paying for the price of 2021 model but am getting the 2022 model! Sounds good to be true? We'll see if the Store Manager will fulfill his promise. Will update this comment once I get the bike.

I ended up getting the FX 4 because I wanted the broader dynamic range (46/11=4.18) more than anything else. Yeah, the gear steps are larger but that comes mostly from the 1x. BUT, I am looking to figure out a gear combo that will give me the 5x+ range of the higher end cassettes. It seems you may be suggesting a solution to this problem. Is that correct? I ride 75% on road, 25% on dirt/gravel, some pretty steep hills in the Bay Area and Tahoe. So FX 4, as built, gives you low gear 42/11=3.82 and high 42/26=0.91

After endlessly researching bikes and getting ready to buy...and then endlessly searching for a Cannondale Quick Cx1 or a Specialized Diverge E5 Comp EVO, which don't exist for sale in this world...i stumbled upon the Trek FX4 Sport Carbon Lithium Gray. I thought it was a pretty good comparable bike to what i was looking at, plus the store had 1 left in stock so that is what i ended up with. I have had for it week now. Def don't have any complaints but i don't have any experience to compare to other bikes. I did read that the FX4 is using less quality parts then the year prior which is disappointing to learn.

Correct. A few of the components from 2021 model is the same as 2023 FX5 and 6 I believe. But you do have a new beefier frame but without the isospeed for whatever that’s worth to you. Enjoy!

Tried a 2022 FX 4 a few days back and found it had a very clean look, decent kit, and an extremely smooth ride - even across a grassed park during my limited test. But I found the bike's prominently upright riding position off putting coming from my 10 year old, Can 0 Ale Quick CX1. In retrospect during that 30 minute ride I felt no pain, even forever my messed up right palm/wrist. Hey, maybe it is time for a switch up? I wonder about riding this for a 25 mile ride - any experiences?

I put on 53 miles on a ride a few weeks ago on my FX6. Due the design and riding position, you just don't tire easily and deal with pain from the riding position. This bike is extremely comfortable for long distance riding, truly the best bike to date I've ever owned for distance riding.

@@allanharris4281 I've seen your posts on other related videos for the FX. I can tell you're extremely interested in the bike, lol. I can tell you that this is not a road bike as the frame, seating position and overall stance is not aggressive, but you can make it that way somewhat depending on your riding position. I just completed another 30 mile this morning and enjoyed the ride once again. I've never had a bad ride on the FX6. I like this bike so much that I purchased a 2023 FX4 Sport Carbon for my wife yesterday evening. We'll be going on an early am ride tomorrow to break hers in. @seemovielove3597
@seemovielove3597 Год назад
2x only help you for climbing hills if you have the same cassette and same large chainring on 1x drive train. To compensate for that, the single drive train needs more low gear on the cassette. That is why the new bike just uses 1 x drive with 12 speeds to quick change the gear and less cost than dual crank drive system

Fx sports 5, 2022 model is a horrible bike in every way. How could Trek produce this piece of crap...having created such a great bike in the previous FX sports 5 model. Why is everyone trying to make us believe we are privileged to have a smaller range of gears? The sitting position is just too upright to generate speed. I went back to my BMC Alpine today, a 700 dollar bike, and it beats this new trek hands down. I'm talking road riding but I'm sure this new model can't suddenly transform itself from it's slothful self when it's running on gravel.

Talalipop, great video explaining the differences. One question to ask as I just got off the phone with Trek Support a few minutes ago. If you were to have an FX4 Carbon go head to head with an FX6 Carbon for overall speed, which bike would have a higher top end speed, provided the riders are of equal weight and cycling ability? It almost sounds as of the 4 is faster but the 6 may be faster overall, because it's lighter? Can you provide a factual answer on this?
@TalalipopMTB
@TalalipopMTB 2 года назад
Thank you! Did you ask them that question as well? I have not tested it but I would bet the FX Sport 6 to be faster because of the lighter weight overall and the lighter wheels which are also more aerodynamic. It would at the least accelerate faster from the start.
@link-world
@link-world 2 года назад
@@TalalipopMTB I didn't, I'm just going to get out there and ride the FX6 when I receive the notification it's ready for pickup. If it's not as fast I would like it to be, I'll just upgrade the front chain ring in the future. I'm really after the carbon rims. I have a 2021 Procal 9.7 for the off-road trails and the lightness of that bike has absolutely spoiled me. Out of all the bikes I've ever had over the years, the 9.7 is by far the most fun to ride to date.

@@TalalipopMTB Wouldn't at these speeds overall aero be more important? Constant power output. In other words, do you think the aero of the FX6 is significantly better than the FX 4? i.e. better than the 5% difference in the top gear ratios - 40/11 vs 42/11?
@link-world

@@svilentzonev8018 I'm not quite sure about the numbers and don't have a scientific answer for this one but I do know that I am very impressed with the speed of this bike. The bike is amazingly light and quick. For the close to 200 miles I've put on mine thus far, this one is definitely a keeper, even with the 40 tooth chainring for now. When riding on the flats, I have one remaining gear to use if I wanted to go faster. I find that I'm averaging 18/19 mph on the flats at a good clip. That is good enough for me. I'm no roadie by any means, but this bike can flat out cover distance quickly!
