10:20 I thought the same as you about blind spot radar until just a couple of days ago when I nearly wiped myself out. Just the slight last split-second peripheral vision of that car and the car itself moving slightly saved my arse. My fault as I should have taken more care. That has never happened before in 40 years of riding and hopefully I've learnt my lesson. Re cruise control radar. It's good in an automatic car on a highway where you are basically stuck behind traffic, but I don't see the need on a motorbike where you are much more maneuverable.
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes Год назад
Very true, I don't doubt it will be useful, but choosing that over the radar cruise seems a bit of a miss for me. I use the radar cruise on my bike on long trips, and it's a dream. It's really well adapted to the bike so will adjust where it's looking as you lean etc. Also the quickshifter doesn't disengage the cruise on the bike too meaning you can change up and down gears without it dropping the cruise

Funny old world mate. I rode the tiger twice and found it quite vibey over the KTM! I went with the KTM SAS as ya know.. definitely the right decision for me! I, like you would have it over the GS! But the SAS is my clear winner.
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes Год назад
Ahh wow! Interesting! There's definitely an element to how you ride it. The SAS loves to actually be ridden, use the gears etc which is way more preferable for my riding style! I love the GS but I'm just a bit bored of it.. its pretty much the same as it was 6 years ago with a few small changes. This new Tiger is a big difference from the old one which is a fresh change! Defo the SAS though 💪🏼
@brucecutts8841
@brucecutts8841 Год назад
I agree absolutely about the blind spot issue - ACC is a far better use of a radar system. Anything that breaks the habit of life saver checks is a bad idea. Even more surprising that they chose to not add ACC when all of the competitors will soon have it (the new 1300GS for example).
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes Год назад
Definitely! Apparently they did market research with their customer base and the majority said they weren't bothered about ACC, but surely if you're going to add the weight, make it an option at least!!
@DaleMt09sp

@@SamVBikes as you said be nice if they focused on just making a good bike not something to beat the bmw you’d probably end up with a better bike in the long run
@brucecutts8841
@brucecutts8841 Год назад
@@SamVBikes Yes I heard that, the problem is unless you have tried ACC you don't thing you need it or want it and as ACC is quite new to the bike market their customer base were unlikely to want ACC. They asked the wrong people the wrong question. I suspect they will have to play catch-up and introduce it to compete with BMW Ducati and KTM and soon.
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes Год назад
Agreed! Even with bikes like the Tracer 900 GT+ having it as well.. they will be at a big loss if they don't introduce it soon!

@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes 4 месяца назад
Both will be brilliant. The 1290 would be better for the long distances to get down there, and the 1050xt would probably be more nimble in the mountains. I do love the 1290 on tight roads though as the power out of the corner is great fun. Either will do a brilliant job!

Good comparison this, another cracking vid - I've ridden and / or owned my fair share of twins, from the Desmo Multistrada, BMW Boxer, we had an Africa Twin Blood Bike (which I was surprisingly in love with) then to the smoother inlines of the BMW XR and the FJR1300 Blood Bike. I haven't ridden a triple but much prefer the Twins overall, yes they're somewhat 'agricultural' especially the BMW, but my KTM SAS is by far my favourite - so much character in all settings, very much like you said, it satisfies my inner idiot / child 😂
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes Год назад
Thank you bud! Yes I do love a smooth triple or inline4, but there's something about the way a Twin just shoves you down the road.. you want a 3rd gear power wheelie? Sure, here you go! 😂 I do prefer a triple to an inline 4 though, it's got a bit more about it!

Bike performed well over the passes etc. Had too many niggles. A coolant leak from day one which took ages to sort. Then a massive vibration developed at 4,000 revs (enough to vibrate my feet off the pegs). Got 'key out of range' warnings making fuel stops nervously when you need to switch off the motor to fill up. It was in the workshop for around 5 weeks in total of the 16 weeks I had it. Had similar electrical issues with my 1200 Super Duke R, got rid also. The Tiger is really impressive, I would say better than the GSA. As soon as he took it out the pocket, it worked straight away. Tried putting my key in his jacket and my bike wouldn't see it either. The Tiger is very flexible in any gear and at any speed although occasionally can be a little harsh at 4000 in 6th gear. Triumph too top heavy for my liking. Be interesting to see new GS with low centre of gravity Hard for me to go against KTM, I'm waiting for the GT Gen 3 but reckon my current 2020 GT is gonna be remapped before next riding season starts

Yeah definitely interested to see what the new GS is going to be like. I heard a rumour of a 1250 adventure style, and a 1300 more powerful version to compete with the Multi and SAS.. either way should be good! Have you seen the spy shots of the new SuperDukeGT? Not sure I like it, but that might change when it's out

@@SamVBikes saw the spy shots but couldn't make much of them. Will have to wait for the release As you know KTM eventually heavy discount, so won't jump at it straight away Other thing is low centre of gravity whick the Super Adventure has is a big selling point for me, wonder if KTM will do Pikes Peak take off 17 inch front wheel - that would interest me

Yes very true! The low centre of gravity is fantastic especially in traffic! I'd love to see a PP version but I couldn't bring myself to buy one. I'd rather just buy a SuperDuke ha

It's a Triumph! I think they are all like that. I couldn't find an option for it to be dialable like the KTM. If it's on, it's very aggressive and the dash lights up like a Christmas tree! (Relevant timing for that metaphor!). My friends Tiger 900 is exactly the same!
@shegocrazy
@shegocrazy Год назад
@@SamVBikes I've seen it done but you have to be really trying to do it rather than just twist the throttle. I can see reasons why Triumph did that but I'd like them to also allow us to decide on hooligan mode or not lol.

Agreed! It's odd that brands give the option to turn off traction control, but it's not completely off too!
@shegocrazy
@shegocrazy Год назад
@@SamVBikes I just checked the 1200 gt pro manual and there is a selectable option in off-road mode to turn off traction control. Most of the other road modes have separate menu option to turn off traction control. Triumph is basically saying in on-road modes..."are you sure you want to do that?" lol. A bit like windows OS saying "are you sure you want to permanently delete this folder?"
@SamVBikes
@SamVBikes Год назад
@@shegocrazy Yes! My friend has to do the same on his Tiger 900! I still think its just on or off though, no scalable option. So you cant have it more or less intrusive as far as im aware

Almost a decade in production, and there's still no way to tell what a particular ktm unit reliability depends on. It looks very much like some units are made on completely different assembly lines than the others, judging by how one may have thousands of trouble free smiles, whereas the other one of same year, model, color etc. starts falling apart just after first corner from the dealership.
@SamVBikes

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to just be KTM anymore. The amount of technology on bikes now is causing more issues than its solving. So many shared components which need to talk to each other in a specific way just means they are prone to issues. Heard many stories in the last year of Triumphs, BMWs, Ducatis and even Hondas with relentless issues

You can still get a feel for them as the general bikes are the same besides suspension and having wire wheels. I've also taken my road-bias SA off-road more than most owners take their off-road bias ones!
