Dear Charlie, Somehow RU-vid removed you from my 'Notifications' but I picked up a later video dated today in my feed. Anyway, very happy to have you back and very much hope you're both doing well and feel inspired to make and share projects with us. Just want to say in your absensent that I have been making good use of your archives and so glad we may see you add to them. Anyway thanks so much and 73 from the States!

Great to have you back! The future projects sound great. I have the low cost Chinese auto tuner, never thought about moving to the LCD display to cure the noise.

Check out the comment below. The tuner instructions talk about how to make the change. You'll need a programmer too.

Good to see you back in action Charlie. I found the transition to a paddle very hard but I think I am getting there. Lots of practice with a Palm Paddle and more recently with a heavier bench paddle. There are some nice 3D printed keys around, no need to mortgage the house to get a shiny Italian job, unless you want to!

Charlie, Glad to see you are posting projects again. I really have learned a lot from your work and look forward to every one of them. I have successfully built the SI5452 VFO using your software, but with the project on the DSB 80/40 rig you did 2 years ago, I am experiencing some minor trouble. The LCD display gives me the proper freq and callsign, but also adds "? 0 0? __ _" I have not been able to find where this is coming from. Any suggestions would be appreciated. 73 Bill, AB5XQ

So glad you're back; it made my day when I saw your new video. I'm building the T41 DSP radio now, and it calls for relays that cost ~$4 each at Digikey, but the ATU 100 you built and the relay board you have use relays that cost like $0.35. I'd be interested if you did some characterization of losses, or distortion, caused by the cheap relays in your tuner project, to see if there is a reason to spend the bucks for a relay with a datasheet. Thanks, Kevin NY3F
@CharlieMorrisZL2CTM

I'll be interested to see too. At NZD14 I have to give it a go. It might not be the fastest, but I'm sure it will work. Time will tell.

Hi Charles glad to see your video today! I was wondering about you. Congratulations on the new QTH and new shack. I would love to rework one of those ATUs with a 2x16 lcd because I can’t hardly see the OLED ones. Good to know about the noise generated by the OLED. I would like to make it look military style with protection handles with the ability to run on internal batteries. Plus ability to operate between 32-18 with is the voltage most US military equipment must be able to operate at. Just for fun and learn you understand I know. Glad you are doing well 73’s Don

Hi Charlie, I’d strongly recommend the twin paddle keyer over a single paddle even though there’s only 8 (I think) characters that use it. It’ll be harder to convert to twin from single. There’s plenty of sketches out there for them too so no point in reinventing the wheel.
@CharlieMorrisZL2CTM
@CharlieMorrisZL2CTM 2 года назад
I hear you Mark. I've looked at lots of videos and put some thought into it. Right or wrong, I'll probably go with the single paddle for now. I hope you'll forgive me!

The tuner you showed- does it require more than 5 watts to tune?
@CharlieMorrisZL2CTM

Yes. That is one of the N7DDC tuners. This one is the default 100W version, which needs around 5W to work. My homebrew one will a lot less than this.

Hi Chris, I'm aged 77 and a refugee from the analog world. I've also built many qrp xcvrs and am also trying to get to grips with this Arduino, Si5351 stuff to replace LC/ varicap local oscillators. The hardware looks simple enough - the problem `I have is the material on the software is clearly written by people with an IT/ programming background.
