My 2022 WRX is finally protuned! We got the ‪@BurgerMotorsports‬ intake installed and worked with Ecotech Import Automotive and Boosted Performance to get a protune dialed in. I want to thank Ecotech and Boosted Performance for all the work they did on the car and helping me get a fantastic protune for my 2022 WRX. We used E40 and really woke up the car! I cant believe how much extra power the car is making. Even with a 93 tune the car is making tremendous power! I cant wait till we can get more parts for the car like a downpipe. If you are in the St. Louis area you definitely want to check out Ecotech for all your tuning needs! If you want to talk to an amazing tuner check out Graham at Boosted Performance located in Iowa or just give them a ring.

@@KasamTK for parts I spent about $200 on a used accessport , paid the $150 to upgrade it to the '22. Then the intake I got on sale for $350 during black Friday. The tune was free because they sponsored my build....which normally would be maybe 400-600. So potentially you're looking at $1200 or so for +100hp/tq almost. Which is a damn good price vs performance. Etune would be cheaper but the experience of going to the Dyno is worth it if you've never been.

Earned a new sub! Love that you're exploring what this car has to offer. The new WRX has really flown under the radar for a multitude of reasons, but Subaru made a lot of engineering improvements that result in a MUCH better car. Enthusiasts really have a treat with this thing and I'm curious to see how these play out reliability wise. Though the STI is gone (for now), I'd like to see a performance package to alleviate some of the concerns in the braking department and make this a better all-around car for street/track duty.

@@ianholmquist8492A lot of people keep making the mistake and not understanding that STI and WX were trims. The real icon is the Impreza. All the WRX and STI are impreza with performance packages. The STI is great. Don't get me wrong. The WRX that came out in 2015 was a good contender to the previous WRX. This new one is not meant to replace the STI which is what everybody keeps thinking and that's wrong. It's made to replace the old WRX and the generational gap between the two has risen as it should with new technology. The point of the conversation between the STI versus the new WRX is how much that gap has been closed. The STI is now going on 30-year-old technology. You can hate the way that it looks but mechanically denying what it can do is only ignorance.

The biggest thing I'm excited for is Cobb said that there may very well be a CARB compliant flex fuel kit coming very soon....running higher ethanol count is going to help power significantly. The price vs performance value for ethanol is very high compared to hard parts. It's gonna be another $2k to get a jpipe, intercooler, and hard pipe where as flex kit is probably gonna be $400-500. The stock tune pulled about 220 g/s near redline. It was also about 8% lean after the CL/OL transition. So with a correction to the stock tune, the airflow would actually be reading around 240 g/s. As for the revisions of maps afterward, I don't have those logs and honestly can't tell you.

Hey Awais, Dropped a Sub! There are a few reasons why I don't think you are doing the STI justice. Now granted I haven't seen any other videos but in this one you mentioned that at some point people have to realize Subaru made a better car. I would say Subaru made a more tunable car. The only fair comparison imo would be a 21 STI and a 22 WRX. The 2 liter FA is never gonna have the torque that a 2.4 Liter FA does just because of displacement. Now that being said apples to apples the VA STI is still a better car than the VB WRX, there I said it. You mentioned the WRX as a "package". While I can see shorter gear ratios being better at some point that trans case is gonna show some weakness more than likely before the engine goes boom. The carbon 1st and 2nd gear synchros will help but that case is still a modified 5 speed case and doesn't compare to the STI case with regard to strength if I recall correctly. Your comparison is also related to numbers, which in the case of this car are wildly skewed from the factory and for sure don't tell the whole story. I'd like to see both the STI and your WRX on track and see how they do. The STI as a whole package is a far superior car imo. With better suspension components, a six speed, and brembo brakes the STI is gonna outperform the WRX. The STI also imo has a nicer interior than the new WRX, maybe not the GT but you can't get that with a manual so... I appreciated the content and look forward to more, but don't think that you adequately acknowledge the best aspects of the STI and only related the WRX and it in straightline speed. To which I would say, the STI has never been an easy car to make fast in a straight line. Good luck and hope to meet you on the roads someday. Once I swap my six speed into my 207 swapped bugeye and have Adam tune it maybe we can go for a ride. Old school to new school style!!!
@HeavyMetalWRX
@HeavyMetalWRX Год назад
I appreciate everything you said here and keeping me honest to my words. I think it's very important when having these conversations online to stick to what we believe. I went back and watch my video again(becuase even I didn't remember what I said 😂) and I said "Subaru made a better WRX". I have nothing but love for Subarus and I wanted a '22 STi. Since we didn't get one and I test drive a '22 WRX it really was better than a VA WRX in every way. On a track I do believe the STi has a much bigger advantage for the reasons you listed, no doubt. I would also be curious how a STi does on the track and will be conducting those tests this spring for sure! When it comes down to the straight line speed the new WRX is much closer to a STi than older WRX. I have noticed that the gearing for 1-4 is almost the same ratio as a STi. The engine is making close to the wheel what a STi makes. Of course the brakes are doodoo on a WRX and we don't have a center diff (I'm gonna sti transmission swap as soon as my transmission blows hah) and a few other things like the stiffer suspension. I am willing to bet that it's cheaper to graft a SIMILAR experience to a STi with the '22 than it was with the 15-21. The power numbers we got on the Dyno are on par with what everyone else has been getting. The car is definitely not making 271 to the crank which Subaru definitely pulled a Volkswagen and underreported. I am going to continue as much real world testing I can between the two cars. So stick around and definitely continue to keep me honest. I'm here to further the conversation 😎

The FA 24 was impressive from the moment that Prime swapped it into the crosstrek and beat the ever livin daylights out of it at close to 500 WHP. I think as a "package" the STI is better, but I am a bit biased having owned a 17 STI for a year. I have had the internal debate STI vs WRX for many years just thought I would share my thoughts. @@pullinstringsarchery don't get me wrong if they released a WRX and STi for 22 I would have gotten the STi haha no bias here! The WRX has always been a fun alternative to throw some money at and watch it grow into its own. As for the RTV issue there have been so many pics and videos showing the different style of pickup than the BRZ. We talked about it at the shop and basically it's not a MAJOR issue. Subaru should fix it imo, but if they don't we think whenever an aftermarket pickup is available that's the time to have a reputable shop drop the pan , clean it up and I stall the new pickup. For now there's no issue...especially when we were on the Dyno, nothing looked out of the ordinary. Still ...time will tell but if something happens believe me, youll know haha

The only thing I wish my '22 had (I have an 18 as well so I can be a pretty fair judge here), is the STI transmission cause that thing is stout. I have a feeling that the weak point on these cars is going to be that transmission. I take it you spoke to both tuners & shop's about part recommendations and power. With that being said I was wondering if you could answer a question I have regarding that. I see a lot of results ranging from 300 horsepower to as as much as about 500hp. My goal is over 400 wheel horsepower and even more torque (400-500). This seems very doable with the right tuner shop and parts and I already have the first two. That being said here is my question: which parts generate the most horsepower? Namely but not only, in terms of increasing airflow and removing restriction. Cannot confirm but word on the street is that j pipe is one of the biggest restrictions. I don't want to waste my time with a top mount intercooler a blow off valve in a boost controller it's none of those are actually needed to meet my power goals. I want to start with the bare minimum. So yeah parts that make the biggest difference. If you do not know the answer the question that is okay you could ask your tuner and shop and get back to me.
@HeavyMetalWRX
@HeavyMetalWRX Год назад
Well there is another part of the equation you are missing here. Some of the cars that are over 400hp are not customers cars or are cars the customer has said "ignore all warnings and go for max power". My car could have made more hp and torque but we kept it here for now to see how things go. You've seen videos of Mike Botty with intake, fmic, turboback and e50 hit over 400hp but Mike is going to destroy that car. That's the point, to find the weaknesses. So long answer short, you want any intake (burger and ETS perform the same), any turbo back (Only ETS is available but there have been people with custom made ones) and a front mount intercooler(of your plan is to go absolutely balls to the wall). Then it comes down to who is tuning. I know that people are saying 400tq is ok but the REAL answer is no one knows for sure yet. The numbers will come based on your ethanol and sometimes even how well put together your car was at the factory( think CPU/GPU binning). This may not have been the answer you're looking for but I don't want to bullshit you and say "yea just put this on and you'll make 4xx HP". I plan on doing a whole video about this with my tuner as well so we can answer some of these questions from the community. Stick around and I may have more answers for you in the near future

@@HeavyMetalWRX they can handle 400whp dynojet safely. The engine is beefed up for it. In the fa20 it was rods as the first failure point. They were weak. The new ones are literally TWICE at thick, and so are the cylinder walls. Twice a thick. Beehive springs give us an extra 500rpm and better valve train efficacy. The engine is naturally torquey. With ft/lbs almost always higher than whp. I've seen +50 torque on the regular and +75-100 at times. I agree about finding the bugs and tuner shops pushing to the max to find failure. I haven't heard what our safe max is. Or what fails first. You would think prime might know by now. They've been at the fa24 for well over a year now. I also agree that to a degree it depends on the exact car. Most are the same but on the small variable fringe you will have hp freaks and some earlier failures. But the vast majority will fall under the same umbrella. An agreed upon safe max, and a initial mechanical component of failure. I even wonder if the injectors can fit the safe max without maxing out IDC. It wi be close but I think they will make it. I've run a stock motor STI at 450whp with no issues for years. Then an IAG stage 2 in it. Only rated for 495ft/lbs brake HP. I made 513ft/lbs to the wheels. And it was my DD and only car. And yes I drove spiritedly often. But never put anyone at risk. My engine never failed. I but 40k on over 500whp. Point is what manufacturers, tuner, shops, and staged short block manufacturers are going to err on the safe side. This could very well be the difference of 50-100whp. Now Corbin, of Johnson tuning, is a >12x world record holding tuner for Subaru and Ford most famously. Out of turn in concepts, and fathouse fabrications. He's a top 3 Subaru/Ford tuner in the nation. I've been with him, and Subaru's for over a decade. I trust him completely. He's likely going to push a safe early findings max and then a revision for a safe max once we have more data on failure. But his tune will be stronger than most. It always is. And yet he knows exactly how far to push it and stop. And the safe max is not measured in horsepower but in ft/lbs of torque. Happy tuning! Keep me posted! I'll do the same. Wish you were local. I'm in Phoenix. Plan to move to Florida, or Cincinnati (family) sooner than later.

I am enjoying watching everyone push the engine further and further. I agree with you about everything related to the engine. The rods being 40% thicker is the biggest hurdle we had to overcome from the FA days. Right now 400tq is basically being handed out freely with ethanol and an intake. I could have made 400tq but we came down a bit with e40 instead of e50. Probably erring on the side of caution. I will be following a lot of tuners and actually have a video planned collecting all the numbers I've seen so far so people can have a good idea of what offerings are on the table ( whether conservative or max powaaahh). @@HeavyMetalWRX thanks for always replying. Follow up on a RU-vid channel in terms of comments is huge for channel growth. I'm of the opinion letter j pipe shouldn't cost $1,000 so I'm going to hold off on the ETS Jay Pipe which is the only one I'm aware of. Yeah my tuner said he wants to start with e 50 and see how it does play it by ear. Easy tuning for me so lots of testing and data logging. But make no mistake Corbin give some of the vesi tunes of the world. I've personally hit Dino days where his vdr was within 1 horsepower of actual. That's AMAZING. Anyways does your tuner say that an intake is necessary to create that power? I know generally it is but nowadays you can't just make that assumption even in the old EJ 400 horsepower to the wheels and under an aftermarket intake was considered superfluous because the stock one could handle that.
