For us mere mortals we mostly use the car for A-B driving but those reviewers expect rear wheel driving, can it drift, can it track etc... not exactly down to earth people
Have ordered a EX Midnight blue. Went in to look at a 5 year old second hand Hyundai Tucson that was 4k more and came out with this based on warranty, features and price.
The steering has normal and sport mode. If you do not like normal steering mode, change into sport steering which tightens up the experience. Also, in the new cherys the breakpads takes a bit to drive in but is brilliant once you broke it in properly.
We test drove it over the weekend. I can confirm the braking was not good. You have to press it really hard to get it to stop. However, apart from that the car looks good and feels like a good quality. Especially for the price they were asking for
We have one on order for the wife. Took it for a drive twice and while it's not exactly sports handling we didn't find the steering as loose as you describe. Overall it's a good value for money proposition and the amount of tech you get for 35k for the EX plus the 7 yr warranty and it's pretty unbeatable.... but yes, you have to turn the lane assistance off, it's terrible!
I am not a racer and what I need from a car is comfort, safety and good entertainment. I actually love the omoda 5. Very comfortable and has everything that I need. More actually. No complaints.
Braking is not good and the car was on recall, however, the recall was not handled properly in fact it is shocking. Chery dint even know how to repair their own car. My advise to anyone is, don't buy this car unless you want to throw away your money. Also, the brakes aren't the only thing that doesn't work, this car has countless issues all around. I will provide a list of the issues on a video, I will post soon
I can see the poor review of the suspension and handling. But Chinese cars actually have great safety features and I blame Tesla for the low safety warning standards that most people have gotten used too. The car shouldn't just let you sleep at the wheel until you happen to rear-end another car.
My asx was said to have terrible steering too but for me it is great so need more convincing on this. Also, another review claimed actual fuel cons. was about 8 l/100klm not 12.3 so??

I heard an AWD Omoda 5 is also expected for Ozzyland. The AWD Omoda C5 is already available in Russia. It uses a 1.6-litre turbo engine, but the Russian version produces 110kW. I assume the Ozzy version will be 147kW.
Exactly same as my feeling of test drive. It looks very good but when you drive it on the road, the steering is so terrible. Lane keeping system looks smart but it is like battling with the driver for the steering wheel, that's too weird. Yes, the brake is not hard and responsive, but I am ok with the soft feeling. Finally, for the price you mentioned is not drive-away price, the cheaper model is about $32,690, so not that competitive like haval Jolion especially considering these bad points. So I may change my mind to buy a new jolion although I have preordered this omoda 5. BTW, it's refundable 😂
I find new car reviews quite funny when people point out the things they don't like I always think most people buying a cheaper brand new vehicle are probably upgrading from a 10+ year old vehicle so won't mind the things that new car reviewers don't like
Criticise a Chinese car is politic correct and suits their business interest for some people, meanwhile I would say who give a s**t about how many years and cars you have driven, you should feels humble about this manufacture do actuarially cares and bring such honesty and reliable product to your down-under market which is so tiny & over inflationed
Did a test drive today and that back mirror gave me a car sickness. Your eye vision changes like trying someone elses glasses. This review is so honest and crystal clear as that's how I felt with Emergency lane thingy. That force is too strong and felt like i was playing daytona game. Just my personal experience so please go and test drive
Who the heck need lane assist? Lot of silly complaints after a weekend. Cherry cars drive much better after 5000kms when it’s driven in. Follow the manual…it will help with your review.
About the steering feel’s too light, in Australia model can you check in if it can be adjusted from the setting in the infotainment system. In other country model, one of a car reviewer mentioned about setting of the steering weight, lighter or heavier. It’s worth a try if it really is adjustable in the setting.
Wow that car looks stunning, but it looks really similar like one in Indonesia, ah just forgot that all right steering wheel omoda was made in Indonesia..
Looks good BUT I think I’d go for a used mazda cx5..Aren’t Haval and Chery both part of GREAT WALL? I’ve heard that a Chinese car manufacture is a bit hit and miss when it comes to rust protection… apparently India and China are the two countries where galvanising isn’t used for the domestic market and its a bit sketchy if it’s used for non domestic cars!
got this to borrow from insurance for two weeks, steering is very light abit too light, hooked a corner at 60kms and car felt so unsafe. Handling is terrible but besides that overall good A to B car
The characteristics of this car sold in Turkey is completely different. It does not come with CVT but double clutch, 290 newton tork and 183 horse power. 1.6 liter turbo engine. Performance is better than most cars here, well maybe better than 90% of cars sold in Turkey, except premium versions of bmw mercedes audi etc.
what i noticed of this car lower light react to your steering turning which i find it very nice to have. Is like letting drive's front people to see where this car is about to turn. So is like in night time on road when you turn left the lower left light on to give u more vision from side.
Such a classic aussie this guy. You gotta review the car more objectively. Go stick with Toyota bro, with 1980s never changed classic design, digital radio, physical buttons and most importantly AWD
Thanks for the review.I am strongly considering purchasing one but the only thing holding me back is unknown service issues and parts availability. With Chery being new to the Australian market, how soon will they be able to fix and get it back on the road should something unforeseen happen? Keen to hear your thoughts. Also, is the suspension as bad as what the other reviewers are making it to be?
Cheery have been here before and left Can you live with a dangerous lane assist that can’t be turned off permanently, drinks like a V8 and terrible brakes?
@@chefgav1 I thought the lane assist could be turned off (I remember attempting that during one of the test drives). Yes, the fuel consumption seemed quite high. I did factory reset on the odometer and kept an eye on the fuel consumption, surprisingly it started at 9L but then dropped down to 8L - which is still quite high. Haven't heard about the brakes being an issue before, thats a first.
@dannson yap The 230T on back is suv means nothing do your our research you'll see it's 210Nm torque as mentioned.. Very average turbo engine performance & NOT class leading in this competitive new small SUV segment at all...!
Red lipstick on a pig! The tacky glitz and long warranty can’t hide the terrible handling, terrible steering, terrible braking, obtrusive lane assist and shocking fuel economy. Berry I usually agree with your reviews but can’t fathom how such an unsafe and unstable vehicle rates 7.3……maybe 3.7 at best!
on paper these Chinese cars look good, but once you drive them you can tell they are built to achieve a price point....there is a long way for them to go until they reach up to the standards of Kia and Hyundai let along anything European
Great 👍 Review !! Terrible fuel consumption I’d choose a more hybrid type vehicle over this even though they’re more expensive because the fuel saved with hybrid will make up for the savings on this gas guzzler.
When one buys a car you expect it to drive safely and reliably- all the basics of a car - lane keeping, steering, braking - just have to work Infotainment- good looks- those are frostings on a cake Good video because i can now be extra careful around them
