I just installed my set after watching your video, I didn't have to depin or anything to get the harness through that tight spot. If you put the red part of the clip facing up and stick it between the two plastic tube like pieces that hold the plastic rails down it will go in. It takes a little bit of pushing and wiggling but it fits perfect and looks much cleaner :)
Thanks for this! My bed lights were installed by the dealership (the truck was ordered by another customer who decided he didn't want it when it arrived.) Nobody at the dealership showed me how those lights worked. I was actually going to take it in to see why the lights didn't work. There's nowhere in the owners manual that explains how the bed lights work.
Thank you so much for this video!!! I dremmeled out just a little material to run the lights into the access hole that was too small. This was so much better than your option as it hid the wires better.
Thank you for the video, made it easy to find a good place to power mine up. I used some Amazon ones and an existing bed hole that fit my switch perfectly.. Gonna look for a tailgate type switch to replace the supplied switch, so when I open tailgate it turns on the lights. Just don't wanna forget one day and kill my battery..
In order to get them through the intended port hole, you have to decouple the clip from the top of the pin with a small flathead (careful not to break it off), then remove the red slider piece. Once the red slider has been removed from the clip, you can get it through there and then reassemble on the other side.
Can you release the wires from the connector then then reinstall the connector from underneaths once you pass it through the bed sidewall? Typically those connectors are pretty easy to release the wires. I ordered this kit and will try to do this on my install.
@@brianfredricks9234 if you Google De pin molex there are tons of videos. It took me forever to figure it out but once I did one wire it was very easy for the other 5. Make sure you take a picture so you rewire in the correct order. Lesson learned the hard way. Harbor freight sells de pinner or you can use a thin paper clip. The clip you have to lift to pull the wire has to lift just a hair and the wire comes right out. Takes some patience getting the first one. However worth it. The finished product is much cleaner running the wire properly.
Thanks for the video! Very informative. I imagine using that side grommet hole to route the wiring won't look very nice if you have a spray-in bedliner. If the wires don't release easily from the clip I would almost be inclined to cut the wire, run down through the intended hole, then splice back up with waterproof wire nuts/connectors, tape up real good and tie wrap to the harness underneath.
There are instructions for this if you have access to the GM service information page. Not sure who gets access to that. But they have an entire accessories installation section
I am attempting to install bed lights in my 2023 Colorado Z71 with a switch, utilizing the plug that you are using. Although I am using the oem pigtail to connect the rocker switch. I tested and had power to the switch and after soldering my connections, no power. Do you know the fuse location? Thank You, You do an excellent job with your videos.
Is this kit backward compatible with the second gen Colorado? I have a 2020 and would like to have lights that turn on by touching the lights like these do.
You may be able to de-pin the connector and send the wires and loom over the bed corner where you thought it should go. Re-attach the wires and plug it in.
The bed lights look good! I wonder if the Trail Boss can be fitted with the factory 120v outlet in the bed 🤔.. Like, if it’s pre-wired for it behind the blank cover lol.
In order to get the plug down without cutting your grommet you will need to disconnect the plug and it will slide in. Your video was very informative but you can unplug the connector to slide down the correct area
You gotta get rid of that plastic bed liner, it will rust your bed in a few years,,, I payed 450 at dealer and got a lifetime warranty on my sprayed in liner,,it will look so much cleaner without everything sliding around too!
