On the last play, not only did USC play horrible defense all game, but the turf in the LA Coliseum was in pretty rough shape. Lots of loose dirt every time a player's cleats slipped. Shocking.
"Any forward fumble that goes out of bounds is returned to the spot of the fumble and it belongs to the fumbling team" - well, unless it goes out of bounds in the end zone. But just apply this rule the same way there and we'd have fixed the dumbest rule in all of football.
Why is fumblrooski not legal? I thought you could place the ball on the ground intentionally and have a teammate pick it up. On the fake qb sneak, it wouldnt work because that was fourth down and you cant advance a fumble then. But it should be legal otherwise.
Re play 6 (7:35): Why are the mechanics different with offensive pass interference and intentional grounding? Specifically, the official will throw the flag for PI first, then pick it up after consulting with other officials. For intentional grounding, the referee will discuss the play with other officials before dropping the flag. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mn7vYDEkh9U.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HWtopAl-zfA.html
R has to check with with the H/L to see if there's either an eligible receiver in the area or if the ball made it to the line of scrimmage. R can't see all of that b/c his focus is on the QB to make sure he doesn't get fouled. Hope that helps.
Re play 4 (4:42): Why does a ball fumbled forward out of bounds beyond the goal line (i.e., through the endzone) result in a touchback? Wouldn't it make more sense to apply the same rule in all parts of the field?
What about Blake Corum being jumped over by the defender and face masked and then somehow gets called for holding when there should have been either an illegal leverage or a facemask penalty on the defender.
Football was so much better when I was a kid 15-20 years ago. Nobody got ejected, you could hit however you wanted, you could block and tackle properly, it wasn’t over-officiated, and the officials actually knew what they were doing to some degree.
@@BertrandHolton That's also the reason injuries are occurring more often (penalties have helped reduce the number that would've happened) and people complain that games are over-officiated. We as humans have been getting bigger, faster, and stronger, but our bones and muscles haven't evolved to respond to the higher amount of stress that they are put through.
