Admit it! You felt the same way about the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander. Mitsubishi is like the new kid in school who you aren't sure if you should say hi to them. Well we are here to tell you, go say hi to that new kid because you may become best friends. The 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander is everything you have been needing in a SUV with the addition of a 3rd row offering room for 7. There is a lot to like about the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander, and this week Brad and Jared want to focus on a few things to see if it really is that great. They look at the QUALITY of the Mitsubishi Outlander, the COST OF OWNERSHIP, and then tap into its RELIABILITY. These are three great areas to focus on when you might be new to a brand, much like Brad and Jared were. If you never considered the Mitsubishi Outlander before, we encourage you to watch this review. But, after it's all said and done, does the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander get the "Hood Slap of Approval?" Check it out for yourself and see what you think.
**Thank you to Cambridge Mitsubishi for allowing us to review this 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander**

I drive almost all of the newer model SUV vehicles with my work. I do many hours of driving. The Mitsubishi is so far ahead of any other SUV. It’s so good I went and purchased one. So much to love about this SUV. Cost less to service than probably all of the other makes. 10 year full warranty. Fuel economy is incredible. And it’s made in Japan.

Sounds like a sweet job. It definitely would help with making a decision on what car to buy. We loved the Outlander too. Especially in this colour. What colour did you go with?
@robreibel3491

I would probably purchased white if I had more of a choice. I went for grey and looks so good. I purchased the 2nd model from the bottom. Because I use it as a work SUV and my cars have a hard life. Driving on dirt roads beaches and long road miles. It’s set up for television news . And carries about two hundred kgs of equipment in the back. Love this SUV

I have been a fan of Mitsubishi for awhile now and currently own a couple of them. They have been great vehicles for me and my family and have been absolutely reliable. They made some bad decisions in the 2000's and the whole economy taking a dump around 2008-2010 didn't help. The new outlander is proof Mitsubishi still has fight in them and proof that can build a quality vehicle. I am seeing a lot more new Outlanders on the road which is nice to see. Great video!

Wrong. 2024 Outlander owner here. One of the worst cars ever. Riddled with design flaws. Security system can easily lock you out. Putting the car in nuetral is cumbersome. The car doesn’t always start on the first push. 3rd row is a waste. 2nd row seat adjust is behind the 3rd row. Very odd. 4 cylinder engine is sluggish. Driver seat doesn’t push back far enough. Too many flaws. Go with a Toyota.

I just bought a ‘22 and love it, but I do agree the third row is nearly useless. There’s no spare tire because of a tiny third row that to use you need to move the second row up so far they have no space at all
@BrezzP
@BrezzP Месяц назад
I just learned that if you shift the first row and second row forward a little, you will have room for 2 adults in the third row. There's also a second adjustment in the third row that reclines the seats. For a more comfortable third row ride.

I had a 2008 Outlander with AWD - was probably the most amazing terrain system in a car I've ever experienced. I could drive in any weather condition and feel confident. I had my car for about 6 years - never had an issue (I traded it in for a more sporty car). Now that I'm older - this new model has truly piqued my interest. Thanks for a great review!!

*The PHEV version of this thing IS the best equipped vehicle to ever be sold in canada, (For its price and type, which last I checked was 42K, thats the important part)* It has rally road racing Super all wheel drive, which is lifted strait from their rally cars. This makes it effectively a high speed off road vehicle. It can go head to head with a jeep and win. You REALLY notice this on snow and mud. It can go like 60-100km depending on how you drive it on electricity. It can get between 4.5L/100km to 8L/100km when its out of power, depending on how you drive it. If you drive it really well, you can just drive continuously at 4.5L/100km. In the manual, it sais it can tow 10000 pounds, although it sais 2000 is a "safe" tow because of its braking. It can go from 0 -60 in something around 7.2 seconds (Dont quote me on that, but its a cannonball) It has 7 seats Its base model comes with TWO 1500Watt outlets. In all other hybrids, they make you cut off your leg and give it to them for that. Thats in the base model. Its base model comes with a 64amp chadmo that can be used to power your house. There are only 2 other cars that can do that. The Ford lightning, and the Nissan leaf. But the ford on requires special ford stuff. The chadmo for this will be here in the second quarter of this years term. Or you can just jimmy rig a ford one if you cant wait. The thing truly sticks to the ground. All four wheels are independently controlled. At high speeds, the engine stops generating electricity, and just connects to the ground directly through the front wheels. Then, any additional energy it makes goes to the back wheels as electrity and charges the battery. This is significantly more fuel efficient than running on electricity at high speeds. It allows the car to be efficient and powerful at every speed. It is an Atkinson's engine, which means in eco mode it just runs at its most efficient gas to energy speed until you reach 110kmph, at which point it connects to the road. Yes Toyota has more fuel efficient engines. But their price and 5 year waiting time makes that irrelevant. Its 20kwh battery qualifies for the full electric rebate It strait crushes all other Hybrids on the market with the exception of the KIA Niro (Which is a minimalist hybrid that values space, and so makes its own independent case), and the RAV4 Prime (But youll never get one, and its only around 15% better at its core jobs. Missing all the other features). It does not make sense to buy most electric cars against this price point and feature crowding. Its one of the biggest electric drivien vehicles on the market. Its not tiny. Yet it gets the energy ratings of a tiny car. Base model has car following Some things its bad at: If you want to drive in the winter time with just the battery, you cant turn on the fans. Turning on the fans turns on the engine, even though you dont need it. This means that you need to make a choice between not seeing out your windshield, or burning gasoline for no good reason. The overlooked that for sure. It will not connect the engine to the road until your battery is out of power, and so will needlessly waste energy until that point. Its definatly a bug. I think thats everything :P

There goes the whole Renault, Nissan, Mitsubishi thing again. As a Nissan owner, I can’t buy another car under the Renault umbrella. I’m ditching Nissan this year. Too many maintenance issues to count. I own both a 2013 Pathfinder and 2018 Note. Love their designs. But they are not reliable cars anymore. This Outlander looks so good though! Aaargh. I hope they can separate from Renault and be their own thing again.

I bought the 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander SE. The back seats are made for small people, not the regular larger people. So with that in mind, being retired and rarely have anyone else but my Yorkie with me, pulling kayaks & the occasional utility trailer, this car is perfect for me. I traded my 2017 Outlander SEL for it. Got $15,000 for it. Bringing the price of the 2023 down to $23,000. I have yet to see how it runs in the rain or at night, but I'm sure that'll come soon enough. It's a great car for My Own use and gets me from point A to point B and back nicely. And if the rear seats bothers anyone, for those who design the next car, how about making the car another foot longer, giving the third row a little more room. Thanks for reading.

I have purchased three Outlanders. The third row seating is great because the seats fold down. I can get everything I need in that extended trunk. I’ve even carried 7’ boards home from Home Depot! Why pay so much for a base model elsewhere when you can pay the same and get a fully loaded model. However, I have noticed a depreciation value which has been the biggest bummer. Also, I transport for child services and can get 6 car seats in mine. :)

What is the maximum miles a newly purchased Mitsubishi should have out of the dealership?
@HoodSlappersOfficial
@HoodSlappersOfficial 2 месяца назад
It really all depends. If it’s right off the truck from factory, generally between 15km and 20km. This takes into consideration the kms it had when it landed, putting gas in the car, and the tech doing the pre delivery inspection. If there are things like tint or other products that the car needs, there could be extra kms. If it’s dealer traded, then it will definitely have more. I hope this helps.

I went looking for a new car in summer 2023 with my heart set on a CRV or Sante Fe. I was disappointed in both because of small interior. By chance, a 2022 Outlander was in dealer lot and the moment I sat in it, I was hooked. I had my teenage son (6') with me to judge back seat room. The space in first and second rows is great. My 6'3 husband is comfortable driving it. It handles like a dream in snow. When in Eco drive mode, I often get 30 MPG. The exterior is beautiful..doesnt look like every other compact SUV and I often get complements. I love the headlight design-fierce looking. As an Uber driver, I am often complemented on the interior and room-except for 3rd row. It may as well not even be there. When 3rd row seats are up, there is absolutely no cargo space. Another downside is front cabin configuration. There are really no compartments for stuff, and ergonomically is a poor set up (I kind of have to reach backward into middle console and for drinks in cup holder). Also the Park and Reverse functions is a terrible design. In the US, most vehicles shift into park by pushing lever all the way to top position. In the 2022 that is Reverse. Park is a button. Very dangerous. When I first got the vehicle, out of habit I shifted all the way to top to park, and because it went into reverse, nearly knocked down my son with the door as he was getting out of car. A person could easily get backed over because of this! So that takes a little getting used to. Still, the pros outweigh the cons, and I likely will be looking at newer models when the time comes, hoping for upgrades/updates on storage and the whole shifter thing.

You get what you pay for… Got a 2023 SE adaptive cruise control & lane assist doesn’t work it pulls to the right does not stay in the lanes. Hard to steer & jerks. I had to turn everything off. The brakes feel weird, & definitely can tell it’s a CVT unlike in my Nissan it’s a cvt xtronic v6 but you can’t tell. This one almost feels like it slips. It house a loud noise while driving which I found an article that explains essentially they’re made cheap and not heavy. I was hoping to get a good mechanically sound vehicle but nope. The doors don’t unlock when it’s put in park either. The dash rattles, and the gas is actually not great I filled up it said 455 miles I drove 70 miles and it was down to 354 when math isn’t mathing… Just because they made it look nice and stylish means nothing mechanics mean much more. I’ve owned Toyota, nissan, & Honda that were excellent. I wish I would have just gotten a Pathfinder or Murano & paid the extra money. Needless to say I wish I could get something different and officially aggravated I’m stuck with it. Please do your research before purchasing. And they do not give a 10 year 200k warranty I had to pay 2700 for a warranty for 150k or 7 years

It’s hard to compare a Mitsubishi 4 cylinder with a Nissan V6. There is a big difference in how those cars will handle and feel. At the end of it though, we hope everything changes and that you will enjoy your vehicle. Here I’m Canada, we do receive a 10 year 200,000 warranty though. Maybe not everywhere. Thanks again! Well I bought a 2023 ES Outlander because I didn't need the 3rd row & in exchange for that, I get a full size full time spare wheel. I'm in Australia & we have a lot of remote country here, so this is a preferable feature here. Though it doesn't feel like it, it has oodles of power and gets up to speed surprisingly quickly. You won't have idiots trying to pass you when the speed limit changes, because they simply can't do that without looking like idiots. The car doesn't feel like it is going as fast as it actually is. This can be a trap at first, so watch your speed. Maybe it's because of sitting up so high or the suspension making the road very smooth, or perhaps because it is so stable & hangs onto the corners with such assurance & ease. Very noticeable more stable & relaxed cornering than any car I have previously owned. The one bad thing I have found so far is the tow bar is inches lower than it needs to be and its design limits departure angle to a ridiculous amount. It bottoms out on very ordinary suburban driveways. I have had a tow bar on every car I owned over the last 50 years. This is the worst one yet, worse than my Kia Cerato, worse than my saggy VR commodore etc. Total design fail on the tow bar, it could easily have mounted the tongue 2-3 inches higher as there is no structure in the way, only a bit of plastic bumper to cut out. I would have preferred if the roof wasn't as tall, as that would have made loading roof racks oh so much easier for smaller people like me. My wife & I had looked at earlier models thinking oh that's OK. So the height of the 2023 model was a surprise we had not realised.

Tow capacity 2000lb my VW EOS does more than that and that's just basically a VW Golf.

An EOS! We don’t see many of those around. Hang on to that classic. Thanks for watching.

The third row is great for emergency transport of children and their friends to parks and soccer games.

I suppose that’s true. But even for kids, it seems right. But it’s there if needed. Sweet profile pic by the way. Who’s the best Batman to hit the silver screen?

Excellent video! How would you compare it to the gas powered 2022/2023 Kia Sorento in terms of quality, build, reliability and bang for your buck as I am considering both.
@HoodSlappersOfficial
@HoodSlappersOfficial Год назад
Thanks for watching. Excellent question. We haven’t had the chance to review the Sorento yet so we can not give a proper assessment. After this review, we would definitely ask everyone to at least consider Mitsubishi when looking at compact SUVs. We did however review the Sportage and were impressed by it as well. So if the Sorento is anything like the Sportage, it’s a tough choice. Drive both and see what you like. You can’t go wrong with either.

4:05 Haha, very funny. Well, my grandson would fit there very easily. It's not for huge guys like you. Hahah .. By the way, I like that car. My only concern is that issue with the hood. Have they fixed that yet?

Thanks for watching and saying hello. We are just glad that scene only took one take and not two. :) What issue with the hood are you referring to?

Hi! First time buyer of a Mitsi (30 year driver of many makes and models) and I love my 2023 Outlander. The 3rd row is less than ideal but the price point, warranty and amenities far outweigh the tiny tiny 3rd row and torque. I know it’ll last a really long time

Stephanie, thank you so much for saying hi and for watching. You will love the Outlander. We did! How many vehicles have you owned in your 30 years of driving and which has been your favourite?

Mitsubishi have no plans to sell the 2023 Outlander in Europe *at the moment" which is a shame, we just have the new Eclipse which is a smaller/short wheel base version of the 2022 Outlander. Which is really strange because the Outlander is and has been the best selling PHEV in the UK since it's launch I believe was 2014.

Thanks for watching! Hopefully that changes soon because you are missing out. We really enjoyed the Outlander. We said it in the review, we were pleasantly surprised with everything. It's not a great seller here in Canada, but if they keep making vehicles like this, that can change quickly.

Great video guys! I'm really curious about that spray on the headlights thing. Does it have a wiper as well? How well does it spray at highway speeds vs city driving? If it doesn't have a wiper does it impair the light coming through the lamp because I know I can't see much in that time between when I spray my windshield and before the wiper clears it off. I am really intrigued by a made for Canada design. That insulated battery seems particularly interesting with all the arctic fronts we get here in Alberta (-50C windchills mid December). I also wonder if they did anything for the draft that can come off of the doors or were those pretty well insulated?

Bleatmop, great thoughts and questions. There is no wiper. To be honest, to quote one of our Instagram followers how has this feature, it’s just a faster way to burn through washer fluid. It’s a neat feature but not overly necessary. Canada was thought of when making this vehicle. And for the draft, there is a double door seal to help with that issues. Over all we were extremely impressed with the vehicle. Well, maybe not that third row. :)
