Hey everyone! I’m back with part 2 of 3 of my RC Killa Lift Kit Installation! Here goes the Rear Suspension Add a Leaf Pack Install!
I hope you enjoy, I’m slowly getting better at editing and will work to improve!
Below are the time stamps! 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇
0:00 intro
0:18 discussion of wheel fitment
1:12 tire removal
2:20 preparing to remove overload leaf spring
6:06 lowering rear axle
6:47 front tire fitment discussion
8:17 lowering rear axle
9:33 drilling u bolt brackets
11:52 painting brackets
12:46 installing add a leaf pack
13:40 fitting add a leaf pack
19:14 removing bolt so bracket fits
21:15 completed side without wheel on
21:54 final instructions
Also, below I’ve included some written instructions I made for myself for the install, I’ve edited it a little bit with things I learned after it was complete so I hope it’s helpful! 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇
Break the lugs loose while truck is on the ground.
Jack up the rear end and place jack stands under truck.
Chock the front tires.
Remove rear tires.
Place lever jack under rear axle.
Disconnect the U bolts. 18 mm
Disconnect rear shock 19mm at bottom, 17mm at the top.
Remove brake and abs lines from holding brackets to free up some slack.
Ensure slack in diff breather mod.
Remove sway bar to get enough length when lowering axle to be able to remove overload leaf and install add a leaf pack.
Replace overload leaf with 3 leaf add a leaf
pack. Sticker should be facing front of truck, also the shorter end faces forward. 14mm bolts.
Will need to impact wrench leaf pack bolt to get leafs together then cut off excess bolt length in order to fit upper u bolt bracket.
Don’t tighten the small front and back brackets too tight on leaf springs, they are just meant to align the leafs.
Will need to drill out factory plate holes from 1/2 “ to 9/16” holes to fit aftermarket U bolts.
Paint bracket so the drilled holes dont rust.
Will need to bend new u bolts inward to fit bracket.
Install brackets and u bolts.
U bolt torque spec 54 ft/lbs
Sway bar torque spec 62 ft/lbs
Lower shock bolt 155 ft/lbs
After everything is reconnected put wheels back on.
Snug all the lug nuts then torque in star shaped pattern to 75 /85 ft lbs, depends on wheels honestly that’s just what I did on mine.
Good luck!!! 🍀👍

I’m very glad I could be helpful! Thanks for watching 🙏 Something I didn’t include in the video and I should have, when you get to the part where you need to tighten the nut on the add a leaf pack, use a C clamp to hold the leaves together before you are tightening, that will help prevent stressing that bolt out! Good luck! 👍

Super curious to see the cutting vid, mine required allot of manipulation to the finder liner and bent some metal to get 1.5 wheel spacers to avoid rub on stock tires with a 2.5" lift.
@ApexFrontier
@ApexFrontier 10 месяцев назад
That’s interesting I wouldn’t have thought that it would rub that much with that set up. My wheels are a 0mm offset, only the difference of 33mm , which is 1.33 inches, almost the same as your spacers and the tires are quite a bit larger than stock. Hopefully I’ll get this video edited and uploaded to is Friday. Thanks for watching!

I just picked up a 2023 pro 4x a few weeks ago. I really appreciate the level of detail you go into on your videos! How did the ride quality change after your lift and new tires?
@ApexFrontier
@ApexFrontier 9 месяцев назад
Congratulations! I hope you are loving your new truck! And thanks bro! I’m definitely trying to cover the things that get missed a lot so that anyone can do these things if they want to! As far as ride quality, it rides slightly stiffer, but still relatively smooth. When I go over a dip in the road, the springs rebound outward quickly, the bilstein 4600s do not dampen that well as far as preventing the springs from extending. That’s a bit rough but not terrible. The tires are nice and quiet, and haven’t had any issues in any weather conditions and provide a considerable upgrade in traction over the stock tires. It also feels noticeably taller now which I love!
@ruffriding2k2
@ruffriding2k2 3 месяца назад
Nice truck and setup, I hear the RCKilla rides stiffer in a good way but is it bumpy on regular road imperfections? I love how smooth my Pro4x rides now but it def needs a lift.
@ApexFrontier
@ApexFrontier 3 месяца назад
Thanks 🙏 Yeah it’s stiffer for sure, not bad or anything but I will say in my honest opinion if you have the money, and of course depending on your goals, I’d go ahead and get a suspension system that’s pre assembled. I like the fox 2.0 extended travels (3” lift) and I’ve been checking out dobinsons IMS lift too. RC killa is good bang for your buck and better than spacers, but you don’t gain any travel since you re use your stock shocks and it’s also difficult to change the springs out if you don’t have the right tools. Quite dangerous in fact. So keep that in mind when considering the RC Killa lift. It has held up well in some difficult off-roading situations as well. Best of luck 🤞
@ruffriding2k2
@ruffriding2k2 3 месяца назад
@ApexFrontier I still have not gone offroad but do want a lift more for looks and rarely to do some minor offroad trails etc.. Thanks
@ApexFrontier
@ApexFrontier 3 месяца назад
@@ruffriding2k2 oh okay well it’s probably a good option for you then! Definitely cost effective! Just be careful with the springs in the front if you plan to do it yourself . The add a leaf isn’t hard , but use C clamps to hold the leafs together when you put the bolt on 🤘

Would’ve worked out better if they jus used the right sized u Bolts in the kit🤷🏻‍♂️
@ApexFrontier
@ApexFrontier 8 месяцев назад
Yeah for sure! That part was pretty difficult! Even after squeezing them together they slowly rebounded back to their original position so I had a very small window of time to get them in the holes 😂😂😂
@mafosa9563
@mafosa9563 7 месяцев назад
stock shocks are long enough?
@ApexFrontier
@ApexFrontier 7 месяцев назад
Yeah they are, although if you aren’t worried about spending more, I’d go ahead and get a suspension lift kit with aftermarket shocks, and with them pre assembled. I was trying to get 2 inch lift the cheapest way without going with spacers, if that’s your goal this works fine
@ramiromunoz7970
@ramiromunoz7970 8 месяцев назад
Do you have to cut the threads
@ApexFrontier
@ApexFrontier 8 месяцев назад
Yeah you do. If you don’t cut that bolt down it will be too tall and won’t allow you to install the bracket will fit in there. Check out 19:26
