I am SO glad they finally moved the gear selector out of the middle of the floor! Wow did that look awful in between the seats. This looks so much better. I really like this design.
We own a 567 with the Paccar power train system. We love the auto shift. We are old and have bad knees and hips. This auto shift makes driving more enjoyable especially around town.
@@geargrinder4784 You got a massive selection of old manual trucks to pick from. I would get a 600hp Signature ISX with a 18 speed and 3.55 gears. You can float past most of the gears and play around up mountains.
Yea, the best powertrain for old people would be Paccar's powertrain. Without a doubt. Because it'll be getting towed into a dealer lot for a week at a time, every month or two. It'll afford you plenty of downtime to rest up. Ask me how I know
@@markm0000 ...consider yourself very lucky. If, I caught you floating gears in a truck I owned, it's an automatic firing! Floating gears is for those that are too damned lazy to do it the correct way. They give you a clutch, if, you cannot use it, get your azz out and find another job! Not paying for transmission repairs for someone to damned lazy to do it the correct way! ScottishxPride, Tx.
@@2mkholley not true I've driving both and in traffic weekly the auto is way harder on the driveline than the manual i can just let it pull it self and keep distance in backed up traffic
@@sydhurdle1154you can still listen for your gears, the auto shifts very predictably in traffic. You learn how your gass pedal and rpms trigger different shifts
I love the automated and I don’t care what people say. As long I can make money 💰 in the truck who cares. I can drive a manual but this a new time and the ones that crying it a automated stop being stuck in the 60’s and 80’s
It's Not An "Automated Manual"...LOL...There Is NOTHING Manual About It...Not In Any Way...It's An Automatic Transmission...And Automatic Transmissions Nowadays Are Superior In Every Aspect To Manuals.
The cowboys who bash auto r just mad auto drivers r not as tired or beat up after a week of driving through the worst traffic ever in history of highways; most ppl who have cdls have done there share of shifting; absolutely nothing wrong with auto, especially in a working show truck; it actually shifts more efficiently then most ppl; no grinding. I love my auto n will b ordering a 2023 ultrashift for comfort, reliability, n medical reasons
Beautiful truck. I got one of the last 389’s with the full gage dash. I love it. Didn’t even order the smart nave in this one just because I wanted a full gage package. Sad the 389’s are going away 😢
@@markm0000 well Peterbilt launched the 379X right before they discontinued the 379. They just launched the 389X and I’m told they have a replacement in the works for 2024. I was told it’s a 589. Has a hood similar to the 389 with the cab of a 567. They are trying to make sure it goes over better than the 990 kw did but I’m sure people will not be happy with it
Which automated transmission models are available for Cummins engine? And what is difference in price between offered transmissions ? Could that 18 speed auto go with Cummins efficiency? And which Cummins efficiency you recommend 450hp or 500hp ?
I now drive a auto shift truck and I can drive a manual also I have nothing to prove to anybody. If you drive on road 100% auto is the way to go I even use the auto to get up a snowy mountain road this past winter use the hold a gear feature and pulled right up the mountain
How much does it cost to build this truck. only 23 and i drive automatic but I love the 389 Pete and I want to buy one automatic I’m saving my checks for it !!
Damn! I wish my company had autos. I only fuel Costco’s in and around the Sacramento area. Stop and go traffic, local as can possibly be. Roseville, Elk Grove, Sacramento, Woodland, Rancho Cordova, and Folsom. 5 loads a day, 11-14/hrs a day. GREAT company! I love this job, but some trucks shift like CRAP!Makes the day harder. I like manual, but I’m TOO local for a 10 speed. I think anyways.
Hey Keith from Angola 🇦🇴 good morning to you, as an Indian 🇮🇳. I am fan of Kenworth and Peterbilt also Volvo VNL of North America 🇺🇸 and this truck is a badass of white colour.
Hey Keith, nice pete, I got a 389 my self, question, do you know if I can put an ultra shift or that have to come from the factory, as always, enjoy a lot your videos ., thank you
Beautiful truck but Im kind of old school. They are in my opinion ruining trucking with DEF/DPF engines and auto shift. I drive a Freightliner with a DD15 and 12SPD auto and im not complaining as i had a major shoulder injury on the shifter arm but if my arm wasnt all screwed and nailed back together id prefer a manual. I started learning on my buddys 86 W900 425 CAT and 15 double overdrive when trucks were trucks. Still love my trucking no matter what i drive.
Could I theoretically put an automated trans in an older pre emissions truck? I just started at one of the big companies and l like driving the autos. But like the older trucks and lack of piss juice
I would love to have something like this but I would need head rack I would rather a back window in it otherwise I would love to have one Exactly like this
Just found this video. When did Pete start manufacturing the 389 with an 18-speed automatic… what year? Also, when did they start manufacturing them with the control on the column… what year? This would be a dream to drive. Volvo and Freightliner have had automatics for decades but they’re 12-speeds. A 12-speed automatic is a joke! Again, this would be a dream to drive. Are the new 589s available with this 18-speed on the column?
Let them know that they can shift in Manual by holding the button on the side. It’s good for mountains grades or if you don’t want the truck to keep going up and down in the gears during slow traffic.
Isolates the batteries from every connection in the truck. Very useful if the truck will be sitting for more than a week. That way you do not come back to dead batteries.
I been driving manuals for the last 6 years and drove an auto yesterday. That’s the way to go unless you’re doing a bunch of off road driving, but other than that it’s good stuff
